Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Cyberdevil.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Cyberdevil?

Cyberdevil:

"My earliest memories of Newgrounds are a blur. I don't know how or through who, if anyone, I managed to stumble upon this creative oasis, but I do know it happened late 2003. At the time I was new to the net and hungry on exploring so I signed up at all kinds of shady forums and entertainment portals, most of which have disappeared over the years. Flash was a big thing back then and there were plenty of alternatives like Flipsided,Flash-Graphique, Musty Windows, Zellomesh and Smosh (all with a portal of their own) that I also signed up for. I didn't have any previous experience with making flash, or music, or photoshops, or webdesign but I started learning all the arts simultaneously. It was all new ground, and a lot of fun!

I'd like to say my username has some underlying message or meaning, but it was just the first thing I thought of that sounded cool when I was asked for a username. I'm also a big fan of Doom, so you could say it's a play with the Cyberdemon (a vicious cybernetic beast with rocket launchers for arms) from that game. Devil > Demon. Looking back, it's a good choice considering how much time I spend online, and it's not exclusive to NG, I use it everywhere."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Cyberdevil:

"I've been here for almost a decade, so of course I've changed, both here and in real life. When I look back at old forum posts and reviews it looks like I've improved from all angles, in grammar, in manners, even my knowledge of the net. Back then I couldn't even find Doom sprites through Google! I was a shame to my name. ;) In real life I've gone through middle school, high school, collage, and now I'm studying at a few different universities at a distance (Creative Writing & Web-design). It's a constant evolution!"

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Cyberdevil:

"I like a lot of users on NG. Apart from the admins, I've always looked up to XwaynecoltX as the top reviewer; also one of the few people who was active at both NewGrounds and RetroGade when that site was still around (an art portal created by Josh Bedn). When I was starting out here all the users who topped the toplists, especially reviewers, were an inspiration. Now there are so many devoted people like Nae and Murray who care for the site and spawn creative ideas that really keep this place alive. There are also a ton of great artists of which I couldn't name just a few, better see my favorites for a more detailed (but far from complete) list of people I like. ;)"

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Cyberdevil:

"I do hold a grudge against whomever hacked my account a few years ago. That was really no fun at all, with years worth of submissions and memories irreversibly purged in just a moment. Aside from him/her/them there's really no one in particular, and I don't consider anyone an enemy."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Cyberdevil:

"Since I returned, after not having commented on more than news for a few years, there are a lot of new faces, and a lot of new trends, and a lot of people I don't remember with post counts above 10k. :) There are also many more categories now than there were earlier, and a lot of dedicated users in each one, helping out, answering questions, giving feedback on creative work. Overall it feels like the userbase has evolved along with the site, even if the General forum is crazy as always. :)

In terms of appearance and function the BBS has always been very refined compared to other forums, with categories that seem carefully selected and related to the site and features that are integrated seamlessly with the layout. The user icons and sigs are all the right size, the amount of links you can use is limited, you can't embed entire galleries or pictures that break the page, and there's no Edit button so users need to think before they post. I've always liked how the lack of features add to the experience, even though it was probably just a missing feature from the start.

Right now I'm mostly active on the general forums and Wi/Ht. I like general because the posting requirements are leisurely compared to the others, and the topics can be about virtually anything, so it's a stimulating and fun place to post things. As for Wi/Ht, helping users is a rewarding task, and that's where all the lists are: the top reviewers, top medal users, the pentalist, the hexalist, the octalist, the list of lists, etcetc. I've liked those lists even before I was in them. :) As for which forum I prefer, I couldn't favor only one. If I had the time I'd like to be on all of them, especially the creative ones. The mobile forum is the only one I wouldn't have anything to contribute to. Interviewees? How about Little-Rena, Nae, Murrayand Earfetish! Off the top of my head."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Cyberdevil:

"As long as they're not banning me, they're doing OK. ;) Since I haven't been around for the past few years I can't say much about most of the current mods. There are a lot of new faces, but I'm glad many of the old dedicated users seem to have attained such positions. It looks like the current set are made up of users who really care about the community, and it looks like they're taking care of it well. Some of the previous ones were just plain power-hungry and abusive. The current moderation is with moderation."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Cyberdevil:

"It's nothing I strive for, but I wouldn't mind being a mod. :) If so, I'd probably be most suited for reviews or submissions (in any portal). Or icons. Icons I can do."

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

Cyberdevil:

"In 2007 it was more of an upgrade than it was a renovation. The differences before and after the 2012 redesign were much more significant. In 2007, the focus did change from being about 'the problems of the future today' to 'everything by everyone', but the core remained the same. There was still a link to the portal in the main menu. The site was still all about Flash. Even the layout had the same basic structure, though the graphical elements (and probably code) were much improved. It wasn't a makeover that required much readjustment from the users, it was just a huge improvement, and to show for it the site received a surge of new visitors. The forums were flooded with noobs. It was an interesting time, and the batting average and NG Mag disappearing wasn't that big a letdown in the face of all amazing change.

There was also the username lockdown. Prior to the redesign, users were actually able to change their usernames, but since 2007 any such requests have had to go through admins. That didn't affect me, but I remember a lot of users hurrying to change their names while they had the chance. :) As for the new layout I embraced everything about it. The color and theme was the same, yet it was spacier, smoother and overall much easier to use. I still think the main 2007 menu is much better than than the new one, since all options were available at once without having to rely on drop-downs. The levels and badges were probably my favorite change, the number of levels doubling from 30 to 60, along with the amount of auras (from 3 to 6).

The user profiles received custom URLs too, so you could link to them by username instead of user ID. I don't remember if the feature to post news was launched at the same time as the redesign, but that was another great change. All of a sudden users had their own page and an ability to change it as they liked, and since then the new features have just kept popping up! Dumping grounds, art portal, equalizer for audio submissions, eh... other stuff. This place keeps getting better and better. :)"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Cyberdevil:

"The 2012 redesign was harder to embrace than the previous one, since it wasn't just an improvement. At first I didn't like it at all. The background image was distracting, the glossy buttons were way too flashy, the new gradient of gray was way too dark, and the red underlines that I get from browser spellcheck were hard to see in the bright orange textboxes. The feature to view all submissions by a certain author was also no longer viewable on a submission page, and the mature section was missing, and user stats were no longer featured on the main page of a users profile.

I've gotten used to most of these changes, and grown to like the new layout, but I'll probably never get used to the drop-down menus and the lack of a button that leads directly to the classic portal, even though I cope with them by use of bookmarks. To me drop-down menus are a step in the wrong direction in terms of usability (not to mention how they get in the way of games if you accidentally move the mouse over a button while playing something), and I don't like seeing the classic Portal phased out as the 'main page' of the site in favor of thumbnailed sections, though I understand the reasoning behind the change, and how it'll make NG futureproof if Flash is no longer the main content form of this site in the future. If an option could be included in a user's profile to switch off the drop-downs, and to switch the Games and Movies buttons in the menu with Portal and Submit, then I'd be happy. :)

It's not all negative though. I'm happy with the increase in browsing speed, even though I've been receiving more Internal Server Errors since the redesign, and I'm happy with the simplified reviewing system, and the notifications, and playlists, and the new wiki, chat, calender, emoticons, embedding feature, favorism system and plethora of new features and functions that are constantly being added. :)"

One change that was implemented after the initial redesign is the playlist function. Do you like this feature?

Cyberdevil:

"It's a great feature! When they add the ability to find playlists based on a specific submission title or type and the ability to see how many views a playlist has it will be perfect. :) I don't use the feature much, yet, but it has great potential, for all types of content but especially for audio submissions. Listening to music of a certain genre or artist will be much easier now."

Your recently made the flash game NG BBS Quiz 2012 won a daily award. Are you happy that it got one and can we expect similiar Newgrounds related quizzes in the future?

Cyberdevil:

"It's a first award for both me and Amaranthus so we're definitely happy about it. :) If all goes according to plan there will be another quiz like this one next year, and maybe others along the way. I've been thinking of making some kind of NG related quiz for some time, but never gotten around to it, so maybe I will... get around to it. This one was fun to make, and it was fun seeing what great response it generated. :)"

Apart from making flashes, most users surely heard at least one of your many audio submissions. When did you start making music? Do you consider going back to releasing audio on Newgrounds?

Cyberdevil:

"I've been taking piano and guitar lessons since I was small, but music in digital form was something I didn't get started with until middle school. I remember being introduced to Ejay (a program that allows you to compose tracks with layers of pre-made samples) in music class, and soon after that the company my dad worked for sponsored a special Ejay Dance 3 release of which we were given a bundle. It was a fun and simple way of creating music, and I started experimenting with it just before I joined NG. Since then I've tried various versions of Ejay and some other programs like Sony Acid, Midi Maker and Fruity Loops to make an abundance of sound. Ejay is still a favorite though, it's just so... simple. :D I just recently bought a bundle of old Ejay editions that I'm looking forward to trying out, so you will definitely be hearing more audio from me! Maybe even some vocal work if I can get my hands on a good microphone."

Do you like the audio portal in its current state and what could be improved in your opinion?

Cyberdevil:

"I think the audio portal has improved greatly the past few years. Since the new redesign, it's even possible to view all audio submissions, page by page, a feature that has been missing for a long time. I feel the interface to play music has improved as well, as has the quality of submissions. The fact that most submissions nowadays are uploaded in high quality, with a large filesize, makes for large filesizes in flash submissions. It would be nice if Newgrounds could encode an uploaded submission into different bitrates upon upload, so that you can download either a full-size version for personal listening, or a compressed version for including in flash. Since Flash doesn't support bitrates above 128kbps this would be particularly useful in avoiding any import issues that aspiring artists might have when trying to include an audio track in their work. 64 kbps might be a good alternative to the original bitrate. Other than that I'm impressed at how the Audio Portal has evolved, and how much quality music there is now. Back in the day there was only ParagonX9. :)"

Wandering through your newsposts, I stumbled upon some poems that you wrote. When did start writing poems? Can you share one of your poems with us that you especially like?

Cyberdevil:

"I've written poems since elementary school, I think. Not just poems, but lyrics and short stories, and long stories, and I have a few unfinished books in the works. Just one poem? Hmm, here's a short one:

" I like my life The like of life Was never seen By hungry eyes Eyes like to live I like to give My eyes the right Insight in life "

You have your own blog CyberD where you post news , reviews of movies, your poetry and more. Which movie of the last 5 years impressed you the most?

Cyberdevil:

"Inception. It's the one movie I can't favor enough. There are just no flaws! I've watched the movie a few times and every time I'm amazed at how flawless it is, in narrative, in plot, in soundtrack, in everything. The story is as complex as the filmography is, and it's strange that I like it so much since it's a movie that really doesn't reflect my overall taste of movies at all, nor does it feature any of my favorite actors. Apart from this one exception that supremely bends the rule, I tend to watch a lot of action, especially martial arts. Fight scenes where the actors are also great fighters are the parts of movies I enjoy the most. Anything with someone like Donnie Yen, Tony Jaa, Jet Li, Jacki Chan, Yuen Biao is bound for greatness. :)"

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Cyberdevil:

"Well, my secrets are secrets, but as for things you don't know about me yet... did you know that I spend three months living in the wild Northern Norths of Sweden, without access to Internet, without a computer, without even television, and with 23km to the nearest local store... every summer? In 2012 I timbered a woodshed completely by hand, with round timber from trees that had been drying in the sun for a few years. My only tool was an axe and a drill, and it took me three summers to complete. It's a sturdy construction that will hopefully live longer than I will! If you somehow did know that, then... you probably don't know that... I have a comic collection numbering the thousands, that I actually had my own Flash Portal for about a month, that my favorite soda is Cherry Coke, favorite color is Orange (wisdom), favorite number is 1337, favorite game is Oni and my Grandmother is 93 years old and her sister is 97."

Cyberdevil:

"You can expect great things, reviews and ratings, random posts and debatings at the BBS when I'm late in, or procrastinating, and some new flash in the paving, creations I'm crafting and crating, medals I'm craving and raking in the hope of making the hexalist before the daily sunrays at days end on my great vacation. In other words, a little bit of everything. Thanks for reading; thanks for the interview! ;)"

Interview with Cyberdevil

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Oolaph.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Oolaph?

Oolaph:

"I was first exposed to Newgrounds sometime around 2004. My uncle used to show me a bunch of cartoons from the portal all the time, and I was hooked on finding new flashes to watch for years to come. Five years passed before I even entertained the thought of getting that mysterious Grounds Gold account. It wasn't until I finally decided to click that "Forums" button and lurked around General for a day or two that I realised just how much fun and joy I was missing out on. So in late 2009, I finally made an account, started posting, and had an identity on Newgrounds.

I barely remember how I came up with the name Oolaph, though I know the name existed a good while before I made this account. Who knows where I got it from, I'd been using the name for various things before getting my account, and I guess I just decided to take it as my alias or whatever when I used it here. I now use Oolaph for my username anywhere, it's kind of my second name now."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Oolaph:

"I've certainly changed in one way or another, be it from Newgrounds' influence or not. I think I've generally become a lot more laid back and generally more apathetic as time has passed. I used to try to be funny and make jokes to make people laugh on the forums, but now I don't really care. I just post to post and have a nice time."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Oolaph:

"A good bit of people that I first liked when I made an account have drifted away, which is unfortunate, but there are still plenty of great users hanging around here. People like Klik, Spirit, SwankyVagrant, Ryanson, Gagsy, ScarletVelvet, SineRider, ZAAL, and Slint are the ones that keep me coming back here. Newgrounds is all about the community for me, and as long as there are cool dudes like them around, I'll be around."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Oolaph:

"I definitely wouldn't consider any users "enemies", that's pretty silly. There are definitely people where seeing threads by them do nothing but entice me to give a discouraged sigh, but it's easy enough to ignore them and I try my best to do so. There's not point in getting mad at other people over small things like that, so I just try to avoid them if I can."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Oolaph:

"I really like spending time in threads on the Clubs & Crews forum, I frequent a good bit of clubs over there. Though I will admit most of my browsing time goes to General, even though I feel like it's gone downhill lately. I don't really find much joy in the General forum anymore, I pretty much just stick around there for the few users I still really like. Also I think Ryanson should get one of these nifty interviews. He's a pretty cool dude and he has plenty to say about stuff."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Oolaph:

"We still have those? I feel like we barely ever see mods actually moderating nowadays. Not that I think they do a bad job, threads still get locked and people still get banned, but I don't feel like we have the same "moderator presence" that we used to. I miss the snarky lock posts and clever ban announcements, now it's just silent punishment for those that need it."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Oolaph:

"f you asked me this question maybe a year or two ago, I would've been all over it. But if I was a forum mod today I think it would feel more like babysitting than helping out with the community. I was an icon mod for a while, and it was fun, but making 140x90 thumbnails for mediocre flashes got old after a while and I stopped a little while after the redesign. I can't really think of any mod positions I would like to have, so I guess my answer is no."

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Oolaph:

"It's pretty cool. Everything still feels very busy, though. I enjoyed the last design because of its simplicity and how it was easy on the eyes for extended periods of browsing. The guys did a great job with this, and it's certainly more interesting to look at, but I think I still liked the last one a bit more."

You bought some stuff from the NG store. What kind of stuff would you like to see in the NG store?

Oolaph:

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Oolaph:

"Despite having him as my icon, the colours of his scarf as my signature, and a replica of his scarf around my neck at this very moment, Tom Baker is not my favourite incarnation of The Doctor. Patrick Troughton, the second Doctor, is actually the one I hold nearest to my heart. I just think Baker's got mad style."

What can we expect from you in the future, Oolaph?

Oolaph:

"Well, I'll always be around, that's for sure. I wouldn't feel right leaving this place. Expect more awfully dull forum posts and possibly maybe perhaps some audio submissions in the future. Probably not the latter, though."

Interview with Oolaph

Posted by Asandir - February 18th, 2013

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Klik.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Klik?

Klik:

"I first found newgrounds way back in 2006 or 2007 while googling for pokemon movies. I eventually made an account in 2008 under the username klik722 . Of course being the foolish child that I was, I lost the password to it, eventually making this account under the name klik28, later having it be changed to just Klik. For why I chose the username Klik, I just have always used that username for anything account related since I was child, having no recollection of how I came up with it."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Klik:

"Oh defiantly, over the course of just 3 years my main account has been here, my views on life have radically changed. If you take a look back on some of my posts, I would always be a tryhard comic which subsequently got me banned alot. I also grew more mature and gained a better taste in music, film, and vidya games."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Klik:

"I kinda see myself as a pretty sensitive person, the slightest humorous insult can set me off into a state of sadness. So anytime a user makes a hurtful comment about me they might peer pressure me into fitting in. As for users I like, most of them have left this site or rarely post anymore, such examples would be ptero, sumidiotdude, Domo, coleco, Valjylmyr, XenonMonkey, Lunaful, and others I'm forgetting at the moment. There are still some good members still consistently posting on this site like Oolaph."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Klik:

"There's a couple of users that used to tick me off constantly whenever they would post something, but I really don't get mad at individual users anymore and more just the user base as a whole. If I had to pick just one special little guy to be my "enemy" though it would be Jolly <3."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Klik:

"I feel as if the forums have gone downhill recently due to poor modship and a ravaging userbase. It may just be me though, growing out of newgrounds, but it still feels like newgrounds has defiantly changed for the worse since the redesign. As for a user you should interview, Oolaph might have something to say."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Iguess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Klik:

"I used to hate the mods like Malachy and others for banning me over stupid offences like "posting in a spam thread". But now I more resent the mods for not banning or locking any threads anymore. Call me a hypocrite, I know."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Klik:

"I think all the users would like to be some sort of moderator of any kind, just to have the kind of power. But of course, like the majority of users, I feel as if being a moderator just won't happen in my near future so I just don't care if I am or not."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Klik:

"I like it, people might complain about it a ton, but people will always complain about something after a long wait. The only thing I would probably improve upon is an edit and a deletion button for posts, so I don't have to PM a mod if I accidently make a double post or if I have some serious spelling and grammar mistakes."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You spent a considerable amount playing The Binding of Isaac, the full version of a demo that origins from Newgrounds users. Would you like to see more works, for example expanded versions or Sequals of popular Newgrounds games on Steam?

Klik:

"I would defiantly like to seem exceedingly difficult beat em up game of some sort inspired by Newgrounds availabe on Steam. I used to play alot of those types of games on Newgrounds in the past and a fully fleshed out game would be amazing. Castle Crashers seems just like that, but I find it to be quite repetitive extremely fast and has lost it's charm for me. I hope to see Battleblock Theater released here soon so Newgrounds can get some attention directed towards the site."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

If you would have to name one game of the last years that impressed you the most, which one would it be and why?

Klik:

"2012 really dissapointed me overall in terms of video games. Mass Effect 3 became one of the biggest disappointments ever for me and Team Fortress 2 started it's downfall with it's free2play userbase and clunky aesthetic it has now. However some games did manage to give me hope for the future of games. "The walking dead", "Journey", and "Tiny & Big: Grandpa's Leftovers" all showed that games can be an artform in which creators can express themselves in, and not just have it be a big commercial product in order for people to buy more mountain dew and doritos."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Klik:

"There's really only one big secret that I actively try keep away from people, so I'll just make one up for you if that works. SECRET: I'm actually a small mongoose actively posting when my owner is gone. There, now tell no one."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future,Klik?

Klik:

"May or may not see less of me in the future, I don't know as of yet, the future is hard to foretell."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Interview with Klik

Posted by Asandir - February 11th, 2013

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user HomicidialFrog.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username HomicidialFrog?

HomicidialFrog:

"I'm pretty sure I found Newgrounds roughly in 2007, though I do remember coming to this site infrequently a long time before then. I never regularly visited the site until 2007 however. Later on in that year I decided to make an account to vote on all my favourite games/movies and what not and maybe even post in the Forums occasionally. Due to how much of an immature idiot I was at 14, I won't even reveal my old account. (You think I'm immature and moronic now? HA! Meet my 14 year self.)

Eventually, I grew incredibly fond of the Clock Crew and ended up making an account called *drumroll* ..."CASHCLOCK!" and joining up at clockcrew.cc. However, a short year later I had produced no flash, despite intending to do so. Truth is, I'm a lazy bastard with no discipline or patience and animation takes a shitload of discipline and patience. The longest animation I ever made with Flash was like 9 seconds long and about 1% complete.

Eventually, a year later I regretted my decision because I realized I'm far too lazy and impatient to make flash animations. I silently left the Clock Crew as silently as I entered. Ah well, no skin off my back. I grew attached to the account and made a few close friends in that year, so I kept using this account. However, I grew sick of the username. People every so often usually commented on my page or PM'ing me and asking why I haven't made a flash but I'm a Clock and I always had to tell them I'm even actually a Clock anymore. It was always the worst every Clock Day.

I also didn't really like being associated with a group I more or less have nothing to do with whatsoever. I kinda felt like being a Clock made some users prejudge me somehow. You could say I was a little self-conscious of having "Clock" in my name.

Eventually, one fateful Clock Day, a few people to my annoyance asked me why I haven't made a flash for Clock Day 2012 and after nearly four years of this crap, I finally asked Wade to change my username to an alias I have often used on other sites. "HomicidalFrog" *epic and dramatic music* *record scratch*...Uh...awkwardly, in my PM to Wade I, by accident, put in a typo and it came out as...well..."HomicidialFrog"...yeah.

How I came up with HomicidalFrog is a mystery. I don't remember, I came up with the name awhile back. I guess I just feel it somehow fits my personality. (AKA Weird and one bad day away from going nuts.) The "Frog" part giving off a "odd" or "weird" aura. (I associate Frogs with weird stuff, for some reason.) The "Homicidal" speaking volumes of my mental instability."

HomicidialFrog:

"I like a lot of users. First of all I need to mention my old time buddies who aren't active on the site anymore but are long old time friends of mine: StalkerClock, Capnchaos and RedbartlettLock. I miss the hell out of those guys. :c They pop on and off every so often, at least. :c

Besides that, my NG chat regular buddies are TailsPrower, e-lord, Little-Kinky, TheRadicalOne, BrazilianNinja, Jay, YenMuffin and Knights and many others I'm probably forgetting. ( Sorry to whoever you are :c ) I hang out on the Chat alot and those guys make it a fun place to be! lots of <3 and xoxoxo's to them fellas!

Then there's other folks on this site I'm friends with like RightWingGamer, Halberd, Sectus, SmartyPants, Skaren, Jester, Ragnarokia, beardkiller, Lionelion and many others who I'm probably forgetting too!"

HomicidialFrog:

"You're probably sick of hearing this, but honestly: Not really. There are definitely a fair number of people on this site that don't like me (I know, right? Madness!) but meh. I honestly don't care. Sorry if this answer is short. :c"

HomicidialFrog:

"I frequent the Forums alot. The fact is, I love the little community there for some bizarre reason. I guess those idiots/weirdos/outcasts have all grown on me. I mostly use General, there are some funny users on there that make me laugh. I occasionally lurk Politics when I'm in a serious mood (Which trust me, does not happen often.), but I rarely post because the majority of topics are about American politics, so I don't know enough about what's being discussed to take part and instead just read. I also occasionally wander into the Video Games Forum and I post and lurk in the MLP thread in Clubs & Crews alot. As for the interviews, pretty much anyone on that like list who hasn't been interviewed."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The Newgrounds chat was implented in April 2012. Tell me what you like about the chat and where you see place for improvements.

HomicidialFrog:

"I love the Chat, mostly because of the people that go on it regularly. I mean, sure, sometimes annoying 10 year olds pop in, but usually they get banned within 20 minutes of arriving as soon as they get out of hand or admit that they're under 13."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

HomicidialFrog:

"The BBS mods do an alright job, they're aren't many trolls and spam pretty much doesn't exist. While at the same time, to my knowledge no one's getting banned for pointless reasons so BBS mods can stroke their dicks and feel big. So, yeah. I think the BBS mods are doing a great job and I don't have any complaints. Chat Mods also do a decent job at keeping the 10 year olds, trolls and spammers out. I honestly don't use the Flash or Audio Portal enough to have an opinion on how Portal/Audio mods are doing."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

HomicidialFrog:

"Honestly, no. Being a moderator doesn't look like much fun. Far too much responsibility and what not for my chaotic mess of a mind to handle."

HomicidialFrog:

"Well, the Chat for one is a great much awaited feature. The website also looks alot more modern and sleek and what not. It took me a few days to get used to, but there's alot of improvements. The games and movie portals are much easier to find specific types of games you're looking for. I like how our icons are used in the Forums now too. That's a nice change. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the redesign."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You seem to be a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Can you tell our readers how you became a fan and what you like about the show? Has being a brony affected your life?

HomicidialFrog:

"Me? A brony? What gave you that clue? :3 I became of a huge fan of MLP just last August when a flash called "My Little Hoagie" came out. A parody of just how easy it is to get your heart stolen by ponies. After watching the animation, I thought to myself "Is it that good? I mean, surely it isn't that brainwashing." and then I remembered the hordes of fanatical fans who treat it like a religion and thought "What the heck?" jumped onto Youtube and typed in these words into the search bar. "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Season 1 Episode 1.". Within 20 seconds of watching, I was already a mindless convert hailing the pony goddesses. I wouldn't really say it's effected my life in any way, to be honest."

HomicidialFrog:

"A few people already know this but among my more radical political beliefs is that I hate democracy with a passion because I think the majority of the human populace is stupid. Therefore, by allowing the majority to make decisions on things far too beyond their tiny brains to comprehend is a silly idea.

"The best argument against democracy is a 5 minute conversation with the average voter." -Winston Churchill.

Also, I'm a British anti-monarchist, I'm very firmly economically right winged (Although somewhat socially centric) and I hate babies because all they do is poop and cry and aren't cute or lovely at all, but are in fact, quite disgusting. Bite me."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future, HomicidialFrog?

HomicidialFrog:

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Knights.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Knights?

Knights:

"Well, I first found out about Newgrounds in the Spring of 2005 through a link. Around that time I was in middle school, so of course being the moronic kid that I was, I though video game references were the coolest thing and since at the time, I was a huge Final Fantasy fan, number seven being my favorite, I chose the name of the most powerful summon in the game, The Knightss of the Round, and changed it to Knights. Of course, in hindsight it's a stupid name and currently I'm trying to opt to change it to just Knightss with the help of Wade."

Knights:

"Oh, God yes. Recently, I began looking at the original post I made back in 07 and my God, were they retarded; full of spelling and grammar mistakes, you name it. The most embarrassing thing about the whole situation was that my best subject in school WAS English, so that's been a double whammy for me. I'm just glad that now my grammar and spelling have improved and that my posts are at least a bit more elegant than they were in the past."

Knights:

"Well, I've made a lot of friends on NG over the years; some are still around, others have moved on with their lives, but I try to keep in touch with as many as I can. Right now the people I most enjoy hanging out with are Provoke (formerly TheCrimsonWidow), BrazilianNinja, Jay, 24901miles, YenMuffin and ReNaeNae. Surprisingly, I have a lot of friends on here that are mods like Timmy and Jay and I like to pal around with them as much as I can."

Knights:

"Well, I'm not the kind of person who holds grudges or has many enemies, but there are members I don't enjoy hanging around like NOTunowned, Xenomit and most of the trolls, for obvious reasons. Other than that, I enjoy most people here on NG and I'd like to think they enjoy my company as well."

Knights:

"Not trying to sound like too much of an old coot, I prefer the forums of yesteryear where there was much more activity on the forums and most topics weren't so insanely boring or annoying to be around. Back in the day, there were at least several threads that were either very funny or interesting or both that spanned dozens of pages, whereas now I'm lucky to find one or two in a single week or more."

Knights:

"Well, I have a lot of friends on Newgrounds who are moderators, so I guess I have a biased view towards them. That being said, I believe most moderators aren't as strict as they have been two or three years ago. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes the trolls tend to wear thin and a lot of us just wish for them to get banned."

Knights:

"Yes, I would like the moderator if only for the comradery behind it; there seems to be a certain difference between mods and regular users that I want to find out. If I ever become a moderator, I wish to become a Chat and Forum moderator because that's where I spend most of my time on Newgrounds, although a Portal mod isn't out of the question."

Knights:

"Honestly, I didn't even know there was going to be a redesign since I had been inactive on Newgrounds for a couple years. The difference between the new layout and the old one took some getting used to, but eventually I got the hang of it and now it's grown on me. Although, for the record, I don't know if the fact that Newgrounds is becoming more like a social networking site is a good or bad thing."

Knights:

"I like that I get to talk to my friends almost instantly. Honestly, I rarely go on the forums because of it and it's also where I met most of my new friends, so it holds a special place in my love for Newgrounds. I can only hope Tom and the NG team are working hard to update the chat into something better ASAP."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You made a newspost about the book Into the Wild. How did you feel reading this book? Are there any other books that impressed you emotionally?

Knights:

"Well, I read Into the Wild for a school project back in the spring of 2010, mostly at the recommendation of a friend. Not expecting much from the book, I was pleasantly surprised at the realness of it all, the fact that not only could this happen, it DID happen. Reading this book has reignited my passion to one day travel cross-country and see this great land that I live in and hopefully beyond that. I recommend this book to anyone with time on their hands and a penchant for reading."

Knights:

"In my opinion, only people of interest have secrets worth hearing and I am/have neither of these things. If I were to have a secret it would be that I love Newgrounds and its community and what it does for the internet and the world as a whole, but I don't mind sharing that secret to people. All in all, I'm proud of Newgrounds and what it has done for me both as an artist and as a person."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future, Knights?

Knights:

""I'll still be here when a lot of users go and even more new users come, posting videos and making art for the community. I'm hoping that one day I'll become an animator for a production company like Titmouse Studios and if some miracle happens and I get a series greenlit, I'm going to make sure that Newgrounds will be given credit for helping me do so."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Interview with Knights

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Cosmic.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username NuclearWarfare?

Cosmic:

"I do believe that I discovered Newgrounds from playing the Pico Sim Date games in around 2008-2009. I strayed away from clicking the link to find out more about the strange holiday for a year or so, but my curiosity eventually peaked and I ended up here. I started playing many of the fun flash games and watching random flashes, and after a few months I made an account as the user xnccb. Fun fact: I've gone through 5 name changes: PaintSplat,DarkRedWarrior (This was a stupid idea and I changed it an hour after), NuclearWarFare (I got a lot of shit from grammar nazi's for having the F in Fare capitalized), CocoaBeanie (For a contest), and back to NuclearWarfare."

Changed his name to CosmicRainbow and then to Cosmic

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Cosmic:

"Newgrounds hasn't effected me in real life, but I definitely have changed as a user since I signed up almost 3 years ago. I was very gullible with sarcasm, so I probably was thought of as a troll when I would think people were telling the truth. I've gained much maturity and if I didn't have my age up now, I think I can get away with faking my age."

Cosmic:

"I can easily rattle off many names off of the top of my head, but I will say a few. If I don't mention you, please don't think that I hate you ;). One of my favorite animators is SpeedoSausage. He gives me and my friends much joy with his animations and I love them all. Some forum posters I like are Cootie and Travis."

Cosmic:

"I can honestly say that I despise EyeLovePoozy for banning me on my birthday because I made my own thread. He has also banned me for other stuff that isn't breaking the rules, and I hope he gets his moderator abilities taken away ASAP. I also have a grudge on Rucklo. He can be cool, but his terrible MSPaint drawings on the front page annoy me. Everyone else is totally fine by me."

Cosmic:

"I think the forums contain some great, intelligent members with the occasion of some trolls, but overall a great community. I prefer the general forum like most, but I do enjoy a stroll in the art forum to see some amazing art. If I had to choose someone for you to interview next, it would be LiquidFire, if not interviewed in the past."

Cosmic:

"I think most of the mods do their jobs well, but I think some of the mods are great, such as Murray. With the exception of a few, I thank the moderators for keeping the forums orderly and for stopping those who ruin our fun over here in the Newgrounds forums."

Cosmic:

"Even though this won't happen since I am too young, I would enjoy being a forum moderator over a chat moderator, since it seems the chat room has constant problems and I wouldn't have the ability to handle them myself. I'll let the guys in charge handle the moderating themselves for now :)"

Cosmic:

"The redesign looks amazing, and I can't believe its already been a year since that happened. I do wish the background would have more designs from other users since I am already tired of the current ones. The chat needs major improvements, which I think the staff has in store for us someday."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

It seems like you play video games. Would you kindly reveal which recently released game impressed you the most?

Cosmic:

"I've recently started playing Far Cry 3, Hitman Absolution, and Terraria. Far Cry 3 is my personal favorite this year, and I didn't see any problems besides the game lacking camo outfits which would benefit the player majorly. Hitman Absolution is fun and challenging, but there are a few problems such as Agent 47 ducking to cover slowly, as if there aren't gunshots being fired at him. The disguise system is flawed; The people get suspicious of you as if they know everyone they work with. Terraria isn't a new game, but I recently got it after I stopped complaining that it was a 2D minecraft. I was totally wrong and I think it is a very fun game that everyone should try, along with the two games above! Far cry 3 has to be the best out of the bunch, and I personally can NOT wait for GTA V to come out later this spring."

Cosmic:

"I am actually gay. Its just natural with me and I hope that nobody thinks I am strange about it. I also tend to lie so the previous statement isn't true. I do tend to act like a complete retard when nobody is around, though!"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future, Cosmic?

Cosmic:

"I will be starting to learn to make audio so you can look forward to that."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Provoke.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Provoke?

Provoke:

"I found the good olde NG from a close friend of mine back in 09. She brought me on here to watch Salad Fingers (not a big fan as I used to be, but I still enjoy it from time and time again), and then after watching all of the series at the time, I started exploring around the Series And Collections, watching a ton of stuff including Ego City and Retarded Animal Babies. I didn't make a account until the start of 12', and my username was originally TheCrimsonWidow, but after a long computer break, I changed it with the help of Lintire. He thought up the name, I just used it."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You have been a user of Newgrounds since once year. Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Provoke:

"I started out being quite a attention whore, trying to act a idiot just to get attention. Then, after a fellow user told me off, I decided to try to act dry. But after awhile of that, I suddenly started acting like myself: Quick to a pun, yet I don't judge others badly. I hardly changed in my personal life, except maybe gaining a few pounds (I feel fat ;_;)"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Provoke:

"I made a few friends here, including Natick, Emma, Xenomit, Viper, Lintire, and others. I like to say they didn't effect me, but I have to admit some of them were very influential to me in a ton of ways, like Lintire helping me with my name change or Natick being overly hilarious with his gifs and such. I don't know how long they will be here, but I certainly enjoyed my time with them."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Provoke:

"Not very much, I tend to not provoke anyone I don't know unless I have something nice to say. Me and Slint have these edgy wars calling each other edgy in funny or annoying ways, but I wouldn't say I hate him I JUST HATE HOW HE IS MORE EDGY THAN ME GOD DAMMIT"

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Provoke:

"I absolutely love the forums, especially the general forums, since you can find the funniest people there. You can also occasionally get a thoughtful thread where you have to fully read through it and answer the question serious or just shit all over the thread. I also love joke threads and user gossip, I eat that stuff up. Oh, and interview Slint if you haven't already."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Provoke:

"Mods are a touchy subject for me, since I don't know if I speak out I'll ruin my ban-less record. Some of my favourites mods actually do close threads, like Timmy or BFP. I haven't really seen a abusive mod, but I heard stories of BigBadRon and EyeLovePoosy being horrible mods, so I'm glad for being around the good ones."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Provoke:

"I would love to be a moderator, since there are tons of time I see shit threads and other mods aren't online. I would be a type of moderator who will try to do the job right, and still try to have some fun on the BBS instead of turning into a shell of a good person."

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good? What kind of features would you like to see added in the future?

Provoke:

"I hope to see a better chat, since this one sucks the left nut of Adam Sandler. Oh, and I didn't really see much of the old design, so my opinion is basically worthless."

You stated that you are a writer and voice actor. Did you ever consider doing voice acting for some Newgrounds flashes?

Provoke:

"Before I moved out of my parent's, I used my brother's microphone to practice voice acting and play Minecraft with friends. Since I made my account around that time, I thought I could be one of those female voice actors here on NG. However, at this moment I do not have a microphone, but I can assure you I am working on getting one. Just taking things one step at a time."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Provoke:

"I hate to admit it, but I always wanted to be a comedian. I wanted to be a deadpan one too, which I have not seen done well so far, no matter how many people tried. I also have some secrets best kept secret, unless around girlfriends *wink wink*"

Interview with Provoke

Posted by Asandir - January 14th, 2013

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user BrazilianNinja.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username BrazilianNinja?

BrazilianNinja:

"I visited Newgrounds at around 2003 or 2004, a while after I came to America. Before that, I was stumbling on classic Newgrounds content like Johnny Rocketfingers, Alien Hominid, Xiao Xiao No. 3, Pimp's Quest, and Domo-Kun Angry Smashfest on other Flash websites. The fact that such entertaining movies and games were made not by dedicated studios, but by just average users, was probably the reason that made me grow interest in Newgrounds.

I just wanted to be a part of the community which was creating this awesome stuff, but was a bit of a novice with the Internet at the time, so it wasn't until 2005 that I made my first Newgrounds account, though by now it has been removed. It was around that time that I became a casual Portal viewer and learned of other titles like The Matrix Has You, Dad's Home, There She Is, MK Outtakes, Knox Claymations, and the iconic Madness series.

I would've loved to get Flash and take time to learn it, but my parents didn't care for spending money on this kind of thing, and I didn't know how to pirate programs back then, so until now I've mainly been drawing. Thinking back, it was probably for the best, since at the time I would have just flocked the Portal with shitty Madness parodies and badly drawn stick movies. Now that I'm more mature, I suppose, it could be a good time to begin animating as I planned!

I was a much different person when I made my username, but there is really no point in changing it now. I've grown kinda fond of it, even if there aren't any personality-defining contexts in it to consider. I guess I was, and probably still am, just a silly Brazilian kid who thought ninjas were "teh epic winsauce."

BrazilianNinja:

"I think so. In the three years that I took a long hiatus from Newgrounds, I surely began to untangle myself from influences that harmed me, and the drama of other peoples' lives. My character and lifestyle have changed drastically since. Back then, I had difficulties expressing empathy, and used to let insults get the better of me to the point I develop problems socializing even with family. Now I don't take things personally as much, and have grown a bit more confident in who I am and what I can do. I by no means am implying I have completely figured my shit out, but I now recognize that the problems I had in the past were merely superficial problems. Imaginary obstacles set by me."

BrazilianNinja:

"First and foremost, I'll mention my buddy from back in the day, SaltshakerClock, my very first legitimate friend in Newgrounds. Throughout the first few years, SaltshakerClock, Kangman, (who I reckon is long gone by now) and I used to spend afternoons exchanging artwork, spamming other Newgrounders' userpages, and chatting on each others' newsposts until they hit the hundreds mark, for lack of an official chatroom. How did they affect me? I guess they left quite an indelible impression on me. While I couldn't connect with the lying opportunists at school whom I thought were my real-life friends, these two turned out to be the true buddies I spent my derpy Internet youth with.

Upon returning from my absence from Newgrounds, I met some other awesome people. Phobotech, who is a cool, authentic dude and a talented artist I regret not being able to work with here in Newgrounds. E-Lord, another cool, authentic dude who invited me to a fun meet-up in Boston I also regret being unable to attend. Basically, these are the two users I have utterly failed, haha.

And of course, Pwnifyer, Jarvis-Ganon, and Jay, the newest chat moderator. We've been spending a lot of time together recently, and I've realized I have plenty in common with them, be it regarding music, films and shows, or our own personalities and worldly outlooks. I guess you could say we're on that same phase in life in which we're all trying to stick to our own focus. To all these people, I wish only the best.

And last but not least, shout outs to these other chat regulars: StarPaladin, TheRadicalOne, Blauwwolkje92, KillerSkull, TailsPrower, Knightsofthecircle, Rsetienne and a special shout-out to HomicidialFrog for recommending me for an interview. Apologies to any users I forgot to list."

BrazilianNinja:

"Having enemies is too personal, you know? I've never really hated anyone, so the worst feeling I could have for someone is indifference. However, even when you try your best to get along with others and be a people-pleaser, you'll still eventually come across those people you can't stand. I'd rather not mention any names, but some are pretty infamous in the forums and the chat."

BrazilianNinja:

"I don't set foot on the Newgrounds BBS anymore. That, and the rest of Newgrounds are two separate websites in my eyes now. The posters follow the same mediocre gimmicks without realizing it, users are hostile to other users, and the mods are self-centered drama queens which the users glorify into legends. Even above friends leaving Newgrounds, I'd say the current state of the forums was the main reason for me leaving Newgrounds for quite some time. The chat was what brought me back, and I pop around there from time to time.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend interviewing any of the users mentioned on the "users that I like" answer, though I'm not sure if SaltshakerClock still frequents the forums or is even around."

BrazilianNinja:

"Regarding the BBS mods, most are immature narcissists with double standards depending on which user is causing the problem. A prime example would be EyeLovePoozy, who would remove entire threads with potential discussion value, and ban everyone in it without looking over the posts. But unfair or not, if it weren't them, it would just be someone else.

The most active moderator of the chat is GoryBlizzard. Though he gets the job done and is quick to ban any spammers, he tends to believe that forms of chatting like roleplaying and rap battles are bannable offenses, and plays the card that it doesn't stimulate intelligent conversation, when really it's relevant only to him and makes him a bit of an elitist."

BrazilianNinja:

"No thanks, moderating doesn't interest me, and would require too much regular activity. Besides, I'd probably either flake out of banning anyone, or go completely powermad until mutiny is declared against me. I guess if I was forced at gunpoint to become a mod, I'd pick chat mod being as it's the only place I'm somewhat active in. Sorry I can't add more to this answer."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The redesign 2012 has arrived earlier this year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

BrazilianNinja:

"In terms of aesthetics, it's a big improvement. The theme looks much more professional and stylized according to different pages, and I've kinda gotten used to it already. The one thing I miss is the "Everything by everyone" slogan in the logo, and even more from the old salad days, "The problems of the future, today!" However, a few bugs and glitches have turned up when selecting your avatar and icon, and when attaching an image in a forum post. I'm not sure if the redesign is what caused those problems, or if they have been fixed by now, though."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are you looking forward to Christmas? How have you experienced christmas on Newgrounds in the last years?

BrazilianNinja:

"Absolutely, even though Christmas is a grim reminder that my birthday is coming up three days later, while everyone is still recovering from their hangovers and debt! December birthdays suck. But yeah, I've experienced Christmas in Newgrounds, and I especially remember the festive Christmas-themed level icons, which I guess after the update, haven't turned up again, which is odd considering the Halloween-themed icons turn up."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You are a ninja, so tell me who is your favourite ninja of all time?

BrazilianNinja:

"Yoshimitsu from the videogames. Though I dig the one in the Soul Calibur series as well, my favorite would have to be from Tekken. Namely Tekken 3, which was my first ever console game. Good times were had trolling friends with his teleport move and helicopter sword attack. I still main Yoshimitsu to this day."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

BrazilianNinja:

"Haha, not so much of a secret, but more of a fun fact. I go by two names, "Roderick" to Americans, and "Rodrigo" to Brazilians. I've grown used to juggling multiple completely different lives simultaneously, so sometimes it reflects on even the most common things. Like on the phone, I answer with a mishmash of both "hello" and "alo" (Portuguese for "hello" on the phone) so neither Americans nor Brazilians would be excluded."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future, BrazilianNinja?

BrazilianNinja:

"People can change so quickly and suddenly, so how much could one really expect from anyone? Like some dude who smoked a lot of weed said: "The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Interview with BrazilianNinja

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Nor.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username NightOwlRoost?

Nor:

"I've known about Newgrounds for forever it seems like (10 years).....I joined because I had been been using the site for so long I thought I should contribute...or at least post on the BBS or something. I was reluctant to join at first. New users aren't usually treated right, but I did it anyways. I found that I soon liked being a member (Maybe a little too much). I also joined because I haven't really been a part of a community for years. I didn't join when I started using the site, I was only nine at the time...and I was really paranoid when it came to giving personnal info on the web. I thought "I'll do it later" but I never really came around to it because I didn't use Ng that often. Anyways, I chose the user name Nightowlroost because one time some wi-fi connection in my area was named "NightOwl Roost". Since I did not have internet at that time and I used that connection to actually start my account, I named it after that. And besides, it's a pretty unique name."

Namechange to Nor happened some days after this interview was made ^^

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Nor:

"Of course. I think the tough criticism on Ng made me straighten up and act better. When I first joined. I liked Ng, but didn't really care for my account. So I did stupid things, but I regret them. Even though my name and it's reputation is kind of shitty, I'll stand by it. I have also changed in that I've come to realize that I should appreciate my friends more."

Nor:

"I could name a list longer than anyone has time for....but I'll bring it down to a select few, but just because I put a person and forgot another does not mean I don't like them. Klobb17, that guy has been there for me when I had bad days and good days, just like a true friend. Also, tonypar16, KillerSkull, Yenmuffin, GoryBlizzard, StarPaladin , and you."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Nor:

"Probably, but saying here would blow my cover and I don't want that to happen."

Nor:

"I like the forums, all penis jokes aside a lot of people have good insight. I prefer the video game forum, and general. (Although I don't post much in either) If you haven't already, Goryblizzard."

Nor:

"Most of the time yes. I sometimes see fools spamming the BBS and no one is there to stop them, but I realize the mods are busy at times. I think we should have some more active mods not that my opinion would make a difference."

Nor:

"Only a chat mod because I'm on that the most, and there are always spammers to ban there. NOT the others, it looks like it would get too hard."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The redesign 2012 has arrived earlier this year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Nor:

"It's fine, I'm used to it. I think it really makes newgrounds like more unique."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Nor:

"No, I prefer to say as secret as I can, although I will say my middle Initial starts with an A."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future, Nor?

Nor:

"Not much Asandir, I have not been as active as I once was. I could tell you this...I will put up some more drawings and always be posting on the BBS and chatting in NG's chatroom."

Interview with Nor

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user SaltshakerClock.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username SaltshakerClock?

SaltshakerClock:

"I first encountered Newgrounds in early 2007. I used to go on AddictingGames all the time, and would often see the Newgrounds logo on games that were hosted there. In April, I decided to check it out, since i was really into Madness Combat at the time, and has realized that there was quite a bit of Madness stuff here. In particular, I remember watching a flash on the front page about a MC character shooting up a school, and it was around the time of V-tech. In May I started coming here almost everyday after school (at the time I was in 5th grade, imagine that!) and I began to get really interested in the Clock Crew. For the summer of 2007, I was going on Newgrounds all the time, hardly doing anything else. Even though I was underaged (I was 11 at the time) I signed up with the name "SaltshakerClock." I thought that all you had to do to get into the Clock Crew was have a Clock username on Newgrounds. Obviously, I was wrong, but I kept the name. I think I joined because I thought it was really cool how I could make news posts (this was post-redesign, and I was 11, so that sort of thing got me!). Soon after, I was making friends!"

SaltshakerClock:

"Oh definitely. I know for a fact that I've changed as a user, but that Newgrounds has also had a profound effect on my life. I remember when I first joined, I stuck mostly to my own userpage and my friends. As time went on, I started to go on the BBS a bit more. As this happened, I really became more aware of how the Internet functions. My early posts show a starkly different manner of speech, and topic discussion than my present day posts, if that makes any sense! While I used to be a naive little kid trying to get his name out there, now I'm just "that guy" who posts somewhat often. In real life, Newgrounds has changed as I've changed. For well over the past 5 years, Newgrounds has been in my life, from Middle School all the way to High School. Through the severe illness I had to deal with in 2010, Newgrounds has always been there. I also grew a whole foot taller in the time from when I signed up to the present day! Isn't that something?"

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

SaltshakerClock:

"Practically any regular in the Chat is a user I like, and too many on the BBS to list here. I like having friends, pals, allies, what have you. It really makes me feel as if i can bounce my opinions and conversation off as opposed to what could be a sea of unfamiliar faces and names. This is a great thing, but also a bad thing. Users leave all the time, and it's a little sad to see them go. Especially if they were a friend of mine. I've also got a few NGers added on Facebook, adding to the whole "I've got friends, wooo!" sentiment. I've also been introduced to a lot of new music by my NG friends, so that's another way they affect me I suppose. I'd love to go to a meet up someday, but for now I'm just a minor!"

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

SaltshakerClock:

"I don't have any enemies, actually. Every time I've ever been in argument, at least that I can remember, I've always resolved things with that person via PM so there are no hard feelings. There are some users I'm less fond of than others, but I can't remember any of their names. The only one that I think I actually do not like is Insanctuary. That guy bothers me! I wouldn't normally call people out, especially in something as public as in an interview, but that guy has it coming. His psuedo-philosophical bullshit is beyond intolerable. If I could internet-punch anybody, it would be him. Repeatedly. Beyond him, though, nobody comes to mind."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

SaltshakerClock:

"In my opinion, the forums are alright. I used to go on them a lot, but now I mostly stick to the Chat. I feel like the forums have too many people acting gimmicky all the time, which clouds up any chance for real discussion. That's mostly General, which is where I mostly go. However, i do like browsing the Video Games forum from time to time, but that's a little dead. I enjoy C&C despite not actually being in any clubs (I do post in some of them, occasionally, though.) But I think as time goes on, I'll stop going to the forums for greater periods of time. Then, there will be a point where I'm not there anymore, and I will strictly be a Chat dweller. When will that day come? I cannot foresee. Is there any user I'd like to recommend? Nobody comes to mind that you haven't already interviewed! So, sorry guys and gals, I've got no clue which one of you I'd like to be up here!"

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

SaltshakerClock:

"I think the moderators do a pretty good job. I mean, the forums & chat are clean 99% of the time, and run without a hitch. I think they deserve the credit for that. I don't get banned often at all on the forums, so I'm sure that affects how I view the moderators as a whole. I do occasionally talk to a few moderators in the Chat, though. Both chat & BBS mods. They all seem like pretty cool people in general, and I've got no complaints."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

SaltshakerClock:

"I wouldn't like to become a moderator, honestly. It just seems like so much work. Dealing with people breaking the rules, having all this hate towards you (as well as all the brown nosers out there. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE) just seems like it would take away the fun of just hanging out on Newgrounds. If I HAD to choose though, I would pick being a chat moderator. I hang out there most of the time, and I think that is, if anything, the most easy going of all the moderator positions. Dealing with people chatting is a lot easier than dealing with forum posters, because I think the chat has a friendlier atmosphere, come to think of it."

The redesign 2012 has arrived earlier this year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

SaltshakerClock:

"Initially, I HATED the redesign. It really bothered me, and took a while to get used to it. I missed the design of the 2007 era. However, after about a month or so, I grew to love the new redesign. I love the easy access to the forums & chat, and the user icons that we now have had made identifying users so much easier than it used to be, with sigs & levels. However, speaking of levels, I still hate the new levels. I loved the old level icons, but these new ones seem to be trying too hard to be "retro" and just end up looking like completely garbage. In my opinion, that is. I know a few people enjoy them, but it seems to me like the consensus is that they suck."

How did you experience this years Clock Day? Were you satisfied or disappointed by it?

SaltshakerClock:

"I actually forgot about Clock Day this year. A terrible Clock I am, right? As if I'm even considered one; Anyways! Yeah, I don't really know. Since I didn't participate, I can't really say much about it. I can tell you, though, that each year since my first one has been mediocre, and I'm sure people who experience Clock Days before 2007 will tell me that pre-2007 ones were better, but whatever. I'm going by my experiences, damn it!"

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

SaltshakerClock:

"Oh man, I don't know haha. I mean, most of my secrets are posted somewhere within my posts. I don't tend to keep things under wraps on NG. I like it that way though, having most of my life out there for other people to mock, criticize, praise, etc etc. So as far as things NG doesn't know, hmm. I don't think there's anything worth knowing that isn't already out there, so I'll just tell a bland secret. I have never been outside of the country, and the farthest I've been from my state (Massachusetts) is Florida, or Chicago. Whichever is further, distance-wise, from my house. Kind of boring. I'd like to go traveling internationally someday, though!"

What can we expect from you in the future, SaltshakerClock?

SaltshakerClock:

"A lot of things! I'm always working on secret projects, and not so secret projects. While they aren't directly related to Newgrounds and the Newgrounds community, I'll certainly be sharing them with anybody who will be willing to listen, once they are finished. For the time being, though, don't expect much from this user except the usual posts, chats, and whatnot. Eventually though, I'll be showing off some cool things I've made/created/done. Be prepared, Newgrounds! Here I come!"
