Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Phobotech.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Phobotech?

Phobotech:

"It was either 2000 or 2001, snooping across the web in middle school looking for entertainment. I loved the flash games, and at the time I was looking for any source of morbid sense of humor or game culture I could find...it wasn't until Rockman Neo came along that I wanted to get REALLY involved with the website's community. Initially I just wanted to type reviews, but I slowly began to realize that the people submitting content were around my age. It taught me that this sort of stuff was possible to do independently, so my imagination began running wild with ideas and ambition.

For years in chat rooms and such, my online moniker of choice was "FOX-DIE" in reference to the virus that killed characters in Metal Gear Solid. I wanted to go with something more original though, so drawing inspiration from my older brother's standard username of "Ohmegatech" I wanted to throw in something similar to parallel with my love with mechs. I'm a huge Armored Core fan, and at the time I was stuck on a level in Armored Core 2 on the Martian moon of Phobos. Learning that it was named such after the Greek god of Fear, I thought Phobotech sounded pretty cool!"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Phobotech:

"God yes. Come September, it will be one full decade of growth. I'm really pleased about who I've become, though there's always even more room for improvement. There's really no use in dwelling over the embarrassment of the past, that just kinda comes with adolescence...I'm glad that they're logged forever as a humbling reminder."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Phobotech:

"In my second submission ever, but what I consider to be my first true animation, Zone of the Awesome, there's obvious pulls of inspiration from one of my heroes, Egoraptor, but it was MindChamber that left positive words of encouragement in his review of that flash that absolutely didn't make me want to give up on animating.

I respect the animators that are skilled with frame-by-frame animation the most because that is a style I wish to master with speed. Talents like Adam Phillips and Zeurel want to me to push myself so that my animation looks the best it possibly can, but there are many other inspirations left on the site that prove that its the content above all else; that it doesn't need to look the flashiest as long as it gets the point across.....and to not take things so damned seriously all the time, lol.

There are many users here that are showing me the value of support and teamwork with large projects, skill in musicianship, dedicated voice actors, and even observant, critically thinking gamers or viewers who can really make the most out of constructive feedback. There are too many different people to list, and its kind of nice to think about how large the site really is."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Phobotech:

"Y'know what, I don't like Sykohyko, the guy that makes the Moolt flashes. That guy is lazy as hell, his content ain't funny, and he plays his material so safe and so close it annoys me. Why draw new head graphics or arm graphics when you can just recycle the same shit for years and years to come...same lip sync, same crap... at least Krinkles switches it up every once and a while.

Everyone else, we might have our bouts of retardation from time to time or debates, but there's never any grudge held."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Phobotech:

"They're neat little time-killers, and for some reason its one of the more appealing forums I've ever been a part of. Perhaps its bias concreted by time, but I spend 97% of my time on General just because its whackier and sometimes things pop up that are unexpected. If you're going to review anybody else, do Saen or Idiot-Finder."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Phobotech:

"They stop spammers, and put an end to stupidity when it breaches acceptable levels. Good on them, because I sure as hell wouldn't want their job."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Phobotech:

"...Well...I dunno. Wasn't there an icon moderation? Someone that made icons for people that didn't have them? I wouldn't mind doing that...I get kind of annoyed seeing the default Tankmen representing users. It's like, "SHOW SOME INDIVIDUALITY FFS." "

Since you joined 2005, you witnessed 2 redesigns, the redesigns 2007 and 2012. Tell me for both which changes you liked and what you didn't like. Tell me also what changes you would like to see getting implented in the future.

Phobotech:

"The grey and orange that changed it from the old Black and Yellow, Hentai-ad riddled mess of when I joined was an IMPRESSIVE improvement. In my opinion, the site continues to get better, but this current design has a few bugs and dents that need working out. I would enjoy a greater ease in navigation, and one thing that I would like to see in the future is holding our content to a slightly higher standard; in a voting system of 1-5, a vote of 2 can contribute to a blam point.

Also longer Review count, I max that shit out way too often.

...and a Literature Portal...

.....and Audio Submission Collaboration.

......and the ability to post much larger .gifs in the forums.

Or hell, y'know how Tumblr will let you host your own website to present your art there? Why not some kind of a customizable interface where we can present our portfolios to potential clients? Eh? A dash of professionalism found within the fun."

You are an animator and won some awards in the past. Tell our readers how you started animating. Your last flash was sumbitted 2010, do you have any plans to start sumbitting flashes again?

Phobotech:

"Oh yeah, my fascination with animation was born from a love of making people laugh with cartoons as a kid. Little comic doodles as simple as a one-frame, kinda Mad Magazine snippets or something like Gary Larson's Far Side to whole strips like Calvin & Hobbes or even trying to do something epic like Batman. Again, when I was first getting acclimated to Newgrounds, the big lesson for me to pull from was that "anyone can do it." ...Even with the flashes that I insisted were the worst thing I've ever seen, it was a labor that THEY went through, and THEY had the balls to work on it until its completion, and then send it out for us to see. I think I started with a trial of Flash 8 and I knocked out my first animation test, then submitted it...much to my surprise, people weren't shitting all over it, so I got the feeling that I was underestimating myself.

I still underestimate myself. What I'm learning, at 25, is to just deal with the fact that this insecurity won't go away. The insecurity that its a waste of time, or it wont matter, or it sucks...that negativity and self criticism will always be there, and like anything that has the potential to stop us, its how we handle that bullshit that defines who we are...and now my insecurity of choice is running out of time...though, heh, even THATS a crock, seeing how much time I spend lurking on General or playing video games or hanging out with people.

Regardless, I have several half-finished flashes on hold, on my desktop, and many, many ambitious projects I wish to finish. I've given up on the practice of throwing a date out there and trying to kick myself in the ass enough to complete it by said date, because that only leaves me with such a disappointment I group with failure that I just wind up abandoning the project altogether...so, I'll submit again when I'm good and ready, and holy shit I need to make more submissions.

Truth is I have a a potential career opportunity taking up my anxiety and attention span. I'm studying to become a pilot, and I'm a measly 24 flight hours in to the 250 I need for a commercial license...none of this shit is going to happen overnight. As impatient as I am, that kind of kills me."

You are also an artist. When did you start drawing? What subjects will we see in your future drawings?

Phobotech:

"Since I was very, very small. You'll definitely see more mechs and Star-Destroyer-like battleships/space ships. I'll be hopping back and forth between fantasy and sci-fi, but you'll also see me try to hone and practice at doing something more Frazetta-like, with realistic people...its something I've always wanted to learn and do."

Riding on a bike on the road is the ultimate freedom, I heard. When did you get your first bike? What is your dream bike?

Phobotech:

"lol, its pretty nice when everything goes according to plan. I still ride my first bike; a flat black, soft-tail 2002 Yamaha V-Star 650 cruiser. She sips gas, barks loud, and glides smoothly. I've been riding it as my solitary vehicle for three years."

I believe you can fly, since you are a pilot in training. When did you fly the first time and what fascinates you about it?

Phobotech:

"According to my logbook, my very first logged flight hour was January 11th 2012 at Addison Airport, just east by northeast of DFW. Whatever is calming about it is definitely the same feeling I get on the cruiser...the ease of controlling the machine, the hum of the engine, and the stimulation of cutting through the horizon. The things you see along the journey, the airflow (though admittedly the Piper Sports have really insufficient ventilation for Texan summers)

I haven't really thought of it until now, but there's something soothing about the air, I think...as a child, what always relaxed me was a stream of wind upon my face or my body as I drifted to sleep, like a fan or an open window. Car rides always knocked me out if I was a passenger because a vent would be hitting me with cool air, I'd get lost in the comfort of the chair and the subtle motions and, bam, I was out. I'm not tense on the bike unless our Dallas highways are being stupid (like they do) and I'm not tense in a plane unless I'm landing or extreme turbulence (but then again, I'm still a noob) but the driftiness and ease of control as the machine and I glide...there's something special in that."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Phobotech:

"Shit, I'll tell you four. -My family doesn't know that I'm a brony. -My greatest planned animation project is to animate the two-disc album "Ayreon: The Human Equation" in its entirety. -I was kicked out of my elementary school because of a drawing I made about the computer game "Doom." -My father is the voice of Lo Wang from "Shadow Warrior." What can we expect from you in the future, Phobotech?

Phobotech:

"I want to finish "Project: Sundae" by the end of the year, because I think it would be neat to make that the best thread of 2013.

I plan to do a weekly art submission so I can just stay sharp and practiced.

Hopefully in the background I'll wrap up the necessary flight time and actually have a job as a pilot.

There are always flash submissions that will need working on...I need to animate again.

Probably a couple of news posts? Several more posts? Oh! And I'll reach my 10,000th post this year! ....*sob*"

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user POTaTOS.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username SSPBourne and why did you change it to POTaTOS?

POTaTOS:

"Well, I found Newgrounds around 2007, and I made an account too. I only played games and watched movies, though. I didn't come back until 2011. By then I had forgotten my password, and I honestly didn't want to bother getting it back. I preferred the concept of a fresh start. So I made an account and started posting on the BBS instead of playing games. I really liked being on forums at the time.

And to answer your second question, which I knew you were gonna ask... well, I really liked Portal 2 at the time and I thought it was a cool name. I thought wrong of course, because it was one of the worst name changes of all time. To this day I wish I could change it back, but someone already took it. They don't use their account anymore so I could probably get it back... and I've even asked people on my profile for other good names. I didn't get any good names, of course."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

POTaTOS:

"As a user, I have changed quite a bit. For the first couple months or so, I was decent. But when I felt I had established myself as a user, I became a total a-hole and I thought I was all that. It was awful, and I hate looking back at that. However, I did eventually mature and I feel like I'm at least maybe respectable now. I'm a lot more humble now, that's for sure.... my god I sucked two years ago. And of course, I post less. I think I posted around 40 times a day with a record of over 60 posts in one day in 2011 and early 2012. For a while in late 2012 I posted once every couple weeks. I was less active because I got a job and stuff. I thought I had quit the BBS for good, but I'm posting a few times each day now. I mainly hang around the video game forum.

Yeah, I've changed in real life too. As I realized what a jerkoff I was on the BBS, I felt like that reflected off of my real life self, as well. So I made some changes to my personality. I feel like I've been a lot more successful in life, thanks to that. So for once, the internet may have done something good for me."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

POTaTOS:

"The longer I know a user, the more I grow to be fond of them, or even like them. If you want some names, then some of them would be Travis, Yert, FBIPolux, RacistBassist, as well as Rummy0 and Protagonist, who changed their names. But I forgot who they are now. And they did affect my posting style in a sense. I used to hate a few of these guys because they seemed like assholes. But I came to realize that it was just the norm on the BBS, and I've become much more senile and sarcastic since I first joined. Such is the curse of posting on the BBS. There are other users I like, but I don't want to remember and list all of them."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

POTaTOS:

"I don't have anyone I consider an enemy. Having an online nemesis is just pointless. And I only hate one user, and that's Superghandi64, who is just a troll. So... yeah."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

POTaTOS:

"These forums are a dark, dark place. But I feel like Tom's new rule about being nice to new users has improved the forums a bit. I don't really mind the behavior of most of the people here, because plenty of the users here are smart and reasonable people. They're just really cranky. There are other forums I go on, but I prefer this one because it has a surprisingly low amount of trolls and little kids."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

POTaTOS:

"Like I said, not a lot of trolls and little kids. So yeah, I think they do good work. And I haven't been banned for over a year, I think. So that's good. I use to get banned at least once every month, sometimes more than once in the span of a couple of weeks. That was MOSTLY my fault, though. But sometimes I felt that I got banned unfairly because I was 'posting in a spam thread.' Even though the thread didn't seem like a spam thread at all to me. But I'm actually thinking before I post now, which might be why I'm not gaining posts as fast. But I feel like posting a lot in 2011 is what got me noticed. Ah well, I don't crave the attention. But in real life, I am a complete attention whore. But in a 'class clown' sense."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

POTaTOS:

"I'm not good with handling power. I'm not saying it would corrupt me, though. It's just that I would be afraid of failure. If I banned a user unfairly, or locked a thread that didn't need to be locked, I would feel like crap. I would probably look for guidance all the time or just not do anything for fear of messing up. But hey, this is something that can be fixed through real life experiences. So maybe one day I'll be a little more comfortable with being in a postion of power. And maybe one day I can be a mod. However, I doubt I'll even be posting on here long enough for that to happen."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

POTaTOS:

"I don't complain much, so I actually like the redesign. The site looks better in my opinion, but the interface itself can be troublesome at times. This isn't really a problem for me because I only post on the BBS. But sometimes navigating my profile feels tedious, not to mention all of the greasemonkey scripts I had were made useless. And I feel like some things were just not nessessary to add or remove. My main example being that the reply button is now only at the top (and I think the bottom) of each thread, as opposed to being shown on each reply. That's just a nitpick, tough. And I REALLY don't like the new level icons. Those made me angry. I haven't ever bothered getting points since the very day of the redesign, so I'll just stick with my machete. Of course, it's mainly about the user icons now. So that takes attention off of the level icons."

Since your name is similiar to GLaDOS, I guess that you like the Portal games. For someone that never played them, what is the best thing about this series?

POTaTOS:

"Well, the first game was all about gameplay. So that's an obvious answer. But there are a lot of great things about the second once. The dialogue was improved, and a lot more puzzle elements were added. But I felt that the second one was too easy, so I think that dialogue is the best part about Portal 2. Pretty unusual for a puzzle game. Can't forget the atmosphere. Most of the time, both games fill you with an eerie feeling that you just can't shake off. And the hidden areas of that game are really creepy."

You are a gamer. What game releases are you looking forward to? What is your favourite game that has been released this year, and which one your most favourite game of all time?

POTaTOS:

"As you can tell, my favorite game this year is The Last of Us. One of the best games I've ever played. I could go on about that game, but I'll try to make it brief. The writing, pacing, and character development of that game is unmatched my any other game, in my opinion. And if you really analyze it, you'll notice a lot of incredibly subtle details. There is a lot of interperetation in that game, and a lot of things said in the game can have many potential meanings. I can't explain it, but I put a link below, which leads to a video of four guys talking about it for an hour. And they point out almost all of the clever things that were implemented into the game through dialogue, pacing, character behavior, etc. It's mind blowing. But there will be major spoilers, so I don't reccomend watching it unless you're someone who has beaten the game.

VideoGamer UK Podcast: The Last of Us Special (SPOILERS!)

I'm looking forward to Beyond: Two Souls, Watch Dogs, and inFAMOUS: Second Son. Speaking of inFAMOUS, my favorite game of all time is inFAMOUS 2. I was actually playing inFAMOUS 1 when you sent me this message. The reason I like that series so much is because it's extremely fun. The story is also really good, but riddled with plotholes, all because time travel was introdouced into the plotline. That just made everything convoluted. Not to mention a lot of loose ends in the series. But I don't mind, because I still have lots of fun with that series. I'm also a big fan of the Ratchet and Clank series, as they were some of the first games I played. I feel like that series is what really got me into gaming, and I have a lot of great memories from those games."

The dust from the E3 has settled and both Microsoft and Sony have presented their consoles, the Xbox One and the Playsation 4. Which one find do you more appealing and why?

POTaTOS:

"Playstation 4. Not because it's cheaper, not because it's more powerful, or anything like that. I only care about the exclusives. Playstations exclusive games such as inFAMOUS, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, The Last of Us, and many more are the reason I've always stuck with playstation. I'm not trying to be a fanboy, it's just that the Xbox doesn't have anything that interests me. I almost bought one to get the original Mass Effect, but then it came out on the Playstation 3 last year for $15."

In 2011, you were nominated as rookie of the mid-year and won the second place, only losing to a user called Asandir. How did you feel getting nominated and almost winning?

POTaTOS:

"I remember that. I just didn't remember who I lost too and who I tied with. Well, congrats on the award. I'm just amazed that people actually nominated me considering my behavior that year. It was definately a few strokes for my ego. I don't mind losing. I didn't really do anything noticable other than getting about 5,000 posts in one year. The nomination was enough of an honor. I wonder if I got nominated for anything else... I don't remember."

Don't think I need to explain what I mean by that... but I at least quit the other drugs and I'm back to just smoking... Also I'm adopted."

Of maybe I'll BE one of those older users whom the new people think are assholes but eventually grow fond of once they start becoming cranky. It's the circle of life."

Interview with POTaTOS

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user gamejunkie.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username gamejunkie?

gamejunkie:

"I found Newgrounds (or more like Newgrounds was pointed out to me by an associate at the time) early 2002, I joined late 2002 because I liked the site more than any of the others around at that time."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

gamejunkie:

"Not in the slightest. I think I've been the same ol' gamejunkie from day 1. My real life has no impact on my Newgrounds life."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

gamejunkie:

"There are many other users that I like. I'm not going to single out anyone in particular, the people that are my NG friends know who they are."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

gamejunkie:

"No one that I would consider an 'enemy' as such but there are a couple of totally unremarkable users that are so insignificant that their names don't even warrant a mention. They know who they are I'm sure."

And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

gamejunkie:

"The forums are okay. IMO they need to be policed (Modded) better, there are still far too many things that get posted that are against NG rules that the Mods just let slide. I like the Wi/Ht Forum pages and The Elite Guard Barracks the best I suppose. No other Forum users that you haven't already interviewed."

Do you think that they do a great job or not?

gamejunkie:

"I think the Mods do a fair job. I think it goes without saying that most NG'ers think that some Mods are better than others."

If so, what kind of moderator?

gamejunkie:

"No. I don't need to suffer the angst of thousands of depressed prepubescent teens. It's bad enough getting it when you're not a Mod."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

gamejunkie:

"IMO Newgrounds hasn't changed anywhere near as much as people rant about that it has. There hasn't been much about any of the redesigns that I have liked. Call me old fashioned but I think the original is always the best."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

gamejunkie:

"See previous question. I'm not saying I don't like the redesign as such but some things should have just been left the way they were. The thing I don't like is the bugs and glitches that we are still getting months after the redesign."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You are a member of the Elite Guard Barracks. Tell me when and why you joined them. What do you think about the current state of the flash portal, and what kind of changes would you like to see?

gamejunkie:

"I joined the EGB a couple of years ago because I was sick and tired of seeing truck loads of shovelware and stolen games being submitted to The Portal. I thought if I could help slow down the torrent of poop entering The Portal then why not join. I will refrain from answering questions about the state of The Portal because, just because. (Fucking Savewhores)"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You collect plushies. When did you start collecting plushies and how many plushies do you have in total?

gamejunkie:

"I do collect Plushies. I probably started serious collecting when I was 15, my collection now totals around 3,000."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Fishing is one of your hobbies. Do you have a favourite fishing place?

gamejunkie:

"Wherever the Fish are biting is my favourite place to fish. J/K, Groote Eylandt is by far my favourite place to fish, Darwin runs second behind that."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What was the biggest fish you ever caught?

gamejunkie:

"I have landed a Lemon Shark that was just over 9 feet long and weighed 133 kgs. But I've also caught many other huge fish. Most big Australian fish species."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

gamejunkie:

"I have read the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series of books about 20 times each and I can recite Vogon poetry."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future, gamejunkie?

gamejunkie:

"Nothing more than what you have already got from me. 24/7 365 gamejunkie, the way you like it."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Interview with gamejunkie

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user TheMajormel.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username majormelthesackboy and why did you change it to TheMajormel?

TheMajormel:

"I think I found NG around the year 2006. My cousins showed me a flash where Britney Spears was in her school girl outfit. I think the song was "Oops I Did It Again", but the memorable bit was when Britney Spears tried to inflate her tits to maximum size until she exploded, hehe. I later found NG in 2011, when my brother and I got Castle Crashers and in the games start up, the Newgrounds logo popped up, and we both sorta realized what the website was, and to be honest, we didn't really jump back on to NG. I wasn't internet savvy that much, so yeah. Later on in the summer, I learned of indie games, and I thought how cool it was to make these nice games without doing anything complex. The game that brought me back To NG was a horror 8-bit My little Pony game, I wasn't into My Little Pony, but the game got tons of coverage from indie blogs and sites.

I actually had two accounts before majormelthesackboy, which was majormel and majormel84, these two are dead because during registration, the activation bit would mess up. I got majormel from the cartoon Saturday morning show "Chaotic", where a character was called MajorTom. All I did was adding the first 3 letters to my name. The sackboy part was from the game LittleBigPlanet where you can choose to play as a sackboy or sackgirl. I was a HUGE, HUGE, HUUUUUUGE fan of the games. I switched to TheMajormel because majormelthesackboy was sorta kiddie stuff, I was getting older and I wasn't into LittleBigPlanet as much."

TheMajormel:

"Yes, I blame NG for affecting my personality. I blame NG for introducing me to Radiohead. I blame them for everything."

TheMajormel:

"Users like Potatoman, BrazilianNinja, LadiBug, Rad, pwnifyer, Gimmick and Doodlebin are really cool guys. They're fun to talk to when I'm down, and they've been a great help when I'm working on a flash project."

TheMajormel:

"Nope, I feel that every user has a sort of story to tell, mean or not."

TheMajormel:

"I think the forums are a cool place yo. I mean there are times where I'm all like "yo what da fuk bro" and there are times where "hey dis is pwetty funnaaaay" and yeah, it's sorta funny. I am a big fan of the Flash forum. The elite-ism is dripping by the sides and every time I see two smart flash users, they're all smart and stuff, and they look so cool!!!!!!111!! I'd like to see The user Satan getting interviewed. He seems very interesting."

TheMajormel:

"They do a okay job, but I really liked it when they ruled with an iron fist. It made a user's ban more funny, and nowadays, "the last words of a mod"(when they lock a thread with a reply) is soooooo boring. They need to be more creative with it."

TheMajormel:

"I'd like to be a Portal Moderator, I feel like I'm the only person on this website who monitors the under judgement section. Hell, there were a few times where I ratted out users for having A BUNCH of stolen content that actually PASSED. I feel Like the Portal Mods are sorta lazy and only do something when someone warns them about it; I feel a good mod takes action, not wait around."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You are a flash creator. Tell our readers when you started making flashes. Can you tell us about some projects that you are working on?

TheMajormel:

"I started working on flashes seriously in 2012 but it traced wayyyy back to 2008, when there were websites like playcrafter and the Ben 10 Level creators. I didnt really know how to make a game properly so the level design would be brutal difficult or just retarded. A project I'm working on right now is my big one. It's gonna put me on the map mannnnn. It's a beat em up/fighting game called Arcade Quest. It was actually gonna release a year ago, when I was using Stencyl, a game making program. The game had a more 8-bit look cuz I only had MSpaint at the time. The game was sort of delayed because at the time, I discovered SkullGirls, a fighting game that has TONS of hand drawn frames. I still wanted to use Stencyl, but I found the program Un-flexable.

I later got flash and a drawing tablet, and got back to reworking the game by creating a new type of Fighting system, one where you're rewarded with auto combos and focus on cool playstyles. Here's the game that could've been.

TheMajormel:

"I think it's really awesome. My first impressions were that the Redesign was more focused on attracting Flash developers, since they Re-did auras to show interests and created a Top-tier Project System. I believe later on, that Tom and some of the guys at NG realized that NG has people that don't make content, and come here for social stuff or games. It's from my point of view, so I might be wrong(ZINNGGG! RADIOHEAD REFERENCE!!!!111!!) I love the NG flash API and the project system. They are so cool to screw around with and I have some really great Ideas for taking advantage of stuff a game dev wouldn't consider like the referral events, which is something I'd really want to integrate into a game for a dynamic idea."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You use the chat often, so what is your opinion about the Newground featureless chat?

TheMajormel:

"I think it's a nice place, to be honest. BUT, chat really has its terrible times where a kid or a idiot is just a huge nincompoop. It's fun though."

TheMajormel:

"I have problems with my anger, and it got me into special ed for like, 3 years."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future, TheMajormel?

TheMajormel:

"Expect Arcade Quest mang. That game is gonna BLOW THE ROOF YO!!!!111!!! Expect me to single highhandedly save NG from the depths of hell."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Interview with TheMajormel

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user JimmyTheCaterpillar.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username brokenrecord6299?

JimmyTheCaterpillar:

"Well a few years back, me and a few of my friends were hanging out. Me, Torie, and Brandon. It was pretty late, around 11:00 or so, and for some reason we really wanted some Doritos 'Late Night' Taco chips (not the actual taco, they're chips). We were gonna take Torie's car and go to the gas station and get some. Unfortunately, we were walking out the door when Brandon and Torie's mom caught us and said we couldn't because it was too late, and there was a drug dealer that hung around the place. We were really bummed, so we messed around on Brandon's laptop for a while, (not like that, you perverted freaks) and we were listening to music on his iTunes. We were looking for movies to watch, and all of them had pictures of the posters above the names, except for one. It was called The Room. Brandon said it wasn't on iTunes and he had to upload it to the computer. I had never seen it or heard of it before, and they were shocked. They played it immediately, and so we watched it. 1 hour and 31 minutes of the worst, yet most hilarious acting ever, the movie was over. We were talking about it for a while after, and Torie said she had heard that someone made a game out of it. We were all gonna look it up, but I had to go home. The next day, I looked up The Room, The Game. Sure enough, it was on a flash site, Newgrounds. I played the game, and I kind of browsed around. I soon fell in love with the site, and a couple days later, I made an account. One and a half years later, and here I am.

I named myself brokenrecord6299 simply because it was what I wanted to name my band that was going to be famous and make millions (as if). The 6299 is my birthday. I really wish I hadn't put that there, after seeing that no one else used numbers. Oh, well. Frankly, I've tried to change my username a couple of times, (one example is 7TOUGH7LUCK7) but I chickened out for the fear that no one would realize that I was me. Most people call me BR6299 to save time, though."

Changed his name to UncleCubone in December 2013 and to JimmyTheCaterpillar in June 2014.

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

JimmyTheCaterpillar:

"Oh, definitely. This site definitely helped hit puberty, and grow up. I mastered the art of sarcasm thanks to the members of the forums. It inspired me to draw, to make music, and to make very shitty videos. It's helped me through some tough times, as sappy as that sounds, it's all true. I've put a lot of heart and work into my identity here. Newgrounds, to me, really is a second family/home/whatever. I love Newgrounds, man. I'm probably a huge fuckin' nerd for it, but I don't give a damn."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

JimmyTheCaterpillar:

"There are a lot of users I like. Ilssm has been a pretty cool guy to talk to, Skaren was probably the first guy I could consider sort of my friend. Mandog is a total asshole, but he's funny, but he can still eat a dick. New-groundforme was a really good friend, and we were gonna make a video but it fell apart. There are a lot of others, too, like Natick, DLX, ohbombuh and more that I don't feel like naming cuz I'm lazy. The thing I'm somewhat afraid of is that since gone, everyone I know has left, and they've been replaced by sex-joke obsessed kids. I've been honestly, I'm just too goddamn nice. I like everyone."

JimmyTheCaterpillar:

"Yes, but I don't know their names because I ignore them completely."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

JimmyTheCaterpillar:

"I love the forums, you get the most random topics, and some really intelligent, clever answers. I prefer to post on the general forum, since I don't really fucking care about politics, I just know they need to go up in flames. (I'm an anarchist, excuse me) and I don't really like to get flamed by nerds whenever I say 'I've never heard of that game.' in the Videogames forum. General is for me. There are some really brain-dead topics, really deep conversations, and everything in between, I suppose that's why I enjoy it. There are a couple users that would be interesting, but I've been gone so long I have no idea if they've been interviewed or not."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

JimmyTheCaterpillar:

"They do a fine job, although they sometimes occasionally abuse their power late at night and go on banning sprees, although I can't blame 'em. I'd probably do the same thing sometimes. But all in all, they do they're jobs, and they are pretty nice and helpful about it most of the time, so yeah, they are alright in my book. My only complaint is that sometimes they are total wet blankets and they close a thread that, while having no relevancy, everyone is having a lot of fun in it. But they're just doing they're jobs, I suppose."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

JimmyTheCaterpillar:

"I would love to be a mod! But I don't think I'd be cut out for the job. I seriously doubt people like me enough, and although some are, my posts aren't that quality. But, if I was given the honor, I would probably be a... Well I would just be happy with whatever they give me. However, I'd probably be a forum or audio mod. Maybe flash, but I just don't watch videos and play games as much as I used to."

You make music. Tell our readers how you started making music and what plans you have in the future.

JimmyTheCaterpillar:

"I was a drummer in a really shitty band back in Kansas. It was called Garage Band #60210 and we never once made a whole song. Eventually, I discovered a site called Jamstudio and it was free to make music, I got a membership and I was obsessed with the thing. I made a lot of music and I was good at it, well, I was better than most of the people there. But I got bored with it, and I moved on to other things. My membership canceled out and I've tried to go back but you pretty much HAVE to buy a membership to have fun. Tightwads. My music postings, will probably be non-existent until I find a music program that's totally free OR if I decide to rejoin Jamstudio. But I wouldn't expect much from me anytime soon. Sorry. However, I'm in the school band. I'm a percussionist, and I'm a really good pianist/mallet player, but there's not really a way to record that stuff during the summer. Besides, I doubt anyone wants to hear mallet music."

You have cats and dogs. How important is having pets for you? Also talk about a funny/interesting situation that you experienced with your pets.

JimmyTheCaterpillar:

"I love my dogs. I love my cat too, even though he died a few years back. I have two miniature dachshunds, or wiener dogs. A red guy named Spanky, and a black and tan girl named Lulu. When I was seven, I was at a friend's house, and when my mom came to pick me up, she had a little wiener dog on a leash, said his name was Spanky. I didn't know we owned him until a week after we had him, when I asked my mom when his owner was gonna pick him up. I thought we were pet sitting. When we got Lulu, about two years ago, my mom went to Mexico for a week, and I was stuck with taking care of Lulu. Since I was the only person she ever saw for a week, I became her favorite. My mom says when I move out, she's keeping Lulu, but I'm just gonna break in the house and steal her."

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

JimmyTheCaterpillar:

"I didn't realize people were still talking about that. I'm totally used to it. I hated it at first, because it was new, and change always seems bad. The features are much better, and the site itself is much easier to navigate. It was a really good change, but I felt Newgrounds lost a bit of it's edge when the Redesign came, but it's still got plenty to spare. I liked the old Background/Layout a tad bit better, but the the new Background is awesome, too. I like how they change it from time to time. Keep it fresh donchya know. I really like how they added the profile pictures in the forums instead of your level. It makes it a lot easier to remember who's who."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

JimmyTheCaterpillar:

"I've almost been murdered. Back when I was too young to stay home alone (I was six), my mom would take me to the home of this guy named Rex. That's what we called him. He was a really big, muscular guy. He had a son named Hunter, and we kicked around and were pals. One day, Hunter was trying to teach me how to tie my shoes and Rex was laying down on the couch behind me. I wasn't getting it, and Hunter was getting irritated with me, and I was getting mad because he was irritated with me. Hunter said something and made me mad, so I raised my fist to punch him. Rex, out of the blue, got up and lifted me off the ground, and started strangling me. He carried me through every room in the house, thank God for me, his wife stopped him and he threw me on the bed and said I couldn't leave the room without tying my shoes. I sat on that bed and cried til my mom came to pick me up. When we got in the car, I told my mom, and we went to the fuzz. For some reason, I told Rex he spanked me with a golden spatula. Then I told them what really happened. Rex went to jail and I don't know if he's still there or not.

So, yeah. It was kind of traumatizing."

What can we expect from you in the future, JimmyTheCaterpillar?

JimmyTheCaterpillar:

"Oh lawd, the hardest question. I'm certainly returning to the forums, more mature, more intelligent. I'm practicing flash more, maybe one day I won't suck at it. But I'll always be a local here, and I'll always try to help the newbies, and tell the occasional funny joke, and say the occasional deep, clever thing. I'll try to stick around, and continue to grow up with the site. Who knows, maybe, just maybe, one day I'll someone here.

But don't count on it."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user PsychoZoid.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username PsychoZoid?

PsychoZoid:

"I discovered Newgrounds at around 2006 or 2007 when I was in fourth grade at school. I got hooked with the website because I thought the movies were funny and the games to be fun and addicting to play.

I joined Newgrounds because I wanted to be a part of the Art Forum on the BBS. I think that's the reason I decided to join, and I was 12 years old at the time of making my first account called UltimaRed. Unfortunately, the Art Forum didn't go well and people started to bash at me. So I decided to ditch my first account and made a new one called Zoidz. But the same thing happened again when I made an art adventure thread that turned into a pointless flame war. So I decided to leave the Art Forum for good, made a bunch of other failed accounts, and then decided to leave Newgrounds for a while in general. And then I decided to make a comeback in 2011 when I made this account now known as PsychoZoid.

At first, the name for this account was Psych which was a name that I didn't really want. I actually wanted the name Psycho but discovered that it was taken by an active user. So I decided to PM Wade on an old account to give Psych from an extremely inactive account. I thought the name suited me at first, but then I totally began to dislike it. Plus, I gained confusion from others to the TV show that's also called Psych. So I decided that I wanted a name change.

How I came up with PsychoZoid was from Psycho because I thought it was cool adjective and and I wanted this account to be called Psycho anyway. And Zoid from my second account Zoidz and my original character from the art forum adventure threads I made in the past. I PM Wade once again to change my username to that earlier this year, and now I am really happy with the name. Another reason why I chose PsychoZoid was because it was also the username for my DeviantArt account before making this account, and I plan to use the name for every account I make on the Web."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

PsychoZoid:

"Yeah, I think Newgrounds had changed from the time I have been there. I think this has affected me both as a user and in real life.

I think it was the Art Forum and the BBS in general that affected me the most, because it made me realize that not everyone is going to be nice to you especially on a message board or any other community. That thought made me open up more to the world and has made me more mature though my personality and the choices I make. I now know to also think twice before you act upon something."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

PsychoZoid:

"I don't really post that much nowadays, so I haven't befriended anyone yet. But I remember back in the day when I mostly posted in the Art Forum on my first two accounts that I befriended a couple of users. There was one name Dexter3000 who was friendly to me, and we both had a connection of drawing and that gave some sort of affect to me. It's been a while since the last time I saw him, and I do kind of miss seeing him."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

PsychoZoid:

"I really don't want hate people, but that can't be helped. There are users on the General Forums that I personally dislike but I won't say their names. But one thing I will tell you is that I don't like users who seek attention to much on the forums and ones who try to act like someone they're not so they can boost up their "Internet persona"."

PsychoZoid:

"The forums have their ups and downs. My favorite one is the General Forums because I am interested to what people say and discuss about topic in everyone's everyday life. But it does tend to get a bit wild most of time and a lot of "circle jerking" posts and thread. But that doesn't seem to stop me from going there all the time.

I used to like the Art Forum but I began to be withdrawn from it because I realized that there are people who produce art way better than me and I need to improve on my own artwork. Plus the art adventure threads trend had died and the Art Forum had gotten boring to me. I still visit it from time to time though.

My least favorite forum is the Video Game Forum because the people there take video games and consoles too seriously. After seeing countless flame wars threads with Nintendo, Microsoft or Sony consoles it just gets annoying for me. Plus, everybody is rubbing their nostalgia about all the video games they play when they were little and considering it their entire childhood experience. Then again I don't like other people's childhood nostalgia in general.

I can't really think of anyone that I want to see get interviewed by you. I know the people who post in the General forum, but I don't know them personally enough to get the urge to see them get interviewed, so sorry."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

PsychoZoid:

"My opinion of the Newgrounds moderator is that some are doing a fair to great job and some aren't. There are some moderators I noticed that lock thread because of their personal reason and not by the rules. There are some moderators that act immature, even though from what I read you have to mature to be a moderator on here, especially the forums.

But there are some moderators that do lock thread and ban users based by the official forum rules, and those are the types of moderators I do respect.

So overall, some moderators are doing a poor job and there some moderators that are doing decently well at their job. So it's pretty much 50/50 for me."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

PsychoZoid:

"I always had thoughts of becoming a moderator when I joined the Newgrounds community. Practically, I dreamt of being a forum moderator since I know the rules and what threads are bad and what threads are good, and also if anyone is breaking any rule. But I don't know if that will happen since I don't post as much as most users do on the BBS. But, I never been banned on this account before so maybe there could be a shot.

And since I like art, there could also be a possible chance the I could become an Art Moderator. But my art isn't all that great yet, and I'm not that good at critiquing other people's artwork. But maybe there can be a chance I get that spot instead if I finally had mastered my art style. (Which I think I haven't yet.)"

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

PsychoZoid:

"When I first heard about the redesign, I was excited for it. When I first saw it in February of last year I thought it looked really cool. As of now, I still like this design as its appearance is in good quality.

Sometimes I do wish the website can go back to it 2007 design the design I was more used to the most. It's probably because I prefer the 2007 level icons better than the current. Not that there is anything wrong with the new level icons I just thought the 2007 icons look more better, especially level 60. Also the BBS looked better in that design. But I realized that they new level icons and the BBS won't get changed back, and I got to accept that.

I'm aware that there are other people that hate the redesign as a whole. But they just got to follow what I did and get used to the new design and accept the change. It was Tom's choice to change the website after all."

You play Pokemon games. Which one is your favorite one and what would be your dream Pokemon team? Are you looking forward to Pokemon X and Pokemon Y?

PsychoZoid:

"Yes, I am a fan of Pokemon. My favorite game is probably Pokemon Gold and Silver because it was the first Pokemon game that I played.

My dream Pokemon team would be any of the legendary Pokemon because they are the best particully Ho-Oh and Mewtwo. Also Raichu since he is my favorite Pokemon of all time.

I am definitely looking forward to Pokemon X and Y. The new Pokemon are pretty cool and the main legendaries look awesome. Converting the graphics into full 3D is a great leap for the Pokemon franchise. Hopefully the story will be great too. I will definitely buy either Pokemon X or Y versions when it gets released later this year!"

You watch Naruto. What do you like about the series and are you also reading the manga? Do you like the recently submitted parody Narutoe Shitpoodamn? What other animes do you like?

PsychoZoid:

"I like the story and the characters, and all of the ninja action. It's really fun to watch! I first saw Naruto when it was on Cartoon Network back in 2005 but I didn't get into it then. But in summer of 2010, I decided to give the show another shot and I watched the episodes online and got instantly hooked with it. I am now watching the English dub of Naruto Shippuden, and I haven't watched all of the episodes of it yet. I haven't read much of manga. I only have one volume of it. But someday I will read it. Based on the only volume I have now, the art looks pretty great.

As for Narutoe Shitpoodamn, I rather not watch it right now. Because of two reasons: One, there might be something on there that might spoil me, I don't like to be spoiled, and like I just said, I'm not done watching all the episodes to Naruto Shippuden yet. And two, I don't like parodies that make fun of a show I really like and Narutoe Shitpoodam seems like one of them. I rather not get my interpretation towards the series ruined by it either. But maybe someday in the future I will watch but now is not the time.

Other animes that I like are Dragon Ball, Pokemon, Elfen Lied, and recently I have been hooked to one called Soul Eater, I find it to be great and fun to watch as well! I am also reading the manga version of One Piece and maybe I will see the anime version later on."

Nowadays, many people are surrounded by technology all day, be it tablets, smart phones, etc. Do you think that using those almost 24/7 has negative effects on how we communicate with others?

PsychoZoid:

"Yes, I kind of do think that using electronic devices 24/7 does give a negative effect on how we communicate with each other, but it just depends on how you use them and it's also just my opinion. I just feel that people are being distractive when using their cell phones. Especially, in school where I see people use their phones all day long and I'm in high school and see people texting every day. I also just feel that high school students are texting or on social media more than learning anything in class. I figure they play with their phones because the stuff in classes bore them. Plus, a part of me dies on the inside whenever I see someone text on their cell phone underneath their desk. I think the Board of Education should ban cell phone/music player use in school, now that would be great.

I also find it sad that children at 3 years old are using tablets now. I'm not really sure it's a bad thing or a good thing, but I just think that kids that should be playing outside and not glued to a tablet screen most of the time. Humans are evolving to a lazier style, I guess."

You said that you want be become a cartoonist or animator. When did you develop this wish and how are you planning to turn it into reality? Will you use Newgrounds as starting platform to improve your animation skills?

PsychoZoid:

"I developed this wish of becoming a cartoonist or an animator back in a time when I can't remember, I was pretty young. But I think when I was preschool was when I wanted that career because I always drew doodles on my papers. Also watching cartoons and later anime and reading comic books and manga also supported my dreams to do cartooning. I plan to turn my dream of becoming a cartoonist or animator into reality after I graduate from high school and find an art/animation school to study at. Actually, I am going to an art vocational school next year in my Junior year of high school so that is an excellent start.

Someday, I will practice and master Flash animation. And yes I will use Newgrounds as a platform to improve my animation skills. Once I come up with a good idea for a Flash movie I will definitely submit it to the Portal."

I like to enjoy jogging outside frequently and working out in the gym, and I am incredibly impatient and I like to be perfect at almost everything. PsychoZoid:

I am going submit a lot of art on my DeviantArt account as well. It would great to gain a lot of fans because they like the work I produce someday. Other than that, who knows what I am going to do, I guess everyone else and I will have to wait and see. But people will definitely see more of me in the future though, and that's a true guarantee!"

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user fuzzum111.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username fuzzum111?

fuzzum111:

"I found Newgrounds, I want to say wayyyy way back in like 2004, 2003 maybe? I was still in middle school and still a little shit to say the least. I remember playing those hentai and dress up games all the time, like many others. It was just an NG thing I guess. It was a place for me to come, see some cool animations, fap off to assorted dress up games, maybe check out some audio. Really not a whole lot going on that many other users haven't really said, it was fun having my friend over and us both fapping to stuff we really enjoyed. I still remember that ridiculous britney spears porn game where you could make the boobs as big as you wanted and they'd just get crazy looking. Worth a laugh."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

fuzzum111:

"Well that is a given. I'm more mature here, than I used to be. I've gone through many phases, and many periods of dormancy and inactivity. I lurk more than I post, but I do post. There was a good period where I was posting minecraft stuff non stop and impressing people left and right. I can't even sustain minecraft simply becuase I've -done- everything I've ever wanted to do. As a person I've grown, I held a solid part time job for 2 whole years, before my parents split and went to the opposite ends of the country. I nestled myself into the state of Arkansas about 600 miles from home. Now I just picked up a job, worked my first day as of today (5/24/2013) at Arbys. Let's see how long it will last. People grow, change, and adapt, those who don't are bound for failure, and lonesome lives."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

fuzzum111:

"I would like to think users like Dosensuppen, tox, Xenomit, kisame, SexualEmo, are all friends to some level or another. Some bound by our fellow love of the furry things, others just by our common sense, logic, and general likelyness of subjects and how we feel on debates. Often If I see a good post by one of those users, for example it gives me a reason to quote them, and jump into a conversation backing them up. Sometimes we disagree but not very often. I'd like to think we could all hang out IRL as friends and enjoy it. Xenomit, SexualEmo and I have jokingly talked about getting together IRL, sadly we live quite the distance and I doubt it would happen, maybe if we went to the same con."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

fuzzum111:

"I fucking hate Supergandhi64. I know he loves to be hated, but I honestly wish we could ban that prick. He purposefully has the worst human views conceivable for the sole purpose of pissing off users, and derailing threads with his retardation. It's frustrating seeing the tardies and trolls as it is, but he, is the crown jewel of lack of moderation in these forums.

Otherwise, at least off the top of my head I cannot think of any other users that spark an instant disdane for. I joke with others, start silly threads, and try to enjoy myself. For the most part, with the sections I interact with (90% general forum) I don't have an problems."

And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

fuzzum111:

"When it comes to what I think about this forum? General is fairly fun, I think the moderation is not nearly as good as it used to be. Often times I'm told my threads aren't worthy and there locked for no reason. While completely shit threads, are allowed to go and do as they please. I don't think the current generation of moderation likes me. Not that they pick on me and look for reasons to ban me but they certainly do not like my threads. Oh well. As for another forum I may prefer? I don't really have any other "main" forums. I don't use things like 4chan, NG is my hub more or less. There are other forums I use for particular games, or ther things, but there visited infrequently and for purposes of me getting help on a subject.

I am lazy kitsune, I don't really post that much unless a subject sparks my eye or a uneducated post is posting idiocy all over the subject and needs to be rectified and shown he's a worthless moron. Call it a superiority complex or whatever but I hate when people spread misinformation.

Finally, another user I want you to interview? Well I see you have done tox already, how about Xenomit, or SexualEmo? If both have been done get back to me."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

fuzzum111:

"The current generation of mods are very finicky. They seem to have a very random and easily aroused anger. There are days they let picture threads slide, and other days, picture threads are locked left and right, even if it's interesting and not dumb pictures. The older generation felt more stable, yes people thought Poozy was an asshole, and he was. He wasn't a inherently bad person though. I mean, we all have nostalgia filters we simply cannot turn off. That is part of the problem with the question like this, almost no matter what, any older venerated user will say the older mods were better. Maybe they were right, maybe they were wrong, who fucking knows.

My personal opinion on the subject is I liked the older mods better. Yes I got a few mandatory 3 day bans, they didn't exactly feel it was right but they did it anyways because, it was da rules. It feels like most of the mods don't always respect the major rules anymore and just kinda wing it with if they ban you or not. Again, Supergandi64, should have been perma banned a long time ago. He is a troll, simple and clean. Why the mods don't ban him makes me think one of the mods -is- playing on that account so he can fuck around and not get in trouble, even though the mods can see IP's and shit, so who knows, what really goes on. I'd like to see changes, I think there are some users could make better mods than others."

If so, what kind of moderator?

fuzzum111:

"I would and wouldn't. Yes, I could enjoy being a forum moderator. Yes it would be nice to put users in there place when they really need it. However, it would mean I'd have to spend quite a bit more time trolling the forums, scouring threads and shutting shit down when need be. That could be a problem and possibly suck the fun out of just having NG open all the time. Right now I can be as active, or inactive as I like and nothing changes. If I were a forum mod, I'd have to check threads and posts and make sure a popular thread isn't just a flame war. I'm lazy, as I've stated above.

Now, not to bash on other mods, but it would feel any other mod position would just be...err..kinda pointless and unnecessary for myself. It'd just be a title, with little/nothing to really do with the forums. I know the audio, icon, lit, and other mods do a job and have their place. Also, with the redesign, the whole "gold aura" means so much less now with like 8 other colors available now."

What do you like and what is not so good?

fuzzum111:

"Personally? I dislike many aspects of it. I don't like the new portal feeling. I don't like the organization. I personally think the new icons are horribad, there are a few that are kinda cool but that's it. Most of them suck, and the later levels don't feel bad-ass enough, not to mention you are stuck with them for months if not years at a time. I think the art quality is kinda shoddy considering the fact they reverted to "retro" pixel art. They could have done so much more with it, and gone -up- from the previous designs quality. Instead of copped out, fucked users that were a higher level that already had cool icons with other cooler stuff to look forward too, and created this new, tiered "themed" system that is just, well bad. It really upset me, and I know liljim and whoever else all worked on them, worked hard. I'm sorry if I am insulting you, and it's not meant to be a personal attack, I just honestly think it was a very poor choice for Newgrounds considering what we had and where we could have gone.

I could list tons of changes, I would like to make, but it sorta feels pointless. Yes, this interview may be read by some of these guys, but they are going to take my ideas and opinion with a grain of salt, I am just 1 user and I respect that. I know that my opinion is shared, and I am not alone, but simply put. We just redesigned the site, we couldn't bitch hard enough as a collective to have them change the forum icons, even if it was 100's even 1000's of us complaining about it. They'd tell us to suck it or leave the site.

Other than that, not many of the other changes due to the redesign really matter, or effect me personally so I don't have too much input."

2009 you submitted audio to Newgrounds. How did you start making music? Do you think that you will ever go back to submitting stuff in the audio portal?

fuzzum111:

"Honestly? Probably not. I am simply not musically inclined enough to write original stuff, nor really "remix" things. All my audio stuff is sort of a sham, I used Fruity loops studios, midi files, and a combo of tweaking some notes, and just changing the instruments to whatever I wanted them to sound like to make the "new" song, even though very little if anything was acutally changed from the original midi. I used to play the keyboard/piano but I just sorta lost interest. I am inept at reading sheet music, so I have to play everything by ear, and I'm no savant ergo that just makes it worse. I can get it, but it takes forever."

I think that you are a furry. Did you ever get negative reactions for being one?

fuzzum111:

"You don't need to think I am a furry, I am one. A proud, but not retardedly proud one. Yes, we always do. We get picked on, or singled out. People try to make me think it's beastality, or that I am going against god, or I will burn in hell. It comes with any fetish. For me it's a little bit more than that, I wouldn't say "lifestyle" because everything I do, is not furry bound. Yes I am willing to save up money and blow it on conventions. Yes I have a $2000+ fursuit. (That total is rough, I've had to go through several revisions on the fucking thing and the costs add up) Yes I do fap to assorted furry/scalie/whatever you want to call it porn. We all have things we like. I am just willing to spend money to further my enjoyment of what I do, be it sexually inclined or not.

When I go to a convention it's not about the sex. Although I will admit I do tend to get laid there, but eh, I'm not a fat slob, and shower regularly, doesn't make it very hard. Anyways, the con is mostly about picking up fun trinkets, cheap art, and fur suiting till I drop. Getting all the love and attention I crave, but am unable to amass throughout the rest of the year due to my shitty social skills and absolute lack of regular, non fuckbuddy friends. Being in suit, there is no "social standards" it's run around, get pics and hugs from all sorts of cute girls and guys."

I know that you have pets. Tell our readers what pets you have and how important they are for you.

fuzzum111:

"Well, prior to my move I had 2 black cats. 1 long hair, 1 short hair. The short haired name was Sadie, and she thought she was a big black panther. tolerated the family and hated everyone else. Blacky was the long hair and he loved evvvveryone. You walk in the door he's all up in your legs loving on you and welcoming you to the house. He now lives with my older brother, while Sadie was given to our neighbors.

As of right now I acquired a new feline friend, whom I adopted from an elderly couple. I've named her Angel. She is a long haired, calico colored, Norwegian forest kitty. With extremely long, soft, thick fur. It's the utmost of luxury and so very tender and sensitive. She has claws, so I do tend to end up scratched and bleeding when we play but she is a great cat. Loves to be played with, chase stuff and be active with you. And when she is affectionate, damn is she affectionate. I lay down in bed and she is in my chest kneading me, laying down and nuzzling er head into the crook of my neck, showing me all the love in the world. It's simply so adorable and sweet. Even had her fall asleep on my chest once, I dozed off for a little while too. It was cute wen she woke up and was startled to find herself there.

That's my cat for ya."

You stated in the past that you want to be a professional baker. Is that still your goal or did you accomplish it?

fuzzum111:

"I never became a professional baker. I was a baker at a grocery store for a solid 2 years. I went into work at 3 am, and came out around 9 am every day I worked, which ended up being 3-4 days a week, maybe more if I got lucky. It was fun dealing wth the night people, we all got along great and loved to tell stories, or talk about recent events, be it store related or not. We had a good time, and my bakery crew I worked with was fun as well. We joked, laughed, teased, hooted and hollered all morning and we were almost always in good spirits. It did not start out that way, but I grew on my team, and they grew on me. We ended up living to work with one another, and it was really sad when I had to leave. I was a good enough baker that any time I cal my manager to talk or say hi, she asks if I am in town so she can re-hire me. She apparently cannot find anyone good enough to replace me that doesn't make an absolute mess of the whole situation."

Lately there has been a lot of talking about Newgrounds decline in popularity. Where do you see Newgrounds going within the next years and what would you do to "bring Newgrounds back on track"?

fuzzum111:

"Like I said in a recent thread. Newgrounds is slowly falling into obscurity. We don't attract most of the major flash crowd that we once did, and we don't because we don't have a good system in place. Yes we offer ad revenue for any user that gets hits. Hell I got like 5 cents or something from my audio when it was briefly viewed. However, that is simply not enough, there is not enough traffic to Newgrounds for major flash submitters to really want to continue to use us, in any kind of exclusivity to really get there stuff out there. I don't blame them. Our system is flawed, we don't punish people for not blamming absolute crap, we don't have high standards for what passes in the portal Shit, epileptic flashes, or lines floating in a circle, gets though with like 3.00's or higher, because no one wants to vote 0.

Our blams per day are at >10 a day. Of the 100's of shitty things submitted. If we want to try and improve the site, we need a better, more strict system, we need to reward and encourage those who submit quality work. We need to make sure that those who work hard, are seen, and encouraged to make more. Sadly many of the popular or god tier artists that made the most amazing stuff don't even care about flash anymore."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

fuzzum111:

"I don't know honestly? Like I've told you guys lots and lots of things. I am an abhorrently open person. I don't really have any real secretes or things like that. I'm into all sorts of weird fetishes, and have no problem sharing , I'll refrain because I don't want to gross out my readers, all 3 of them ;P (FYI it's not scat or like messing diapers I am into). However, yea I mean like, let me think. You all know I am a furry, you know I am into shemales, and asses. I have seriously contenplated suicide` multiple times due to lack of work, and hating the human race as a whole. How we run things, the way we treat each other, even knowing thee are people doing "good" things for us. Oh well I am a very selfish being."

What can we expect from you in the future, fuzzum111?

fuzzum111:

"I don't know what to tell ya, if this job holds and I am able to save money, I will happily be buying a new computer, going to more conventions, fixing up my R/C hobby so I can do more with it,. Making videos of said R/C hobby, possibly more? I am a lazy person, who loves his internet, and is slowly becoming a fatass, there really isn't much to expect out of me. I am content working normal, average paying jobs and have no problems living like a meager person, so long as I am comfortable and not struggling to pay my bills.

The future is a crazy thing, who knows, aliens could show up, furries could be born into our world, I could just up and poof one day ripped into the rift of a world in the rim. We just don't know what the future holds, who holds it and how much longer we all really have."

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username kanef?

kanef:

"Found it through Weebls stuff around october 2008. I joined cause I learned that Flash was the program used to make all those movies on the Frontpage, I wanted to do stuff like that. Aaand as luck would have it, my mum's old computer had a copy of Flash MX on it. (Probably got it back in like, 2002, don't ask) I used it to make my first few flashes and, obviously, they got blammed to shit and back.

Later on I stopped focusing so hard on flash and took up BBS posting. only started making loads of posts since may 2012 or some shit. Now that's when I became the most loved/hated/ignored poster on the BBS.

Also my username? Back in November 2008 I used kanodude42for everything, that name blew hard. Changed it to kane-animation cause I was doing animated shit back then and it's what I labelled everything with. THEN I started posting in lowercase and because I don't want my real name to be obvious, i changed it to kanef; also cause i was using that alot at the time and still do."

tl;dr : I'm an indecisive fucker. That or I grew up, idk."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

kanef:

"Yeah. Loads.

As mentioned before I wanted to make flash and then I posted on the BBS more. I also stopped being stupid in 2012 and switched to cool and edgy lowercase typing.

Real life is a different story. when I came here I was some quasi-autistic shit interested in animation with a love for portal and circa-2007 meymes. Later I learned to stop spewing stupid memes in 2012 because I grew up and doing that was stupid. My music taste began to develop in 2009 and grew from there.

Also I cuss nowadays, cause why the fucking fuck should I not"

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

kanef:

"When I first joined I was friends with Nathan and figter cause they were part of a flash community back then, also cause they were fun to talk to back then I guess.

Later on they went seperate ways and I became friends with a new bunch of BBS shitposters. It started with Spirit cause he was one of the few guys on the BBS who liked gumball, now it's different reasons. Also I'm cool with rummy0 (r.i.p. ;_;) cause he was cleaning up the bbs and also being really trill, Natick cause he's a fucken IDM patrician, BasedBubbus cause he likes me, and Bumfodder, AnonymousOfCali (r.i.p. ;_:) and Yert are just trill niqqas I hang with."

Also I like all these guys, for various reasons. I'm cool with plenty of BBS regs too."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

kanef:

"Alot of those Madness fans/9gag retards/ponyfags like SileBt-Sam, dawcio510, tox, Xenomit or ThedubStepFreak cause they're fuckin annoying and immature. I know I left out a lot but there's just too many to name, hint: they might have "madness" in their username.

As for the BBS, nobody really hates me, although some posters are plebs I don't mind them really."

And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

kanef:

"Only reason I go here anymore, some trill guys hang there and some really good threads, even though I've seen shit users I still hang around for the cool guys. I only really visit general/C&C cause the other ones are about creating shit or vidya, which don't interest me at all. Also if you get the chance you should find some way to contact rummy0 (deleted account) and interview him, I'd thank you forever if you did.

Although I still prefer 4chan's forums."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

kanef:

"Yes. Every single one of them. Hell, I even love UltraBear because he BBS b& me for calling Tom Fulp a faggot, and it's the only ban I ever got. From a mod that barely even posts. also EyeLovePoozy has hilarious lock messages and I generally get on fine with most Forum/Chat mods."

If so, what kind of moderator?

kanef:

"The only kind of mod worth becoming is a Forum or Chat mod, trust me on this. Although I wouldn't care if I became a mod here or not, I'd prefer to be a mod on 4chan so I can sticky threads and put up big red (USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST) notices. It might be a fun experience to be a mod for a week so I could see ban user buttons and post in the coveted "mod forum"."

What do you like and what is not so good?

kanef:

"It caught me off guard at first but I immensely prefer it to the old design, everything is so much cooler and more detailed now. All the new features like feeds and friend systems and project systems are really handy too and I can finally check on BBS replies to see who's calling me a faggot or not, or if Tom Fulp responded to my news comment. I wish they'd bring back userpage banners though. hopefully some day. Also if it wasn't for this redesign I wouldn't be using this angel emoticon so fucking much."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You make music. Tell our readers how you started making music and what plans you have in the future.

kanef:

"I started back in 2008 when I got Fruity Loops for christmas. My early stuff was really crap and aimless just like my music taste HA. Then I discovered all that IDM shit and started making very similar stuff, from about 2010 onwards. Later on my sound developed as I got grips with the program.

I also listen to a whole bunch of different crap, shown in my last.fm library, which should give insight into why my music sounds that way.

As for recent stuff, I discovered that /mu/ did a music collab project every saturday (known as The Dicklick Brigade so I did tracks for that.

Trapped in 2AM was the first of these tracks, submitted to Third-Rate Beach Boys harmonies. It was an obvious attempt at vaporwave but I tried digging into the genre more by sound design, also experimenting in audacity.

I don't remember why I made free in 2PM but I like it.

I also did a track they called "fandroid literally smokes cock LITERALLY smokes cock" on Lana Del Rey Stillborn, but it's actually called the DRK and will appear on my debut EP.

I have a debut EP coming soon, it'll be done whenever I get my junior cert out of the way. Or never, idk. I plan to do a follow-up EP called "the SOPHOMORE extended play" TBA 2013/2014 if I get that done.

In the future I hope to sign to some label like Warp Records and actually incorporate live instruments and lyrics into my stuff, but now I'm just fucking with computers to see what I can do. I will also plan to SHAKE the very HABITUAL of music. I'll also try to get a few guys and form a band called Pritt Stick.

P.S. my uncle is also interested in music and so was my grandad, so it's a family thing."

I couldn't help but notice that you like using the angel emote. What fascinates you about this emote and what is your opinion on the Newgrounds emotes?

kanef:

"Rummy0 used the kiss one alot so I thought I'd use one to sign my posts too. I really dunno why I use it, probably goes well with my personality/80% of my posts as shown through studies also it looks fuken cool.

Newgrounds emotes have real cool designs, they're some of the best ones I've seen on any website (thanks Luis)"

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

kanef:

"Yeah, I have some sort of assburgers, but you'd barely notice it really. Got diagnosed with it when I was seven but it's less severe these days, I just think differently to most people my age and have a few habits."

What can we expect from you in the future, kanef?

kanef:

"Hopefully I'll take up flash/art again and make an animated TV show with loads of feels. Also I mentioned things in the music section about signing to a label, gonna do that shit.

When I'm 18 and not underage b& I might get a tripcode on 4chan and start posting there, maybe even leave NG altogether.

Also more posts here and shit, I hope to get 10k and see the coveted "10k forum".

thank you and goodnight

-kanef, king of the trill v4.20"

Interview with kanef

Posted by Asandir - May 20th, 2013

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user KatMaestro.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Elitistinen and why did you change it to KatMaestro?

KatMaestro:

"I first heard of Newgrounds back during late 2007, while I was searching for flash animation and indie music. It was Madness Combat that brought me attentively to NG. Although the lively life in the General also forum gave me strong attentions, I never had an intention to sign up, because I felt like there wouldn't have much need to do so. However this thought ended last year when my close friend, a regular in Audio forum, convinced me to sign up. Another factor that urged to sign up was the huge redesign. Surely I shouldn't miss all the changes and features of this wonderful community.

Elitistinen is Finnish, literally means 'elitist' in English. I used to be an academic elitist, and I still keep little attitudes on this matter. It's also my nickname in for me during my time in a metal band. It's not provocative enough to be unique but it is still a hard-to-find username.

The decision which led me to decide that I should change the name, was caused by a small meet last Friday. So I was walking down the street to look for a lunch place after the Pride parade. Because I bought a cheap headsets from dollar store, therefore people could hear anything I play when close by. And there I was, playing a remastered version of Beyond Machine loudly because it was noisy on the street. A teenager who approached me and asked if I knew the composer... I was like an idiot, first I stood there with questions... then I blushed. So he told me that 'the composer' had a long name which he was trying to pronounce it! I was shamefully standing there and finally I told him 'the composer'... the jerk who put that long name was right in front of his face. We had some conversation and so on.

It was very awkward and I really need to change the name to something more familiar.

'Maestro Cat' is too common. So I changed it to KatMaestro, a rare name which also very familiar to people. Everyone loves cat, right? :3"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

KatMaestro:

"I changed a lot since I started to join conversations in NG forums. I started to become more aggressive, cynical, sarcastic and joke-magnetic than I usually shouldn't be. On the positive side, I also have become more open, comfortable and ready for any conversation. And this had helped to fuel my confidence in real life. NG community is so unique for me that I rather spend my time on here than to sharpen my Perl skill."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

KatMaestro:

"There are some very interesting users that I keep close connections with. Such as abbiegale, FairSquare, Cyberdevil, SourJovis, Zanthas, eatmeatleet, wandschrank, KevinHR & dem0lecule. Some of them are my close friends on NG. Seeing Cyberdevil posts & comments always give me joys. He's just one of a few people on NG that I pay vast amounts of respect to."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

KatMaestro:

"I only don't like those who blocked me because of my trollish comments. Ha! Far too many sensitive people considered me as worthless based on my first comment. Sigh!... The only user who was so close to be my real enemy was ma1achi, a Mac boy who bashed anyone who goes against his ideology. I had some unsetled feuds with ma1achi. So glad the moderators got rid of him."

KatMaestro:

"I have nothing against the General, Politics and Video Game; they are just as chaotic as perfect, just like what I have always wished for. The only forum that bothers me the most is Audio forum. The place is full of jerks. Either someone makes a thread on suggestions that's only good for themselves, or someone else creates troubles in a perfectly good thread which resulting moderators lock it. Moderators at Audio forum practice favoritism. Too much authoritarian is going on.

I prefer an totally democratic forum, which General, fits perfectly. Users can speak almost whatever they want to. Most mods openly allow even the most sensitive topics flow freely. Users are a mix of all classes and types of people. It is so diversity and indirectly represents for the openness of Newgrounds.

I would like you to interview CloseThyDoor. This guy is quite an interesting character. Most of his topics are quite deep and thoughtful (there's a myth that his stuff are all copypasta, I hope they aren't true). Also, BrokenDeck, he's the new BBS mod, quite strict, and I believe he has a lot of secrets. And, 372, a new star in the General with great posts."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

KatMaestro:

"Some moderators on the forum should behave less childish, especially those are new to BBS modding. These moderators could go more bombastic than any troll they have banned. I feel the gasp for powers when younger mods first get on the crown. And the Audio mods. From what I see so far, the Audio mods are worse than Art and Flash mods add together. Favoritism pollutes the air of NG community, created by these Audio jerky mods. Despise the small negativity, I personally think the majority of mods are doing the great job."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

KatMaestro:

"I wouldn't like to become a moderator. I enjoy my time being a good lamb so far."

You are an audio artist. Tell our readers how you started making music and what kind of work we can expect in the future from you.

KatMaestro:

"I first started to write music in the late 90s, when I follow my older brother to demoparties. A few years later, I began to write music for demoscene. Some of my tunes, which were chiptune, rang anonymously throughout cracktros & chipdisks. I was pretty unknown in the music scene and remain the same. I became more active during school times. I joined a heavy metal band and gained quite a lot of fames. However I remained in the dark afterwards.

My music has styles which mix between demoscene music, contemporary, trailer-ish and metal music. I want to release little of both chiptune and experimental cinematic music. As for chiptune, my fans would enjoy the music of 90s demoscene style. As for experimental cinematic, there are quite some thoughtful and provocative pieces mix with trailer orchestra I would like to show."

You were once a member of a music band. Could you imagine being in a band again and making music for a living?

KatMaestro:

"I would like to return to full time music work and either join or found a band. This time I would be more open than just heavy metal. It could be a band of Swedish folk music, a folk rock band or a full blast death metal band. I could play Irish low whistle, concert flute, violin, guitar and on my way to master nyckelharpa, a Swedish bow instrument. Unfortunately, I'm just a sad system administrator with little time to complete my musical dream."

Laws like ACTA and CISPA are dangering the freedom of the internet. How do you think will the internet change in the next 10 years and what effect will it have on society?

KatMaestro:

"The Internet is going to become more restrictive, and this is unavoidable. No matter how hard we fight for, things are settled in place. ACTA fails, they now have CISPA. If in the near future someone will remove CISPA, they will have something else. The more people fight the surveillance, the more it becomes powerful. It is an inevitable fate of digital communication. The only way to win this fight is to become anonymous. Go anonymous and communicate in the dark. Go out of the foreground and become ghosts in the background. Use proxies or vpns to hide your communication, use encryptions to secure your data, gain more knowledge on computer security. Governments already snoop on us decades ago, and these bills they pass is just to legalize their dirty jobs.

Protect yourselves, folks, because if you don't no one will do so for you. The Internet is not going to be free. It never is."

KatMaestro:

"I am much more friendly than what spills out of my mouth/mind. I love Swedish culture, which is quite opposite on my latest opinions on Swedes. I have a good marksmanship that I spend on rabbit, deer and moose; if necessary, thieves. I love lingonberry vodka, a drink which accurately and humorously symbolizes Finnish."

I also shall help out those who's in need for privacy & technology, such as proxy/vpn/programming/misc. If you need any help, please PM me or post on my news post anytime, I'll try my best to reply as detailed as possible."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user sweet21.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username sweet21?

sweet21:

"I found Newgrounds long long ago. When I was around 5 or 6 we had a neighbor, we were all poor as dirt but this kid was the only one with a computer. It was like when you were the first kid on the block with a new console, everyone was excited as hell. We played that shitty version of pinball windows had but he showed us Newgrounds and we played Pico and Nene's interactive suicide. We moved away and for many years I never used a computer again. I eventually forgot about Newgrounds. Later in middle school I was still poor as dirt but I was a gamer, I couldn't buy full price games so I had to rummage through the bargain bin quite alot.

I found Alien Hominid, last copy, $10. The box looked enticing enough and the art looked kinda cool. When I started up the game I recognized the Newgrounds logo, but I couldn't remember why it was so familiar. Oh well, I played the shit out of alien hominid anyway.

And finally, afew more years passed, and I went to a party with boring people. I was too young to stay home alone so my parents just brought me to boring old people parties. And a couple of the jock kids were watching Youtube videos. One of them wanted to show the others 'Queers of war' here on Newgrounds. The tank. THE TANK! I recognized it! HOLY SHIT! Queers of war was hilarious and when everyone left I browsed around. I found all the old games, Picos school, Nene's interactive suicide, and I found new ones, like Gun Run (or whatever it was called) and Mr. happy face. I just browsed every single god damn collection, but was most interested in 'Newgrounds history.' As a result I watched everything Newgrounds stood for at the time. Salad fingers, Dad N' me, Weebl videos, Tankmen, Stampers crap. Plus the website itself was a game, it had a level up system and everything. I had to join, so I did. Don't be fooled by my signup date, I've been here a long time.

My username? It was a placeholder really. I joined a website by the name of Deezer back when I was internet stupid, its exclusive to France now. It was an internet radio basically. I went under the alias 'sweet tooth' but I deleted my profile. I wanted to rejoin but I would lose all my friends. So to get my old friends to recognize me I tried to make a name that was very similar. Sweet21 was born from that. I've grown attached to my name though, it has a decent ring to it. Its my identity now for everything on the internet."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

sweet21:

"Yeah I changed, I was a fucking idiot, holy shit. Old me was an attention whore and a desperate sack of shit, thank god I'm not old me anymore. I made bad jokes and did dumb shit that made people hate me. Now a days im more serious, I have a sense of humor thats kinda sarcastic now and my overall personality is serious. Im genuinely caring, I care about alot things, maybe I care too much. If someones having trouble I cant help but try to ask what it is or see if I can help. Im also too generous, I aint got jack and I still throw money at people if I can. I dont expect anything in return, but I wont refuse a gift. Get my a Steam gift if you have to, if not how about a cup of warm milk and a blowjob? You get a pat on the back if you get that reference."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

sweet21:

"I find Jester to be hilarious. I hung out with TheMajorMel in the NG chat. In fact I like alot of people form the chat, blauwwolkje, Knights, and BloodCoveredWolf were all pretty cool. I've also had some moderate conversations here and there with BrokenPaw, I made some drawings for him once, and I play alot of Left 4 Dead 2 with Wavepad. How do they affect me? I dunno, if they're funny they brighten up my day I suppose."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

sweet21:

"I stick mostly to general, its the most entertaining. I visit video games pretty often and clubs & crews for the TF2 crew and Anime club. Someone you should interview isssssssss Jester. Go Kancho all the info out of his ass. Lets see how smart he can get in one interview."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

sweet21:

"They do a good job. I cant comment much about they, they do what they are suppose to and they do what they have to do right. There isn't much criticism I can give and I dont want to jump on any bandwagons. Except the 'Poozy is a bastard' bandwagon, but I admit he still does a decent job."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

sweet21:

"I feel like I would make a good mod, im definitely on here long enough to oversee alot of things. I would be a forum mod or something, maybe an audio mod somewhere down the line."

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

sweet21:

"I think its great, it looks cool and stuff. It brought a good amount of improvements and definitely makes browsing games and movies easier. What I dont like is the forums still dont have a fucking 'respond without quote' button. In fact there are a couple of simple problems that can probably be fixed rather quickly but they're not getting fixed. Feels like something I can do in the span of an hour and I dicked around with dream weaver once."

You are a supporter of Newgrounds and have bought a good amount of T-shirts in Newgrounds store. What other products would you like to see there? Would you like to see more userpage cusomization options for Newgrounds supporters?

sweet21:

"I would like to see....more shirts. Shirts are cool. Extra options for supporters? Lets not make exclusive things, otherwise people will feel there's a Newgrounds 'premium' and I wouldn't want that. This website is based on equality, lets not destroy that by giving preference to payers."

You are an artist. When did you start drawing? Will you post your art on Newgrounds in the future?

sweet21:

"I drew alot in class when I was young because I would get bored easily and I didn't pay attention to the teacher. I liked drawing and continued to do it. I plan to post my art on Newgrounds but im not good enough for an official piece, so I stick mostly to my art dump. I get feedback there, I dont want to upload until I feel I am good enough to provide quality work."

What can we expect from you in the future, sweet21?

sweet21:

"You can expect to see me on the forums. I am taking piano and am studying music theory and such. I want to compose music, currently I have Famitracker so I can make chiptunes. I have made some 8-bit covers, like TF2 main theme, lost woods theme, and Terras theme from FF6. After I get good and develop a form a pitch I can begin composing original works. I dont want to upload my covers, they are not my work. I simply played someone else's work. And if I feel truely satisfied with my drawings you will see some of them in the art portal."
