Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user T3XT.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username T3XT?

T3XT:

"Newgrounds goes way back. I found it browsing the web for games in.... 2008?.... although I can't really say I frequented it back then. A couple years later, though, I discovered the Doom Triple Pack flash game on here. That really got me into this site; I made Newgrounds a part of my regular internet tours from then on. I lurked on here playing games until January 2012, when I actually decided to make an account. I'm one of those weird people that goes straight to the forums when they sign up for a site, so I did just that. It took me a while but I found a niche within the community and decided I was here to stay."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

T3XT:

"Definitely. The past year or so has been particularly crazy for me in general, both in real life and on the forums. As far as the forums, I can gladly say that my posts have gradually improved over time, as is often the case with new users. I've made a few friends here as well (You're awesome, Otto!) and become a part of the community. I also make regular trips to the Art portal to admire the work; some of the artists there never cease to impress. Speaking of artists, I'm also an artist myself, although I haven't drawn anything I consider upload-worthy yet, lol. In real life, I've been battling through a lot of things, mostly personal issues that I won't say here. Suffice to say, the things I've encountered in real life really changed me as a person, and that is reflected in my forum posts. I'm not as upward-looking as I used to be, heh. On the brighter side of things, I've also explored different kinds of financial investments via buying and selling precious metals, namely silver and palladium. More on that to come."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

T3XT:

"There are certain popular animators that I like on here, particularly psychicpebble, Oney, Stamper, Egoraptor, and SpeedoSausage. And while I'm at it, I truly miss Edd Gould.

As far as people I've actually talked to, the aforementioned Otto is an awesome user, one of my favorites on the forums. Some of my favorite posters are Cootie, yurgenburgen, Sense-Offender, Painbringer, Dr-Worm, and Luis, to name a few. I always keep an eye out for their posts when I'm on here."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

T3XT:

"Hmm...There are some posters I'm not very fond of, but I don't want to list them out here. That just feels like some kind of declaration of war, and I don't really want to invite that. I like to be on okay terms with everybody, even people I don't like, so I don't end up butting heads with someone when I use the forums."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

T3XT:

"I could be cynical about the forums and judge them by a minority of bad users, but truth be told, I think the community here is generally pretty good. I definitely spend most of my time on General, though occasionally I pop into Video Games too. (I really wish that place was more active.) The users I mentioned earlier I think would all make for good interviews."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

T3XT:

"They're a mixed bag. I think most of the regulars are pretty good, namely EJR, Zachary, and Murray (formerly Bahamut). On the worst side of the spectrum, there's that one that everybody hates. You know who it is."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

T3XT:

"Hmm, I never really thought about that. Yes, I think being a mod would be pretty awesome. Probably a forum mod since the majority of my time goes there."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

T3XT:

"I like the inclusion of the chat, that's a plus. On the downside, I really, reallly, really miss the old level icons. I'd give anything to have those back. I also miss having a larger sig space. Most of the other changes I'm indifferent to."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

T3XT:

"I have major seasonal depression. I suppose that's something I haven't confessed before. It gets particularly bad around this time of year; wish me luck."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future, T3XT?

T3XT:

"Remember earlier when I said none of my pictures were upload-worthy? Well, I lied. There's a couple pictures of mine that are coming along quite nicely, the best of which I'll release on Pico Day. Also, I recently got Flash!"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user triplenoob.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username triplenoob?

triplenoob:

"I first learned the existence of the website when some distant relative of mine was on it when visiting. It must have been in 2003, back when I was 10. I thought the website looked cool enough so I starting visiting more and more often until at one point I came here practically everyday. It blew my mind when I found out, 4 years later, that I could sign up, and so I did. I chose this username because it was what served as such at the time. I saw someone on Runescape, back when I played that, whose username was something like "Tr1Pl3_N00b". So, yeah."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

triplenoob:

"Most definitely. 6 years is a pretty long time. I remember at first I couldn't speak English very well, if at all. I'm a french Canadian, you see, so English is a second language. I used to leave poorly written reviews on shitty flashes and kept embarrassing myself for a couple years. Especially when I stumbled upon the BBS. My 14 year old mind was an immature one..."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

triplenoob:

"I have been pretty inactive for about 3 years. I have only been back for a month or so. It's hard to say who I like the most, since the crowd sort of changed and most people I used to know very well don't use the site as often, if at all. And it would only seem fair to say who I like in the current crowd. Having said that, I would like to say 372, since I like most of his posts and he seems a pretty decent sort. He makes great art, too and everyone should check him out if they didn't already. Another user would be BasedBubbus, formerly known as a bunch of other names that I can't even pretend to keep up with. I like him for his weirdness and just being a bizarre person, and mostly being completely unapologetic for it. I couldn't say how they affect me, other than make me laugh and intrigue me as forum users."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

triplenoob:

"I get along pretty well with the other users. I haven't had any problems with any of them before, and I don't intend to. I have found this site to be a friendly place for people to talk about and no one is really left as an outcast, unless they happen to be complete dickheads... But for 99% of the time, I would like to believe this doesn't happen."

And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

triplenoob:

"I like the forums very much. I have been an on and off user for years, though. I normally stay for a couple months, before moving on and coming back in a year or something. I normally frequent the General Forum, but like to sometimes get on the less frequented parts like Clubs and Crews and the Help & How to forum. I like the General forum most, because this is where everyone can let loose and talk about anything they want (within a certain boundary, of course). Some of the funniest people I've ever encountered online are right here on this section of the website. I guess I would consider 372 for an interview. He's an awesome artist."

Do you think that they do a great job or not?

triplenoob:

"For the most part they do a good job, rounding up abusive users and deleting useless threads. But sometimes, just every once in a while, I can get banned for the stupidest reasons. I don't argue with the mods, but there are some pretty debatable decisions that left me confused. Some threads are locked for no reason, without a word from the mod who locked it and why he did it, sometimes I get banned for posting on a "spam" thread... and it was considered spam because it talked about how mods sometimes abuse of their power... I guess that's what happens when you give power to someone and no one can say anything about it."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

triplenoob:

"If someone gave me the opportunity, sure, I'd like to try it out. Any kind would be okay. Only I'm not sure how good of a moderator I would be. I found that it is impossible to please everyone and there's always someone to bitch about any of the mods' decisions, even the logical ones. I wouldn't want to feel that I have power over the other users, as would probably happen. And I wouldn't want other users to watch what they say around and about me. I want everyone to have their own opinions about me and say it freely."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

triplenoob:

"Back in 2003, when I began using this site on a daily basis, I thought this was the most awesome thing ever. The site was full of great stuff and great people. The 2007 redesign was pretty much the best web design I've seen and it still is. It was organic and natural, and pretty much everything was better, including the level icons. I sometimes miss the 2007 design, but I can't say the current design is worse, it's just less... good."

What do you like and what is not so good?

triplenoob:

"I like the way the website looks, the buttons and all. But it can't hold against the ultimately superior 2007 design. One thing I like about it is the social features, where I can see if people replied to my blog or my posts, which is the handiest thing to come out of the new redesign. My biggest grind against it are the lame level icons, which doesn't seem like a lot, but it's pretty much why we're always voting on submissions; to gain an increasingly badass level icon. The experience is then shallowed by the fact that they don't look as cool as they used to..."

Pico Day 2013 is happening soon. Are you looking forward to it? Apart from Pico Day, which Newgrounds Holiday is your favourite?

triplenoob:

"I'm always looking forward to Pico Day. It's fun to see so much great content being uploaded. It's arguably the time of the year with the most traffic on the site, which is always a blast. I also like Madness Day and Clock Day."

You seem to be a fan of the professional freeskier Simon Dumont. What do you like the most about this sport?

triplenoob:

"I'm no longer a huge fan of him... I used to be, though, as you pointed out. I've been skiing since the age of 3 and used to do a lot of freeski. Most of my friends were skiers too, which was awesome for a lot of years. When I first learned about Simon Dumont, he was my idol. I looked up to that guy and wanted to become a pro too. I used to buy all his ski movies and a lot of his "designer gear". Then, all my friends suddenly stopped skiing. I've been skiing less and less over the years and I stopped caring about pros."

I saw that you uploaded some promising art on your profile. Do you plan to make more art in the future?

"Of course. I planned to do a lot more over the summer, probably. I would do it now, but I'm pretty busy with college. Also, I've only uploaded a few pieces, because I always throw away my work after finishing it... I never thought of uploading it before seeing 372's work. I thought I might give it a try."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

triplenoob:

"Since I was a kid, I have been intrigued with death. The idea of it is mysterious to me... I've always been wondering about the meaning of our lives and the meaning of its end. I have experienced it a couple times, with a lot of my relatives dying throughout my life. For example, my brother died a couple of years ago after being run over by a drunk driver. A friend of mine was also drunk and decided to drive. He then crashed in another car, causing the death of another one of my friends and 1 bystander. Both of my grandfathers and my uncle died of cancer, and 1 of my grandmothers is completely senile and aggressive and is expected to die soon. I also knew a kid who used to play soccer with me a couple years ago, until he hung himself with his dog's leash completely out of the blue. Then, a person I used to know for years, who held me when I was like 3 and has been in my life since then, whom I considered like an uncle died of a stroke recently. A distant friend of mine also died when he tried autoerotic asphyxiation for the first and ironically last time.

I also used to kill small animals regularly when I was a kid. I would shoot small birds with a BB gun and then curb stomp them... I would then kill animals in increasing size until my parents caught me finishing off a squirrel. I'm not pretending to be an expert on the subject, in fact I'm anything but. I have had a bunch of psychological help and had to be suspended from school for weeks at a time for being considered a danger for the other students. This made me an outcast pretty much everywhere I went. One could assume I use NG as a way to get away from my social issues. And don't worry, my childish death experimentations have been over for quite some time."

triplenoob:

"It would be safe to expect more art from me. I expect to be drawing more in the future and want to share my work with the great people of NG. I will also try to post on the BBS as often as possible."

Interview with triplenoob

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user SmartyPants.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username SmartyPants?

SmartyPants:

"I first stumbled upon Newgrounds back in 2008 while browsing the web. Unfortunately, I can't remember what I was searching for, but I do remember a link bringing me to a thread in the Video Games forum. After reading some of the funny posts in that thread and checking out the rest of the forums, I decided to create an account so I could get in on some of the action.

Big surprise, my name wasn't originally SmartyPants. It was imasmartass. I stuck with the name and hated it dearly. Four months ago I finally had the courage to ask Wade to change my name. I chose SmartyPants because I thought it sounded better and it made me stick out in a way. I have no plans on changing it anytime soon."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

SmartyPants:

"Yes I have honestly. I truly believe that I really changed as a user around here. Most, if not all of my posts back then were ridiculous, dumb, or both! But to be fair, I was young and stupid. As time went on, I lost interest in the site and moved on with my life. But in November of last year, I was back. By then, I had matured and was no longer that idiotic kid I was before. I have started making better posts and threads since then."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

SmartyPants:

"Oh, there are quite a bunch, but I will pick out the ones I truly like the most. They are: Sectus, RightWingGamer, HomicidialFrog, YenMuffin, TailsPrower, and Ragnarokia. These guys have been great friends towards me since I returned in November. As to how they affect me. Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

SmartyPants:

"Nope. I have never once considered anyone as an enemy nor will I ever. I like everyone around here, honestly. Every person has their own unique charm to them that makes them likable to me. I dare say that it is near impossible for someone to get me to hate or dislike them."

SmartyPants:

"I find that the forums are a great way to kill some time. For the forum I prefer, it would have to be the General forum. The reason for that is because it is the most random and funniest place ever in my opinion. Never in my life have I seen so much buffoonery than I have there. And I love it. I don't know if you interviewed this person, but I say it should be kisame."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

SmartyPants:

"They do an awesome job. I never had issues with any of them. Granted, I don't know many of the mods. So, keep up the good work guys."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

SmartyPants:

"I have given this some thought for a while now. I mean, it would be cool to be a mod, but I'm sure there are many responsibilities and rules you have to follow when you are one. Though, it would be interesting to see first hand what duties a mod has around here. So, I guess the answer to this question is yes, I would like to become a moderator. If I were to become a moderator, I would want it to be a forum mod. I only really hang out in the forums anyways, so it would be the perfect position for me."

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

SmartyPants:

"I really like the redesign. Having user icons is a feature that I have come to like. The NG social is a good way of checking if others replied to my posts or blogs. And the layout in general is very radical to me. As for anything I dislike, I can't really think of anything off the top of my head. So, cool redesign."

You seem to be a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Can you tell our readers how you became a fan and what you like about the show? Has being a brony affected your life?

SmartyPants:

"Oh I have been waiting to get to this question. Anyways, I became a fan last year near the end of June. I had been seeing these ponies everywhere and was getting fed up with it, so I decided to watch the show and see what all the fuss was about. After watching the pilot, I became hooked and started watching more of it. There were so many things that I liked about the show. The characters, the art, the animation, the music, etc. It made me wonder why I didn't see this sooner. As for how being a brony affected my life, it helped me make some friends for one thing. It also made me feel like a jerk for judging the show so harshly before watching it. Finally, Being a brony has convinced me to buy some of the merchandise associated with the show."

You play Pokemon games. Which one is your favourite? And are you looking forward to Pokemon X and Pokemon Y ?

SmartyPants:

"Pokemon Black 2 is my favorite as of now. I felt that it took everything that made Black great and made it better. I'm still debating whether I will be picking up X or Y. I mean, the whole 3D world sounds cool, but the starters didn't really excite me that much when compared to other starters from past generations. But I'll wait until there is more info about the game before I decide whether to buy it or not."

SmartyPants:

"I'm really Antisocial. Like, no joke. I become nervous when around large groups of people and prefer to only have one on one conversations. Been that way my whole life, so I don't expect to change anytime soon."

SmartyPants:

"You can expect some more user icons on my userpage when I'm not being a lazy bum like I am most of the time. Other than that, you can expect more posts from me on the forums in the future and that is about it."

Interview with SmartyPants

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Viper.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Viper50?

Viper:

"I found Newgrounds in 2006. It was during school and I saw some people in my class on the site. I remembered the URL and went on when I was able to. I continued to frequent the site til a bit before the 07 redesign when I stopped coming on here for some reason....and in early 2010 I saw my brother on the site again and started coming on here more frequently than before. And in June of that year I decided to make my account. The reason my username is Viper50 is because right before I made my account I bought a new guitar. Which is an ESP LTD Viper-50. So I wanted to see if Viper was available and it wasn't. So I just added the "50" on the end and stayed with that. I was going to try seeing if I could get Viper as a username since the profile hasn't been used since it was made in like....2001 or something but decided I'm okay with it the way it is."

Changed his username to Viper

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Viper:

"Yeah I suppose I have. When I made my account I was an immature 17 year old. Now I'm an immature 20 year old. Hahaha."

Viper:

"Yeah. One of the first people I met on here (who I don't know if I should mention by her username because I'm not 100% sure she'd be "okay" with that). I still talk to her after almost 3 years which absolutely amazes me o.O Other than that I'd say VicariousE, Destrayop, Provoke (now Vnzi), and so on and so forth. As to how they affected me, can't really say. It's nice to have people I can chat with on a regular basis on here."

Viper:

"Honestly no. There aren't any users on here I do not like or consider an "enemy". I mean there are some that I probably wouldn't want to talk to extensively but other than that I'm okay with everyone no matter how much of an annoyance they can be to other users."

Viper:

"I quite like the forums. I pretty much stay on there all day too xD. As for preference I tend to be on General more often than any of the other forums though I also like the C&C Forum. I suppose you could interview VicariousE. He's been a user on here for 12 years."

Viper:

"I think they do a great job. Granted I suppose there are a few that don't do much, but other than that I have no problems with any of them."

Viper:

"Either I don't really care either way. If it happens it happens. But if not it doesn't bug me. Though I suppose if I were to be a mod I'd want to be Forum Mod."

Viper:

"I actually like the redesign. Though I can't say I don't miss the previous design since that one was the one I've known the longest (sorry I couldn't really....word that correctly). I like the Newgrounds Social as well as the layout of the user pages. I don't like that the Whistles aren't working the way they used to. I can't think of anything else I don't like at the moment. But I'm pretty sure there is something else...."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Judging from your newsposts, you have pets. How many pets do you have and how important are they to you? Also: do you have a snake, if not would consider getting one in the future?

Viper:

"I have three cats and two dogs. Well...technically they're my sister's but she likes to say they're mine too. The cats are: a 13 (going on 14) year old black Norwegian Forest Cat, a 10 year old Persian and Maine Coon mix, and some...tabby cat who we was a stray when we got her. The dogs are a stray we picked up and a 2 year old Chihuahua. They all mean a bunch to me. Like if either of the older cats died I'd be unimaginably sad because we've had them since I was a kid and I have yet to find another cat who'd be able to replace them. I do not have a snake. Though I guess I'd be okay with getting one at some point in the future."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You make music. Tell our readers how you started making music and what kind of audio submissions they can expect to see in the future from you.

Viper:

"I started making music when I got my first guitar when I was I wanna say....14 or 15. I suppose they can expect to see more Metalish audio submissions. But I've slowed down A LOT when it comes to recording stuff. Dunno why, I guess I can't find anything to "inspire" me. Though I still have over 200 audio things on my computer....but none of those are anywhere near okay enough to submit on here. I have a few things I have which I could be submitting right now but I'll probably hold off on that for a bit."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I saw that you have a collection of guitars. Do you have one that you like the most? Is there a guitar that you want to have?

Viper:

"Lately I suppose I like my red guitar (the Viper-50) the most. I've always wanted either a Fender Jaguar or Mustang. Though I have a list of 100 guitars I'd love to have xD"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You also collect... monster cans. Is there other interesting stuff that you collect?

Viper:

"No not really. I stopped "collecting" monster cans because my ex decided to bitch about me drinking it -_-"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Viper:

"Can't think of any secrets of mine. I suppose there is the fact I am bi-polar...but thats not really a secret if you talk to me enough."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future, Viper?

Viper:

"More shitty audio, more bad posting when it comes to the BBS, and I suppose the fact that I intend to be on here for years to come. So...yeah. (dunno if that last thing counts though ( ._.) "

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Interview with Viper50

Posted by Asandir - April 8th, 2013

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the the portal and forum moderator EJR.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username EJR?

EJR:

"In March of 2008, some kid who went by the username of Volkain5 was interested in my sprite animations when I was 13 and encouraged me to sign up here. Since then he has left but I stuck around because I liked the community. I chose the name EJR because those are my initials and I'm bad at coming up with a new alias. I've wanted a new username for a while but I still can't think of anything so I'm sticking with it. At one point I was EJRProductions but Wade ended up changing it to EJR and gave me that neat thing where if you type in ejrproductions.newgrounds.com it'll redirect to my page."

EJR:

"Yeah NG has changed me in a ton of ways which is why I choose not to leave. I've gotten so much advice from the friends I've made on here it'd be hard to ditch them all. I used to be a really immature kid on NG while I kept to myself IRL, but now I've managed to balance both out and keep my head leveled. It's all PRETTY SWELL."

EJR:

"Off the top of my head - Zachary, Gobblemeister, ZJ, Gagsy, Luis, 4cat, Murray, TehSlapHappy, Jay, Cosmicdeath, Travis, Timmy, Ryan, Knights, ReNaeNae, TurkeyOnAStick, Daethdrain. I like a lot more people but I guess I like these guys more than anyone else. They're all just generally cool to talk to and helpful."

EJR:

"I don't really want to name any out of just not being an asshole, but there's actually a surprising amount of users that I can't really stand on the BBS. I wouldn't consider any of them enemies though."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You are a portal moderator. Tell our readers how you became one.

EJR:

"Well in 2010 I asked Tom to give me icon mod access and being like 15 at the time I had all the time in the world to do hundreds upon thousands of icons. A little while later Tom introduced a thread for genre mods and I was interested in becoming one of those so I sent him a PM and got modded there as well (PMing Tom probably will not get you anywhere today folks). I had been fairly active on the website since receiving access to those mod types and when the time came where they had completed the portal mod tools I was given a gold aura and fancy perks. Moral of the story - users who are polite, intelligent and helpful will receive personal invites when the time arises that we need more mods."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

As portal mod, would you like to see the flagging option back as support or are groups like The Elite Guard Barracks sufficient enough to report abusive flashes?

EJR:

"Personally I would like to see the flagging option back ASAP, but I know that the staff have other concerns so I've been pretty content with The Elite Guard Barracks. They've been pretty helpful and the thread has helped them guide each other as far as what is abusive or not, and being able to give them feedback is something I appreciate."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You recently became a forum moderator. Did your view on the forums change since becoming one? What was the most difficult situation you had to deal with on the forums?

EJR:

"Yeah, once you're on the other side you start to realize things you didn't necessarily know as a regular user. Yesterday I was asked why forum mods seem to post less after being modded and it's because it's hard to want to post and clean garbage posts up at the same time. It's amazing to see how many people complain about site moderation whether we're being strict or lenient. Can't please everyone I guess. There aren't a lot of weird things that go on that make forum modding difficult. If anything there are just a lot of annoying things like ban evaders and advertisement accounts that pop up frequently."

Your flash Mario v. Luigi 2 won an award and was folled by a sequel , since then you moved away from sprite animations. Will you ever make another sprite animation?

EJR:

"Last year I was going to attempt another sprite animation as a joke but I got too lazy and didn't go through with it. Sprite sheets are pretty hard to come by these days and unless you're really dedicated I wouldn't recommend spending hours finding the right ones. Maybe one day I'll revisit that idea and actually finish something for once. Maybe not. I think sprite animations are dying anyway so I don't see a point in really trying it."

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

EJR:

"I like a lot of things about the redesign. I really like the way the site works now and the way it looks. It's one of my favorite websites to go on because everything was made with love and it shows. What I don't like is that features that should have been out long before it happened are still just barely coming out. Stuff like unpublishing and a revamped audio portal were great surprises but that should have all been out with the redesign."

EJR:

"I've been working on animation ideas and more recently. I had considered hopping on that collabinator and finding a programmer so I can start a game. Who knows if they'll ever be done though. I'm not very good at finishing what I start."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user BigBadtheBazz.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username BigBadtheBazz?

BigBadtheBazz:

"I found out about Newgrounds when a friend showed me the site a long time ago. I had an older account that I didn't do jack shit on except be annoying, so I made this shiny brand new account solely for the purpose of submitting art. Then I went to the forums and became a regular there as well. As for my username, Bazz is a weird name I came up with while writing a story I never finished. When I made my account, I added the BigBadthe because it sounded cool and weird at the time. I feel like my username suits me."

BigBadtheBazz:

"I've changed a little bit as a user, a little bit as a person. I've met some interesting people while here, some of them opening my mind a bit to new things. As a person, I've changed a little bit as well, but I can't really describe why or how."

BigBadtheBazz:

"There are plenty of users I like. to name a few, there is Klobb17, my first friend I made on this site, Killerskull is a cool guy, Provoke, Xenomit, Phobotech is a badass, there are too many to list them all, but those are some of them."

BigBadtheBazz:

"Maybe, maybe not. I could give the generic answer of saying I like everyone, but I would be a lying. But really, I like most of the people here, even some of the more trollish ones. And even if someone says something to try and get to me, It usually doesn't work. If anything I'll respond back with something nice. That's just me."

BigBadtheBazz:

"I like the forums. General is seen as a rough place, but really I see it as a dog with a bark and no bite. I've never had anything on there rustle my jimmies (wow, first time I've said that ever.) I also enjoy the video games forum, because I'm all about games and whatnot, and every now and then I poke my head into the art forum. All the other forums just seem kinda dead or boring in my opinion."

BigBadtheBazz:

"It depends on the moderator, some are more prevalent with bans and thread locking I suppose. They're chill most of the time it seems, and I'm sure if you make them laugh they go easier."

BigBadtheBazz:

"I wanted to be one at first, then realized that it would be a pain in the ass and I'd probably suck at it. But then again maybe I'd actually be good at it, I dunno. Simply put, I'm fine being a regular user. There."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You are a scouted artist. How did you start drawing? What kind of art can we expect to see in the future from you?

BigBadtheBazz:

"Heh, I just got scouted. I've been drawing ever since I could walk. I've gradually gotten better with time and now I'm at my current skill level. I love drawing and hope to be a cartoonist (that's why a lot of my art is cartoon-like or anime-esque) and I hope to publish some comics later on."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

BigBadtheBazz:

"I'm not going to really say much, but I guess you could say I'm not as stable as I seem. It's all in the technique folks, I'm a spaz."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future, BigBadtheBazz?

BigBadtheBazz:

"Art wise, better stuff then what's on my page at the moment. I hope to also make some games, for this site and for download elsewhere. And maybe if I can get my hands on flash and a drawing tablet, I'll make some movies. I also dabble with music quite a bit, so if I make something not shitty, I'll probably submit it. Other than that, and I'm sure people will laugh considering that I'm a NG user, but I hope to be successful some day."

Interview with BigBadtheBazz

Posted by Asandir - March 25th, 2013

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Otto.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Otto?

Otto:

"This place was actually one of the first websites I ever visited. Someone I met, only a few times, found it with me by typing in 'teletubbies die' to Ask Jeeves I imagine. We were about 10 years old, so this must be back in 2005. We were infinitely amused by Tubby Funland and I made an account called 3v1lH0bo or something, which I imagine I will never find because of the stupid name. I think about 2 years passed before I discovered it again, looking for Runescape parodies (that's right I did all the cool online stuff). I wanted to make flash cartoons about stick-men fighting because of people like Terkoiz so signed up with the alias StickyWicky. I had this changed to Otto in 2009 or thereabout because it took me a long time to realise what a terrible username it was - I don't think there's anybody left at all who remembers that used to be my username, and that was definitely for the best, because..."

Otto:

"I used to be a huge idiot. I certainly changed in a number of ways and frankly I'd be horrified if I didn't. Now I think there were two sides to my change, these polar opposites, some parts which gradually flipped around. For instance when I first came to the forum side of things I was desperate to make an impact; I totally flooded the place, trying to get a post on every thread on the page. I quickly racked up thousands of posts. I treated the place like a diary - it was dangerous, and I paid the price (hence the great post-purge of 2012). These days I do try to make reasoned posts, but they are usually fuelled with an anger at the sheer stupidity someone can post. I won't name names because these people love to show their heads themselves. In real life I fluxuate from day to day, so strangely Newgrounds is my only gradual, or constant, if you wish."

Otto:

"I like all the reasonable users, ones like Gagsy, or that guy with the shark icon. These are people who have actual life experiences, and you can really tell by the posts. These are people who okay to have their opinion changed by new information, and that's what I really respect. I mention Gagsy specifically because I used to be, frankly, a real cock-omelette to her. In real life when I was like that to people, it was in a school, and I got school-level responses, but I remember she told me pretty straight and it dawned on me what a cock-ring I was. School did mature me aswell, but it was good to have these parallels I think."

Otto:

"Some users I can tell are just sheltered and have these weird opinions given to them by their parents - you can just see it. Usually this is on issues like gun control, religion, abortion, whatever. Usually the stuff that's topical for politicians to spin around. The ones I dislike are the ones who are so jaded they won't even properly discuss what they're so angry about. Instead of debating the subject at hand, they throw a fit and pick up on very silly, long winded things. They repeat themselves, they contradict themselves. It's frustrating. What's annoying furthermore is a lot of these users are rather liked, but I forget this is the home of white, privileged 13 year old boys (to generalise horribly)."

Otto:

"Ooooh I just don't know any more. I think I come here mainly by habit, it really has been years and years. I think 6 years of constant use now, 15k posts. I don't want to do the maths there and find out what that averages out as. I know at one point I had like 15 posts per day, and this was all in general, to answer the question. I bimble in the animation and art forums, but they're a bit depressing sometimes, especially since flash and animation got put in separate forums, thus thinning the users out to almost wasteland. The art forum is interesting though - they're very hostile to new artists sometimes, and even though I totally understand why, it bothers me. Saying that, pick any regular from there and give them an interview, because they're all very talented."

Otto:

"I do think all the interesting mods have gone. Mods used to have a great sense of humour, if I remember. You enjoyed their fun with them - times where they'd have discussions in long threads, mocking the idiot who made such a useless post that got it locked. These days I don't know if they're doing a good job or not. They get the job done; people don't really spam and there's nothing wholly offensive, but it's definitely not the same. Part of it could be I barely know who's a mod any more, the old golden auras were such a great give away! One example of funny modship still happening these days is here though. This was classic."

Otto:

"Well I stand by that quote: "I used to want to be a mod really badly, but now I can't think of anything worse." Much as I am habitually addicted to Newgrounds, I would not enjoy having any proper responsibilities that seemed like a chore. It would put me right off the place - I hope to add content, not filter and strip the content of others. I suppose."

Otto:

"What I like is that when I look at the old redesign, I recoil with both disgust and nostalgia. I think that means it's done a good job. To be honest I couldn't judge the general getting around interface because I have a shortcut straight to the BBS and I only travel out from there - that network being basically unchanged. I do miss the old O: emoticon though. I really, really do. Nothing has successfully replaced it, and I fear it never will."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

With the declining popularity of flash, Newgrounds also arguably dwindled in the last years. What do you think could be done to make a wider audience more interested in Newgrounds again?

Otto:

"I think it's made a good step with Swivel, the new .swf to .mov software that one of the admins made. That really is top quality freeware, and slowly the conversion of making Newgrounds phone-ready is the key. Soon as content is available on the platforms people want, then it's game again. Newgrounds won't die (I hope). Tom does a good job of keeping relevant, but he is just a man with a small team."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You are an artist. Tell our readers how you started making art. What makes in your opinion an artist a good one?

Otto:

"I've always made art. My godmother is an art teacher in Bristol and she always sent me art supplies which definitely helped. But it's just one of those things - I guess like a lot of kids on Newgrounds who draw, I was on my own a lot as a child. What I've learned so far is that a good artist is someone who can take something true (the fundamentals, physics, things that are human) and bring it somewhere new. So by all means make some crazy demon thing, but make sure the lighting makes sense, the colours are pleasing, and there's an element of reality to make it all make sense."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

How much did Newgrounds help you in improving your art? Can you name one user whol helped you greatly with tips/feedback?

Otto:

"I can say with certainty that if it weren't for Newgrounds I certainly wouldn't be about to spend 3 years of my life studying an animation degree at university (college for Americans). Back in the day I collaborated with a guy called Bertn on a collab about pirates - we got on the front page, and seeing as I was like 15 this blew my mind. Everyone is very willing to help, I only wish I had more energy to collaborate more. I gotta say, if you ask for help on the art forums here, you certainly get it, whether you want it anymore or not!"

Judging from one your posts, you once visited Berlin. Tell me how you experienced your visit there. Would you still like to live there?

Otto:

"Berlin feels like a total wonderland to me, it's no wonder it's so obvious from my userpage I went. It was just over a year ago now, but it's still the best thing I've ever done (even though I recently got back from Italy). I went on a trip around the Berlin Film Festival and it fucking blew my mind. You can bring booze into the cinemas there, and I know it was coincidence, but it snowed the whole time. Valking in a Vinter Vonderland. I'd definitely love to live there for a bit - though people might think I am German because of my name, and I'd have to explain I speak only English, sorry."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Otto:

"This is tricky. I deleted 13k posts to get rid of the vast amounts of secrets I spilled to this website. I guess the main one is that I actually really care what people think of me here. I get warm and fuzzy when people think I'm a 'proper reg', and I get really pissed when some newer user with more posts snarks all over me. I'm very aware it's petty, but sometimes I have to slap my wrist and remind myself to be better than the 2008 days where postcount meant everything. Bad Otto!"

What can we expect from you in the future, Otto?

Otto:

"Well, this is a mighty fine question to answer! In about 10 weeks you can expect an animation from me, and many many more in the years to come as I continue my animation course. I hope for Newgrounds to be my centre of all this. I'll be filling the place up with content, hopefully, as project upon project piles up and I'm finally into the swing of things. Expect good music aswell from my very talented friend Fruitbread. On the BBS side of things, hopefully I'll continue to be chill and reasoned for the rest of my posts. I put my real name to this now, so I can't forget that. Newgrounds isn't as secret and diary-like as when I was 12. The future is coming oooooOoOOOoooOoOOOOoo..."

Suicide and Life

You said that you helped someone to survive, did you ever come to a point where you needed the help of someone else to survive?

tox:

"Killing your self...or not to kill your self... The ones that do, are either the people that have come through it and survived as either the victim of a lesser being of them selves as they soon see, who are moving forward in their life, using their experience as their coping and conquering mechanism, or the ones that are pushed to divulge their tale of weakness and their eventual triumph of mere survival. Or people that toyed with the idea, maybe joked with their friends about cutting their wrists, or in a deluded state imagined someone else hanging from a tree, maybe shooting them selves, trying to imagine the horrors of war or un balancing their health to a level that they would surely perish from the choices and life style.

Then there are the people that don't speak... or the ones that will step back from the crowd, maybe saying that the conversation is disturbing, or they have something else to do... maybe they just go quiet into thought, putting on a well practiced mask of a smile and a forced laugh to hide from the feelings that swirl in their head like some kind of nightmarish merry-go-round with blades for seats, poisons for candy, suffering souls for music and a conductor that has cranked the dial so high that to attempt to step off is to surely fell them selves in a glorious show of pain and tears that would eventually lead to a full 30 seconds of a news caster the next evening for all the world to see and shake their head in dishonor or failing respect...

To say the truth, a number of years ago I did not know why someone would want to end their life, how anyone could imagine in their darkest dreams to end the only thing they are given... life... in all its remarkable beauty and glory.

Age 12, joy... the world is filled with bliss, magic, euphoria, hope, dreams, beauty with every sun rise, and danger with every moon... homework in the evening, (that I never did) and food! The culinary perfections of the world around me, beauty in every taste

Age 15, starting to ask questions about people, race, religion, sex, by now I have gotten into furry things and find the art to be amazing how some of the looks of creatures could inspire feelings in me from love to desire, from moral challenge to thoughts that compel you to sit alone at night and think about a fictional characters life... and their challenges.

My moral compass is starting to sway in a direction not of right and wrong in even the higher sense of the idea, but rather to an idea of, what would society want if ever given the decisions I was starting to make by my self as a flourishing mind and being. My second love of my life came a year later telling me that I was not like the other guys... I was ...different... ... did not think the same way...

Age 17, suspended from school indefinitely, pending a full psychiatric evaluation on mental stability...medication...pills...chemicals...dai ly, every 12 hours... the terms, suicidal... dangerous... hazardous to the health of others...psychotic... killer... never spoken in front of me but haunting the papers and minds of people around me Age 19, put a loaded gun to my head.

A challenge in me, to define what I was... no plea to a higher power, no scream of terror, no people by my side or authorities staying me... no tears... the pills took care of those... Just me and a way out of a life I would rather give away then have to endure.

To fit into a given life... and society, as classified by the governments, societies, clicks, and groups around me, I had to be everything I was not. Meaning that I was wrong, that everything that I was, what I was given, what I was to become was some kind of mistake, that no matter how hard you try to delete the file, erase the answer, paint over it, or construct new walls to barricade the truth... the splintering, the glow, the very smell of the idea was foul to the life that I had been given.

There were fewer answers as time went on... you learn to push the thought of what your life is to the back of your mind, as what I am told is what most people start to do at my age now... starting to settle into a life of ever increasing challenges and stressors that come from the society that we as humans use to survive.

To this day I still wonder if I made the right choice in leaving my door unlocked so that if a curious sibling yondered, the outcome may have been different then what ultimately transpired... a fight, a bullet in my wall, that was eventually patched and covered by a painting so that no one could see the minor discoloration of the paint, and be able to question the need to paint over a cracked and splintered object.

Many people think about suicide, on how it is selfish, cruel, and painful to those around them, then able to joke about it with close friends or acquaintances as they shuffle for dominance in a social group. Drinking or smoking away their ideas and minds until they get to awaken the next morning and come at a new day refreshed and capable of greater statures then the day behind them. Many people think that suicide is some kind of unuttered joke, a dream that if given the choice, the sky in their world would flicker once and their decision made that the very idea sounds crazy or so far beneath them that the idea is laughable and until challenged about the idea, would never care about the feelings of depression, or hating them selves.

Then there are some that feel the pains inside of them, how suffering, lies, loss of feeling, unrest, darker thoughts, and the very foundations of their world that they see morph or crumble beneath them in a desperate circumstance of bargaining and endurance. To digress is to fall victum to the demons inside them . To fight is to keep your head above the ever rising tide of water that so far has been unsuccessful in claiming their breath, that they are told they want.

To these people the idea of suicide is not foreign, some of them cut to test to see if they are awake or still living in their nightmare, some of them will make knots in rope and imagine them selves inside of the tie as they pull the 2 ends so tight that it makes their muscles burn and their tears flow, some may pray at church, then go home and ask the lord for a second favor, giving them the courage to pull the trigger... some will drink their pain away, or get so high that they cant even feel their mind as it churns with the idea of the pain that it causes them

Me... I come at life with memories, the feeling of a cool barel stroking my hair... the weight of a clip and machine that if I wanted it to, I could paint a murrel And I am at peace with that idea.. its not something I talk about readily, its not something that I do when I get sad, or angry with my self, not something that I threaten or desire, but rather a piece of my past that brings me comfort vs the pain of the events that lead to it."

Tell me about one person that you saved...this person was in need of help... but did you ever feel like you couldn't help this person? Were you afraid of being not able to help despite your best efforts? And was there someone who you could not save/help?

tox:

"One person I saved...

"Saved" is a term given medically to reversing the affects of an event or condition where without help the subject would perish or deteriorate to a point where the idea of life is no longer sustainable/ desirable for its cause.

In the grandeur of the idea of pulling someone from a burning building, or out of a car and giving a life sustaining breath I have no stories. No heroics, no tales, no little quips of an older me saving someone them snapping to and looking at me with a query and a cough.

To digress, the term "saved" also means desirable outcome... And in that sense to make it more desirable then what they as individuals have currently in their life.

On a nightly basis I get online, I talk to people, some here on NG, some in other games like imvu, or msn and skype, and I push them.

Take a human... moving along in life, has a job, pays their bills, maybe has a gf or bf, maybe their only real friend is a cat or a little puppy named spot ;) and here they sit stagnant in life, not moving ahead, not really moving backwards, at peace with the world around them... you would be in awe of the number of people like this that you can find between the ages of 19-24 M/F has a high school cert, kind of debating about collage or university, no real money but a good mind on their shoulders, has a job now and is going to be moving out soon so that they can start to live their life, is shy, and does not really want to upset anyone/hurt anyone, is looking for love, is a little under read or mildly read, and thinks not with their head... but what their friends say, or what they think the internet says .

Introduce an asshole... Who "does not care" if the other person does not themselves. Someone that will systematically encroach, befriend, slander the past, glorify the future, push, control, twist, empower, then set free onto a life that gives power to user, because of previously under-manipulated life styles and no drive to reach for something that is so much better...

I do not have stories of heroism, nor bravery to defy what nature wants, all I have is students/friends

Just last year a friend of mine graduated from his petroleum engineering course, when he wanted to drop out and follow an idea of a rough neck because it would have been easier than school. I like to boast about twins that I called on their bluff, wanting to take acting when one was in business management, the other in building engineering, both now gainfully employed. The up and coming accountant who was thinking of just going for an arts degree, Miss. secretary that wanted to quit at the beginning of grade 12 who is actually thinking about going back now to go into law and only because she has the job working inside of a court house... and trust me she was a difficult girl, but now she is able to dream that kind of reality...

Currently I have a number of students that are just going through the end of high school and most of them are excited about their education in given fields that would be "cool", Friends inside of arts, law, business, management, oil, the military

All it takes is the asshole to get in front of them, ruffle their feathers a little, then start the process of freeing their mind to the idea that they themselves are FAR more capable then what they think, then all it takes is a leading hand to show them what.. They can reach for and not only acquire, but capture and use to further them selves in their life. (you know who you are, and I know that when you read this the first words out of your mouth are going to be "oh fuck me... that bastard has been... faaaack" ... I got plan for you, remember that)

And then there is the other side of the tale, about helping people... Back probably 5 years ago I learned that some people just don't want to move forward in life, be it social challenges or a highly abusive family life... there have been 2 times that I have had to separate a friend from their family before I could even start to get them to move forward.. And at which point it becomes a balancing act of control for the future vs the past and what each have to offer...

In both cases the friendship failed because of mounting stressors that come with moving out, an abusive set or parent and a lifestyle of dependence, education and work at the same time, the first not as bad as the second, at least with the second, the friendship lasted as long as her getting a little medical training, a little bit of supervisor experience, and starting to get her drivers license. I do have my failures, "her's" was one of my biggest because I was starting out and did not understand how to push someone correctly against the idea of going back to a family where nothing will change.

That one still bugs me a little only because it was so close to pulling through... + she was cute and a furry.

A bit of advice was given to me when I started my medical courses a little while ago... "All those in need of saviors, may not find the hand so soon as it will be able to save them. All we do is provide and pray, because we like god work in mysterious ways"

You mentioned recently that you see violent happenings, like demons torturing people, are you afraid of those demons, that their showcased brutality becomes a reality, that maybe for you and the ability to determine what real and what is not will go away? Are you afraid of your self?

tox:

"Afraid of my self...

I guess the best answer is that of the answer I came to the night that put my gun to my head and what I was thinking vs what I think of it now...

To most the answer is as simple as: Think some bad shit Put gun to head... pull trigger... <sentence done>

Or

Put gun to head... don't pull trigger... pray, beg, cry, fail, try again tomorrow until someone or something stops you.

So how could the answer ever be complicated...

Apart from the thinking.. and there was a lot of it... I ended up deciding that the best course of action was to allow the world to continue to spin, without me knowing about it And if not for my little brother wanting to show me the newest game he just downloaded I don't think I would be here writing to you...

By today's standard, my thoughts, the ideas behind it... it is still something that I think about... if I made the right decision.. If I could go back and talk to my self, and have the door locked, so that it would be just me... would I have ended up not being here...

In all honesty.. I don't know if there was much else to tell my self that I was not already thinking about... From the pain I would cause my family, to the life that I would give up, what the future might hold, what I had gotten over, what I was struggling with, how it would affect my brother and sister, even down to the cleanup I was calm and thinking of the advantages and disadvantages of moving the trigger.

Fast forward to today, and you see about the same outline of person, same height, blue eyes, brown hair that is curly when it gets long, wanting to volunteer and contribute to the society around him, same smile, and difficulties...just a little more experience.... In reality, it really is not something that you can run away from. As long as the challenge remains, so will the question, and if the question is what am I, and the answer comes out as what was written down on the paper and mind of others... then I will never really be free.

To a lot of people that know me I am still that same psychotic time bomb that was writing things on desks in grade 10 that as I found out made the student that found it originally resign from school and start to get home schooling (It was that kind of.... Fuck! This shit is going down... get me the hell out of here) So here I am.. 22 years old, happy because of daily happenings, and pliable to be able to not only function but to thrive in the world around me...

Do I fear my self? Do I fear the demons that preview random acts of violence to nice people, friends, family, pets, animals and even inanimate objects? Do I enjoy the view of watching things in my head that make me wince, blink twice, and have to remain professional, smiling, or helpful to people when they need me, when all I want to do is look away..

It's a yes and no... Fear of me losing a grip on reality is ...it makes me want to sit down and become closed to the world, it allows my weaker side that is not really able to cope with the ideas and images to come out and take the lead in my head... and I know that if I allow that to happen, I will decline quickly and start to slide down the mental slope that I don't want to fall from...

Do I fear the demons regularly? No.. I cant... because if I allow the fears in me to overwhelm me, then I fear that the walls between this world and my mind will fall and such atrocities may come out to explore... a situation that would hurt a lot of people... ....

So, here I am ... needing to semi entertain the idea, even if I don't want to, fearing the outcome of either end result...

A tight rope walking act.

The forums of Newgrounds are a place that you have been visiting since years. Tell me moments where you felt proud/happy of being a forum user. On the other hand, did you ever feel ashamed of the forums?

tox:

"I think that every time that a friend got to a certain post count... or when I got to 10,000 post... It seems like such a long time ago too... There have been a number of times that a few mods have locked threads and refused to unlock them that kinda pissed me off a little... OH! The two times that I epic trolled with Xenomit... getting to 2 pages of people going back and forth on a topic and then us bust in and photo troll everyone that they had all been had.

IF...IF.... We want to count times outside of the bbs, (while still bbs users) I remember a time not to long ago, where I was pretending to be two differnet people and kept a conversation going for a good 30 minuets before one of the users left, and I continued on just normally until I bust in with a "hey guys... guess what" Responces to follow:

Noo..... .... Noo.... (said in a way of denial of what just happenend) "GOD FUCKING DAMIT TOX I HATE YOU SOOO FUCKING MUCH RIGHT NOW!!! Fucking! Cuntnugget!" That and few people were silent... It has been well over a month now, and I still laugh at that first response... if the situation was made out of shit... it would be golden shit turds of the master tr0ll@h"

Did you ever think about how your life will end some day? What were your thoughts in that moment, do you believe in a life after death? If so, describe your after life scenario. Does it determine your actions? If you don't believe in a life after death, do you still think that whatever you do truly matters, when it all ends after all?

tox:

"How I think I am going to go out of this world, and what I think about it all..

I am debating what I should say vs what I should actually say. Understand that some of the things... that if I were truthful and in detail.. I would not only not be allowed on the internet for a few years, but I would most likely find my self a new room mate within the halls of a medium or maximum security prison for a part of my life...

Understand that I am also going into a police career, TO HELP PEOPLE.. I have ALWAYS wanted to protect people, (either from my self, the world around the person or from others vs others) and above ALL else I am ethically a good man Ideally I wish I could be in the bomb disposal unit.. And please don't think that I am boasting ... I think the very idea of rushing into something to save life, property, virtue, integrity, safety, and peace... is awesome! And is something that has captivated me from a very young age.. What could be cooler, and more thrilling in life, then rising in the morning, and saying to your self that you are going to be putting on a class 5 suit, and clipping wires on a bomb planted by a terrorist organization in a bank, whose only intent was to harm, mane, and destroy.

Leaving that on one hand, I also have other not so... cheerful thoughts.. But many came from a few years back, when I was scribbeling on desks...

The sorts of ideas that can take just a regular student and make them want to flee from a school :/ Ideas that would end more then 100% of the time end with police gunning me down in a hail of bullets :/ Ideas that would make headline news articles all over the world :/ ...

Many of those thoughts I do not even entertain anymore... its part of a past that I have pushed back and off of my self... Mainly because that is neither who I am, want to be, and in such a deeply opposite direction from what; I want to show the world around me that the person I am, is honor bound, is someone to get behind and cheer on, because I am someone that will make them proud but if I start telling people...anyone... some of the darker thoughts that reside in me, the side of me that still smiles a little at those ideas, they would hear the words.. and would probably think I am talking about some kind of post apocalyptic world war scene... to which I, with a well practiced tongue, play off as a story or a new game I was playing, OH and let me tell you it was absolutely terrible. I mean the graphics... shit.. and the main gun that the creators gave you and the AI's all have such a shitty way of looking down the sights... and they auto spawn and you can actually see them spawn and drop to the ground... Some truth.. some lies, and you as an individual would be happy that I was talking to you on a subject that we can both semi follow .

If my future is dictated from my past then I will lead my self to the conclusion that I am who I am and that cannot be changed or fixed and I may not be around all that long, but it is because I believe that I am no longer the person that wants to instill fear in people, I can push forward at a rate that will allow me to be the character that anyone would want to put infront of them selves and the world around them, and say fix that so I feel safe...

I am living my after life scenario... It did not come contrary to a violent act or a moment of fear, there were no tears in needing to let my old self go, or rather attempt to... it came from an idea of what I could be... if I let a part of me die.

The after life is shit btw... all it can think about is when it was happy... when everything was simple... When everything was peaceful... When everything was alive.. and ready to fight for any cause that stood before it... It all kind of falls to shit..."

Honesty is a virtue, or is it. Kids nowadays, get taught that small lies are okay. Do you agree? Do you lie to make situations easier? Where is the boarder for "good" and "bad" when it comes to a lie?

tox:

"Everyone lies... ... Everyone.... Lies From the nicest person, the most honorable police officer, the volunteer at the food bank, the old grandmother walking past you on the street. Your boss, your friends, governments, and sometimes even inanimate objects... But it all stems from a human element, everything we touch, we corrupt, we... soil, with our perverted ideas and way of life... in the movie, avatar, by James Cameron, we hear the story of the sergeant that has a clawed up face, how he could have surgery to correct it, but he likes to stay it, so that it reminds him of the harsh reality that if you allow life to gain on you, it will spit you up and our, after slicing your throat

We lie to survive. We put a mask on to lie to ourselves and others. We fib to get ahead of the next person. We exacerbate, extravagate, lead on, fool anyone we can... so that we individually can learn to be better liars. We steel, we infect, we destroy, we rape... then after all is said and done... "Wasn't me" We are selfish to the core... its how we are designed

Honesty.. to a human... in not in the light of right or wrong, its how can we screw you over more so that "I win, you lose"

Humans are based on pain and suffering, lies and deceit... many males will lie to have sex, many females will lie to put them selves ahead of other females for a position in the get fucked line... Your dog shits on your floor; it will run away when it sees you coming towards them... "Nope, nope, that wasn't me, it was the cat.. no it was the fish, wasn't me" tail between legs... a shit lie... (huehueuhehue). Your kid eats a cupcake that you said not to touch, they get big eyes and try to wipe the crumbs off their face and lie to you that it was not them that ate the cupcake... a small lie... Bp oil lies that it did everything it can to prevent an oil spill America lies that it wants peace in the Middle East Religion lies (and I aint getting into that)

Human nature... we on a basic level... are fucked, and it is because we don't know in our genetics to undo this... that it is our fundamental error in existence.

We don't know how to lay down and die we don't understand how to set our selves aside and be everything we are not a virus does not understand how to pull back and say "you know, im not going to infect you... have a good day" we... cant even begin to think that idea...

what is the difference between an ok lie, and a bad lie? For us individually... a good lie will get us even 0.000001% closer to getting layed A bad lie is the opposite of that.

For our species... We... don't have such an ability to understand how to not lie, and that to a different species... I am sure is a virtue that would make them not want to even interact with us."

This week's interview features the user LiquidFire.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Tally1989 and why did you change it to LiquidFire?

LiquidFire:

"I originally discovered Newgrounds, when I was 11 or 12 I think, I'm 23 now. I used to go to this youth club that was also a kids circus, me and my friends would always spend a lot of time in front of the computers, playing flash games with each other, and one of our favorite sites to play on was of course Newgrounds. Although I signed up a lot later than that. The reason why I decided to create an account, was because I noticed that I could get higher voting power if I had one. I quickly signed up because I thought I could become some kind of "god of voting", but I was disappointed when I saw how long it took to get your voting power up. My first name on Newgrounds was Tally1989, Tally was a nickname I was given by a friend of mine who I called shorty. Tally is supposed to be a play on the word tall, just like Shorty is a play on the word short. Most people don't get that, and they end up pronouncing it tal-ly, whereas my friend pronounced it tall-ee.

I wanted to change my username to LiquidFire, since it's the alias I use on almost any other site, and I like consistency. I originally adopted the name when I went to something called efterskole, which is a type of school in Denmark that can be compared to a boarding school, where me and friends would sit in the computer area and play Soldat. I got inspired to come up with LiquidFire from Metal Gear Solid and the movie Hackers. Metal Gear Solid was one of my favorite games back then, still is though, and Liquid Snake was one of my favorite characters from that game. Hence why I used Liquid. In the movie Hackers, the characters hacker aliases would consist of 2 words. For example Phantom Phreak, Cereal Killer, Acid Burn, Crash Override and Zero Cool. Which is why I choose to use Fire in my nickname as well, instead of just Liquid."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

LiquidFire:

"I definitely changed since I joined, both as a user and in real life. I've changed school/work many times since I joined Newgrounds, which has definitively affected my personality as well. I'd like to think I changed into a better person, but I'm not so sure about that."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

LiquidFire:

"There are many users I like here on Newgrounds. But they don't really affect how I am. People rarely affect how I am as person. Often because I don't let them get close enough for that to happen. I can be a very shut in person."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

LiquidFire:

"Well, there are definitely person I don't like on Newgrounds, but I wouldn't consider them my enemies. I'm quick to judge people, but I am also quick to forgive people as well. So if people for some reason piss me off, I'll quickly forget about. Although there are a few users who have been able to keep me annoyed at them for extended amounts of time."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

LiquidFire:

"I love the BBS. I feel like Newgrounds wouldn't be the same without it. It's also one of the only forums I post on, facepunch is the only other forum I regularly post on. I don't really prefer a specific part of the forums over another. But I tend to browse general more than the others, so I guess you could say general is my favorite. There's a few I'd like to see interviewed, like Gagsy, Fluffington, Dean, Murray, DrClay and Xaotik. Mostly Xaotik though."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

LiquidFire:

"Well, I don't really think they do a good job. I often see people getting away with stuff they wouldn't allow back in the old days. Like posting unrelated pictures, creating +1 topics/forum games, such as the Song titles plus "in my ass" thread, chat threads such as the Bat Crew or putting a signature on each post in the BBS. But if the mods feel comfortable to have those around now, then I guess I'm fine with it. I've just always seen Newgrounds as being a place where such threads was a nono. So it's kind of weird for me to see that they're suddenly allowed."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

LiquidFire:

"Well, yes and no. It would be a nice gesture to be offered that. But I'm not sure I would accept. Mostly because it wouldn't feel the same to browse Newgrounds if I also had to moderate it. I would prefer if EyeLovePoozy came back instead of me getting modded. He was a great mod, a bit harsh sometimes but he was great overall."

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

LiquidFire:

"Newgrounds was my haven back then, it was a place for me to sit back and relax while watching movies, play games or listen to music. I don't see it as my haven anymore though, video games has taken that place. Newgrounds is now a place I visit if I want to kill some time."

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

LiquidFire:

"I love it. I love that it feels so much more fresh than the previous one, it also brought a lot of new things with it, which is often great. The staff also seems to be pushing out more and more new stuff, which they never seemed to do before. Almost makes me wonder what the hell they where doing back then. I can't really put my finger on anything bad, except of course the bugs that came with the redesign."

In one your posts you showcased the wish to be able to freely choose a level icon that is lower than your current one. What other changes would you like to added for Newgrounds?

LiquidFire:

"Userpage banner would be nice to get back, it was nice to be able to customize your userpage more than what we currently can. Customizable background, animated user icons and forum titles could also make some nice additions. But I'm not so sure that animated icons and titles would be well received."

I have a feeling that you like the The Legend of Zelda series. Which game of the series is your favorite one and why?

LiquidFire:

"I love most of them, but I'd have to say Majoras Mask. I have many many fond memories of that game. I used to play it all the time when I was a kid."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You are a member of The Bat Crew. Tell our readers about that group. Why have you chosen to be Harley Quinn?

LiquidFire:

"I originally didn't like the concept about the Bat Crew, since It's basically a chat crew, which I still see as a nono on Newgrounds. So I decided I wouldn't join, Harley Quinn was also taken by another user at that time, and she was the only character I was interested in. But then Harley Quinn got open, and I decided I'd give it a try, and I was actually positively surprised. Most of the users in the Bat Crew where really friendly. But unfortunately, the crew seems to be getting slower and slower, probably due to people talking about kicking the DC characters with super powers (superman etc.) out of the group, because it often felt redundant or unfair to characters in the Batman universe which don't have super powers."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

LiquidFire:

"That's a tough one, since I don't really have any interesting secrets or anything interesting to tell about myself."

What can we expect from you in the future, LiquidFire?

LiquidFire:

"Nothing exciting. Probably just forum browsing. I'm not the most creative person on the planet, so I doubt I'll be creating anything I can submit to Newgrounds."
