Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Clamstuffer.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Clamstuffer?

Clamstuffer:

"I have probably been aware of it for over a decade, but to me it was just another flash game site. Correction: it was a flash game site with "adult content" which was even better because I'm a total pervert.

I would check it out from time to time, usually just when it would come up on a Google search or something. I never had any real inclination to join. I think I just signed up randomly one day to make a single smart-ass comment on a single vid. I forgot about it for a while after that. Anyway, one day I was playing some silly game like "Kitten Cannon" on another website and I Googled highscores and found a thread about it on Newgrounds. Remembering I had Newgrounds account, I posted in this decade old thread and got banned on my first post.

Clamstuffer was just something that started as a stupid joke. I first used it as Clamstuffer5000 on Territory War Online. I had forgot the password to my first account, so I just made that name to see if I could get a laugh from a friend I was playing with online. After that I guess I just shortened it and started using for random things."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Clamstuffer:

"Maybe. Possibly. Not really. Sort of. I used to be slightly more of an asshole on other message boards, but the people are pretty nice here so I have toned it down a little. I haven't really been here all that long enough to change too much."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Clamstuffer:

"I pretty much like all the people that have been posting since the first few pages of the rap battle thread, even though I'm way better than them ;) Other than that... Stereocrisis, Satan, Neonspider I tend to relate to... Guys like Jester and Mandeep make me laugh sometimes... I'm probably forgetting some people... They affect me because I try really hard to impress them so they think I am cool! LOL, not really. I'm actually super lazy with what I post on this board compared to what I used to do on other message boards. Case in point: http://www.forumwarz.com/discussions/view/29921"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Clamstuffer:

"Maybe a couple. I'm not going to mention names, because I don't want to give them recognition for that. They know who they are. If I think somebody is a douche I have no problem telling them because I'm clearly an online badass."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Clamstuffer:

"They're... sufficient I guess. I'm starting to like them more over time. Most forums kind of suck when you are new at least, and I haven't been here that long. I mostly just post in general unless I want to bitch about a certain game. I may check out the writing and audio stuff one day. I can't think of anyone that I really want to see interviewed, but like I said I haven't really been here all that long..."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Clamstuffer:

"I honestly think they're among the best moderators I have seen anywhere. A lot of other sites the moderators either don't really do anything, or they prioritize the wrong things, or worst of all, they just end up being a bunch of power-abusing assholes who ban people for stupid reasons unless you kiss their ass.

I like how they lock duplicate threads and usually have good reasons for the other threads they lock; most other forums I have seen are terrible when it comes to knowing when to use that function."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Clamstuffer:

"I don't really have any interest in that. Sounds like work without money if you ask me."

You were one of the kids that made a Lego song. Tell more about this story.

Clamstuffer:

"There's not a lot more to tell if you already read that story. It was right around 1990 maybe. My dad has always been kind of an amateur guitarist/songwriter and one day he just made up this song with the help of my little brother and I. It was maybe a couple years later we recorded it and we mailed it off to Lego with this crazy letter not really expecting anything. We told them they could have it for, "One of every Lego set ever made OR a million dollars OR 1000 lego buckets" stuff like that because we were kids and my dad just kind of wrote it out.

It was a long while before Lego responded. I think we kind of gave up on it by then and were pretty surprised. They said they wanted the rights to the song (even though I don't think they ever planned on really using it) and they said the three of us could each pick any one thing out of the catalog. Of course my dad didn't really care, so that left me and my brother to pick any three sets. I think we basically just went the three biggest and most expensive things: two electric train sets and the biggest Technic set which came with two electric motors and a controller. They published the song lyrics in a little article in their Lego magazine, changing any occurrence of the word "Legos" to "Lego sets" which made it sound really weird.

I think they just wanted to fill space in their magazine and encourage other people to submit stuff like that. I remember they started having actual contests in their magazine after that where you could win any Lego set from their catalog, but they limited it to $100 and under. We kind of laughed about that, like we were the reason they added the $100 stipulation because they didn't put a limit on ours so we got the most expensive things we could (the Technic set alone was over $200, which would probably be closer to $400 today)."

Many of your posts are dedicated to the Epic Rap Battles Of Ng Bbs History thread. When did you start writing rap lyrics? Which users of those thread make the best lyrics in your opinion?

Clamstuffer:

"I first started when they had this contest on the message board for Forumwarz. (If you click the audio submission on my profile I talk more about it there.) I never really did it before that. Of course everybody knows I have the best lyrics ;) but I guess if I had to pick someone besides myself... Kwing is probably the most consistently decent person on there. He's never beat me though. Phobotech beat me ONE time, so maybe him. Also honorable mention to CiviLies; I only remember him ever posting once but it was really good."

You watch the tv series The Walking Dead. Tell my readers what you like about this show.

Clamstuffer:

"I mean it's like the most popular show on cable isn't it? There's that. But I also been into the Zombie thing ever since the first Resident Evil games on PS1. Rented just about every obscure Zombie flick they had in stock at the video store (back when there were still video stores). The genre really blew up in the coming years though... did you know more than half of the zombie films ever made were made after September, 11 2001? It's an allegory, man: Zombies and terrorism, just like Godzilla and the atomic bomb."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Clamstuffer:

"I ran track in elementary school and won a gold medal even though I was a terrible athlete. At the county track meet somehow none of the other boys in my age group signed up for the 200 meter dash (50, 100, & 400 were all more popular I guess). I ran by myself in front of a stadium of people and won first place by default. That qualified me to run at the state meet where I came in dead last."

What can we expect from you in the future, Clamstuffer?

Clamstuffer:

"Probably not much of anything in the immediate future. I'm trying to work and go to college full time right now so it doesn't leave to much room for anything. Too bad I didn't join this site a few years ago when I was actually into making shit. Now I'm just kind of burnt out. You never know though, maybe I just need that one piece of inspiration that could strike at any time..."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Pkmn2.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds?

Pkmn2:

"It all began with a CD in 2004-ish. The true origin of this CD went unknown, but one thing is for sure. This CD contained games and cartoons. The amount was so overwhelming, it kept me busy for a long time. The genre and quality of those “games” varied from each other. I kept on playing this collection and dug deeper until I found a cartoon called “Yoshi’s Island – Razoric.exe”. Ah, from this moment on something has changed inside me.

It robbed my childhood innocence, but gave me something in return.

Sprite movies and flash flicks.

Razoric.com was the first time I became aware of flash animations and jesus…

The site was full of animation with gore and sick humor. It makes you wonder why I haven’t gone mentally insane yet. Anyway after a strong decline of new animations I started to check the site’s affiliates and two caught my eyes the most, which was a Mario humping the air VGDC and an orange one that had a tank displayed (Newgrounds).

I have first entered Newgrounds in 2005 and thought nothing much about it since I couldn’t find any sprite animations at first. I actually spent more time on VGDC watching all those sprite animations over and over again and it led me to many other great (sprite) artists. But this is another story…"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Why did you join?

Pkmn2:

"Razoric and Video Games Director’s Cut are slowly fading away as they were no new animations coming from them. So I started to spend more time on my third choice.

I have noticed that it was presenting so many animations daily, it made me realize that this website is no way managed by a single person. That’s when I took notice of the forums. I didn’t know that SO many people were sharing the same interest(s) as me.

Since I was learning how to use Macromedia Flash 8 Pro, I wanted to ask these people for help. That didn’t work without a Newgrounds Gold Account.

I registered and so a new Newgrounds member was born in 2007."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Why did you choose the username Pkmn2?

Pkmn2:

" Huh, how DID I get my username?

People tend to assume that it’s the short form of “Pokémon”.

Back then I was only interested in the first generation of Pokémon games though.

So my other theory would be that I was playing “Super Smash Brothers: Melee” and I used to play Ness a lot. The fact that he kept spouting “PK-THUNDER!”, “PK-FLASH!”, “PK-THIS!”, “PK-THAT!” is perhaps one of the reasons I ended up calling him “PK-Man”.

I thought that would be a cool name to use, but why I ended up using this one is beyond me."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Pkmn2:

"I can truly say that I have completely changed over the past years, but isn’t it natural for a person to change?

When I first started here on Newgrounds, I couldn’t communicate properly with others due to the lack of proper English. Because of this I mostly spouted nonsense or I was very enraged by the slightest disagreement, even though the members gave me a proper and reasonable response.

And now look at me! I still spout nonsense, but at least my English has improved, right?

Hahaha!

…right?

…Let’s move on."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Pkmn2:

"Yes, I do. Spending time on Newgrounds gives people the opportunity to meet potential artists and so it’s only natural, that you will find yourself following those content creators.

Unfortunately most of my favorite artists are either not active anymore or they simply changed. But my ever-growing list still has a few mention-worthy artists. Some of them are well-known and others just made a single animation. But even with one animation you can surprise someone.

Please take a peek at my favorite user’s list, but be careful though. There are a few animators inside, that make A-rated content."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Pkmn2:

"I can say for sure that I do not despise any of the users here. I am a very open-minded person and normally avoid conflict. I did had a confrontation with @Alvin-Earthworm once.

It was not anything personal, but it did make me a bit angry. It was during the time when he was still working on his series “Super Mario Brothers Z” and nobody knew that his most recent entry will be his last one (for now).

Episode 8 contained a running animation that was certainly made by me and I wasn’t aware of it.

I know it is just a mere 7-8 frames but to think that someone I really admire takes something that I’ve worked on, is really surprising.

I approached him and talked with him about the matter. Case closed. No harm done.

I wish he would mention me in the credits though.

Yeah, in short. I like Newgrounds and its wicked community."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Pkmn2:

"The Newgrounds forums. I wish I was more active in that edge.

It is a really nice place to chat, discuss and rant. The vast amount of topics to talk about never seem to stop. There are topics that can be really bizarre or pointless, but people still respond and leave their opinion as if it was the most natural thing on Earth. These are the kind that kept me coming back to this website.

Many users are also very good at troubleshooting, providing support on subjects such as programming or the website itself. I wouldn’t make silly animation now, if Newgrounds didn’t guide me back then.

So I owe the community a lot.

My most favorite subforum would be the youngest addition to the Newgrounds forums, which is the “Collaboration” subforum.

Artists from various ends are coming together and create something as a team. I find it also a really cool place to meet other fellow artists.

Hmmm… Out of all the users here, who should I pick for an interview?

My first pick would be my partner and good buddy @Ran-Cossack.

If he finds out, that I’m yet again slacking off, then I might lose a leg or two. Hahaha.

Otherwise I would take @Kel-chan, because she makes gorgeous Japanese-ish animations and illustrations and I’m really interested in her backstory."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Pkmn2:

"I can feel their presence, to say the least. Since I’m a good user and want no problem, I’ve never confronted the mods. But I still appreciate their effort on keeping the BBS clean.

I don’t know about the current situation, but hasn’t it become easier to moderate the BBS compared to the previous years?"

The last redesign happened 2012. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Pkmn2:

"I H8T CHANGE!

Nah, just joking. I was very surprised at the release of the new design. I didn’t exactly had the ability to check the internet when it happened. I actually like the current layout a lot more. Visitors and users had a better view on all the things of what Newgrounds has to offer.

However I liked the 07’s design more. It had such a simplistic charm to it. The vector-ised town background on the logo was so nice to look at. That simple design made Newgrounds stood out from others.

I would want to see a mix of the current one and the old one.

I’ve heard that a new redesign is coming, which ditches the orange color scheme.

…Please don’t let it happen. It is bad enough that Nintendo has changed their color logo from red to grey."

You took part in some Newgrounds award winning collaborations, the most recent one being the Christmas Collab 2013. Do you in general prefer to work on creative content in groups? Do you plan to be part of more collabs in the future?

Pkmn2:

"Since I like the “Collaboration” forum so much, I mostly prefer to work with others. Working in a group makes creating content much more easier and fun. It’s also the perfect opportunity to share experience between members.

But like any other artist, I always tend to be selfish and want things done my way.

It’s also a great responsibility to supervise the whole affair.

Team work has its pro’s and con’s, but I can say, that working in a group is much better than being an one-man army."

Back in 2013, you released a voice demo to the Audio Portal. Is becoming a voice actor something that you would like to do as career option? Which Newgrounds voice actors do you like the most?

Pkmn2:

"Not many people know this, but I used to be a singer when I was young. I wasn’t anything spectacular though. I had a few performances at birthday parties and contests, but even then I thought I was pretty below average.

Years later I’ve started to gain interest in putting my voice in a few of my animations. I have zero acting skills and it’s really showing. I mean, just look at my attempt in Parallel Memories Episode 1-1. It’s worse than Tommy Wiseau’s acting in “The Room” and that’s quite the accomplishment. Hahahaha.

I hope I get better with voice acting though, but I wouldn’t consider VA as my next step for now.

There are a bunch of voice actors and actresses in Newgrounds and picking one of them is quite the hassle. So I’ll pick one that isn’t as popular.

@Mila-Chan is a great voice actress with a lot potential. Her performance in the “DeDeDe’s Minions” series is very good and it’s unfortunate that she hasn’t gotten more requests by now.

Maybe I’ll do that someday. Hahaha."

In that year you also had a vacation in the USA. Which states did you visit? What impressed you the most and do you want to re-visit the USA in the future?

Pkmn2:

"Oh, I spent most of the time in California and went to Vegas for a short time.

I basically did everything what I normally would do in a vacation. Visit places, eat local food and have fun. I’m a huge fan of arcades and I had the luck to visit multiple of them.

The highlight of my vacation would be my spontaneous and absolutely not-planned visit at EVO.

For those who don’t know, the Evolution Championship Series (EVO for short) is the largest fighting game tournament in the world.

I didn’t do a single research on WHERE it was actually held. Heck, the WHEN was a mystery for me as well. I saw the news on the internet and I was surprised that EVO was held on the same time where my parents and I would go to Las Vegas.

As soon as I have entered the place, I was amazed. I’ve never seen so much hype in one spot. The matches were highly intense and there was not a single moment, where the crowd wouldn’t go nuts.

EVO is also the reason, why I got into Skullgirls. And speaking of Skullgirls…"

One of the games that you broadcast on your Twitch account is Skullgirls. Tell my readers what makes Skullgirls a great fighting game and which characters and playstyles you prefer.

Pkmn2:

"Skullgirls is an independently developed 2D fighting game by Reverge Labs. The people behind this game are working hard in making this game as enjoyable, but also tournament-worthy as possible.

I like Skullgirls because of three reasons. The first would be that I can finally play a fighting game on PC with decent online capabilities. Thanks to GGPO’s netcode it made fighting games in an online environment much more enjoyable and playable.

The second would be that I don’t own a console that has Marvel VS Capcom 3 and Skullgirls is a nice replacement.

And my last reason would be that I have seen the game in EVO and it was hell a lot of fun to play. It is so good that I have bought the exclusive EVO-themed Skullgirls T-Shirt. It’s a nice souvenir that keeps me reminding of the cool times at EVO and in America overall.

I can play all characters in the game, but I mostly prefer Peacock. She has a lot of projectiles in her arsenal, but she is also quite capable on point. I do think she’s quite lame due to her bullet-hell-esque nature, but I never resort to such tactics. "

Parallel Memories is your own sprite animation series, starring Marichu. Tell me about the background story of the Parallel Memories universe and what we can expect to see in the future from this project.

Pkmn2:

"Parallel Memories is about a boy who is a victim of a failed experiment. The intention of the experiment is to gain the ability to jump into digital media and allow humans to fully interactive with the characters and surroundings within said media.

Unfortunately the project backfired so catastrophically that it fired the boy’s DNA and other information into the cosmos.

Finding himself in a completely different universe full of surprises and absurdity, the amnesiac boy who has given himself the name “Marichu” has no other choice, but to go into an adventure in getting more information about his origin.

There’s only a half of an episode out there, but I’m certain that I’ll continue on working on this big project. The hardest task in making a series is to keep working on it. @Ran-Cossack keeps telling me on working on the project, but I’m as stubborn as it can get.

Please understand. I guarantee hard work and commitment in each and every single animation I make and good things just need their time.

But as for now, enjoy the current (and only) episode of Parallel Memories."

You are from Austria. What are you thoughts on your country winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2014? If you could decide, which singer/band would represent your country next year, when Austria will be the official host of the Eurovision Song Contest?

Pkmn2:

"I can hardly talk about the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 since I have never really paid attention to it in the first place. But I can say that I was surprised when I read in the newspapers that the sausage won the contest. I went ahead and checked the song he sang in the contest. I have no idea what kind of songs the other contestants performed so it is hard for me to say that Wurst’s song is the best.

I think that Eurovision is all more about the bizarre acts and not the song themselves, but that is my point of view.

So in order to reflect the weirdness of this event, I would take Otto Waalkes as a representative for Austria. There’s no better choice for this crazy song contest than a crazy guy with great humor. And yes, I know that he’s from Germany…"

I think that you like Pokémon. What are your thoughts on Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire getting remakes for the Nintendo 3DS?

Pkmn2:

"I would not consider myself a huge Pokémon fan, because I’ve only played the first generation of Pokémon.

I spent most time playing “Pokémon: Yellow Edition” for Nintendo GameBoy.

Oh, that would be the reason for the creation of this Marichu character of mine. Sheesh, a youngster sure didn’t have a lot imagination back then.

Anyway it is only recently that I have bought “Pokémon: White Edition” for Nintendo DS.

So it took me 12 years to buy a new edition.

My verdict on that game? Jesus, Pokémon sure has changed and it is still fun to play even after 12 years. I sure did take my time.

The remake of Ruby and Sapphire edition would be a totally new game for me and it looks interesting too. I have no plans on getting it though."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Pkmn2:

"Secrets, huh?

The pronunciation of my username is [pɪkmɛnˌtʊ]  as in “pick·men·two”

So, yeah. It bugs me a bit if people call me Pokemon-2, but I don’t really blame them.

I made several sprite comics when I was young, but I lost all of them due to a hard drive issue.

What’s else there to say about me?

I have no fixed plans in life, my hair color is black, I have a younger sister that wonders why the heck I am sitting in front of the PC the whole day, my love story is a mess, I hate anime, that relies heavily on power levels, I consider social networks a tumor on the internet and yet I have an account in Facebook and Twitter,…

Sheesh, my real life can’t get any more boring, can it?

Oh wait. I have a friend that keeps making me feel like crap and I still hang out with him. Huh, friendship is sure weird sometimes.

So, really. I’m a very honest person and my secrets are nothing spectacular.

Oh and @TomFulp / @WadeFulp, I’m hotlinking all of my animations, which are uploaded here on Newgrounds, to my website.

Please don’t kill me…

I’ll try to get my own host, but I currently lack the financial resources for it."

What can we expect from you in the future, Pkmn2?

Pkmn2:

"You can expect my presence on Newgrounds. In the forums, in the chat, as a comment. Newgrounds has become a part of my life and it would make a thousand lolis and me very sad if it should ever disappear in this vast cyber universe.

You will hopefully see new episodes of Parallel Memories and most importantly (sprite) animations from my side.

Only time can tell what I will do in the future, but that's the plan for now.

I want to thank my beloved supporters, fans, friends and family for giving me courage in making silly animations for the internet.

My biggest thanks goes to the readers for taking their time reading this lengthy piece.

Asandir, it was an honor to be interviewed by you and I hope I have satisfied your audience."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user exudaz.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username exudaz?

exudaz:

"Well, I created my first account here in early 2010. I was a lot younger, and curious about flash. So I made an account named after my old Runescape account (Dragoswrath) and tried to make a movie.
And it was absolutely horrible... It looked choppy and terrible and I deleted it soon after.
Once I discovered I was horrible at flash, I decided to start lurking and posting on the NGBBS.

I later deleted that account and started a new one (I wanted a fresh start) that I called exudaz. I actually have no idea why I picked that name, I think it sort of just came to me. Either that or I just used one of those name generators online."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

exudaz:

"Oh, definitely! Seeing that I started on the forum when I was ten, and I'm now just shy of fifteen. I've matured a lot and my mind has changed a substantial amount since then.

NG has also influenced my development in the real world. I think having so many discussions with people on bbs has made me a better communicator."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

exudaz:

"I like most of the users on the BBS.
CresIsis, Piggler, Phobotech, Wegra, and mysteriouslila to name a few."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

exudaz:

"I'd say that Vnzi and I have a bit of a hate going on between eachother (we've been arguing a lot recently), but I don't really dislike her."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

exudaz:

"I think the forums (General more so than others) are a great place to start a conversation and be exposed to new ideas form people around the world."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

exudaz:

"I think the moderators do their job well, and I need to give them props for doing their job for free."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

exudaz:

"Oh god no! Too much responsibility."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The last redesign happened 2012. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

exudaz:

"I don't think it's bad, but I do think it's a bit blocky and clunky looking. Personally, I don't see why the site needed to redesign. It looks nice, but it just doesn't top the 2007 version in my opinion."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

exudaz:

"I have a huge thing for fat girls, I guess you could call it a fat fetish.
That's about my biggest secret."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Ed Edd 'n Eddy is one of your favourite tv shows. What made this show special to you? Which other shows of the past do you like?

exudaz:

"Ed Edd 'n Eddy was always the sort of show I could come home to and have a laugh at. It's just good humor, and it's a part of my childhood. I also loved Courage the Cowardly dog, Johnny Bravo, and Dexter's Laboratory."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Mother 3 is one of your most favourite RPG's of all time. As someone who never played it, what is Mother 3 all about? Which aspects of this game do you like the most?

exudaz:

"Mother three is about several protagonists who travel through a quirky future world and save it from Porky, an evil time traveler. I like everything about Mother 3. It's just an amazing title that I think everyone should play. It's also the first game that made me cry.

But my favorite overall aspect is the combat system. It's something only found in the mother games that's really unique and well-crafted."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You are a big fan of indie games. Which ones are your most favourites? Are you looking forward to the release of The Binding of Isaac:Rebirth?

exudaz:

"If I had to pick a favorite, I'd have to say "Barkley, shut up and jam gaiden". I really can't describe that game in words, you really just need to look it up.

And yes, I'm very much looking forward to Rebirth."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Pokémon is one of your favourite game franchises. Aside from the main games, you also play Pokémon hacks like Flora Sky. Which ones would you recommend to others and what do they better than the original titles?

exudaz:

"There's Flora Sky, Shiny Gold, Light Platinum, and Pokemon Ash Gray. They're all outstanding, and I recommend all of them for any Pokémon fans out there.

I feel that they have better overall challenge than the originals. The originals were made for kids to be able to play and beat. While the hacks are harder and require more strategy."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future, exudaz?

exudaz:

"More BBS topics and posts.
Seeing that I don't have much talent in the artistic realms, it's the only place I can really contribute to on this site."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user ChazDude.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username ChazDude?

ChazDude:

"I actually first came to this site as early as mid-2010, before this redesign thingy, so I've actually been lurking around here for a while now (I didn't bother making an account until recently), I didn't start coming on here regularly until early 2011, when I (re)discovered the Madness Combat series (I have vague memories of my brother showing them to me back in '07 or '08 or something like that). As for the name, probably because it contains my real name (Cha(zDude)rlie), for some reason I liked the name and I just HAD to stick with it (I also considered 'FishPiss' but when I told my brother he started using it as an insult, so 'ChazDude' it was :]"

ChazDude:

"I think I've changed in quite a way, one year ago I had only made 2 comics which weren't even called 'Dave & Carl' yet, in less than a year of being an actual NG user I've released around 140 comics, got 75 fans in just 11 months, and given a supporter upgrade by one of the staff. As for real life, not much in any significant way but soon I should have more time to work on stuff (I have a maths exam in June, if I get a 'C' or higher I'll never have to do any of that crap again :])"

ChazDude:

"There are quite a few users that I enjoy talking to, joking with, and getting feedback from; deckheadtottie and Gagsy are probably my two favorites, there are just too many to count :]"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

ChazDude:

"There are the odd spammers that I can live without (people like Wriggle, SithCorduroy and perhaps also PotHeadParadise (he makes way too many shit threads).

Apart from spammers, I can safely say that Amaranthus is one of the worst users on the entire site, he pointlessly attacks me everywhere, in chat, by PM, on my blog, even in someone else's blog, he is pretty much one of those worthless internet trolls, I wouldn't even mind if he got deleted (rant over)."

ChazDude:

"I think General is pretty much the only forum that I go to, I don't really see much else to do in the others. as for other users to be interviewed, I think Gagsy is certainly worth interviewing :3."

ChazDude:

"I think they do a pretty decent job, although they seem to be pretty lax when it comes to people being insulted for their medical condition (autism, in particular), I also think trolling should be moved into 'Things that WILL get you banned'."

ChazDude:

"I'd love to be a mod someday, I'd probably be a forum/chat mod although I could possibly be an art mod as well."

ChazDude:

"I like it, it certainly gives NG a modern feel, my main complaint is that they got rid of userpage banners (I still remember those)."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You are the creator of the comic series Dave & Carl. When did you first get the idea of making comics? Which web comics do you like the most?

ChazDude:

"Back in 2011/12 I was making (extremely) crappy 3-panel comics based on the Worms series of video games (those comics are so shit I'm extremely unlikely to show any of them), sometime in late 2012/early 2013 I thought "Fuck it, I need my own characters" and so, after some time of getting the concept right, on the evening of March 6, 2013 I drew the first issue of what would (in a few months time) become to be known as 'Dave & Carl'

As for favorite webcomics, Cyanide & Happiness and Deathbuldge are my two favorites. To be honest, who doesn't like C&H?"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Aside from Newgrounds, you also have a Deviantart account. If you had to compare both sites as art showcasing platforms, what are things that you prefer and like less on Deviantart compared to the art portal?

ChazDude:

"I'd say I'm more attached to NG than dA, on NG you can actually rate things, on dA you can leave a comment but no score (unless you type it, of course). Also on NG, it's easier to report stolen art than on dA (I think the only reason I got a dA account was to get a wider audience)."

Seems like you are a LEGO fan. What was the first LEGO set that you got? Did you ever visit LEGOLAND, and if not, do you plan to do so in the future? Also, what did you think about the recently released LEGO movie?

ChazDude:

"I think the first set I got (with me present) was this Ambulance that I got at Legoland back in '06 (it's so important to me that it's one of the few old models that I haven't dismantled), and yes, I have gone to Legoland almost every year (miniland alone is worth the visit). As for the Lego Movie, I thought it was pretty good, there's a butt-load of references and in-jokes in there that would amuse any Lego fan of any age :3."

You have 3 cats. Tell my readers their names and when you got them. How important are pets in general to you? Also tell my readers why they should get cats as pets.

ChazDude:

"They're called 'Spotty' 'Dotty' and 'Smudge' (all except Smudge are female and Spotty is the mother of Smudge, there were actually 4 kittens but we only kept Smudge :[). We got them from a family that we knew at the time (way back in 2006, might I add), To be honest I'm not really a pet person, if I was I'd probably be a cat person (I'm not too fond of dogs), I'm not sure what to tell users here about getting a cat :/."

ChazDude:

"A lot more D&C comics, that's for sure, I've also just released a physical comic book (which is currently only available from this shop in London, I do plan to do a digital version of that eventually. Hopefully one day (once I've found an animator and ideas) there will also be an animated version of Dave & Carl. I haven't really thought of doing anything outside of D&C, they're like my children :] (hopefully I'll never become one of those sellouts)."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Captain-Slugworth.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username FistofGreedo and why did you change it to Captain-Slugworth?

Captain-Slugworth:

"Ah, now! I'm sure quite a few of the users would most likely relate to how I found Newgrounds.. yup! That's right, I believe I was around 9-10 when I found the site trawling through the large amount of flash sites advertising free cursors and linking to various malware related shite. I found Newgrounds through a site called 'Heavy Games', I saw the Tankman logo and I was hooked! It wasn't until 2012 I decided to make an account, that was when I was about 15 I believe.

FistofGreedo was one of my chosen usernames I used for a variety of accounts I barely use today, I actually have no clue why I actually chose the username, I think it was mainly because I was quite the fan of Star Wars at the time and I became very fond of the character Greedo. The reason why I chose Captain-Slugworth is because I decided it was time for a change, time for a fresh start without loosing my stats and such."

Captain-Slugworth:

"Ooh! yes, yes. I think I've changed rather alot, being as I wasn't much of a poster on the BBS (mainly a lurker) and if I did post, I would definitely regret looking back at it in future, ha!
I've changed an awful lot on here, well post wise anyway. NG has also changed me in real life, for example I've become more outgoing and social which helped a bunch, as I had real bad social skills."

Captain-Slugworth:

"Ohh yes, there are some great users I've become good friends with, in fact I don't know who I'd be without them!
Splats and darkjam where my first main friends, they're some real awesome guys. I always love catching up with darkjam about video games and music, we usually play TF2 or just discuss various different topics but yeah he's a top fella. Splats actually helped me out just recently with advice on asking a girl out I've been attempting to ask out for quite some time. Turns out we actually got together which was brilliant! So yes! Splats is a real bro don't know what I'd do without him."

Captain-Slugworth:

"Not that I know of, no. I've never really had any enemies online nor do I dislike anybody on here."

Captain-Slugworth:

"Can't beat the general forum, I don't know where I'd be if it weren't for the BBS."

Captain-Slugworth:

"Oh yes definitely, there are some real great mods out there which do all sorts of different jobs, I personally like NekoMika and ZJ. I'm not so much of a fan of Poozy though."

Captain-Slugworth:

"Oh dear god no, I don't know what I'd do with so much power."

Captain-Slugworth:

"I rather like the redesign, I like how it's easier to access certain tabs and such like the movies and social tabs, it's pretty easy to access the under judgement content. It doesn't beat the older '07 redesign which was more basic and less glossy also the Tankman logo was much bolder than the one we have today."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

It seems that you like to play retro games. What was the first game that you played? Which retro games do you still play regularly?

Captain-Slugworth:

"Ah yes! I've been hooked on retro games for quite some time now, it was when I was about 8 years old, my father introduced me to his Atari 2600 with the titles (Smurf, Mouse Trap, Street Racer, Dig Dug, and Blueprint), he also introduced me to his Nintendo Game & Watch Donkey Kong, speaking of which I found just recently during my spring cleaning.

I've been playing/trying to beat pilotwings with my Father for the SNES just recently. As for retro games I play regularly, I usually play rather alot of DOS, SNES, ZX Spectrum and NES games such as DOOM (mainly play with the brutal DOOM mod and various different .wads), Earthworm Jim, Street Fighter II Turbo, The Settlers, Jet Set Willie, Manic Miner, Skool Daze, the list goes on!"

Lord Frodo VII is one of your cats. When did you get him and your other cats? Share one funny experience that you had with your cats.

Captain-Slugworth:

"Oh yes! Frodo was my first ever cat, so he was rather special to me which probably explains why he was one of my favourites out of the 4 cats I own. The jammy sod brought down the christmas tree about 2-3 days before christmas since he thought the tree would hold his porky weight.. he thought wrong, the tree came down and .... well collapsed."

yurgenburgen sent you some of his awesome art last year. What exactly did you get from him?

Captain-Slugworth:

"Very awesome it is indeed! I got this real neat sketchbook filled with his previous work he did back in 2010, the sketchbook was filled with bizarre and intriguing art pieces! I also got a couple of Zyklon B prints aswell as the sketchbook which are currently hanging on my wall."

Captain-Slugworth:

"Ohh secrets, welly, welly well.
I do have a couple of things only a few NGers know about but they aren't really secrets but not many people know about them:

-I'm a frequent coffee drinker, Can't get get enough of the stuff
-I'm also a smoker"

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Troisnyx.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username TroisNyxEtienne and why did you change it to Troisnyx?

Troisnyx:

"I found Newgrounds in, if I remember correctly, 2009, when I was directed by a member of the Kingdom Hearts Wiki, ForbiddenMemory, to one of his songs that he uploaded here. (I doubt the song is still there — I recently did a search of it, but to no avail.) I then diverted my attentions to TheWeebl's animations, which this friend also linked me to, and that was what I did when I first found NG. I lurked, but never signed up.

I first signed up for NG in 2011 when Sorohanro invited me over. I joined a video game music competition on a site called Audiodraft — it's one of those sites where you make music for companies, and if your piece gets picked, you get paid for it. I submitted the earlier version of Westminster Tune ~ Preuve de foi, and won. This drew Sorohanro's attention, he invited me over to NG, and I signed up finally.

Now, on to the username. There's a bit of a long story behind it, but I'll explain it.

Trois is the French word for 'three,' and is intended to be my reference to the Christian concept of  God as Holy TrinityNyx is the name of the Greek goddess of night, and I took it to signify darkness — the darkness in our hearts, for instance. Etienne is the closest proper name I got if I reversed my own first name.

I coined the username TroisNyxEtienne in 2004 as a replacement to a previous username I had (TrinityKHS), which never made it online. I wanted the 'Trinity' bit to subsist somewhere, and it survived as TroisNyxEtienne. In later years I took the 'Etienne' off my username because I thought that if anyone tried to figure out the reasoning behind it, they'd guess my actual name. And also, I still think ‘Troisnyx’ is good enough a juxtaposition between light and darkness. Easier to spell, easier to learn to pronounce, none of this Troissjnriwufgnfsgvh stuff."

Troisnyx:

"Aye. As a user and as a person, I've become a little (but just a little) less high-strung. That's one thing I still need work on. This being high-strung shows a lot when we are teenagers (or very young adults), but mellows as we grow older, and hopefully, wiser.

That being said, I still wouldn't want to change the things I ordinarily do — speak honestly, review honestly, be excited, dream big, keep giving and forgiving. I hope to continue doing these things."

Troisnyx:

"There are loads, to be honest! — and many of them are audio artists. I can't list all the names I can think of; there would just be too many. But let me at least put in a few names:

NekoMika has reviewed a few of my songs in the past and I've seen his posts here and there in the forums. Awesome reviewer; his membership in the Review Request Club made me investigate it, and learn how to give constructive reviews.

Then there are SkyeWinterest, Nimble and Samulis, and together, we form Versilian Studios, a collaborative music project. The three of have given me good mixing advice, and we've been having good banter between ourselves. It's fun. SkyeWinterest in particular has been one of the judges for the Newgrounds Audio Deathmatch 2012, and his advice really helped me. If judges noticed that I improved by leaps and bounds during that time, that was the reason why.

PotentApogee and AlbertStClare are the reviewer friends I'm closest to. The former, I believe I met first on YouTube... the latter was from Kingdom Hearts Wiki at first. Potent is one who always wants to see the good in someone's work, and brings it out. AlbertStClare gives a balance of both. I've known AlbertStClare for longer (in fact, since 2009), and he's very learned, he often goes deep in thought, and he's a skilled writer. I feel the Writing Portal should come soon, and that his work ought to feature there.

The friends I can have a girly get-together with, at the moment, are HalcyonicFalconX and headphoamz. I'm closer to HFX because I have known her for longer, and we shared a lot of things with each other over Skype conversations — our lives, our past, our aspirations as musicians...

Many of the people I mentioned above gave me specific pointers on how to improve on the production side of my work. There are a few others who did this, particularly Step and Buoy

There are many other friends whom I have on here (you know who you are!) — I'm looking at my friends list on NG and it is very long. Just saying."

Troisnyx:

"The forums are nice, though they're like any other bulletin board: I feel the General board is often subject to Godwin's law (about mentioning Hitler or Nazism or anything along those lines....). There are some solid threads there, and then there are threads where we wonder why the original posters even bothered starting them.

I do hang about in the General, Gaming, Art and Audio boards. I once tried the Writing board but it somehow fell apart; I felt I wasn't ready to continue. My current favourite, of all the boards I'm on, is the Audio section: I'm at home with other musicians there, and that's largely where I truly get to give of my musical ability.

I don’t know if I have a user in particular for you to interview… I have a few names whose responses will be interesting to see, namely Bspendlove, deadlyfishes, and RealFaction."

Troisnyx:

"They do their best. My thoughts are that they have lives, like all of us. I used to be rather iffy about moderators in the past, but I've come to look past that. I frequently call upon mods in the Audio Cleanup thread, or sometimes to close stale threads. Sometimes these threads fall behind and don’t get much attention until several replies later, but sometimes there is very prompt action. They do what they can.

In hindsight, I don't remember having any major tussles with any mods — they've been quite friendly with me thus far. The ones whom I often call for help are Back-From-Purgatory and BrokenDeck (more so the former)."

Troisnyx:

"Do I like it? Yes and no. I found the redesign difficult at first because of the many bugs associated with uploading, editing, renaming and deleting audio. It was a struggle to get used to. Most of these bugs have since been fixed, but there's still something missing from the equation for me: for audio artists, there used to be a page where all your submissions were put in a list. On that list you could see the number of listens, downloads, reviews and favourites your pieces had. I would love to see the return of that page, if ever possible, on this site.

Aesthetically, this site looks more rugged and industrial than it did previously. I don't think I have a problem with that. I just think it a bit boxy sometimes. With regards to user page customisation, there used to be a feature on the previous design where we could put in our own banner on top of our page: I don’t miss that one all that much. It is sad that all the secrets from the previous redesign have disappeared with the exception of leaving a message on the front page, and even that doesn’t work the way it did previously. The message doesn’t stay on the front page for all that long anymore, at least the way I see it…

I like the aura changes, from Light/Dark/Neutral/Evil/Fab to Blank Slate, Audiophile, Musician, Gamer, Animator, Writer, Melancholy etc. The medals have rearranged themselves in the order presented to us in the games, and though this is a seemingly minor change, it works for games like Achievement Unlocked 2, where the medals form a specific picture. The staff also kept the Classic Flash Portal, which I do like visiting from time to time.

I would honestly have liked to see a Classic Audio Portal making a comeback, because there are only 8(?) new tracks on display each time, and with the volume of music and voices submitted to this site, only a fraction of these submissions get listened to each time. I want everyone to have a chance, not just the lucky eight, or even those with a strong following.

Also, in light of recent events: there have been a number of cases of audio theft, and many Newgrounds audio artists have been left victims. Many have been debating removing the download option entirely, or simply making it an option rather than making it mandatory. Regardless of the many suggestions made, I still think a consensus needs to be made about the Audio Portal here: it is too easily prone to abuse, particularly audio theft. We know who the thieves are.

I think the implications of the Creative Commons licence need to be made clear and more prominent. Creative Commons is legally binding as it is a licence with terms and conditions by which we upload our work, but a lot of people neglect that, or don’t think that it is legally binding. What’s more is that there is no means of redress via Newgrounds when its members are victims of audio theft. While it is not the fault of Newgrounds, it does bring up concerns about putting in safeguards for uploaded works. Some artists are reluctant to upload their works for fear of theft, and this needs to be addressed: I do not want this to be cause for the decline of Newgrounds."

You are a great audio artist. When did you first feel the desire to make music of your own? Which other artists inspire you?

Troisnyx:

"I had a desire to make my own music at age 13 — in 2004. Three years prior to that, I underwent a mandatory composition project in my music class. Needless to say, I dug my heels in. It felt cumbersome. I didn't do particularly well. I started composing in 2004, because I wanted to put the knowledge I'd gained from that project to good use, and I never looked back since.

I started uploading music in 2010, after seeing the covers uploaded by katethegreat19 (later Erutan) on YouTube. I believed that I had the musical capability to do the same. I thought the same when listening to some video game composers, Yoko Shimomura and Nobuo Uematsu for instance.

Back when I started I had no mixing capability. I had the music, but not the oomph to go with it. I uploaded a phone-recorded cover of Drôle de Creepie by Lisa Gautier, and the rest is history really.

These days I take inspiration from Enya, Clannad, Akiko Shikata, Sarah Brightman, Skala and the Kolacny Brothers, Kokia, and a bit of Adiemus — considering their music is within the same genre of what I mostly do."

It seems like you play a fair amount of instruments. Which was the first instrument that you learned to play? Do you think that some instruments can convey different emotions, like the double bass being associated with somber and sad pieces of music? Lastly, which instruments do you like to use the most for your projects?

Troisnyx:

"I first learned to play the piano, at age 3, but it took me four years to get good foundations: I only started taking graded examinations when I was 7. The rest, I picked up in relatively recent years: I started handling a drum kit when I was 16, and the rest is history I suppose. I now also play the pipe organ, most drums and untuned percussion, the harmonica and the glockenspiel, and I can just about get a melody out of a recorder and a tin whistle.

As for instruments conveying different emotions, I think yes and no. It often depends on how the instrument is played. I often use the double bass as groundwork for orchestral pieces, happy or sad. Imagine this: you would play bouncy melodies on a piano and they would sound happy, or you could drag the melody on, play slowly, and it'd sound sad. The same applies for most other instruments.

Granted, there are some instruments that apply to certain pieces, because they convey emotions better within a specific range of pieces. For instance, I play the bodhrán (it's an Irish frame drum). I wouldn't use it in any and every piece I play. It fits folk and ethnic pieces a lot, and I can convey emotions in them quite well, happy or sad. It works surprisingly well with jazz, and it works if you're planning to introduce some primal energy by using more than just an ordinary drum kit.

I guess instrument use ultimately depends on what you are intending to use it for.

For my projects, I ground my pieces on the piano, since that has been my main instrument for years. I have recently gained access to a MIDI keyboard, which makes composing a whole lot easier (where I previously had to mouse-click every single note into a program). I enjoy drumming a lot, and so I occasionally use the bodhrán for recordings. And let's not forget the voice: I enjoy singing too. : )"

Chant de l'Eveil is your cover of the Ballad of the Windfish of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. Aside from this song, which other titles from the Zelda titles do you like? Could you imagine doing more Zelda covers in the future?

Troisnyx:

"I have watched (but not played) Wind Waker and Majora’s Mask, and I like what I see in those games — though I have a personal preference for Wind WakerMajora’s Mask can be a bit depressing at times. I'm currently playing Twilight Princess — I'm in the relatively early stages of the game — and I like it so far, but I’m aware that this game is in the same timeline as Majora’s Mask, so my reactions to it are yet to be seen.

I would be glad to do more Zelda covers, though I would either do so if a song touches me, or if someone recommends a song to me. Some of you may have noticed from my Work in Progress and Reject Reels that I have two “rejected” Zelda covers. I’ve received a number of comments asking if I could perhaps revive them and post the finished works at some point. Time to get off my lazy hiney and un-reject those covers…"

Aside from creating music, you also make great drawings. Do you prefer to work with a tablet or to draw completely from hand? What tips can you give aspiring new artists to get started?

Troisnyx:

"I prefer drawing by hand. I don't have a working tablet, and all my digital drawings up to this point have been done with a mouse or a touchpad. It is infernal, to say the least. It hurts my index finger, keeps it locked in a certain position... and detailed drawings, which I prefer doing, can take hours on end. I wouldn't mind working digitally if it involved touching up, or adding a second layer of colour to give my art a bit of vibrancy.

Now, some words for aspiring artists.

Firstly, don't be afraid to draw. This has often been my own downfall; I was often afraid because I didn't know what others would think about the work I've done. Don't be afraid of anything — comments (or lack thereof), views (or lack thereof), reviews (or lack thereof)! Draw, get it out there, rinse, repeat. I will do my best to follow this advice along with you.

Secondly, if someone gives you advice on proportions, colouring, or even composition, take it. Think also on how accomplished artists, animators and filmmakers use composition and colours to bring out emotions. Look at posters, look at pieces of art that others submit, and see what you can perhaps learn from it. I try to do the same myself.

Thirdly, there's no harm in gifting a drawing to someone you cherish, even if it isn't the best drawing out there. You'll be appreciated greatly for it. : ) Trust me, I know."

You recently came back from your Lent. Tell my readers what Lent is and what you did in this time.

Troisnyx:

"Lent is a solemn Christian observance, covering approximately six weeks before Easter Sunday. It's meant to be a time of prayer, repentance of sins, giving alms, fasting and/or abstinence, self-denial. While I want to try and do these things all throughout the year, it's especially pronounced during Lent. Basically, we commemorate the 40 days that Jesus Christ spent fasting in the desert before the beginning of his public ministry — and where he was tempted in many ways, but resisted.

With Lent being a season of pronounced self-denial, it's customary for Christians to give up something, or refrain from doing something throughout Lent, to help them become better persons, or perhaps direct the time elsewhere to something in service of others. It has to be something of a challenge, which makes it worthwhile. (Now, if we can't think of anything to give up, we could perhaps undertake to do something throughout the forty days of Lent, say, volunteer at a charity, or learn how to care for a sick person, something that fits the intention of getting ourselves out of our comfort zones and making us ready to serve others.)

My Lenten fast was from Newgrounds; I gave it up for the season. I did this because I felt that I was going on NG a lot without actually being inspired to do anything productive; I was merely browsing, and so it began to take up my time in a way I did not want. Other things got added to the observance too: my boyfriend gave up meaty sandwiches, crisps, Dandelion & Burdock — a sweet drink which is a bit like sarsaparilla — and a few other things, and I observed some of it along with him. I had no crisps or D&B throughout the season.

I also spent these forty days writing, contemplating and praying through song, particularly through the church choir. Other than that, my days were normal, I guess.

During the last three days of my absence from NG — Thursday 17 April to Saturday 19 April — we had what is known as the Triduum, the three days leading up to Easter Sunday. It's a three-part commemoration/celebration: we remember Christ’s Last Supper with his followers on Maundy Thursday, the crucifixion and death of Christ on Good Friday, and the resurrection of Christ on Holy Saturday/Easter Vigil. It's going to take too much space to explain all these in full to everyone, so I've put in explanatory links. Do read them to see what happens on these three days. Yes, I participated in these three days.

I sang at Masses and services during these three days, and played the timpani on Easter Vigil. Also on Easter Vigil, I sang while dehydrated, and I had no water to wet my throat. Arg. Needless to say, I am tuckered out and need my rest!"

You took part in the NG London Meet 2013. Whom did you met there? What was the funniest experience of the meet up?

Troisnyx:

"I met Luis, Wonchop, Kreid, StupidHumorKing and cjbouchermedia, among others. There were at least 30-odd people there. CJ was talking to many others about his then upcoming animation, Battle for Great Britron, and he was showing us sketches for the series. I listened and recorded with great interest. That Friday, if I recall correctly, was Luis' birthday, but I joined him the day after and for him, I suppose, it was a belated birthday celebration.

The funniest moment from that day was when we all put these many Namco Arcade tickets we had collected on the table where Luis was sitting, and someone remarked that they looked like roses on his table!

I remember also that Luis had a sketchbook, and he passed it round and everyone drew a birthday message for him. I didn't find that bit funny, I found it disturbing that nearly all the birthday messages involved a certain bodily appendage, and I was one of very few who kept our greetings clean…

Other funny moments could be found through socialising with everyone present there. There was even an instance where I got to wear Wonchop’s trademark red goggles… Everyone said I looked like some kind of comic book or video game character, though people were debating whether I looked like Jubilee from some Marvel(?) comics, or Rikku from Final Fantasy X…"

What can we expect from you in the future, Troisnyx?

Troisnyx:

"Hopefully more poignant music, and more cheery drawings. I’m currently working on a lyrical cover of Sacred Moon, one of the background themes from Kingdom Hearts II. Part of the lyrical input to this cover has been given by AlbertStClare, and I’m really looking forward to hearing the finished work myself.

One day, I don’t know when, I would like to share a series of drum-and-voice recordings. There are a number of songs, most of them hymns, that I sing while accompanying myself on the bodhrán, and it just sounds powerful at times. I say I want to share these songs, and I’ve been saying so for a long time, but I hadn’t had the opportunity to sit down in peace and record them just yet. Ideally, I would like some of these to be in video format too.

With regards to drawings, I’m working on a series of big posters with childlike themes. Journey at the Speed of Light is the first in this series.

I’m now in the midst of colouring the second picture in this series, a drawing with a sweetshop theme. Feel free to view the work in progress here. I would like this and the rest of the pictures in this series to be calendar pieces, but we’ll see where this goes.

Also to hype up some excitement: I have received word that NG will be celebrating its 20th anniversary on 6 July 2015. Yes, the site’s been in existence for that long! Some time ago, on a number of threads, I discussed this with a number of Audio Portal friends, and we were all thinking along the lines of some massive art, animation and audio collaboration. I’m not sure what it’d look like or how it’d turn out, but allow me to put in some sort of shameless plug for this event: I only have this drawing to share, as a sort of contribution to the prospective collab. But goodness knows what marvels could come out of this if all of us put our heads together and did something spectacular for it!"

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username DarkMage13 and why did you change it to DrClay?

DrClay:

"DarkMage13 was a name I used for a lot of things. Before I joined Newgrounds, I used to make little cartoons within different programs; I’ll get more into that later. Anyway, DarkMage is just a name I picked for those types of cartoons. I also would use this alias for playing games like Battlefield 1942 and StarCraft. The idea of DarkMage made me picture a night in dark armor. I was just some dumb kid trying to sound badass.

The reason I changed it to DrClay because I was annoyed at having a number in my name and I also had the intention of trying out Claymation, as I was inspired by Knox. However that didn’t go so well. But I decided to stick with the name DrClay since people started to get to know me under that name.

I’ve had some people tell me they thought DarkMage was a bit more interesting but I thought it was rather cheesy. Like a name that was trying to be epic rather than actually being so. Also before anyone asks, the number within the name DarkMage13 had nothing to do with my age. I was 16 years old when I created the account. The only reason the number was part of the name was because “DarkMage” was apparently already taken. Why I picked 13 is beyond me."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

DrClay:

"Oh of course! What user wouldn’t of?
Back when I first signed up, I was immature and ignorant on how the site worked.
Whenever someone would say “Noob” I would take offense to it and lash out at that user.
Sometimes I would also try to be a jerk to someone on the forum in an attempt to be funny.
After a while I realized that it wasn’t cool to do that and I matured into a much more different user.
I feel that Newgrounds showed me on how the world really works.

As a new user you are bound to deal with a lot of people who are going to poke fun at you for being the new guy, that you can’t expect something for nothing. You can’t just automatically become the popular guy, and you can’t just send in anything in the portal and get rewarded for it. You got to work hard and never give up. It took a little adjusting but eventually I became a little more familiar with the site and its users. I feel that it helped me mature into a better person."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

DrClay:

"There are two users who basically are the reason why I’m even on this site. Knox and Randy-Solem. If I didn’t come across their work then I probably wouldn’t have found this site. Knox is the reason why I am even under the name “DrClay” because like I said earlier, he inspired me to try out Claymation. His work was really hilarious and a lot more different than anyone else’s content. Even now sometimes I like to kick back and watch one of his classics. They might be simple but they are classics.

Randy inspired me to do sprite animation. Not only was his work something I wasn’t used to seeing but it was also a nostalgic trip of all the memories playing the games that the sprites were from. Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom was one of the first cartoons I saw and it really made me amazed to how much of a story he made. Even though the art wasn’t his original work I believe he did a great job. I also loved his Mario VS Sonic cartoon as well. When I heard the news of his passing I was shocked. Randy had a large impact on me and is the reason why my first animation is a sprite animation…
I wish the best for his loved ones.

I also have some acquaintances on the forum like LiquidFire and Lionelion."

DrClay:

"I never had the intention of making enemies on the site and I don’t really have a dislike towards any user. I’m not really someone to find a reason to dislike someone because I feel that is disrespectful and just childish.

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

DrClay:

Meh, I think the forums have really slowed down. Things aren’t that active and it just seems a lot more boring. I usually only post if the topic is interesting, something I am familure with, or something that I find amusing like a photoshop topic. I don’t know if the forums have grown old on me or maybe it just isn’t that interesting as it used to be.

Around 2007 and such I think the forum was a lot more active. Maybe it was just because there was a lot more interesting users or maybe it was when the site was more popular. It just seemed like it was a lot nicer and more fun back in the day then it is now.

I tend to browse the general forum just because some topics that might be interesting tend to show up in that section. I also browse the video game forum because who doesn’t like talking about video games? Though I don’t post that often. As for another user to be interviewed, I honestly wouldn’t know because I am not sure if they have already been interviewed already."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

DrClay:

"I never had a negative opinion towards the mods. Not even the really strict ones that a lot of users hate like EyeLovePoozy or bigbadron. I feel the mods do a decent job keeping to forums clean. If I was to say anything , I think the forums have become a lot less strict. Occasionally I come across a topic that just seems like its spam or a waste. There are also some users who I feel would have been banned if it was 2006. But other than that I think it’s alright."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

DrClay:

"I never really thought about it. If I was offered to become one I would probably accept, I like to help out with the site and such if possible. As for what kind of mod, I don’t really know. I never really felt I was active enough to really become a mod. I don’t really have a perception on whether if I was a mod or not."

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

DrClay:

"Well, If I remember correctly the site was changed a little before the actual redesign took place. I think at one point the header of the site was changed to how it was in 2007 about a month or two before the redesign took place. I really approved of the redesign though. In the old layout I found the header of the site to be a little confusing, I don’t think there was even a button for the collections page. The new header seemed a lot more convenient and organized. The look of the site was really well done and wasn’t too different from the original layout. I liked that even though it was a new layout it still was keeping with the original style of the site. It didn’t look or feel like a completely different site it felt like the same site just in an HD format.

The audio portal also had a nice little way of scrolling through the song rather than just having a play button. I also liked the visualizer that was added for when you played a song. Another nice feature was that they would have best songs of the week be playing on the front page. Originally it was just Paragonx9’s music. While I do agree her music is awesome, it was a nice way to give a shout out to other users in this method.

I also liked how were given a user page profile. It was a lot nicer looking then the original user page in 2005. I also liked Bytesize, it was a nice little preview on what the site had to offer. Sadly it isn’t on the page anymore but users can still find it on Tom’s account.
There was a few things that I didn’t like as well…

For example, the audio portal no longer showed the featured artist at the top of the page. Instead they were cast aside to the lower right corner of the page. I felt that pretty much made a lot of artist that were featured get overlooked. The idea of having the featured artist on the page made it more noticeable and made users more aware of that artist.

Another thing I didn’t like was that each song was in its own page. In the old layout, the whole library of the user’s music was displayed on a single page so you can easily cycle through a list of songs rather than having load one song, go back to the user account, load the next song and repeat.

I also didn’t like how a lot of features and content was removed or toned down. For example, in the old layout if you blammed a cartoon or protected one you would get a small animation showing the content being saved or removed. I also miss the whistle animation. It was a funny little gimmick that I miss.

All and all there was a lot of nice new bells and whistles and it really did well for the site.
But there was a lot of little things that were removed that I missed.
Still there was a lot more good then there was bad."

The last redesign happened 2012. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

DrClay:

"Yeah I do. I think the staff did a great job with developing all the new features they’ve introduced in the past two years. I like how users are no longer limited to flash format when it comes to uploading content and can upload video files. This really helps those who do not own Adobe Flash yet wish to entertain. It also helps users who upload both to Newgrounds and to Youtube. Instead of making two versions, people can easily just upload the same version on both sites. And for users who still use flash, there is a backup plan for when your cartoon lags a lot.
I also like how we can now have our own user icons for the forum. Yes they are a simple thing but I still like it.

I also like how we are now notified when someone replies to us on the forum, as well as providing a review or comment on our blog. In my opinion, that’s been long overdue.
If I were to say that something wasn’t good it would be more of a nitpicking thing and nothing that I feel is a HUGE issue. One thing I can say is I kind of have mixed feelings for the visual appearance of the site, almost like it’s a bit of an overkill. I liked the simplicity of the old design and now it just seems like a completely different design rather than a tribute to its old style. But maybe that is what the staff was going for, something new rather then something remade. And I don’t think it’s bad, it’s just different.

The collections seem a lot more clunked together at times and it’s sometimes a little difficult for me to locate where one particular collection would be because it’s apparently within another collection. For example, the politics collection is within the culture collection. I kind of liked it when each major collection had its own section on the page itself. Where you could easily just scroll your eyes over the featured collections instead of looking within other collection pages to find a certain collection. But like I said, these are more or less nitpicking and don’t really effect my experience on the site.

If I was to actually pick something that I feel is a bit of an issue it would be that I hope to see the video format developed a bit more. Users tend to like creating links within their videos using buttons, like how youtube has annotations. I hope that Newgrounds eventually does that as well.

Speaking of Youtube, in the past few months Youtube has changed terribly with their new rules and automated copyright claim accounts and it seems almost a risk just to make a small reference. Even things like royalty free music can cause a red flag at times. With that, I hope Newgrounds doesn’t make the same mistake."

You are a successful animator. When did you start animating?

DrClay:

"First I just want to say thanks for the kind words. I never really saw myself as a successful animator honestly. For as long as I can remember I’ve always been doing some kind of animating. I even used to make little stop motions with my toys back when I was 10 years old. For a while I was just being a regular dumb kid. I didn’t even overdub the stopmotion, I did it during each take of the movement. In other words, I would speak a sentence, move the toy, and finish a sentence. When I was 11 I was sitting in computer class at school and I saw a cartoon with this sock puppet type character on the screen of some girl in front of me. I asked her what the site was and she told me “Homestarrunner.” I even remember the cartoon that she was watching, it was the one where Homestar is doing a commercial for his website but keeps screwing up.

That’s right, Homestarrunner is what introduced me to flash. Although I didn’t know what flash was or even how it worked, but I was witnessing cartoons on the internet. Which believe it or not, was a big thing at the time. I remember I used to think they would animate this content in something like MS Paint and such, something that required them to draw every frame of animation and would mash them together with voices and music using a slideshow type software. Eventually I find out that the program is called “Flash” and I discover other artist along the line. Knox, Randy-Solem, and a few others.

I came across a program called “Moho” which I thought was what people were using. Because the program had an option to “Export as flash” However it isn’t that good. If you want to animate I wouldn’t recommend this program. It’s rather outdated and hasn’t aged well.

After a while I discover Adobe Flash. I have to say when I first started using Adobe Flash it was really frustrating. I couldn’t figure out how to do anything… But with practice I eventually caught on. And that’s basically it. From animating with toys to animating with computers. If you ask me, not much has changed. Heh."

How did you feel when you won your first Newgrounds Daily award for your submission That Mean Olde Villain?

DrClay:

That is one of my favorite shorts I’ve made. I made that in a short amount of time because I was having such fun doing it. When I submitted the cartoon I did some lurking on the portal and saw that I had the highest scoring flash that was sent in on that day. I was so excited because I thought I was going to win the daily first. And then El-Cid sent in his Bambee flash and I lost the daily first against it.

I’m gonna be honest, I was kind of annoyed about that. But, El-Cid did a great job and congrats to him.
I was still very happy to win the daily second because that was something I never got before. I never had a flash reach any of the daily top 5 and I felt really honored to get second place. I even saved a screen cap of the post at the time."

In the past you submitted many video game inspired audio tracks to Newgrounds. Do you think that you will start doing music for the Newgrounds audio portal again?

DrClay:

"Things have really been going slow for me because I haven’t really had a lot of ideas lately. Sometimes I will find myself working on a small project only to lose interest or ideas during the middle or even just a few minutes after getting a small song started. The same goes for animation and just about everything else. I do hope to make a new start someday. At the moment things are a little crazy with my personal life and well sometimes I have to sacrifice time towards something a little more important. Sometimes it takes me a while to even get a song started. I’m not sure if I am having a hard time writing music or if I am just lazy. But you know what they say, slow and steady wins the race. I went for a while without making music before and suddenly I was inspired to make one of my most popular songs “8 Bit Boss Fight.”

What video game soundtrack is your favourite of all time?

DrClay:

"I would think that I have far too many to count. Back in the day I used to use software to download music just so I can download video game music. But I’ll try to name what I can….

One of my favorite songs will always be Donkey Kong Country’s Aquatic Ambiance. You can’t picture any other level with this song, and with that it is a powerful piece of music. Not to mention that this song was created with limitations of what the SNES could do. If this was made in modern times it might not of been as powerful. I love the song not only for how it sounds but for how they were able to pull this off with what limitations they had to deal with.

Another song I absolutely love is the Killer Instinct Theme Song, mainly the Arcade. It’s like the Mortal Kombat Remix song, it just gets your blood pumping and ready for an intense fight.

There is also the Ice Cap Song in Sonic, Battlefield 1942’s theme, Mario Party 3’s Chilly Water’s (its so christmasy :3) and The Stone Tower song in Majora’s Mask.

I have a lot more but I there’s far too many to list.
Those are ones that have always been my most favorite though.

Oh and SA2B’s City Escape and Kirby’s Fountain Of Dream’s remix’s (Mainly the SSBM remix, and the SSB64 song). See like I said, far too many to remember and list."

You are one of the most active members of the Newgrounds User Icon makers. What tips can you give aspiring new members?

DrClay:

"Other than using a decent art design program there really isn’t a lot of tips to give. Making a user icon usually is just filling out a request or posting one that you feel might be interesting.
If a user doesn’t use the icon you made don’t take it as an insult. And always keep at it.
If you wanna give it a shot then go ahead, you got nothing to lose."

What was your reaction when the initial icon makers thread got deleted due to the deletion of the topic creator?

DrClay:

"I didn’t know about the thread’s deletion until a newer thread was made. If I knew of it when it happened, I would probably would of made the new thread. I was really bummed out when I found out about it though. I felt like all of the contributions that everyone made to the club was erased. Me and a lot of other talented users made a lot of great icons and they were all gone. Cyberdevil did provide us with a library of all the original icons and like you pointed out, there is a new thread for the club. But I feel like things have really slowed down ever since the original thread was deleted."

Doctor Who is one of your favourite tv series. Tell my readers what you like about the series.

DrClay:

"What I like about the series is that every episode is different. You can have a nice little western episode, A Town Called Mercy, and then another one might be taking place in the US during the great depression, Daleks in Manhatten. It’s not like a normal television show where all the episodes have a similar setting. With that I feel it gives the writers a lot of freedom to do what they want while maintaining a decent story. You aren’t required to have a large suspension of disbelief because it practically has no rules, you don’t have to believe in aliens or anything for it to be more entertaining. I also love the writing of “most” episodes and I think they tell a really nice story. Most episodes are almost like watching an actual movie.

Only problem is that recently they seem to be taking the term “no rules” a bit too seriously… The Doctors Sonic Screwdriver is practically just a magic wand that can fix anything… Like a get out of jail free card.

I also wish that BBC America would air more episodes then just the 2 most recent series…."

Who is your favourite doctor?

DrClay:

"I can’t really say because it wouldn’t be fair to declare who my favorite doctor is without allowing myself to of seen all of them in action. I will however provide you with who my favorite doctor is so far. That would be the tenth doctor, played by David Tennant. You don’t just see an alien with a time machine, you see the guilt of losing so much in his life. Losing companions and even his race along with many others.

I love his style and how he dresses in the blue suit and trench coat. He’s also not someone to let anyone stand in his way, if anyone was to threaten him or anyone who he cared for he stood up against them, even if it meant taking the lives of those who threaten him which is usually not something he wants to resort to. He’s like a cop, he doesn’t want to take a life. But if he has to, he will. He is how I would picture the doctor, a creature who has lost so much but still standing up for others so they don’t lose anything themselves.

Matt Smith is sort of my second favorite. When he started out he seemed really well developed and I felt he was really entertaining. I liked him about as much as I did Tennant. He was more of a laid back version of the 10th doctor. Like the 10th doctor, he doesn’t let anyone push him around. There are a lot of memorable moments of him being a real badass and awesome. But unfortunately I feel like he got really toned down in the later series, which is why he is my second favorite. I don’t necessarily blame the actor though, I just feel that sometimes there was too much characters or plot for one episode.

I’ve also seen the 9th doctor but I haven’t really seen a lot of him. I think he’s alright but he just isn’t really my favorite one."

Which episode is your favourite?

DrClay:

"First of all before I get into this I just want to say that there are going to be some spoilers here so if you want to avoid that then don’t read. One of my favorite episodes is A Town Called Mercy because it mixes everything I love about Western’s and Doctor Who. You don’t really need a large suspension of disbelief for this one either, it really does a great job with making the situation seem so real. Eventually you find out that there isn’t really any villain in this episode. It has more of an anti-hero feel. It’s a really nice paced episode that doesn’t go to quickly or to slowly. Some Fans have argued that they find the episode boring but I never have, and I don’t really see why they would…
A Town Called Mercy is also one of the episodes where I feel Matt was a great doctor. Again, I haven’t seen the entire series so I am unable to give an opinion. A lot of old school fans say tome of the cyberman is a great one. I haven’t seen it and I don’t feel I can give a proper opinion on it without seeing it."

Which actor would you like to be casted as doctor in the future?

DrClay:

"I honestly wouldn’t know, I’m not really a British Television watcher so I’m not really familiar with British actors. Even if it was an American actor I wouldn’t know. It might sound strange but I’m not really someone who knows a lot of decent actors. An actor that I could name off the top of my head would be someone like Jim Carrey, and he would be a TERRIBLE doctor…."

Your childhood is when you first got in contact with both the Mario and Sonic games. Which are your respective favourite games?

DrClay:

"Well it’s funny because I had the rare privilege of playing both Mario and Sonic as a kid. When I was born my family had an NES. We only had three games for it. The Super Mario Brothers Duckhunt and Stadium Events cartridge, Bill Eliots Nascar Challenge and the first of the TMNT games. It wasn’t a lot but it was 1992. Not really a time to find NES games at your local video game store.

Those are basically what we played for a while until my brother got a Sega Genesis. First game I played on the Sega, Sonic the Hedgehog. I still would play the nes every now and then, eventually the nes broke though so all I had was a Sega Genesis. I liked it, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles is still one of my most favorite gems. I was like 4 years old when we got it so I don’t really remember much about the day we first got it. Only that it was difficult to hook up.
I also was a fan of Mortal Kombat 3, as well as Ultimate Mortal Kombat. I would always kick my brothers ass in it. If I was ever in a Mortal Kombat Tournament I would use a Sega Genesis controller. (The X Y Z one of course) Favorite Characters: Sektor, Cyrax, Smoke, Sub-Zero and Scorpion.

Looking back I don’t think it has aged well. In most experiences people tend to find ways to perform combos in the game that are very long or infinite. They are practically exploiting and if you happen to have an opponent who does this, you pretty much are going to lose.

Killer Instinct is my all-time favorite fighting game.
I think everyone should play this game at least once in their life, it is just amazing.
You haven’t lived unless you’ve played this game.
I also favor all the classic Rare games on the N64 like Donkey Kong 64 and Banjo Kazooie and Tooie."

How well have both franchises developed in your opinion?

DrClay:

Sega was my favorite company. This was a company that was taking on Nintendo, one of the most famous video game companies and back then there wasn’t Sony or Microsoft so Nintendo and Sega were the only competitors in the console wars. I loved Sega because they really went above and beyond with what they had. Unfortunately they also made a lot of mistakes in the last days of the Genesis. With the failure of both the 32x and Sega CD, a lot of third party companies didn’t want to produce for Sega anymore.

Also with the Sega Dreamcast you’d think that Sega would have been able to stick around. But Sony made the PS2 and thus Sega was eliminated from the console wars. Sony basically is who killed Sega.
It’s a shame because I always felt that Sega was ahead of their time. A lot of people will say that the SNES is better than the Genesis and I do agree. But you are comparing a system that was made to compete with the NES with the SNES. Sega made the Genesis 2 years before the SNES so of course the SNES is going to be superior, the technology was better when the SNES was made.

And the Dreamcast is a console still worshiped today.
Not to mention all the classic games made by Sega that are practically legends.
Crazy Taxi, Earthworm Jim, Gunstar Heros, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and many others.
Looking at Sega now it’s sort of depressing. Ever since they stopped being an independent company with its own console they haven’t really been the same.

Sure they still make third party games and all but sometimes I like to kick back and play some Crazy Taxi and remember the good times. I grew up with a Genesis and sort of upsetting to know that you won’t get to play a new Sega Console.

Nintendo seems to be going to the same route, I don’t think the Wii-U is going to be a good console.
Sure the graphics and everything look nice but I don’t really see a lot of games that were really made for the system itself, and I’m starting to think that in a few years Nintendo might not be around anymore. I hope that doesn’t happen."

Team Fortress 2 is one your favourite games. When did you start playing it and what changes to it did you like and dislike?

DrClay:

"If I remember correctly, I started playing it around late 2009. I think I actually started playing around before the hats were such a big thing, as well as the weapons. If you play the game now, it would look far more different then it was. Every player has accessories and whatnot. It’s basically becoming TF2 Dress Up and quite frankly I don’t like it. Yeah having different hats and everything is cute and all but I think it’s starting to become overkill. So I suppose that is one change I can say I’m starting to dislike.

I do like how they decided to be more open to the community and welcome new maps and things that people have made for the game. It’s a good way to show the younger audience how to design content for video games."

When did you start your own Team Fortress Newgrounds server and what are some of the funniest experiences that you had there?

DrClay:

"I started the server around 2012. There really haven’t been a lot of experiences on it unfortunately. Most of the time, the server is empty. Sorry there isn’t much to say for this one. Occasionally I would have Toad and LiquidFire drop by, but we all have different time zones and it’s sometimes very difficult to arrange a meet up. Back when the server was made for Man Versus Machine, a different gameplay type that only required 6 players or less, it was a lot more active. I keep wanting to close it but at the same time I keep hoping that some players will start hang around on it."

DrClay:

"Sometimes in my spare time, I like to just randomly do silly voices and practice in voice acting. I could be driving to work or perhaps just chilling at my computer and I’ll just start talking in a random type of character’s voice. I can do a decent Duke Nukem voice but it takes a lot of effort. It’s nothing really major. It’s just something I’m doing as a way of practicing for voice work. Someday I do want to try out for voice acting, and I feel this is a good way to keep practicing."

DrClay:

"At the moment I don’t really know.
There are so many things that I would like to try to do, to do, and to get back to doing.
I’ve been toying around with programming and also with 3D Modeling/Animation.
I’m hoping someday to use that knowledge for projects I plan on submitting.
I also would like to try out voice acting as well. The idea of doing work for a project and seeing how someone would use that content has always been an excitement to me and I would love to try it for voicing.
But most of this is for another day.
I think for now I will just take one day at a time and do what I can."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user orangebomb.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username orangebomb?

orangebomb:

"I found Newgrounds about 10 years ago when some friends of mine suggested it as a place to play games and stuff, they didn't really specify what was on NG though. Also at the time, the Iraq war was just starting and the bashing of Saddam Hussein sounded like a hilarious romp, and just like that, it led me to Newgrounds, complete with all of the old porno/hentai ads they used to have around the site as pop-ups. I think the first game that I remember playing was called TerrorWar-Da PAYBACK, and I freaking loved it, not necessarily for the racist value it had, {or so they say, considering it was more tounge-in-cheek satire} but as a 13-14 year old kid blasting terrorists with nukes.

After that, I started to frequent the site more and more, enjoying the various sprite flashes from the late great Randy-Solem, along with Krinkels' series, RobsH66's Fallen Angel and some of the Assassin games such as K-Fed: Dancing with Fire and Celebrity Terrorist Alert.

I actually wanted to join much earlier to Newgrounds around 2007 or so, but my old computer pretty much crapped out on me at the time, so I couldn't do it, though to be honest, I was getting a little bored with Newgrounds then {hard to believe that eh?} so I just keep putting it off until 2010, when I rediscovered the site and decided to sign up. As for the name orangebomb, that really wasn't the first name I thought up of, it was more of a spur of the moment type of name, and I didn't want to name it after something gimmicky or anything like that that was all over the forums then and now, so I decided to to use the name orangebomb and just ran with it. I would like to think that I made a good decision to go with that name."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

orangebomb:

"In some ways, yes. When I first signed up, I was a bit immature and naive about the forums, game/movie reviews and so on, and some of my early posts and reviews were pretty awful. It wasn't like I wasn't lurking all the time, because that's what I did, but it seem like I was trying a little too hard to be witty and informative at the same time. After a while, my debating skills got better and my knowledge on things began to get noticed, {both positively and negatively} from the regulars, though I still have a habit of tangling with the reputable trolls and shit-starters on the forums, as I usually try to stay away from them in a topic, but sometimes I just couldn't help myself trying to put them in their place and not try to start a flame war.

As for real life, not so much. I usually try to keep my NG persona and my regular life separate, but I've learned a lot of things on said forums that could make for some good trivia, or get a better understanding on particular beliefs and the issues that I couldn't get in most other places, considering that they most of them seem to have a huge bias towards one thing or another when it comes to video games, politics, etc. Of course, being online in front of a computer screen with a certain degree of anonymity, you can be whoever you want to portray yourself as, though I always try to maintain some sort of decorum and responsibility to inform, and/or express my thoughts, and not try to be an total asshole, tempting as that might be."

orangebomb:

There are some ones that I respect and like, such as:

Idiot-finder, we have pretty similar interests in anime and sports, and sometimes in politics as well. Plus, I usually enjoy some of the crack-fics that he occasionally makes on his news page.

RydiaLockheart is another user that I respect big-time. Unlike most other posters, she is very knowledgeable, and doesn't make herself into a fool, and is very enjoyable.

Dr-Worm is another one, even though I disagree with a lot of his points, he doesn't come off as a total jerk when in a debate."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

orangebomb:

"I wouldn't necessarily call them enemies per se, as I don't really meet them face-to-face IRL, but there are some who annoy the hell out of me, and I simply despise mostly because I feel like they are general assholes or simply wallow in their own ignorance.

Once upon a time, I had a beef with people like Travis, {formerly Liquify}, Kermitthemuppet and Onett {fomerly Mendou}. The first one was due to the fact that I was a Cincinnati Bengals fan, while he rooted for the Cleveland Browns, and it always seem like it was a good idea to take potshots on my team, in spite of the fact that his team was godawful and kept making stupid ass decisions when it came to football. Really in a way, I think he had a serious inferiority complex when it came to sports. {It doesn't help that he was a total Ohio State Buckeye honk who are the college equivalent of the San Diego Chargers, do well in the regular season, but choke like dogs in the biggest games with the attitude of Red Sox Nation, who are arrogant fair-weather assholes.}

As for the other two, they were the "so-called" leaders of the Anime Club some years ago, and they often de-railed any conversation about anime into something that is totally unrelated, and their elitist view of the good old days. Thankfully, the mods got rid of both of them and it returned back to what it was supposed to be, though there has been a lot of anime-related threads in General, which made the Anime Club almost irrelevant at times.

Now, the biggest 3 that I know of is Natick, who is a massive jerk who seems to enjoy de-railing threads anytime something like EA or Call of Duty is mentioned, and calling me a "corporate apologist" for speaking my opinion, leanlifter1, who is basically this version of shaggytheclown of the past, always putting the scapegoat on Obama and America, mostly though his sheer ignorance of politics. Finally, I really do detest TheKlown, not necessarily because of de-railing threads, but more of being a total insensitive ass in his posts. IIRC, he actually sent a threatening post to Obama, and tried to back-track it by saying it was a joke. Joke or not, that's one of the few things you don't do online, because death threats towards the president is considered serious business, and I'm sure that Tom and Wade don't want to deal with the feds over that, they got enough on their plate as is."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

orangebomb:

"I like the forums, but sometimes there are always some people who generally enjoy making asses of themselves by posting stupid stuff on there and get everyone into a hissyfit over whatever, but compared to some other forums that I've been on, {I refuse to mention them by name, they're that bad.}, it's not so bad. I don't necessarily have a favorite forum that I go to, as I frequent the General, Politics and Video Games forums all the time to see what's what, and see what there thoughts are on a certain subject. Both the politics and VG forums are usually more detailed and have less flame-bait {not by much though} material than General, which is probably the forum equivalent of a bar brawl, and where you get the widest gamut of answers, from sensible and well-thought, to trollish and even insane at times."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

orangebomb:

"I don't have much of a problem with the mods, though I notice that some of them tend to be stern or even jerkish at times. To be fair to them, they do volunteer their time and effort on making the forums {and everywhere else} respectable and I understand that, but there are always a few that are either too lax at what they do, or just seem like they are out to metaphorically crack some skulls.

Except for a very few times though, I have no real beef with them.

Being a mod has some responsibility to it, not to mention trying to refrain from abusing the power like a few of them are, but I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of perks to it as well. If I were to be one though, I would probably be a forum mod, and maybe crack down on some of the bigger shit-starters on the threads."

The last redesign happened 2012. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

orangebomb:

"I didn't really like it at first, I liked the old design better and had gotten used to it, and they used to advertise the adult section of the games and movies {tee hee}. Plus, I kind of liked the old level-up designs and auras compared to the new ones, which were kind of weak to be honest. After a while though, the new design grew with me, and I kind of like it now, as it's more organized than before."

You are a fan of the band Social Distortion. Which of their songs do you like the most? Also, did you enjoy their concert that you visited in 2011?

orangebomb:

"I've been a fan of Social Distortion since the late 90s, though I didn't really comprehend it fully until about 5 years ago or so. I honestly do think that Mike Ness is one the best singer/songwriters in this generation. As for my favorites... That is a tough one to list, but if I had to pick some, it would be in no particular order:

Machine Gun Blues, probably one of the coolest music videos that I've seen, in all of it 1930's gangster glory.

Reach for the Sky is another one, and that's probably the song that replays in my mind the most. For some reason, when I play Midnight Club: LA, this is the song that I always play when I'm driving around in the game, though I guess it's kind of fitting when you're living fast and on the edge in street racing. {The game, that is}

Prison Bound, Don't think twice, and Ness' covers of "Big Iron", {made by Marty Robbins, which was one of my father's favorite country western singers} and Ring of Fire {by the man in black himself, Johnny Cash} are also pretty catchy as well. And yeah, I did enjoy the concert when they came by a few years ago, and I'm not really much of a concert-goer, as I usually prefer to buy the CDs or download music to my MP3 over dealing with the huge crowds, even though the venue wasn't that big at all."

Seems like you watch a variety of anime. Which was the first anime that you became a fan of? Which anime are you currently watching and which ones are your favourites of all time?

orangebomb:

"Growing up, I used to enjoy the hell out of watching Dragon Ball Z, along with Speed Racer, Astro Boy {Hell, my parents still remember watching that show in the 60's when it was in black and white} and Robotech. For the longest time, I didn't even know they were from Japan, much less where Japan was on the map, though that may had to due to the fact that most of those anime back then were edited the hell out of them back then, which included editing out the brutal deaths, any resemblance of fanservice and lesbianism in Sailor Moon. {DiC was the ones who decided to make Sailor Neptune and Uranus cousins instead} At the time, I didn't know or care about all that in the first place, and I would probably forget all about this as I got older {Thankfully, I didn't}.

Currently, I'm watching Attack on Titan, which is boss, along with Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Kill la Kill, Gundam Stardust Memory {the name kind of sounds like a 70's rock album to me, lol} and High School DxD, which is actually a pretty good harem series, compared to Infinite Stratos, which one of my friends suggested I watch, {as I'm a bit of a sucker for boobs and mechs} which might be one of the most painful harems I've ever seen, much less anime in general. At the very least, it's still better than abominations like FLCL or Psychic Wars, which makes me want to go batshit on whoever made those anime, that said, that's honestly not saying very much though when you're comparing one show to a few others that are absolute junk.

Currently my favorites are:

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood {I used to like the original FMA anime, and I still do, but I much prefer the one that used the original source material}
Code Geass, both the first season and R2
Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan, despite the fact that I mostly despise Gainax, or at least have a love-hate relationship with them as a anime producer.
Gundam 08th MS team
Mobile Fighter G Gundam
Last Exile {First season only}
M.D Geist
Golgo 13
Attack on Titan"

You watch American Football. What is your favourite team? What was the most exciting match that you have seen?

orangebomb:

"Growing up in Texas, it was almost a requirement to like football, especially when they treat high school football like a religion down there the same way that fans would in European Soccer, just without the mass rioting. I used to love watching the Detroit Lions when I was a kid, but I wasn't really too serious into it, and the only reason why I would watch them was because of Barry Sanders. Sanders was arguable the face of the league outside of the Cowboys {a team that me and my family hated} and he was literately a class act both on and off the field. Sucks that he had to retire when the rushing record was within his grasp, but considering that the Lions were slowly circling the drain, he may have known something that the rest of us didn't know, considering that they wouldn't make the playoff again until 2011, and before that, they went 0-16 in '08.

Ever since I moved to Ohio about 10 years ago, I've been a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and have been ever since. It's hasn't exactly been the easiest path, especially when you have an owner in Mike Brown that is part Jerry Jones, part Gendo Ikari, and going 23 years without a playoff win, but I really do think that the Bengals are championship contenders now, that is if Andy Dalton doesn't pull a Shinji Ikari and wreak the team with costly turnovers and boneheaded mistakes at the wrong time.

The best game that I ever saw was Super Bowl 42, that had the undefeated Patriots play against the Giants. That game pretty much made David Tyree's career when he caught the ball on his helmet, and I guess the rest is history. That is the kind of game that not even Hollywood could think of."

Xenogears is your most favourite JRPG of all time. Tell my readers what makes this game stand out. What other JRPGs would you recommend for newcomers to the genre?

orangebomb:

"It's been a long time since I finished Xenogears, so my memory of that game is a little fuzzy to be honest, but what I do remember from playing that game was that it had an excellent story that went along with the mecha battles, anime cut scenes, and character development {It seem like Evangelion was its main inspiration, just without the heavy wangst}. With all that, it is easily my favorite JRPG of all time because of this, and I haven't really played many games like it after that had everything that Xenogears had. The only sin that it committed was being released during the Final Fantasy VII craze, and I believed that it got overlooked because of this. It also doesn't help that FFVII has so many goddamn spinoffs and even an anime OVA to go with it, like it needed all that in the first place. Don't get the wrong idea, the game was good overall, but that game was milked to hell and back for what it's worth, and it looks like they're doing the same thing with XIII.

Now, I generally prefer to play Western RPGs like Fallout and Mass Effect, in addition to shooters, fighting, and action-adventure games over JRPGs, but I had to list some JRPG's for newcomers, Pokémon is an obvious choice, as I still enjoy playing Gold/Silver/Crystal and Emerald/Ruby/Sapphire line of games. They're pretty similar in how they work, {capture Pokémon, train them as an army, beat Gym leaders and the Elite 4, and meet the legend PKMN} and it's not as complicated as most other role-playing games out there.

Persona is another one I would recommend, {Particularly 3 and 4} as they mix in dating sim elements {Social Links} with dungeon crawling and a rather deep story about who you really are and to an extent how valuable life and friendships really are. Also for the really brave, the original Shin Megami Tensei series is a must play, though it is hard as hell, especially when the AI in the game is fond of using one-hit-kill attacks and you can get lost easily within the ruins of Tokyo Millennium.

Personally, I would like to see a crossover of Fallout and the Persona series, fighting demons and bandits in a radioactive wasteland while scrounging for food, clean water and building friendships and alternate Persone as you go. It's probably not going to happen for real, but I guess there's always fanfiction."

You like the Bioshock series. Shortly summarize what you like and dislike about each title. What were your most favourite moments of the trilogy? After a city under the sea and one above the clouds, what kind of environment would you have liked to see in a future installment of the series?

orangebomb:

"For the first Bioshock, I was immersed with the world of Rapture and the politics of it all with Andrew Ryan and Atlas/Fontaine, along with the genetic manipulation caused by plasmids and ADAM. Unlike a lot of FPS that usually skimp on the story for the action {not saying that's a bad thing}, Bioshock tells you a story of a man who wanted to be free from oppressive governments and bureaucracy, and how it all went to hell, and breaking free from control seems to be the central theme of the game.

The second one was just as good, but I do think that this is the weakest one of the bunch. It's the kind of game that really went to the well a little too much with Rapture, though to be fair, there were still a lot of things in Rapture worth exploring in that game. Plus the idea of playing a Big Daddy sounded good on paper, but the story behind it was just lacking in comparison, and it really felt limited to not use plasmids and weapons at the same time.

Infinite was almost like the first Bioshock, going into a new world and discovering that it turns to Hell shortly thereafter. Like the first game, there was someone who wanted to get away from the government, thinking that they can make a better society away from them, only to turn out how wrong they were. Unlike Andrew Ryan, the leaders of the factions in Columbia are total assholes who have limited positive qualities to them, if at all, and it actually makes it satisfying to kill them. Though, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the rather trippy ending to it that you have to see to believe.

Ever since Ken Levine left, I had high doubts that Bioshock will get another sequel, with is a shame. I would've like to see an underground city waging war with the surface dwellers over mineral rights or social liberties, or anything else that's ripped from the headlines."

orangebomb:

"I don't necessarily know if it's a secret per se, but I'm a total fanboy from Kallen Stadtfeld from Code Geass. While she's not the first action girl in anime, and hopefully not the last, she is probably my favorite female character in any medium, because she is a sexy badass who doesn't take any shit from anyone, and yet she has a heart as well. This really does set her apart from a lot of main female characters in anime that have some of those qualities, but are either total doormats, are total psychos, or are just unlikeable. Like I said before, I have a weakness for mechs and boobs, and Kallen Stadtfeld {or Kozuki if you prefer} metaphorically stole my heart the first time I saw her in the Guren Mk. II.

I also like cake, with chocolate marshmallow ice cream to go with it, and that is not a lie."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Kogey.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username link-011 and why did you change it to Kogey?

Kogey:

"I found Newgrounds back in 2004, I was about 11 years old when I joined. A very close friend of mine at the time named Danny actually introduced me to the site, he's like "OH YOU CAN WATCH ALL KINDS OF ANIMATED PORN ON IT IT'S GREAT!" I signed up for an opposite reason, I loved playing flash games (Mind you I did view a few porn flashes as puberty was just starting to kick in) and it was pretty much all over from there. I signed up as my stupid 12 year old self, played games, watched videos. Was a grand ol' time for the most part. Hell I even posted on the forums a bit but I wouldn't suggest going back that far in my posts because my 11 year old self is pretty embarassing x3"

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Kogey:

"Oh of course, it's literally about 10 years ago that I've signed up so I've changed massively as both a person and a user here on newgrounds. Even though I'm only 21 I've gone through a fair share of real life shit within those 10 years to change me. I've grown up a lot since I've signed up, the fact that I still have this Newgrounds account means a lot to me be able to look back and see what I was like 10 years ago. It's kinda like a time capsule of the internet."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Kogey:

"Oh plenty, there's loads of people who I love and respect on Newgrounds. Even though they're hated, most of the original Kitty Krew members are awesome since I actually was in the KK years ago. Rad is a very close friend of mine as well, he's just a generally awesome dude and a great friend, one that I would have never met if I never joined NG, and plenty of others I don't really feel like listing but they're there in my heart, lol. Without a lot of these people I probably wouldn't be as active as I am now, but yeah man."

Kogey:

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer?

Kogey:

"As far as forums go they're the reason I still hang out on NG for the most part, years back I would always participate in "Photoshop (insert stuff here)" threads and had a great time with those, I also had a very popular thread in the gaming forum about Garry's Mod screenshots that's been somewhat active since 2008 which is neato cool beans. But for the most part I love the forums and the discussion/bullshit is what keeps me coming back to NG."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Kogey:

"Depends, I've had a rockey past with Malachy and Poozy, but for the most part the mods are pretty awesome, reasonable people that I can see myself getting along with with no issue at all. It's funny, I got banned by Malachy at one point for saying the word "Faggot" and the reason for the ban was "Homophobic comments" when I'm gay and I wasn't calling anybody a faggot directly."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Kogey:

"Hey, if I could I'd probably be a forum mod. I get to have all the autistic power I want! But in all seriousness being a forum mod would be pretty cool considering I've been around for a while and know what the rules/guidelines/other shit is for the most part. Fear the furry moderator! That or an Audio mod since I love making music and stuff, but I'm far more active on the forums than I am on the audio portal so I guess it would make more sense in that aspect."

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

Kogey:

"Personally, I loved the old NG design. Back in 2004 it was just so futuristic looking, and all the funny ads for anime porn was hilarious. But of course as any member pre 2007 all the past designed were better because we look at everything through rose-tinted glasses. I occasionally go onto the wayback internet archive to give myself a nostalgia kick and go "DAMN, I MISS THIS". But if anything as I'm about to elaborate on below, I prefer the 2007 redesign over anything, that was my favorite of all."

The last redesign happened 2012. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Kogey:

"Personally, I prefer the 2007 design over the current one. It just had such a good feel to it, the new design just feels kinda bleh. Its workable and I like it, but I just highly prefer that awesome Newgrounds feel that I just don't get with the current theme. That and BRING BACK ANIMATED USER IMAGES, I miss my bot image! But yeah, all in all I'm not a fan of it. I don't mind it, but I don't like it much."

You are a furry. How did you become one and does it affect your life?

Kogey:

"I became a furry I guess when I was a child, I've always had a deep interest for anthropomorphic characters and when I got a high speed internet connection I found numerous communities out there who have similar interests/feelings that I do. So I guess that's what classifies me as a furry. Doesn't really effect my life much, I would love to get a fursuit some day but those are big bucks. I however met my boyfriend through a furry community whom I've been with for over a year now, and couldn't be happier. He is the love of my life and wouldn't have found him if I wasn't a furry, so I guess that's something to be grateful for. Love you, Ryan <3"

Back in 2011, your neighbors house burned down completely. Talk about this incident in detail and what feelings you had on that day.

Kogey:

"Right, well it happened at around 12:00 AM, I remember getting evacuated from my home by the fire department because they were afraid it would actually catch my house on fire. It was my neighbor, Harry. It was a triple decker house, however only the first floor was done. Apparently he had been doing renovations on the second floor (which had no electricity) so it did it by candle light. Well he left those candles lit and took a nap and suddenly flames. The house was completely demolished early 2012, I actually have a video of the house burning down and an interview with a neighbor who used to live in that exact house while she was a kid. I'll drop a link to that interview here.

It sucks but my feelings are pretty mutual on the situation, what's done is done and he made a bad decision with what he did which ended in flames."

You are/were a member of the Kitty Krew. When did you become a member? Do you think that the fading presence of groups like the Kitty Krew and Clock Crew is hurting Newgrounds?

Kogey:

"A bit on the hurting part, I really miss the KK of 2007, when I joined it was just so fun to be apart of, we would spam our own boards with bullshit and then make silly flashes and throw em on NG, watching the hate flow through everybody just because we were the kitty krew. We need more crews submitting shitty flash and having fun, it seems like internet videos of today are just about views and money, not about making them and enjoying the content being created."

You play guitar. When did you learn to play a guitar and how many guitars do you currently have? Who is your favorite guitar player?

Kogey:

"Well I used to play guitar. That was ages ago and I kinda stopped doing so. I actually got more into playing piano/synth more and own a midi keyboard, which is how I make most of my current music. I loved guitar, but I just feel more comfortable playing keys. I've actually tried playing guitar again recently and it's just not happening, might go for more lessons but again I feel more comfortable on a piano. But my favorite guitar player is easily Steve Vai."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Kogey:

"Oh boy, that's a tough one. Well I guess I can share my deepest and darkest secret. I still sleep with my baby blanket, not because I'm a babyfur or shit like that, but it's more of a comfort thing. For some reason I get comfort from sleeping with it and it actually helps me sleep as well, without it I can't sleep for shit at all."

What can we expect from you in the future, Kogey?

Kogey:

"Most likely more music, I love making music even though I'm not very good at it, I just occasionally open up FL studio and get some melodies out of my head, I should post more to NG but I'm just too lazy. I've also wanted to pick up flash again so I might actually make some crappy animations in the future assuming that I'm not the lazy ass that I am. But I'd love to submit more content on NG and eventually hit the 10,000 post club on the forums. Soooo yeah."
