Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user NeutralObjections.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username NeutralObjections?

NeutralObjections:

"I found Newgrounds around 2005. Being the prepubescent that I was, I really enjoyed watching cartoon battles, as they opened up a field of enjoyable violence that reality could not. So I stumbled upon one of user matt-likes-swords' first flashes: FF Battle. After watching and throughly enjoying it, I then found this remarkable site that had hundreds of videos just like it and more. So after lurking for about a year I joined in 2006 under the Username GenArmegeddon (short for General Armageddon, with a glorious typo.) Under that username I created a dreadful flash, and made narrow-minded reviews and forum posts that I still cringe at when I read them today. I was new to Internet culture back then. I had no idea how it worked or how people acted in it. The term "troll" was not even feasible concept for me. I probably started some vicious flame wars. After I while, after watching some really great flashes and some encouragement from my friends, I wanted to try voice acting, but I felt as if my account was tainted with "sins" from the past, so I started a new one. NeutralObjections comes from both my self-mantra of being mostly neutral during confrontations, and my adoration of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. The name just rolled off the tongue well!"

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

NeutralObjections:

"As a user definitely. My forum posts and involvement in the site have become more mature for sure, and instead of just lurking and reviewing, I'm getting into voice acting and creating audio skits in the Portal. I have a few ideas I can't wait to get off the ground. In real life...? Well, to be honest, it's made me a tad bitter at times. Perhaps it's the internet as a whole, but I spend most of my online forum time on Newgrounds. I'm a moderately optimistic guy in real life, and a lot of the users on NG are filled with a lot of hate or unnecessary rage. Whether or not those people are trolling or being honest, participating in the forums gets me down sometimes, even to the point where I decided to take a hiatus from site. But don't get me wrong, I love the NG community and I respect and admire a lot of users, and my time on Newgrounds has made me more internet savvy and ready to check my sources before believing something."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

NeutralObjections:

"llssm is a probably my best NG friend. I have worked with him on a few of his projects and he often sends me some of his private work to see if it's decent... and it is quite decent indeed. He left Newgrounds a while ago, and I'm glad to say he just came back recently. I really enjoy yurgenburgen, just because I find him so interesting. While I doubt he even acknowledges my existence, he always provides insight on forum posts as well as some angry snark that I have found myself laughing at. He also is sort of an enigma, and I wouldn't mind learning more about him. Although I could probably find out all I need by reading his 10,000+ posts.JBKalso is pretty rad as well."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

NeutralObjections:

"As I said, I like to remain neutral, especially with internet confrontations, which in my opinion go nowhere fast and never solve anything. So, no. I don't hold any true grudges or have any true enemies. Have I disagreed with some users? Yeah. Have I noticed that some user's sole existence is to be a fucking pest to the entire community and never contribute anything valid or worthwhile? No names, but yes."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer?

NeutralObjections:

"I primarily go on general, and rarely stray away from there unless I need some help with audio or want to find out some info on new games. Despite the complaints, I enjoy the forums. Granted, not everything is very funny, and a lot of posts are just dumb, but bottom line, people here are fun to converse and share ideas with."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

NeutralObjections:

"I would say they do a decent job. I wouldn't really know, I haven't been under the thumb of any of the moderators, except for the one time I posted a snarky comment on a post I knew was going to be deleted and Poozy banned me for "adding to the garbage"... or something like that. For the most part, I think they manage the trash pretty well on the forums. While terrible threads manage to slip through every now and then, the majority end up getting the banhammer. As it should be."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

NeutralObjections:

"I wouldn't mind. Would be an intriguing position to have. If I was a mod, I hope it would be a forum moderator. I'd like to help clean up the forums of trolls and poor threads. That kind of responsibility would be a cool thing to posses for once in my life. And while I wouldn't dream of abusing my power... I've always had an evil fantasy of banning some punk."

The redesign 2012 has arrived earlier this year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

NeutralObjections:

"I'm a fan of the redesign. I love the slick new look and the original artwork that adorns the background of each section of the site. How could you not love it? It's just plain eye-candy. The addition of chat (despite being featureless) is a fun time-waster and the tag system is a big improvement compared to the very basic search engine we had before... That being said, the search engine is still flawed. I'll search for a specific flash from 2009 and still end up with Gary's Hentai Rape Party 6. As for the front page... nothing major, but I do miss having Tom's commentary on the side of each front page flash. The rollover description just doesn't have the same effect for me like the good old days. That's just nostalgia, however. The redesign is a great step in the right direction for the site, and can't wait to see what other features Tom and the crew might add. If any are ever added."

Judging from your signature, I guess that you are a fan of the Phoenix Wright games. Tell our readers what you like about the series.

NeutralObjections:

"To be honest, I found out about the series through AshfordPride's Phoenix Wrong sprite flashes here on Newgrounds. I had to know what all the fuss was about, and when I got the first game, I fell in love. The story, the vibrant characters, the dialogue, the epic music, and the satisfying thrill of contradicting the true culprit's lies. It's such a gem. My favorite character is probably Phoenix. Besides being bluntly hilarious and hardy as hell, he's had to make back-breaking moral decisions that really brought out his true character. As for my favorite case? I'm a big fan of "Recipe for Turnabout", simply because out of all the villains I put away, none were as satisfying as seeing Furio Tigre lose."

You participated in two flash movies as voice actor. Will you do more voice acting for Newgrounds flashes in the future? Is it something that you consider doing as job some day?

NeutralObjections:

"If I could be a voice actor for the rest of my life, I would die happy. It really is my dream job. Yes, I'm going to keep working at it here at NG and I hope I can become a regular for voice acting. As of current I am looking for any kind of voice acting work."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

NeutralObjections:

"Wow... secrets, huh? Well, in 6th grade I got suspended for making a website for my stupid little group at school that me and my friends made. I was punished because I had a page called"targets list", and the police thought I wanted to kill people. That was the first internet endeavor I ever embarked on, and in the end, I was glad I got caught, because I saw how much damage I was doing to those who were on the list. Needless to say, I never bullied anyone after that... or got suspended. Sorry if it's not that big of a secret, I suppose I'm not one for juicy inside stuff. Oh, and my mom caught me eating out my girlfriend once. Good times."

What can we expect from you in the future, NeutralObjections?

NeutralObjections:

"Depending on my schedule, some voice acting skits in the audio portal, some hopefully insightful or witty forum posts, and you might even hear my voice in a video or two. I'm aspiring to be a new anchor, or something similar. So maybe you might see my face on the dying form of media that is television someday. Either way, the future is looking bright. Woohoo."

Interview with NeutralObjections

Posted by Asandir - December 17th, 2012

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user e-lord.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username e-lord?

e-lord:

"It all began in early 2005, when some classmates introduced me to Potter Puppet Pals (the second one, I think. I remember they all shot Voldemort in it). They told me it was on a website called flashplayer.com (now freegames.1up.com), so I looked it up when I got home, and found a plethora of other classics, like the Decline of Video Gaming series (which needs a reboot), Final Fantasy Gil Quest, and, last but not least, claymations by knox. I grew so fond of knox that I began to check on his website, for updates as to when his next claymation was going to come out. As it turned out, he didn't just upload those movies onto flashplayer- they came to some site called Newgrounds first. I ventured into this strange new site, and found that it had a lot more content than flashplayer ever did, and had a forum, and an audio portal to boot. Four months after I discovered the site, I decided to sign up. Had a lasting, sometimes torrid affair with the site ever since. As for e-lord, well, I had never really thought of an alias before. I knew I wanted to have the letter "e" in it. "lord" sounded catchy, so I went with it. And yes, the "e" stands for something- but it's a secret of sorts. I want it to be ambiguous. For those of you who know what it stands for, stay hush-hush on the subject, yeah?"

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

e-lord:

"Well, it'd be pretty sad if I hadn't changed after all these years, now wouldn't it? It used to be style over substance with me- I couldn't take you seriously if your grammar was incorrect, or you didn't use proper punctuation. Not that I was anybody to be taken seriously myself- I was a shitty-ass poster. Arguably, I still am, but less so. So yeah, I've grown up, gotten to know myself better, the whole shebang."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

e-lord:

"Despite my hostile-sounding list titled "bbs users i actually don't hate," I really like a lot of users. I played this private messaging game called BlessedSin, which Revo created, and it let me get to know a lot of other users. Namely, Lionelion, Beardkiller, Laughingbox, Satanbrain, and Spretznaz. I chat with them on a nightly basis. Great group of people. I chat with them every night, where we continue to play text-based RPGs that we all make, like the fucking nerds we are. Then, there's newgrounds chat. I have my own circle of friends, though they haven't been visiting chat as much, recently. There's BrazilianNinja, SaltShakerClock, Amaranthus, Boomstick, TheMajorMel and HomicidialFrog. Other people that aren't so bad include, Yenmuffin, Gagsy, 24901miles and KillerSkull. There are two special chat users, though... Mumbo and TailsPrower. They're two of my "lovers," you see. I used to cyber with Mumbo all the time, and I flirt with TailsPrower when we're both on there. People may judge, but I don't give a fuck, who wants their opinion anyway? But yeah, they're both really awesome guys. Oh yeah, and there's Rhinocerider, my apparent long-lost little brother. We talk about our quests and adventures via skype. I should write an anthology, containing all of our tales. We'll make millions."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

e-lord:

"Yeah... pretty much everyone on newgrounds chat that I didn't mention above. That, and pretty much everyone on the Newgrounds BBS. They're either morons or just obnoxious. There are exceptions, but for the most part, yeah. There are so many +1ers out there who only care about getting into the fabled 10k forums, rather than actually making sure that these posts are worth reading. Few of them have patience to read more than a few sentence, and make a considerate reply. Worst of all are the people who complain about how the BBS wasn't as good as it once was. The BBS was always this way- your perspective just changed as you grew older. That's the sad truth of the matter, and few people realize that. The ones who do, often end up leaving."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

e-lord:

"I used to frequent the shit out of General, occasionally posting in the Video Games forum. Now, though, since I have school and everything, I don't do much on the bbs. I'll check out userposts, though of my favorite users. As for the forums in general, look at my answer above. When it's filled with people like that, it's really not worth it. As for another forum user? I dunno, man. I would say SaltShakerClock or BrazilianNinja but they're chat users, really. A SatanBrain and Beardkiller interview would be cool, though. If those two don't sound good, go with the former two."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

e-lord:

"I don't know if it's due to my seniority or not, but mods have been much less strict than they have been, which is probably a good thing- corrupt mods are off-putting to new users. Not like we have a lot of those here, though, due to all the circlejerking. I'm guilty of it too. I don't care much for Back-From-Purgatory. I think that he (or she) is very seasoned with general. I've scanned his/her posts. They're all in the audio forum. He/she has had no experience with general, and is not fit to moderate it, especially since she is responsible for almost all of the threads being locked on newgrounds. It's almost as off-putting as the circlejerking."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

e-lord:

"I'd be a corrupt mod, one who would abuse my powers and ban everyone online, no new threads would be made, no one would be able to post, and it would all be silence, forcing every user to reflect on the shit they've mindlessly created, being forced to bathe in their own idiocy and depravity. "THE DAY THE BBS STOOD STILL." I'd probably get unmodded after a stunt like that. Or not. But yeah, I wouldn't be a "good mod" like Timmy or Dean. As for being a chat mod, I dunno. I'd probably do the same thing, ban everyone except my friends, so it's all just one big government-enforced circlejerk. It wouldn't be Newgrounds chat anymore- it'd be e-lord's chat. As for any other kind of moderator, I'm just disinterested in that. I'd be even less qualified than a chat mod or a forum mod."

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign

e-lord:

"Shit. When the redesign came about, everyone was freaking out. Due to all the new content, Newgrounds was running slower on everyone's browsers, the servers filled to capacity with everyone who wanted to see what the brave new world was going to be like. The review system was dumbed down, I remember that. There used to be different categories you could rate, in addition to the overall score. You could rate the humor, interactivity, violence, sound, and a couple other things. I don't remember, honestly. You could really judge a user by the quality of his reviews, the attention he or she put on the individual qualities. But, alas, no more. Also, chat ceased to exist for the longest time. Newgrounds has a history of saying "we're working on it," without ever actually finishing it. I think after a couple years it started working, though. Still, though, everything looked newer, more modern, userpages began to exist. You could express yourself better. The PM system was also much more fleshed out than it was when it debuted the previous year. They also added more secrets, more forums, more everything. Oh, and they got rid of pop-up ads and the hentai ads. Yes, kids, Newgrounds used to have pop-up ads before the redesign 2007, true story. It was a good update."

The redesign 2012 has arrived earlier this year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

e-lord:

"Well, it seems to be choking newgrounds to death. Ever since that redesign happened, the servers now crash frequently. Chat is operational, everything looks pretty again but it felt unnecessary. I mean, there is something to say about making your website aesthetically pleasing, but I'm not sure it all needed to happen. People didn't seem as excited about this one as they were about the 2007 one. The record for most forum users online still stands as the one set by the one in 2007. Maybe people just aren't as excited about newgrounds anymore. More on that later."

You and some users formed a group named Expendables. Tell our readers how you got the idea and what you were doing.

e-lord:

"Oh yeah, that was a blast. Protagonist was the founder of the whole "fad" idea. It started with the Reservoir Dogs theme a while back, in which everyone edited their userpage and icons in order to emulate a particular character. Boomstick was Blonde, Natick was Pink, etc. So, Protagonist decided to do another one. People voted for the next pick, and the Expendables was chosen. I called dibs on Statham, so I got to be him (still am him, lol). We didn't have a real reason for doing this, other than that it was fun to be a part of something with people who share a similar interest."

The Halloween layout has arrived. Do you like it and are you looking forward to experiencing Halloween on Newgrounds?

e-lord:

"Gotta love Halloween! It's like a Newgrounds tradition to have revamp Halloween. It wasn't terribly spooky for my liking. After all, Halloween should be intimidating and scary to some extent. But then again, it might turn off some people, make them scared to come on the site and click the support newgrounds button (which I will do this holiday season). Also, those new level icons were cool. I'm not sure if they did it last year, since I wasn't actively browsing newgrounds, but they were damn sexy. I almost wish that they were the permanent icons, if the current ones weren't so cool too."

Newgrounds has been a part of your life since 2005 and its competitors like Youtube have become very succesful. Do you have ideas how Newgrounds could reach the next level and (re)gain more popularity?

e-lord:

"When I first found Newgrounds in Fall 2005, YouTube was barely a thing. I mean, it existed, but it's not the juggernaut of a video-sharing service that it is now. So, there's more of an interest in Flash animations and games. I mean, Newgrounds started some controversy with Telebubby Fun Land, and Pico's School, and is the original website of Numa Numa. The beginning of the end was Charlie the Unicorn. It was uploaded on Newgrounds first, then was shamelessly stolen on YouTube, where it became a household name among Internet users. I got mad at people whenever they referenced that flash, when they weren't familiar with the Tankmen. It was all downhill from there. I mean, ask some one my age what it was like before YouTube and movie sharing. They'll come up short. They don't remember anything before the insidious YouTube coup d'etat. You can do so many things on YouTube that you can't do on Newgrounds, like, upload anything other than a Flash movie. Newgrounds took a step in the right direction with the YouTube-esque menu screen, like the one you see in Hellbenders, but that isn't quite enough. The only way I can see Newgrounds regaining the relevance it once had is if it became YouTube, getting rid of the blam/protect system, and allow anyone to upload videos of any kind, while allowing Flash games to be submitted, in order to have the upper hand against Youtube. Of course this would mean getting bigger servers and spending money that Newgrounds just doesn't have, not to mention destroy what Newgrounds was supposed to be- a Flash Portal. It'll be the death and rebirth of Newgrounds, and there's no guarantee it'll last. I know it's bleak, but Newgrounds might not live on off of ads and supporters alone anymore."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

e-lord:

"I look at Rotten Tomatoes religiously. Like, if a movie doesn't get a good score from good RT, then I won't watch it. If a movie previously looked uninteresting to me but got good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, then I'll watch it. it's almost always accurate in determining which movies are worth seeing and which aren't. Seriously, I'm a fucking zealot. I probably need counseling."

e-lord:

Interview with e-lord

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Halberd.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Halberd??

Halberd:

"I found Newgrounds at school when I was nine years old looking for flash games to play. My favourite games were Madness games and tower defense games. Me and my brother made an account at home in 2007 when were ten years old but I wanted to have my own account so I made this one under the name of FurryDemon. I still remember the moment I picked that name. At the end of 2011 I got Tom Fulp to change the name to Halberd because I thought it was a more appealing name and I wanted people to stop mistaking me for a furry and talking shit to me (SAY IT TO MY FACE AND NOT ONLINE MOTHER FUCKERS !!!!!!)"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Halberd:

"I went through puberty and matured a lot, both online and in real life. I'm still an introvert in real life and on the internet. I tend to agree with people too much which I really gotta change. I'm also a very immature poster who can't articulate his opinions very well. That is also something I'd like to change."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Halberd:

"When I first started posting on the BBS there were a lot of users that influenced me and my posts but unfortunately I've forgotten most of them. Lost-Chances, Gagsy and Sensationalism are really cool users and I've loved their posts since I first went on the forums. More recently my favourite users are Skaren, AnonymousOfCali, Jester, Sekhem, Spirit, HomicidialFrog (even though his threads are shit and everyone hates him) yert, cast, KillerSkull and tons more who I've probably left out Q___________Q"

Halberd:

"I have no enemies on Newgrounds but some users can be really shitty sometimes. Insanctuary and Xenomit for obvious reasons, and Travis and Richard because of their argumentative/dickish posts. I should stress though that its just the internet and you lose at it when you get mad at other people."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer?

Halberd:

"I think the Newgrounds forum is a unique place where as long as you aren't too stupid or too smart you can enjoy it. Its sad to see it decline in popularity in recent years. Sometimes I go on the C&C section, political section and video games section. I wish more people posted in the video games forum. I wonder if they'll merge the general forum and video games forum if the NG forum keeps losing users."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Halberd:

"I think they do a good job and I have no complaints about them. If it was pre-2012 then I would probably be complaining. The mods were nazis before then. Or maybe I was just a bad poster back then."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Halberd:

"I don't have the interest or skill to be a moderator for any of the portals and I have no interest or the right qualities to be a forum mod. I'm not really intelligent enough and I don't really have the self confidence/heart for it. I won't say its impossible though."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The redesign 2012 has arrived earlier this year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Halberd:

"Both have ups and downs...I liked the colours and design of the old one more and I loved the emphasis on level icons but I like having my own changeable forum icon and all the other various improvements added."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Halberd:

"I can't think of any secrets (though I probably have some repressed from my memory right now) but my STEAM account if anyone reading is interested is steamcommunity.com/id/skittlesmonkey and I like to play TF2 when I should be doing homework."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future, Halberd?

Halberd:

"More NG BBS posts definitely. I can see myself sticking around for a long time unless I die or become homeless though if the latter happens I'll go to the local library to access Newgrounds. I might also submit avant garde (spam) flash animations though the last time I did that Wade Fulp deleted it for 'hardcore pornography' (i.e he's fucking retarded and doesn't understand it at all)"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user SneakyGameBoy.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username SneakyGameBoy?

SneakyGameBoy:

"I found Newgrounds back in 2005 and it was actually by accident, I was on some website that obviously stole some original NG games like "Pico's School" and "Madness Interactive" and stumbled into Newgrounds. If I didn't go on that website, that ripped off NG's games I don't think I would ever discover this awesome website. I recently made my account in 2008 because around the time I didn't think I was ready to make an account because I didn't feel mature enough to go on and post stuff on BBS or make reviews. Though around the time I didn't really care much about my account so mostly my little brother was on it and post random crap on the BBS. Today he's no longer using my account. :D"

SneakyGameBoy:

"Oh yeah, definitely. Growing up I became more social with people. As well on the BBS I post more maturely (sometimes). When I first started on this website I kinda overdid the memes a weeeee bit too much resulting me getting banned...alot. So I kinda realized that overdoing memes like "OVER 9000!!!!!" or "THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!" or even "System32" can make you look like a total ass."

SneakyGameBoy:

"Well usually, I don't go out and say "I LOVE THIS FUCKING THIS USER!"but There's a couple of users I like on here who are pretty chill like Asandir that dude is pretty cool and Back-From-Purgatory who is the most fairest mod I know on the BBS."

SneakyGameBoy:

"Yeah. I just forget about them because they are really not worth my time to deal with."

SneakyGameBoy:

"I like the forums and I think they are well organized. I just wish more people were on Video Games Forum more... :("

SneakyGameBoy:

"I think mods should spend time on other forums instead making General the only place to mod around. Usually there would be one or two mods on some days. How I see it they should mod some more people who are on more and mature enough to have that kind of power and assign them to a permanent forum to moderate, but who am I kidding? That will never happen. It seems like today some mods barely go on NG anymore."

SneakyGameBoy:

"Wasn't really thinking about becoming one on here. I don't especially don't like the idea of locking threads or banning people and get tons of hate messages for doing your job. I can see it being really annoying for me."

SneakyGameBoy:

"I love it. Its totally a great new look for this site and everything is well organized. Some people hate changes when it comes to redesigns on this site, but for me I'm all up for change."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Halloween happened recently. Do you like the Newgrounds layout, especially the level icons?

SneakyGameBoy:

"I love the layout art. NG staff really knows where to find great artists on here, and I always love the level icons that NG comes out with. You'll never know what type of level icon design you'll get around the holidays."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You have chosen the original gameboy as your user icon. Tell our readers what you like about handheld consoles and about some favourite games of yours.

SneakyGameBoy:

"I grew up playing handhelds like Gameboy Color and Advance, SP you name it I played all them. I love handheld devices because you can take it wherever you go and if you're bored you can always get out your Nintendo DS and get back to beating that boss that you've been trying to beat for two weeks. My favorite games of all time are: Super Mario Bros. 2 Donkey Kong Country Super Mario 64 Donkey Kong 64 Perfect Dark GoldenEye 007 Halo 1 Halo 2 And I can keep on going but I'm going to stop here because I love too many games."

2012 is nearing its end and I want to know which game that was released 2012 is your favourite?

SneakyGameBoy:

"Mass Effect 3 has to be my most favorite of 2012. Despite of its disappointing ending and later on came with a free extended ending for closure for the fans and me I still loved every single minute of the game."

I think you read comic books. Which one is your favourite series?

SneakyGameBoy:

"My most favorite comic book series is Bone by Jeff Smith. The series is extremely underrated and I think it should get more praise."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

SneakyGameBoy:

"Well lets see...I don't think I told anyone about my race but I guess I will say it now...I'm black. Yeah...didn't expect that did you? Did you!?"

What can we expect from you in the future, SneakyGameBoy?

SneakyGameBoy:

"Well I'm really into acting and it will soon become a big hobby for me when I graduate high school so I guess you should expect me on TV or on a movie one day. When that day comes I'll be sure to give Newgrounds a big shoutout."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Interview with SneakyGameBoy

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Slint.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Slint?

Slint:

"I can't recall exactly, but I'm pretty sure it was when I was around seventh grade, which means around 2006. I used to come here often for games like Heist, which I then showed to my classmates and we all ended up playing them in computer class. I'm not sure why I joined, since I had never been to the forums, but I'm guessing it was for the levels, it looked cool. In the beggining I was zecampeao. Terrible name, in which Ze is my real name and campeao translates to champion. Slint came around when I matured a bit and realized how retarded and bad my name was and I opted for one which represents a band I love, and a name that is short, simple and looks cool."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Slint:

"Definitely. One needs only to go see my first posts. They make me look like a troll, but they were genuinely that bad. I was 12, so one can't expect much more. I started reading threads and tried to make good, helpful posts, do something for the community, until I spiraled down to my sarcasm-filled posts and ocasional decent ones. I also changed in real life, but NG did not play a part in it, I think the world here and the world outside are two different worlds for me and I like to keep them apart as much as I can."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Slint:

"There are several users that I really like, yeah, such as yurgenburgen, ZAAL, The-Great-One, saqwert, Boss, Bees [Twilight], Spirit [Picnic]. They are unique in their own way of posting and the BBS would be a lot worse if any of them left. Despite ZAAL not being in it as much as he used to, I still keep in touch via PM, so it's cool. They affect me each in a different way. Some make hilarious posts, some make me think in ways and in things like I have never done, others are just cool cats."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Slint:

"Enemies, no, that'd be ridiculous, getting an 'enemy' in an internet forum just because you don't like the guy. Users I don't like, sure, Xenomit should be obliterated from the BBS; mandog, thedark, jjjkuk are also terrible posters that bring down the overall IQ of the site."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Slint:

"I use barely exclusively General, apart from it I might have gone to How To once or twice, but that's it. I really like General. It's pretty fun, it has always been. There's always something to talk about there, it feels like you're on the center of something, like your part of whatever's happening right now in the internet. Sure, I'd love to see yurgenburgen interviewed (not sure if he has already been)."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Slint:

"Most of the time, yeah, they're pretty good at it. I don't usually bitch or get mad when I get threads locked or banned, because I deserve it 95% of the time. Still, I think poozy overdoes it. Yeah, there's a lot of butthurt going around with poozy, and some of it is actually justified. Other than that, the mod system is going pretty well."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator? You posted that as answer on the forums " sup wade u kno id be a gud mod and shit and ban ppl cause 2 many shitpost and that is unascepatble so u kno id ban them ok wad make me mod" :3

Slint:

"Hahaha, I see you did your background check on me. Even though I made that post jokingly, I wouldn't mind being a mod. Would I be a good one? At first I thought 'SURE', then I though 'fuck no', whereas now I think 'well, maybe...'. I'm fairly active, I can spot shitty threads, but I also make them, I love making those short two-sentence threads with song lyrics or some unfunny joke. I think they're important for the BBS, or else we'd be too serious. And the BBS has never been and shouldn't be serious."

The redesign 2012 has arrived earlier this year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Slint:

"Overall I like it. I really like the layout, the background, I'm glad they decided to keep the orange and black, the rearrangement of the portals, everything like that is great. There's two things I just can't get used to. The levels, for once, I don't like them at all. I loved the old ones, right now I'm using one of those scripts to stay with the old levels. Then there's the smileys. The old :D and the embarassed one can never be beaten. They were perfect, I'd change them back in a heartbeat."

Halloween happened recently. Do you like the Newgrounds layout, especially the level icons?

Slint:

"Yes I do. Halloween might the only time I'll consider disabling the script I mentioned to view the themed icons. These look pretty neat, they feel like a breath of fresh air. I love how the staff strives to keep changing and moving along the year."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future, Slint?

Slint:

"I'm planning on staying, that's for sure. I'm attempting to record some songs with my webcam's microphone, but so far they lack both in inspiration and in quality, so I guess we'll have to wait and see if something will come out of it. Besides that, my presense on the forums. I never got bored in there. The moment I get, I'll leave. ...leaving behind a shitty goodbye post and coming back two days later."

Interview with Slint

Posted by Asandir - November 19th, 2012

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview is a little bit different than the usal stuff. I am glad to present you an interview with the the creator of TheInterviewer, The-Great-One. In this interview, he will answers as member of TheInterviewer, as user The-Great-One and as Dohn, the person behind the username.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Questions about TheInterviewer:

TheInterviewer has interviewed many of Newgrounds greatest artists and even Tom Fulp himself. Do you think that TheInterviewer has become an important part of Newgrounds history by showing us more about Newgrounds most outstanding members?

TheInterviewer:

"No I don't think it is part of Newgrounds history. It is more of an archive of the famous artists and members of Newgrounds. Will it become a part of Newgrounds history someday? Maybe, but it's still got a long way to go for that."

In the beginning, you were the only member of TheInterviewer. Did you find it difficult in that time to keep up regular releases? Who joined you first and how did it change the way you work on the interviews?

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

TheInterviewer:

"At the start of The Interviewer there were no real schedule release dates. I just came across an artist or member. I check my list of suggestions and go from there, and when it was up it was up. Now I am on a schedule. Ryanson was the first to join, I invited him on and he had a different style than I did, which I not only like, but believe it to be better than mine."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

For a short time, your interviews were featured in a box on the frontpage, nicely visable for many users. Did you notice that more users read your interviews in that time? Would you like to see a comeback of the featured content box?

TheInterviewer:

"The Interviewer did get more readers with that box, I would love to see it come back, because not only did it help out in getting the interviews more known, it introduced a lot of Newgrounds to some newer games and movies. It was pretty great."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

One thing that I noticed is that we often have a one-dimensional view of other users and that interviews help to get a glance of the person behind the username. Can you recall one user where you experienced this?

TheInterviewer:

"Every user I tend to find out something new about them, to go behind the username. An example of this would have to be AlmightyHans. On the site he seems very chipper with nothing that really effects him, but he has had troubles in his past and to read his work on The Ballad of CrippleKane was not only a bit sad, but inspirational at the same time."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Questions about The-Great-One:

You were voted as best poster for the NG mid-years awards 2012. How did you feel winning this award?

The-Great-One:

"Didn't know the thread would be gone, the flash still stands though. It was a shock that I won Best Poster, because I also won Master Creator. I think of myself as a decent poster, however I barely made any threads so how I got Master Creator I'm not sure. The Mid-Year Awards I don't care for, but it is all in good fun. It's the General Forum Awards... so that should tell you all you need to know about that. Still General forum is a stupid fun place to be."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The Underground is a series of threads that you created about video games. Tell me one discussion that you especially liked.

The-Great-One:

"It is got to be My Shiny Trophy Has Been Spiked. We do need better quality awards shows for video games so we can honor and respect those who put their heart in soul into the video games that they make. We do have some great video game awards shows, but they're not given the attention that they deserve."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Some people say that video games have changed from high-quality games with nice gameplay to soul-less massproducts with nothing but fancy graphics. Do you share this point of view? Did you experience a change in video games?

The-Great-One:

"I do not share that point of view, because it is pretty shallow to say the least. Some franchises have turned to this, because the fans of those franchises have turned them from art to supply and demand and the developers don't want to branch out to other factors. There has always been a change in video games, it is a growing art form. Super Mario Galaxy changed the landscape for Mario, Bioshock brought us something entirely new, Resident Evil 4 was amazing, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare hit a lot of us pretty hard in what could be done with an army game. There is a mainstream shovelware aspect present, but it's not as big as a lot of people are making it out to be."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You have reviewed a fair amount of Newgrounds flashes. Which flash is the most outstanding that you have seen and reviewed?

The-Great-One:

"Well I have a list of movies and games that I consider perfect, it's called the Masterful List. I used my review terms to review each one and in my eyes these are perfect. However at the time of this interview the best movie I have reviewed has been Redhand. Just seeing all of these different Newgrounds members come together to make this epic stick figure movie is just brilliant. From beginning to end I enjoyed every bit of it and was just astounded at the amount of work it must have taken to bring this together."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Questions about Dohn:

You were raised as christian, today you consider yourself an atheist. I would like to know how this happened and how it changed your view on life.

Dohn: "At one point in my life I was doing inhalants because it was a cheap way to get high and I almost committed suicide. I turned my life over to Christianity. As I got older though I was really starting to question myself as well as others around me and I was having suicidal thoughts again, I was wondering why God wasn't answering me. It was then I started to think about my life more and more and realized that nobody was listening to me, nobody was there, it was just me... that was when I became agnostic. I started to look more into my religion and decided to look at what the other side was saying since it was always kept out of my household. I decided to look into evolution and read the bible some more. As scientists kept testing its theory of evolution and kept studying it, they came closer and closer to it being fact with better technology and more information. The bible still just stood there with nothing but men and women trying to force it onto people with really nothing to back itself up with. The bible contradicted itself on many different levels and doesn't stay consistent. It is a 2,000 year old book that doesn't stand up today. As I looked more and more into my religion I found that I just couldn't believe a lot of it on faith alone and that is when I became an atheist."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

On February 5th 2012, you came out as an open bisexual. How did the people close to you react to it? How did you experience the time where you felt the need to keep it as secret?

Dohn:

"I came out here on Newgrounds first to some of my closer friends and they were okay with it, very supportive. Then I came out in the Gay/Bi Club and MLP Crew here on Newgrounds and both were supportive as well. It felt good. Then I came out to my brother and one of my closest friends and they were accepting of it. My brother had a feeling and my closest friends found it a bit surprising. I still have to keep it a secret from my family and some people around me, because I am from South Carolina, within the bible belt. My family are not very accepting of atheists, homosexuals, and black people, so it can be a bit of trouble. My father especially, it gets scary when I hear him saying we should beat atheists and gays or run them out of this country."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Breast Cancer awareness month is approaching. You actively promoted it in the past and I guess you will do you this year too. May I ask you if there was a case of cancer in your family?

Dohn:

"Yeah I am going to re-write the article for this year. I have had family members who have died of cancer, I don't think any of them have died due to breast cancer. Cancer is still cancer though no matter how you look at it, so I am thinking of broadening my article for this year that way it can be more year round."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Lastly I want to know, what can we expect from you in the future, as member of TheInterviewer, The-Great-One and Dohn.

Dohn:

"From The Interviewer, more interviews. From Dohn, more educational information and other forms of interviews through Somber Pensive. From myself, well I would like to get back to creative writing or directing if an animator would like to pick me up. I am looking to do some things on YouTube in the future though."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

And so you got to know a more personal side about The-Great-One. We should never forget that there is always a real person behind a username. Feel free to leave a comment here, saying what you think about the interview, requesting users to get interviews is also appreciated. Tune in next week :3

Interview with The-Great-One

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user YenMuffin.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username YenMuffin?

YenMuffin:

"Let's go back all the way to 2005. I was in 7th grade and one day a friend asked me if I had ever been to Newgrounds. I told him I hadn't and he quickly told me about the Dragon Ball Z hentai on the site which to be honest, was a turn off for me. At the time I was into Stick Page and enjoyed Madness Combat and Killing Spree and I wandered over to Newgrounds once very briefly to watch them. I didn't come back to Newgrounds until late 2006 when I had started high school. A friend and I were bored one weekend and Newgrounds just randomly popped into my head and that's when it began. In fact I officially started visiting Newgrounds on Halloween. I was 14 when I joined; believe it or not YenMuffin isn't my first account. I originally was GreenShadow but I started playing Gaia Online because of an ad I saw here on the site in 2008. That's where I created the alias YenMuffin; it was random and holds little meaning to me. Later on I signed up as YenMuffin on Xbox Live and in 2009 decided to lock in the username here on NG. I chose YenMuffin originally because at the time of creation I was really into LazyMuffin's work and Yen was the first random thing to come to mind when signing up for Gaia. During the 2 year span that I was inactive I decided to abandon GreenShadow; oh and I forgot to mention GreenShadow wasn't original at all and I couldn't use it on Gaia that's why I made a new username in the first place. That my friends is how monsters are made."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

YenMuffin:

"I think I have changed over time as both a user and in real life. Newgrounds showed me new things and ideas, introduced me to a community full of talented and creative minds. My sense of humor since coming to Newgrounds has become broader and darker; I honestly don't know who I would be today without the influence of Newgrounds. The harsh and sometimes unforgiving words of the BBS helped me to become a better person when I was younger as well, even though that's arguable for some people."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

YenMuffin:

"You bet there is. BizzarroPMP is pretty cool, as well as JBK, KillerSkull, Klik and Nor. I play Xbox with Mumbo (who I want to smack sometimes) quite frequently and on occasion Jester. Jester is an awesome guy, in fact describing his awesomeness would take up too much space. On the forums I like saqwert, he's never serious and always manages to make me laugh. I feel like I'm leaving a lot of people out. Oh right, I almost forgot Jay. There are far too many users to keep up with. I have heard about this guy named Asandir though, but he sounds like a jerk."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

YenMuffin:

"Nope. There aren't any users that I consider enemies but some people I prefer not to talk to. I wouldn't give any names even if I could think of any. There are users I don't like but I don't bother to even remember their names. Some users do get on my nerves at times but I tend to keep extending the offer of being friends."

And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

YenMuffin:

"My opinion on the forums is a terrible one in which I will share with you, probably. Basically, every year the quality of threads and posts lowers. People will always complain about them, the end. Personally the forums were much better in my opinion even just a year ago; it seems now that everyone has that meme spreading thought process. They are constantly churning out the same thing with a slight twist to be funny. I can understand a spam thread here and there just to break up all of the seriousness but there is nothing serious about General in the slightest anymore. I sometimes break out to other forums like Video Games, C&C or Art, but very rarely. I tried to become active on Clubs & Crews but nothing there really interests me. I prefer General forum. I can't think of any forum user I want to see be interviewed that hasn't been already."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

YenMuffin:

"Some mods are good others seem kind of like, "Why bother?" As the forum mods go, ReNaeNae and TurkeyOnAStick seem to do a great job with the art forum. EyeLovePoozy and Timmy are great when they are on. Timmy seems like he would be pretty cool outside of being mod from what I've heard. I think Jay and Travis are also cool as non forum mods. The other million mods I don't have an opinion about."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

YenMuffin:

"I would be lying if I said I didn't want to be mod. Even if I lost my mod rank shortly after receiving it I think it would be nice to have the experience. I always thought forum mod since I hang out there frequently but that seems like a hassle so i'm not sure. If I thought really hard about it I might say portal mod but what do I know about anything? To be honest if I ever became a mod it would be a cold day in Hell for Newgrounds, I know I would be terrible at it. I don't think I would do nearly as much damage as Jester though."

The redesign 2012 has arrived earlier this year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

YenMuffin:

"Yes, yes it did. I wasn't active for most of the 2007 design and I don't remember the design prior to that so I have nothing to really compare it to. I like the new design. My complaints are about stupid little things. I hate that there isn't a list of levels on the site anymore at least not from what I've seen and it would be nice if the notifications for users your follow had an indication of new stuff. As far as browsing the site, it was difficult at first but I have gotten used to it."

YenMuffin:

"Is this question a trap? It seems I am more so everyday. The harder I try to not like it, the more I end up liking it. Had this interview happened earlier this year I would have said "No, i'm not a fan." How I became a fan is because of Mumbo. If you're reading this Mumbo so help me God, we better not meet in real life! Well anyway we play Xbox Minecraft together a lot because he's too poor to have nice things and as with all my friends we sit around and share videos with each other. He wouldn't watch my videos if I didn't watch his so he eventually got me to watch one of the 20 million fan videos that exist, next thing I know my recommended videos list is full up of ponies. After about a month they still wouldn't leave so I said to myself "Whatever, just watch it." That was a big mistake, not because I ever hated the show but I found the fan base to be insanely annoying and there are 50+ episodes. I like the personalities of the characters and the whimsical faces. Lol, whimsical makes me sound old. I have some pride left so being called a brony burns me worse than the Antichrist in a catholic church. It hasn't affected me really other than the fact that I feel never ending shame on a daily basis."

This a wild guess.... but I think you like muffins. Please share your favourite muffin recipe with us!

YenMuffin:

"I do like muffins, how did you guess? I won't share the actual full recipes but I will list you some of my favorites. I like banana nut, lemon poppy seed, apple, butter rum, cinnamon and raspberry cheesecake muffins. If you never had a butter rum muffin, you're missing out and you probably didn't have a childhood either."

YenMuffin:

"I don't really have any super dark secrets. I'm not a serial killer or a drug dealer even though I tend to joke about such things. My darkest secrets really aren't bad in comparison, I mean there's the whole MLP thing and then I would say that I like furry stuff. I try not to talk about these things though because it doesn't affect who I am and boy do people get pissed about either of those things. If the only person you ever met that was into furry was Xenomit, I'm sorry. I'm not trying to bash him but he seems like just a major stereotype to me."

YenMuffin:

"You can most likely expect nothing from me in the near future. Right after the near future though, you can expect stuff from me. It might be music or art or animation or anything really but in the meantime I will be chilling in chat or on xbox shouting racial slurs at my friends. I'm totally not racist by the way."

Interview with YenMuffin

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Klobb17.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Klobb17? I read that you want the inactive account Klobb deleted so you get the name.... did you ask yet?

Klobb17:

"When I was much younger, I would bug my older brother a lot whenever he was on the computer or had a friend over, sometimes both. Eventually I stopped bugging him and simply watched him play games with his friend on one website in particular, with its gold-and-black theme and "that tank logo". At the time I didn't know the name, but that was the first time I discovered Newgrounds. Skip ahead several years to 2007, and I'm on my own computer, looking up websites to join. I stumbled across Newgrounds again after searching up sites with Flash games, and recognized it as the site my brother visited. After playing a few games and watching some animations, I thought maybe I should make an account, so that I can save my favorites, rate them, and more. Then came the time for a username. At the time I was playing the game Goldeneye on N64, and my favorite gun in that game was the klobb. I figured "Klobb is a bitching name, I'll use that!". Then Newgrounds informed me that the username "Klobb" was already taken, to my dismay. Not about to give up on it, I threw in the number 17 at the end, for quite honestly no apparent reason at all, and stuck with that.

As for having the inactive account Klobb deleted and me taking the name... it sounded like a good idea at the time, but after giving it more thought, I have decided against it. Yeah, I regret not being able to choose the username I wanted, but I think that Klobb17 as a username has become a part of me, now. People know me as Klobb17, not just Klobb (although many a user just refer to me as that, regardless. Not that I mind). I use it on almost every other website that I join, have it as my Steam username, and even used it as my PlayStation Network name when I had a PS3 a single day, so changing it on one site could throw off those on another site. (Funny story: apparently some one other than myself already used Klobb17 for their PSN account. While I'm flattered someone would take my username, I was just as furious as well. So instead, I go by as The_Real_Klobb17 on PSN. That totally showed them! *shakes fist angrily*)"

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Klobb17:

"As a user? A little bit, yeah. Since I've started posting in the BBS, I've become a bit more mature and friendly, not as cynical or trollish, I make less spelling mistakes (as a bit of a perfectionist though I get mad at myself when I do make one today), and above all have lost my infatuation with the the metal genre, as well as mercenaries, as seen by my first few forum posts (looking back, I blame video games for that). But in real life, I've certainly changed a quite a lot. Back then, around when I started posting, I was just some loner in high school. I gradually become less of an introvert and warmed up to the few friends I had, though, and became more liked for it. Then came the time my mother decided, without any warning or even discussion, that we were moving from Florida to Missouri, where I used to live before escaping to Florida. I was absolutely pissed about having to move back to Missouri, where I don't have very many fond memories, but it wasn't my decision in the matter, so I had to move. Naturally I was extremely bitter, perhaps even hateful during the move, and that carried over when I started at my new high school, although I made sure to not show it. It didn't take too long though for me to make new friends, thanks to joining an airsoft club at the school and eventually befriending the club founder along with some of his own friends. Eventually I got over feeling mopey and moved on thanks to them, and became the more charismatic, outgoing kind of guy I am today (at least in real life). Sure, I regret not being able to graduate high school with my old friends, but it's not like I can change the past, so I have to move on."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Klobb17:

"Quite a few! The first one that I met and truly liked would have to be Nor. Unfortunately the little guy hardly comes here anymore, but he reminded me a bit about myself when I was younger. Along with him, I'm confident in saying that I have a handful of NG friends, them being KillerSkull, Protagonist, Shade, and tonypar16. KillerSkull is a guy who is good to joke around with, and is quite funny. He just has that vibe of friendliness that some people just don't have, and I imagine he'd be a swell dude to meet in real life. Protagonist is a fellow gamer, and is a rather level-headed guy. He's one of the few users on here that I can have a decent conversation with, although the fact that he doesn't like one of my favorite fighting games, BlazBlue, is a downer, but eh, no biggie. Shade too is also a fellow gamer, and one that I would sometimes play with on Xbox 360 before my Gold subscription ran out (*mumblegrumble...*). He knows how to have fun, even if I've say won 4 rounds in a row against him in Soul Calibur V, and if he's even frustrated about it, he's very good at hiding it. Not to mention he's rather talented at making characters in the same game, having made recreations of Samurai Jack, Aku, Skeletor, Rocky, and Ethan Thomas from Condemned 2, and even Steve from MineCraft (with and without diamond equipment), among others. He has some quirks about him, I'll admit, but he's still a cool person nonetheless. Then there's tonypar16. We were apparently supposed to be enemies over who Nor liked more, but that didn't last long as we figured being enemies over such a matter is just silly. His BBS posts are often amusing to read and can make me laugh at times. I honestly kinda see him like a little brother. Albeit a Greek brother that I only know through a website, but still. After that, we have users like Thedark that I enjoy talking to often, even though he's a bit too anxious for his own good. It's a shame he hasn't been online in quite a while. ImaTouko-Chan is also another amusing user that I interact with. Their manner of speech is confusing at times, I'll admit, but they do know how to have fun, and can be very nice. There's also BrokenPaw who, despite being an odd fellow, is quite amusing once you get to know him a little. Jester also deserves a mention, for some of his humorous posts, but can be quite serious when he needs to be. On a similar note, I'm also rather fond of Skaren, to be honest. I admire that when he's serious, he is a very mature poster who puts thought into his topics and responses, and when he isn't serious, he's quite the hilarious chap who isn't afraid of some ho-yay every once in a while. Lastly, there's Otto. We don't interact too much, but DAMN he has some awesomely viewtiful hair! If anyone feels like I left them out, do feel free to yell and insult me for not mentioning you."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Klobb17:

"None that I would consider as enemies. I'll admit, there's been a confrontation between me and the odd user here and there, but nothing that would warrant us a enemies, I think. Besides, I find it more to my advantage to stay on a users good side, not to be hated by them. It doesn't matter if someone is a furry, a brony, a gamer, an artist, or what have you, we should cooperate as fellow Newgrounders. There are a few users that give me a bad impression, mainly trolls and such, but it's never anything that needs too much attention, I think. I just try to ignore them if possible."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Klobb17:

"Although I tend to just lurk around every now and then, I do enjoy the forums of Newgrounds. I mainly stick to General and Video Games, since that's basically what I'm about. I don't care too much about politics, so I stay out of Political, and I have no business being in Animation. I do draw from time to time, but I don't think it's anything worth showing off, so I stick out of Art. I do lurk in Audio and Collab to see if anyone is in need of an amateur voice actor (to very little success, might I add). I'd have to say the Video Games is my preferred forum, since I am quite a huge gamer, and love discussing with other gamers. As for another forum user to interview, that's a tough one... Perhaps the user E-Lord would make for a good interview? He's been around for a while, and has quite a few forum posts under his belt. Not to mention he's also another member of the Expendables fad."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Klobb17:

"It varies from mod to mod, but overall they do a good job of keeping Newgrounds in line, as well as being helpful to users when need-be. Some of them are so active in the forums though that it's hard to see them as moderators. They just sometimes seem like typical everyday users, participating in topics, adding to conversations, and have a sense of humor."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Klobb17:

"I'm not against the idea. I have a little experience with being a mod (or just a helpful user, in general) for a couple of groups on deviantArt, so being one on Newgrounds doesn't seem so bad. I don't think I'm particularly active or known enough to be one though. If I was a mod, I'd probably be stuck with the General forum, or even the Chat, making sure things stay in line. I have to admit though, I'm probably too easy going to be a decent mod, so I don't see it happening anytime soon."

The redesign 2012 has arrived earlier this year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Klobb17:

"It's alright. I don't have any complaints about it, frankly. Definitely looks better visually, and seems much more organized than it was before. Sorry for not having much input, it's just never been something that stuck me as important."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Klobb17:

"I want to be a pilot. Not just for any aircraft, but for a fighter jet. Having divorced parents and moving back and forth across the country means that I've had to fly across the country a lot, and over time I've just come to love flying. While some may have a fear of heights, I welcome the high altitudes. Being up in the sky among the clouds is just a wonderful sensation for me. There's something about sitting in an high altitude aircraft moving at intense speeds, looking among the near-endless horizon with a clear blue atmosphere above me, and the earth far below, that is just calm and soothing for me. Thanks to my brother, I've also become a huge fan of flying games like Ace Combat. In those games, I tend to just go into a free-flight mode, pick my favorite aircraft (often the Su-47), and just fly around, taking in the sights from a cockpit view while the afterburners roar behind me. It's truly an experience that I dream of doing sometime in real life. Of course, having a lazy eye will make such a reality difficult to achieve. To be a pilot, you need some good eyesight, something I don't exactly have at the moment. Sure, I can focus my eye into place (a trick that freaks out a lot of people), but then I become extremely near-sighted, so there's that obstacle as well."

You and some users formed a group named Expendables. Tell our readers how you got the idea and what you are doing.

Klobb17:

"Pretty sure Protagonist is the sole reason it exists. He led the Reservoir Dogs movie group fad before this, I believe, so after that he had a poll for which fad would rule next. Out of the three choices, the movie "The Expendables" came out on top, and I took my place as Barney Ross, who was played by Sylvester Stallone. I don't think there's really much reason to us playing as characters from a movie, really. We're just fans who want to have fun, and like to dip into a bit of role-playing as well. I'm a huge fan of the movies, myself, and love the concept of a team of elite mercenaries basically kicking ass and taking names, and played by famous action movie stars, no-less."

What can we expect from you in the future, Klobb17?

Klobb17:

"Probably some more amateur voice acting if someone wants me to do it, be them friends or strangers. At some point, I'll submit art here, and eventually might try my hand at the Writing forum, or even the Writing portal if it's ever made. I have a myriad of characters to show and stories to tell, but it's just a matter of me getting off my lazy ass and making them. There's also a project I've been working on with a few buddies for some type of web-comic or flash series, although it's mainly just character drawings and a ton of written stuff on my part so far. I also plan on making a push dagger based off the Assassin's Creed logo soon, having already nailed down the concept for it, so you might expect to see that around here sometime as well (I wonder if WadeFulp will like it? He's a knife nut after all)."

Interview with Klobb17

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user hecticjon.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username hiddeninthecrowd?

hecticjon:

"I think I found Newgrounds around 2004 or 2005, when I saw that "Decline of Video Gaming" series on one of those websites that rips material from NG. I initially joined to have more "voting power", but I also decided to post some terrible reviews which should be deleted but most of them aren't. I'm not sure if I did it on purpose or not. As for my username, I didn't actually start with this name. I've told many people this, but I guess I'll tell it again now: my original username was "t3h_d3m0n" because I guess I was thinking of the dumbest name possible. I went through a few name changes before I chose hecticjon, and I honestly don't remember the origin of my name changes too much. This was before the username lock in March of 2007, so I guess I was mainly thinking "i'm gonna change mah username hurr durr". I most notably had the name HecticCircleCrap for about three years, but I after that I started to like this name better so I got it changed back."

* Changed his name to shitposter some weeks after the interview *

* Changed his name from shitposter to hecticjon later *

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

hecticjon:

"Oh, yes, definitely. I've graduated from high school, and I recently got married (yeah, I know 21 is a little young, but I have my reasons). I've also learned that it isn't funny to act like a massive idiot on the internet, no matter how anonymous you may be. I think I've also become much more of a calm person IRL, but if you've seen my posts I don't think you'd agree, haha."

hecticjon:

"Back in the "Transformice era", the summer of 2010, there was this spinoff forum for the "pros" of our Transformice room. And for some reason, that community still exists! So the main users I still keep in touch very often with happen to be part of that small, tight-knit community, including Tateos, Tetris (rip), level1isbest, and a few others whose NG names I don't remember, so sorry if I forgot you! I used to IM a few people too that are worth mentioning, including Luke and CapnCrunchDaPimp, who are both great people to talk to."

"Not really. I like to shake off stupidity so I don't go insane. I might have said Xenomit a while ago but I don't really mind him that much, to be honest. I know that Insanctuary guy's motives for those dumb psuedopsychology threads, so he doesn't bother me either since I know what he's doing, but I don't respect him for it or anything. Not even the MLP fans really bother me until they starting bringing it in to random place where it doesn't fit in the context at all, but that happens on YouTube more than Newgrounds."

"Taking what I said for the last question into account, I'd be okay with being a forum moderator unless we hit a point where mods are almost always on the General forum again. I would never express interest in being a mod unless something like this happens."

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

hecticjon:

"I really liked the old 2005 design for Newgrounds, and it's still my favorite one. The only two things I really didn't miss when the 07 design rolled around were manual depositing and those level icons that were ugly in comparison to the ones we had for 5 years."

The redesign 2012 has arrived earlier this year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

hecticjon:

"I don't have too many complaints for the new design, other than that it's lame that they took out the secrets. Now I don't have any incentive to deposit anymore because I can't get any of those naked Tom pics! Those weird pixel art level icons aren't so good but having a little avatar makes up for that. Newgrounds was pretty overdue for a redesign anyway. Besides, upgading entirely once every few years or so is better than the "make random changes every few months and don't tell anyone" route that more popular sites like YouTube and Facebook are taking."

Interview with hecticjon

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user ZJ.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Puddin64 and why did you change it to ZJ?

ZJ:

"I discovered NG in 2005 or so. I was a big fan of Randy-Solem's work over at VGDC and loved his "Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom" flashes. When the fourth one came out, I saw that Randy hadn't uploaded it to his website, but rather, some foreign flash website that I wasn't too familiar with. That website, obviously, was Newgrounds and after spending a lot of time watching silly Mario parodies and playing dirty dress up games, I decided to join the website in the summer of 2006 and fully enjoy the perks of membership. As a young kid with a love for video games and a growing appreciation for dirty humor and girls, this website was a Godsend for me. I chose the username PuddinN64 because that's the username that I've used on almost every website that I've ever joined. It's really just a combination of two things. The "Puddin" part was a childhood nickname that was given to me by some of my friends and the "N64" part was a reference to the Nintendo 64 video game system. You have to keep in mind that I was (and still arguably am) a huge Nintendo fanboy. I came up with that name when I was about 12 and have stuck with it ever since out of habit. As for changing the name to ZJ? No huge reason, I suppose. I just wanted a change of pace around here in 2011 and thought a username change would be cool. I asked Tom to change it for me and about two days later, he did. For those who are curious, the ZJ is supposed to stand for "Zachary John", which is my first and middle name."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

ZJ:

"Of course. I was 13 years old when I originally signed up for this website and was a lot stupider and more immature than I was right now (if that seems possible). I've gone through puberty and grown up a little bit, so I'm obviously not the same person that I was in 2006. I've kinda gotten over the novelty of seeing Mario kill people and swear and seeing naked anime girls, but have grown to appreciate the beautiful art and music that this website generates and am still finding new reasons to stick around. I think that as I've grown, so has my relationship with this website."

You have over 10.000 posts. What do you think about Newgrounds forums? Do you consider yourself as a forum regular?

ZJ:

"I like the forums and I definitely consider myself a regular. There's a lot of shit in there, but there's a lot of cool stuff going on, too. The trick is to just go in with an open mind and take things as they come."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there users that you like, and how do they affect you?

ZJ:

"Gosh, I have so many good friends on here that I talk to regularly that it's hard to list them all, but I'll try: Zachary, Jay, EJR, GoryBlizzard, BPremo, Timmy, The-Great-One, CosmicDeath, Grub-Xer0, Luis, ReNaeNae, Wade, EyeLovePoozy, SymbolCymbal, Tarah, Ryanson, and so many others (I'm sorry if I missed you, doesn't mean I don't love you). As for how they affect me? I'd say that they all just make this website a little bit better. I love having a personal level of contact with a lot of NG users."

ZJ:

"Travis and I have had our fair share of spats and I'll never forget my early squabbles with Blaze-Heatnix in the video games forum when I posted in there more frequently, but I really don't think I have any "enemies" on here. I find it silly to hate someone over the internet. At worst, they can only insult me via text or images. I just don't have enough time to hate someone who is probably sitting miles upon miles away from me."

ZJ:

"I wouldn't say "great", but I wouldn't say bad either. I don't think it's possible to have a perfect level of happiness with the moderation of this website, as people will always find a way to bitch about something, but I do find a lot of the mods to be missing as of lately. It's not really my business, but if I ran the show, I'd probably get some more mods on board and try to make them have an active presence again. I don't think it should be a revolving door for idiots to come in and fuck with things on the bbs or whatever, but I do think that having about 10 or so new mods in each area wouldn't hurt things. I mean, at worst, you could easily de-mod the losers, right?"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

ZJ:

"I'd like to be a mod, but I'd never ask for it. I wouldn't mind modding the bbs, portal, or chat. Those places are pretty cool and I've always thought that if I was going to spend so much time on this website, I might as well do something constructive with said time. Here's hoping that someday in the future, I'll have a chance to help out."

Note: ZJ became a portal mod shortly after sending me the answers and is doing an excellent job.

You witnessed the time before the first redesign as active user. Did you like the chances that the redesign brought to the site?

ZJ:

"I loved the 2007 Redesign. The new user icons were so much better than the old ones and so many little changes made this website so much easier to use. I'm sad that the chat took so long to come out and that we never got to see what it would like on the 2007-2012 design, but for the most part, I'm glad they changed it up. It was a good change for everybody, I feel."

The redesign 2012 finally took place. What do you think about it?

ZJ:

"The Redesign was awesome! Can't wait for the next one in 2017!"

Christmas will be there in a few weeks, a special time on Newgrounds. Are you looking forward to experience Christmas on Newgrounds?

ZJ:

"Sure. I love spreading holiday cheer with other NG users and what not. I've always had a lot of time to be on NG with Christmas vacations and what not happening. Not much to say other than that."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You have 11 flash submissions, and most of them are associated with Clock Day. What do you think about this special Newgrounds day?

ZJ:

"I like Clock Day. It gives users like me a chance to submit shit to the portal and have a good laugh about it while 5ing a bunch of crap and getting a ton of save points. I do think that the popularity of the holiday has gone down over the last few years, though. I guess the Clock Crew just doesn't have that much of a presence anymore as new users are probably ignorant to "B" and StrawberryClock. I hope the holiday doesn't go away anytime soon, but I can't say that I'm optimistic about its future."

You bought quite some stuff in the Newgrounds Store. Do you appreciate the possibility to buy merchandise from Newgrounds? Is there anything that you would like to be added to the store?

ZJ:

"I love supporting the website by buying stuff from it. I just wished that they would allow me to use PayPal to make some of my purchases because it's a real pain in the ass to use my credit/debit card to get the stuff. I guess it's still a work in progress. As for things that I would like to see in the store? I'd probably love to see a wider selection of T-shirts and the inclusion of hats. I think that it would be awesome if I could get an official NG logo hat like Wade has."

You won the Biggest Attention Whore award for the NGBBS awards 2011. Do you think that you deserve this award and how did you feel winning it?

ZJ:

"I found it to be hilarious. I've never seen myself as much of an attention whore, but I guess that's how others did. I took it all in good humor and basically tried to take it all in stride. I wouldn't say I'm proud about the award, but it's not like I'm embarrassed by it either. I just took it as a "Haha, oh you guys" moment and moved on."

What can we expect from you in the future, ZJ?

ZJ:

"Lots of football threads and a possible art contest. Stay tuned."
