Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

The user that I interview today has been recommended by Criminal-23, whose interview you should have read earlier. If you didn't, go here. Anyhow, you will learn more about MaartenC's music and why he doesn't submit his audio to Newgrounds anymore.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username MaartenC?

MaartenC:

"I believe I found Newgrounds in '09 via You tube, with the video 'Brawl Taunts' by Kirbopher. The video mentioned the line 'So that's why he sounds like a 14-year-old on Newgrounds.' Me being 14 at the time, decided to check it out and there I was. I visited Newgrounds on a regular basis for more videos, or even games. After lurking for a while, I decided to make an account, and so MaartenC was created. I named my account MaartenC, because my first name is Maarten and my last name begins with a 'C'. Now that's original, right?"

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

MaartenC:

"Well, sometimes I look back at certain forum posts (or reviews), and experience a slight moment of shame. I have changed over the two years, but not much. I think I have gotten less-caring about the world, but that's it."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

MaartenC:

"Sure. There's Criminal-23, 123mine123, Amaranthus and SamZee, a friend from real life."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

MaartenC:

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

MaartenC:

"Well, I often go to the General Forum, but I like to visit the Writing Forum too, so now and then. There's some pretty interesting stuff there. I might like to see one of the previous 'liked users' get interviewed, but SamZee not, because he's rarely on."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

MaartenC:

"I think they do a good job, but sometimes too good. I've gotten about eight bans in 1,5 years of being on a forum, with at least half of them coming from EyeLovePoozy."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

MaartenC:

"Absolutely not. I would be too loose with the rules and I'm too often absent from Newgrounds to do that job right."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The redesign is finally here. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

MaartenC:

"I like that everything is a lot more colorful, but that's also the immediate downside. I really loved how simple Newgrounds was before, plus the current levels are... just less cool than the previous ones... I do really like how the audio portal worked out with all the new features."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You are an audio artist and have submitted 3 songs. How did you start making music. Can we expect more music from you in the future?

MaartenC:

"Haha! Just so you know, I'm banned from submitting audio to the portal. The only way for me to submit is via collabs. Also, the only serious upload was the basshunter remix, together with Criminal-23.. The other two are from Milobased, together with... well a lot of people who did an awesome job at... nothing? (including me :D)"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I often hear that zero-bombing is a big issue on the audio portal. Were you ever a victim of such actions? What do you think about this matter?

MaartenC:

"I've never really seen examples of zero-bombing, but I know a few people who suffer heavily because of it. My opinion is that shit happens, but it's still a pretty pathetic way to bring your own music to the people."

You art sketches revolve mostly about Animes. Which anime series is your most favourite? Do you prefer Mangas or animes?

MaartenC:

"Oh, that's a tough question. Two actually. I think either 'Bleach' or 'Deadman Wonderland' is my favorite. Can't really decide though. I like anime better than manga, but it's so damn time-consuming... I do think the thread I created about it helped me decide my choice about the matter: I'll just read the manga and if I like it very much, I'll see whether I'll watch the anime."

Judging from your favourites and your first post, you seem to like Pokémon. Tell our readers your opinion about the video games(the main ones).

MaartenC:

"Ah, I love the (early) video games from Pokémon. My first game was ' Pokémon Emerald' and I've played it more than any other game in my life. The series sucks, though. I often enjoy a parody, and Pokémon ones seem to appeal to me the most."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

MaartenC:

"I used to lie a lot on the internet (in real life too). My first few forum posts consist for about 80% of lies :D"

What can we expect from you in the future, MaartenC?

MaartenC:

"I'll be adding some more drawing, if I feel like it, perhaps upload more audio, and of course, I'll be posting on the forums! Thanks for interviewing me, by the way. It was fun to type it all out!"

Interview with MaartenC

Posted by Asandir - March 12th, 2012

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

Today we will read a very healthy interview. You will learn more about the awesomeness of Broccoli and the user who named himself after this vegetable, Bobbybroccoli. If you want to know more about his comics, start reading :3

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Bobbybroccoli?

Bobbybroccoli:

"I found Newgrounds in grade 8 (aged 12 or so in 2009) when some friends and I were working on a school project, and they wanted music for a video we were making. They happened to show me The thwomps movie because it had Requiem for a dream in it. I decided to visit the site to view more of their Mario parodies. I eventually branched out into general movies, mostly through the Frontpage. I also realized that the site had versions of many of the games I grew up playing on other sites, so I loved it here. I guess I joined because I really wanted to keep medals from games and write reviews (something I feel I should do more). I chose Bobbybroccoli as my username since I was trying to advertise my newly created website at the time, and it was easy to remember. I generally use Bobbybroccoli on almost all sites now, since it is almost never taken."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Bobbybroccoli:

"I do believe this, yes. I look back on old posts and reviews and see how naive I was, but I also find it astonishing how much I used to plug my site (like, a new news post each week). I also think I'm more calm now. I used to get pissed off when Chdonga told me to kill myself, but now she's one of my favourite users. My point is that Newgrounds taught me to realize what 's a joke and what's not in the harsh world of the internet. In real life I changed a bit. I'm slightly more cautious about what I say in real life, because I've been had some experiences on Newgrounds that taught me how an uninformed mind can get you roasted on a stake."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you ?

Bobbybroccoli:

"I like a lot of users actually. Off the top of my head Light is a cool guy who has great forum posts and I often comment on his newsposts. Chdonga is an underrated General and VG reg who can be quite funny. The-Great-One is just an all-around great poster, VG or General. Lionelion is one of my closest friends on here in the VG forum, and on our 3DS'es. tyler2513 is a VG reg who loves Nintendo like I do and has the 29 most reviews on Newgrounds. Flaminsquirrel is one the best VG forum regs for his humour, calm collected arguments and his awesome username. Squidbit a funny guy who I love reading his posts in General. Gagsy, everyone loves her. No explanation needed."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Bobbybroccoli:

"At one point I hated Suprememessage and we got into a large PM war that got out of hand and we both said some unreasonable things so we just didn't read each other's posts etc... I felt bad for this, so a couple of days after the redesign I PM'ed him to apologize, and now we're on good terms. Addict is a poster I first saw when he was nominated for funniest user at the mid 2011 BBS awards. I always found his stuff to be overrated and unfunny to the point where he was just being a dick. One time Gimmick and I took him on in a thread where he tried to BS explanations as to why he 5 voted everything. I don't want to post the link to that thread here, since it sounds like I'm only pointing out the bad sides to him here, but I will say that lately he seems to have changed for the better, atleast not being a dick-wise."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Bobbybroccoli:

"The forums here are very different than other forums on other sites. There are no messy sigs bigger than the post itself, no edit buttons (thank god) and everyone seems to be able to take jokes better. Needless to say these forums are my favourites, but mostly because of the users who post here. If you visit the VG forum at all, you might have noticed that I post a lot of threads there. I also post there a lot. I also won biggest Nintendo fanboy for 2011, something I'm proud of. I'm not saying I dislike the other forums, but politics aren't my thing, Club and Crews have only a few clubs I like posting in (mostly VG related), Wi/Ht? I visit a bit, and General is great, but my real forte is video games and their related content. I try change the stereotype that VG forums are official game threads and flamewars by posting alternative threads like "Favourite spinoff" or "Your new body (your head on the last boss you fought)" among countless others, ranging in success. As for people you should interview, tyler2513 and Chdonga are both very interesting regulars."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not

Bobbybroccoli:

"The moderators here are mostly great, and even the ones who aren't that great get the job done (I'll let the readers take some guesses here). Mods I will point out that I really like are Murray who is very responsible and a great poster, Malachy who is probably the best example of "though love" on Newgrounds, Auz who is a great mod but also loves Nintendo like I do and is the mod I talk to the most, and honourable mentions go out to NEVR, reverend, and TurkeyOnAStick."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Bobbybroccoli: "I would love to be a moderator in such a great site, but I'm afraid I don't have any of the required qualifications. I'm not experienced enough to be a BBS mod, I rarely go into the audio portal to be an audio mod, I only have a bronze whistle making me a bit under qualified for a review mod, but if Newgrounds still needs some icons made, I suppose I could help out a bit. Point is, I have some work to do if I ever want to be a mod."

The redesign is here, finally. How do you like the new design? Are there things that you don't like?

Bobbybroccoli:

"I really like it. The actual design looks beautiful thanks to the skins (I wish I could choose one for the whole site though), and the new touches like new emoticons and level icons add to the perfection. The separation of movie and games portal is a nice touch, and the inclusion of the classic portal makes it easier to B/P. Overall, features like the notifications could alert people to newspage comments or submission reviews as well as artist activity, and temporary missing features like the whistle for UJ submissions are an inconvenience, but the new site features really outweighs those few negatives."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You have your own website bobby-broccoli.com. Tell our reader about your site and its awesome features!

Bobbybroccoli:

"I went to a summer camp in 2010 where I got started on writing my comic strip Bobby Broccoli, and the site was started so I could publically display my comics. I have a news page telling people about my new updates and life in between updates, a comics making page where I teach people my style and how to write humour and draw images like I do, I have my comics pages where all my comics (440 at the moment) are displayed, a characters page, a link to my Bobby Broccoli Facebook page, and a link to the demo version of the game my friend is making using sprites I made for him. Basically, this site is the where you can learn everything about the world's (probably) first comic strip about food."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I read on your site that you buy comic collections. Which comic is your favourite? Is there a comic author whose work inspired you the most for your own webcomic?

Bobbybroccoli:

"I have a ton of comics I like, so get ready for a long list. Foxtrot, For better or for Worse, Zits, Doonsbury, Sherman's lagoon, Pooch Cafe, Dilbert, Calvin and Hobbes, Big Nate, Sally Forth, all in some little way influence my story telling, my humour, my drawing style, my interests, etc... If I had to choose one comics to read for the rest of my life though, it would be Pearls before Swine. The drawing style, the different character personalities, the humour are all things I love, and though I wouldn't say I wrote Bobby Broccoli to emulate Stephen Pastis' (the author of the strip) style, it sure turned out to be similar to his strip (I promise I didn't copy anything from him)."

When my spider sense doesn't betray me, then you are also a video gamer. Judging from your passion for comics, I would say that you like Visual Novel games. Which one is your favourite visual novel game? Do you also think that this genre was quite succesful on the Nintendo DS, with games like Hotel Dusk and 9 Doors, 9 Persons, 9 Hours?

Bobbybroccoli:

"Why yes, I am a gamer, how did you know? To be honest, 999 is the only visual novel I actually played. It looked quite interesting from some articles I read, so I bought it for a car trip. It was fantastic to say the least, and it is hard to describe without revealing large spoilers for it but I highly recommend it. As for other visual novel games, I haven't played an others, but crime stories interest me, so Phoenix Wright, Hotel Dusk, Professor Layton, and the upcoming sequel to 999, Good people die, are games I recommend based in concept alone. If you have any other inquiries into Nintendo videogames, you won't find anyone more willing to recommend some underrated games to you."

Please reveal your favourite broccoli recipe(s), so that my readers can enjoy the greatness of this fantastic vegetable :)

Bobbybroccoli:

"I must admit, I have an insatiable hunger for broccoli, so here are some recommendations. Broccoli Chicken Divan is a fantastic casserole that has chicken, broccoli, cream of mushroom soup sauce, bread crumbs and melted cheese all on a bed of egg noodles that is very filling on a cold winter day. There is another meal combination of rice, chicken breasts, broccoli, and a lemon/butter/chives/garlic sauce (be creative and make your own) that is oh so good mixed together. I will admit that I have an unhealthy love for store bought cream of broccoli soup for lazy people."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Bobbybroccoli:

"I have freckles, brown eyes, and brown hair, I love science, have 8 pet fishes, play squash and love to rock climb, I play piano and saxophone, I'm Canadian of Scottish descent, and I love videogame music."

What can we expect from you in the future, Bobbybroccoli?

Bobbybroccoli:

"More posting in the VG forums, perhaps some art pieces based on some new Bobby Broccoli characters, regular duties of a Newgrounds member, and free hugs for all."

One of the best Broccoli recipies has been revealed. Furthermore, we learned that BobbyBroccoli writes comics and where he finds his inspiration for them. He is a a user who joined 2010 but managed to leave a good impression on the forums.

Q: How did you find Newgrounds and why did you join?

A:

The-Great-One:

"I found this site around 2004. I was on a site called Video Game Director's Cut (VGDC) and one of their flashes "Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom" brought me to Newgrounds. From then I browsed the different areas and I wanted to do some reviewing, so I signed up in 2006 and I have been here since."

Ryanson:

"I actually came to Newgrounds, repeatedly, because of these DBZ dress-up games. Mmm, Bulma was my favorite -- if only because of the cheap cartoon nudity. You see, these "dress up" games were more popular than not for the fact that on the more mature ones you could dress your favorite characters down. This particular one had funny quotes when you clicked on her tummy, her nipples, or her vag... but that's neither here nor there.

Now I can only assume the rest of the story from here -- I joined because I eventually kept coming to Newgrounds more and more, and actually looking around at the games and movies and stuff. My interests at the time were limited then, but I kept coming and was pissed than as someone who didn't sign up, I couldn't vote. Finally, I had that I could stand and I couldn't stand any more -- I signed up. I assume the video that got me to sign up was an animated music video for the song "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful" by Reel Big Fish. It was a collaboration, and focused on various video games. I say this because I remember this song was on the front page the day I signed up."

NekoMika:

"I was about a 13 and a couple of weeks old and I was at my dad's apartment (when he was still living in one anyways) and I kind of just got tired of playing and making crappy movies in windows movies maker using MS Paint and sound recorder. So I began to use the internet and just went to Yahoo chat rooms goofing off and just getting a good laugh from seeing what all people said in them.

However after a bit of that I decided to look up some Mario and Sonic flashes from that time and came across this and my dad thought it was hilarious anyways. Then I began to explore the site curious of what all it had and came across a few things I seemed to enjoy then such as the All Your Base meme and Animutations by the guy that would later do Lemon Demon, Potter Puppet Pals, and Brodyquest which I have enjoyed almost all of so far as well.

Then I decided to sign up so I could have some cool looking level icons and back then, my username didn't look to great either sadly. I like the way it is now though. It looks a whole lot better now than it did then."

Atlas:

"I found Newgrounds through my friend Eric who introduced me to Egoraptor and ONey animations on Youtube and then he told me about Newgrounds and all the animations there. I originally signed up with willywonkarocks1 as my username but then abandoned the account and started over with J-Rex."

Q: Newgrounds has good aspects, but also bad ones. Could you tell our readers one thing that you dislike about Newgrounds and another that you like the most?

A:

The-Great-One:

"It is hard to dislike something about Newgrounds, but some people of the community are either not good or just flat out stupid. I guess the one thing I like most about Newgrounds is the Flash and Audio Portals. I truly wish more people would visit both of those places, especially the Audio Portal."

Ryanson:

"I dislike that there is less Ryanson."

NekoMika:

"I don't really dislike too much about Newgrounds. If there is anything I really don't like is those cookie cutter accounts which seem to keep popping every week with new crap. Back in 2009 there was possibly only about 2 or 3 of them and no one though anything of them. Fast forward a couple of years and you see 6 of the 10 top contributors are cookie cutter accounts with most of their flash submissions having a score range from 1.6 to 3.4+ range strangely. That and instead of just 2 or 3 cookie cutter accounts there is about 35+ of them now sadly.

I like almost everything else about Newgrounds though, the Review Request Club, Audio Portal, forums, flash portal, and just almost all of the site in general. However if I had to choose one I enjoy the most I would either be saying the forums or audio portal. The forums because there is almost always some interesting topics on them even though some days they feel rather boring and nothing else sadly.

Then I would say audio portal mostly because I've been enjoying music since I was roughly 3 years old and playing Resident Evil, Twisted Metal, and Super Mario World and later just a couple of not too cruddy Sonic games. Not only that but almost every day there is a lot of new audio pieces coming through, some sound bad but most of them are pretty good."

Atlas:

"One of my favorites would have to be the art portal and one thing i dislike are some of the spammers that newgrounds has attracted but with success spammers aren't uncommon.

Q: TheInterviewer account was created on the 2nd of August, 2009. How did you get the idea to start making interviews?

A:

The-Great-One:

"I was an avid reader of the Newgrounds Mag, I loved reading the interviews done with other artists here on Newgrounds. When the Newgrounds Mag stopped, I thought why should these stop? They were done by regular Newgrounds members so I thought why couldn't I? I originally started The Interviewer in 2008, but it failed. I brought it back in 2009 and it has been running strong ever since."

Ryanson:

"I didn't make The Interviewer, but I can tell you how I was contacted to be a part of it. I was a fan of Songs To Wear Pants To and was like "Hey, do you want to do an interview for Newgrounds? You've got a fanbase there." He was excited for it. I like to think that, since he got a bit bigger since my interview, I helped him. But really I didn't.

Anyway, after the interview I got a PM from The-Great-One and he was like, "Hey nice interview, I do interviews, wanna join?" I was like "Hell yeah!""

NekoMika:

"I just wished to see what it would be like and thus I interviewed WritersBlock and then recently I did a second interview with FurryNG which turned out pretty good anyways. I mostly do it since it gives a break from reviewing and allows you to take a nice look at other users and what kind of life they come from."

Atlas:

"I first started by asking i fhe could do a poxpower and I-Mockery interview and then awhile after that I asked if I could try to interview TheSJProduction but then he didn't respond so I interviewed The-Great-One and thus starts my interviewer journey."

Q: Where do you stand as a member of The Interviewer? In other words what is your purpose and what do you think of it overall?

A:

The-Great-One:

"I am the chief editor and the one who controls the account. So overall I keep everything in control. I choose other people who want to join the ranks of Interviewers, I look over their lists, and then see where we go from there. I have posted more interviews than others, but I've been doing this longer."

Ryanson:

"I did a few good interviews, then I got distracted/lost inspiration. I'm mostly just a member in-name-only at the moment. I have ideas and will move from one to the next faster than lightning, and interviewing was one of them. My opinion matters in The Interviewer at least."

NekoMika:

"I stand as the one doing the least interviews since I tend to put trying to write good reviews above other things at times and thus I've only made two so far. I do have plans to interview more users soon as well though so I have that coming.

As for purpose, I would say it is to show users a back story to other people and let them make their own thoughts and conclusions of the user for themselves while trying to entertain them a bit I would suppose."

Atlas:

"I guess I would be in ranks the lowest since I've only done I think 2 interviews and. My purpose is interviewing since that's what the interviewer is all about."

Q: How do you decide, who gets interviewed? Is there some kind of debate with the 3 other members, or have you the freedom to freely interview users, who seem interesting enough?

A:

The-Great-One:

"I look over a person's profile from all their submissions, posts, and anything else I can find. If I find that there is something interesting about their works to discuss and find out more about then I send off a PM asking for permission. Once I get a response for confirmation I go through all their stuff again and begin asking questions.

Everybody is allowed to interview others at their own will. They get to pick. However I ask that they tell me who they intend on interviewing and to share their lists with other Interviewers. That way we don't have anybody crossing and possibly confusing the interviewees with multiple questions. There is a lot of freedoms here though, but I make sure that quality is never sacrificed."

Ryanson:

"The few I did, I was just like HMMM THEY'RE BIG, HOW ABOUT THEM? TGO thinks a lot of what his fellow interviewers think though, he asks us if he should interview whoever which is really cool."

NekoMika:

"How I decide who gets interviewed? Well I pretty much want to interview those who I would feel as being notable and possibly important to one part of the sight or another. As for if there is a debate between the other 3? No there is not, we simply let The-Great-One know who we plan to be interviewing so no one will end up interviewing someone else being interviewed by another person on accident."

Atlas:

"Well i usually PM The-Great-One with a list of ideas/people interviewed and if he gives me the okay then i go on with the interview. I'm sad to say that I really haven't talked to NekoMika and Ryanson."

Q: Did it every occur, that someone declined to get interviewed by you? If so, what were the reasons? Or was there ever an interview that didn't get released, despite being finished?

A:

The-Great-One:

"For me I have had some declines through group interviews with people either being too busy or not wishing to participate. NekoMika never responded with The Review Request Club interview, Blaze-Heatnix turned down The Forum Regulars interview, and Sate was too busy for The Graffiti Crew interview.

One interview that never saw the light of day has been "Interview with 'The Room Tribute' Creators" there really wasn't a lot of substance there to really be a good interview so I scrapped it."

Ryanson:

"Oh it did. I've always wanted to interview Rina-chan. And I still call dibs on her, guys! I got her permission... but as successful as she was, I couldn't think of any GOOD questions anymore. So... yeah."

NekoMika:

"Well I've only interviewed two of them and neither declined. If I get declined in the future I may feel a bit down though seeing as they don't wish to be interviewed but will respect them and leave them be and let them do as they do on the site. If someone declines an interview I would feel it is for personal reasons, the fact they maybe just don't wish to or they don't maybe know who the interviewer is as all. Well I have an interview done at the moment but I am simply going to wait on it being put up, I am in no hurry at all. Just relaxing and enjoying the time fly by on this wonderful site."

Atlas:

"No one has every declined but some people have never answered the questions but I'm sure it's because they were busy working on other more important things. Well I originally interviewed Manly-Chicken but I asked bad questions and didn't ask enough as well so The-Great-One interviewed him and it went well."

Q: There are other users, like The Journalist, who concentrates on interviewing successful flash creators, and lately Asandir, who interviews forum users. What do you think about them?

A:

The-Great-One:

"I got word of The Journalist from Ryanson. There was a thread where people were calling him a copycat. I spoke with him and we became affiliates. I like how he does his interviews and there have been any new ones since that thread, I think he has sadly died down. As for you Asandir, I really like your interviews with the different regular members on Newgrounds. It is interesting what they have to say."

Ryanson:

"The Journalist, while I've not read his stuff, seems an interesting idea. I think most people, myself included, thought he was a rip-off of The Interviewer. Turns out, both are now... collegues? Idk.

As for Asandir... hmph. Whatta punk."

NekoMika:

"Well I certainly have no issues with either of them. However should someone be interviewed by them I will look at the questions they have been asked so I know what I should try to avoid while interviewing the person myself. If they have already told how they found Newgrounds I would certainly want to avoid questions that would be pretty much a repeat of those questions as they interview would be a bit dull since it is the same questions and answers and I doubt anyone wants to read the same ones twice in a row. As for Asandir doing interviews, they look pretty nice anyways, decent, to the point and mostly forum users which is pretty cool anyways."

Atlas:

"Well I never really read The Journalist since I don't like the how the interviews are put on the page in that weird order. The forum users interviews are very fun to read and hope to see more interviews in the future."

Q: The 28th September 2011 was a very special day for The Interviewer, since your interviews got frontpaged. How was your reaction on that milestone?

A:

The-Great-One:

"Tom and I have been talking a lot about The Interviewer, but when he messaged me and told me about that it truly surprised me and made me happy. A lot of artists, animators, and musicians strive for the Front Page and find it an honor to be there. It makes me very happy to see that The Interviewer shares part of this."

Ryanson:

"I was like OMGOMGOMG then I remembered I haven't done an interview in a while."

NekoMika:

"I was actually pretty happy to see that have happened as it felt like a long time coming anyways. I guess any kind of exposure to those artists through interviews will be really good. Almost like NG Mag all over again except no pictures on the sides and that such. Then again the words tell more of a story on the user than the pictures would too.

Really cool though since at first it started with TheInterviewer being allowed to be on front page once a week as opposed to once a month and usually the front page blog area is reserved for flash and audio artists. Really nice how TheInterviewer is an exceptional user as it has no real flash or audio to call its own."

Atlas:

"Well at first it was cool since it just said interviews but now it shows the most recent interviews and I really love it."

Q: Your very first released interview was held with Tom Fulp. Through the last years, you interviewed other famous people on Newgrounds, like Luis and Murray. How does it feel to stay in touch with them through those interviews, and did your view on them change, after you interviewed them?

A:

The-Great-One:

"My views on every person I have interviewed has changed. Because I got to know them a little bit more. That's one reason why I love doing this is because, not only am I learning so much about them, but I am passing on what they have taught me to others and I hope that my readers have learned just as much as I have."

Ryanson:

"Sometimes, sometimes not. It feels really weird, like for a bit I almost expect them not to change after the interview, so that the interview will always be relevant. But before you know it, they move on to their next project and you're like "Man... should have asked them that question. Oh well, maybe next time!""

NekoMika:

"Well it is nice since they give a thoughtful input and allow us to see how the y live and such. After the interview is over the opinion will usually change depending on who you interview I think. You can have the worst opinion of them and after the interview it kind of changes what you think of them."

Atlas:

"Can't really answer about the one you named but interviewing Afro-Ninja kinda changed my perspective. I thought he went to college for a few years for programming but as the interview says he went to one class and learned it from there on."

Q: What can we expect in the future from The Interviewer?

A:

The-Great-One:

"So much is in plan. I have a huge list of people to go through as I'm sure my other Interviewers have as well. We can only hope to see big things in the future. I can promise this though, with the redesign coming up, there will certainly be future changes."

Ryanson:

"MAYBE I'LL DO SOME ACTUAL INTERVIEWS, HMMMM. Rina-chan, what do you guys think? Shall I finally do it?"

NekoMika:

"More interviews of course!! Really hope people still enjoy reading them in the future too."

Atlas:

"Well more interviews and a change of scenery."

Now the first part of the interview with the Interviewer is over. Part 2 can be found here. I surely learned more about this group, and can say that all 4 members are not only experts in interviewing others, but also in getting interviewed. It was a huge honour for me to be allowed to make this interview. My thanks goes to The-Great-One, Ryanson, NekoMika and Atlas, together they are The Interviewer.

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username ModernPatriot?

ModernPatriot:

"I remember coming to this website years ago, and playing flash games like Newgrounds Rumble, Dragon Fist, and Bullet Time Fighting. Newgrounds has always had the greatest flash games. One day, I had decided to begin browsing the forum. These were some of the wittiest, and funniest forum users that I had ever seen. Since I had nothing much else better to do, I decided to make an account, and start using the great BBS."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

ModernPatriot:

"Haha, I can remember when I had made a topic asking what exactly is mentally wrong with the people on the forums. One of the users said that if I stick around a little while longer, I'd become just like them. They were right. I believe that I fit right in now. I guess I'm not really a serious user anymore. I just like fucking around. I'm pretty much the same person outside of the internet. Stuff that happens on an internet forum can't really change my personality in real life."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you ?

ModernPatriot:

"I like:

- zag She's a funny, dickgirl, cock-sucking, whore. What's not to like ;P . Although she is a pedophile.. To a degree.

- TurkeyBased He's one of my most favorite users. He can always make me laugh, and he's told me one of his most deepest darkest secrets. I'm forbiden to speak a word of it.

- Confucianism He's probably my favorite male faggot. Atleast he's not like SexualEmo, or Xenomit who e-raped me.

I believe that's it. Strange that's it's so low. Someone like me doesn't go out of his way to make friends. I sit back, and look at the cluster-fuck that America is in.... And watch the fire works."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

ModernPatriot:

"- Light

He's pompous, he contradicts himself, he thinks he's good at debating but he's not. He's just so incredibly stupid that the more, and more deluding, and deflecting he does in a debate, the more he thinks he's winning. It is not often that I come across someone as stupid as him.

I mean really. To give you one example of his stupidity look at this thread:http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1273329/8

He actually makes the assertion that because a mother would want to protect her son, then that means that women have the natural desire to protect men. He's too stupid to realize that women do not have the desire to protect males in general. Just their proginy."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer?

ModernPatriot:

"I like the forums. OR atleast the two forums that I visit(General, and the video games forum). It's comprised of primarily the same people. So it has the same posting styles, it's just that the topics in the forums are different.

In all honestly, aside from one forum website, the NG BBS is comprised of the best users, and posters, that I've ever had the pleasure of being apart of. I just hope that the redesign doesn't mess with people's posting styles."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

ModernPatriot:

"For the most part they're pretty cool. At times a select few can be pretty tyranical. I remember one time when Murray got pissed off at a user that was bad-mouthing Skyrim. He got suspended. And EyeLovePoozy can be a little asshole at times. But usually they're on their shit. Although they themselves do enjoy breaking the rules, and getting away with it. For instance:EyeLovePoozy posted a NSFW pic in his SuperBowl thread: http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1292174

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

ModernPatriot:

"No. People treat you different when you're a moderator. I wouldn't like that. Plus it's just another responsibility, that fails a cost - benefit analysis. Being a moderator isn't worth my time. I have better things to do than ban interent trolls, and get random PM's from 13 year olds tattle-telling on someone, or bitching at me for me suspending them.

Fuck that shit."

The redesign is finally here. Do you like the new design?

ModernPatriot:

"The website looks alot better. But this is what I didn't like:

- No edit button.

- We still have a very small character limit for topic titles.

- No motion signatures.

- Forum user Icons are kinda small. Only 60 x 60.

- Now when I post from my iPhone I can't use emoticons. :[

But other then that it's a pretty good redesign. 8/10."

It seems like you use emoticons for most of your posts. Which one is your favourite? What kind of emoticon(s) should be added?

ModernPatriot:

"I like the Angry Faic emoticon. I can be serious, and cuss users out with it, or I can use it as a playful emoticon, and joke around with it. I can't really think of any emoticons that I wanted to be added, but they've kinda sorta ruined some of them. The kissy-face emoticon is ugly as fuck now, the :P emoticon isn't as good as it used to be, and the beat up, and crying emoticon doesn't have motion anymore. Due to the redesign the emoticons are only slightly better than they were before. Theyr'e aesthetically better(for the most part) I suppose, but they just lack that charm that the other ones had."

Many of your newsposts are about feminism and its dangers. Tell our readers about this topic and your view on this matter.

ModernPatriot:

"Feminism, is the most disgusting, vile, evil, wicked ideology that I have ever seen.

To prove to you that they are not about sex equality, consider this: "Whereas feminists say they want to end violence against women, an ideology that wanted equality between the sexes would say that we need to end violence against men, and women."

I can quote feminists time, and time again on their desire to destroy the nuclear family: "In order to raise children with equality, we must take them away from families and communally raise them." (Dr. Mary Jo Bane, assistant professor of education at Wellesley College and associate director of the school's Center for Research on Woman)

"The end of the institution of marriage is a necessary condition for the liberation of women. Therefore it is important for us to encourage women to leave their husbands and not to live individually with men... All of history must be re-written in terms of oppression of women. We must go back to ancient female religions like witchcraft." ("The Declaration of Feminism," November 1971).

Article :How my mother's fanatical views tore us apart

You see... The leaders of the feminists are almost all man-haters. The only one of them that I can think of that doesn't hate men is Simone De Beauvior. But even she sought to destroy the nuclear family, and put women into the workplace:

"No woman should be authorized to stay at home and raise her children. Society should be totally different. Women should not have that choice, precisely because if there is such a choice, too many women will make that one." -Simone De BeauvoirNuclear Family Meltdown

And you people say I'm crazy.

Here are a couple of interesting links that I recommend that you people look at when you have the time to do so.

Agentorangefiles.com

Feminism's Underbelly: The Agent Orange Files

You see, people enjoy saying that I'm a 'sexist woman hater'. But this isn't true. I do not hate anyone due to their genetic code, and I believe that men, and women are fundamentally different.

Man is told to act like a girl.

He takes his own life.

For instance, LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OUR VERY BRAINS!!!

Men, and women are only equal in the sense in that we are both equally important, but our functions are not equal.

Without your eyes, your feet cannot see where they are going, without feet, your eyes will have no place to go.

Do you understand? Men, and women are both very important to society(the body), and to one another. But we are not meant to function the same way.

I dare the feminists to go out side, and try to walk across the street while standing on their eyes.

LOL!"

She's not fat! is a thread that you made recently. Judging from some of the reactions, do you think that women get pressured by society into being skinny? Do you have the feeling that most people don't accept preferences that differ from there own?

ModernPatriot:

"YES!

I do believe that women are pressured by society into being skinny. I HATE IT. It's all because of that stupid cunt Twiggy.

Unfortunately women, aswell as men as a whole have bought into the notion that women are only attractive when they are thin. Human beings are so stupid, and docile. The governments can trick them into believing whatever they want them to believe:

"The people are so stupid. You just feed them the same slogans every day, and they'll obey."

- Adolf Hitler

Sometimes I feel as if I am becoming a misanthrope because of how stupid human-beings really are.

Anywho, it is as if somewhere along the line the mainstream media told America that skinny women > regular sized/ curvy/ thick women. And everyone bought into it. It's pitiful really.

Marilyn Monroe was at one time considered hot, now many would say that she's fat:Photos of the Day: Marilyn Monroe (1956)

It's just pitiful, really."

ModernPatriot:

"I'm playing alot of Halo: Reach. This is my first time getting Xbox: Live so I'm really enjoying it. I'm also playing Skyrim, and a football game called Backbreaker. I'm currently anticipating Halo 4(I wonder who we'll be fighting), UFC: Undisputed 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, The PlayStation VITA, The Nintendo Wii U, Mass Effect 3(I still gotta play ME1, and 2), and I need to buy a PS3. Interview with ModernPatriot

Posted by Asandir - February 20th, 2012

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Bryan?

Bryan:

"I found Newgrounds back in... I think it was 05 or 06. I was in my younger years then so I was attracted to the violence and games, I remember playing some and watching some very violent animations. For example, I remember I liked stick figures killing each other. For example, I remember I used to love the animation Action Escape by Cosmoseth. It appealed to my lust for stick figure violence I had. Well, I had many user accounts before I finally settled on one called "61". 61 was my original username, but I got a name change from Wade Fulp back in 2009. My first newgrounds account got deleted but I made it back in 2006."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Bryan:

"Well, to be honest I learned that you'll meet people that won't like you and you'll meet people that will. There are some people on this site that don't like me, some for no reason at all and it's taught me that you can't be friends with everybody. I also think it made me more mature, from all the time I've spent on the forums."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you ?

Bryan:

Well, there's you (Asandir), there's ImaSmartass2 (Who for some reason fell off the face of the Earth or something, I'd like to get a chance to talk him again sometime. There's also a couple more I'd like to name Spirit, powerdude964, kisame, RyanBustersword123, daethdrain, Rivergrey, The-Great-One, mizzjuicyflava, narutoblackman, Ragnarokia, and even Xenomit. I'd just like to give a shoutout to all these people because they have made my time on Newgrounds an especially enjoyable one, and I have enjoyed talking to all of you! I'm sure there's a couple of people I've missed and if I did I'm sorry. <3"

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Bryan:

"Well, there's Yert who is one of the people who hates me for no reason, Sevkat who acts like a dick to me all the time, and Rummy0 who is basically the same as Sevkat. Now, I actually don't completely hate these people. Some of them I actually find amusing ocassionally like Sevkat and Rummy, but they just dislike me so I dislike them back."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Bryan:

"I LOVE the forums. Lol. If it wasn't for the forums I probably wouldn't be here still. I met the majority of my friends on Newgrounds through the forums and I have around 5,500 posts so it's definitely kept me occupied for a while! Haha. Well, I'd have to say either General or Clubs & Crews. Probably Clubs & Crews actually since I haven't been very active on NG recently and the MLP crew is one thread I check on an almost daily basis and it's where I met a lot of my NG friends. I'd like to see either ImaSmartass2 or Spirit interviewed because they're interesting guys and they're people I've talked to quite a bit."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Bryan:

"Eh... for the most part. I've gotten banned a lot and I mean A LOT by the moderators. If you remember when my account was almost deleted a few months back, then you'll know I wasn't pleased with the moderators. However, if it wasn't for them we wouldn't have the My Little Pony thread in C&C. So, aside from all the stupid bans for "being a douchebag" and whatnot, I think the moderators are doing a good job looking out for the users and generally keeping the forums safe. :)"

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Bryan:

"Yes, I would. However I'd have to devote a lot more of my free-time to NG (which I'd be willing to do). Also, a forum moderator of course! I'd try to be fair and not ban people for some of the stupid shit I've gotten banned for in the past."

Finally, finally the redesign is in sight will bring a fresh look to our beloved site. Are you looking forward to it?

Bryan:

"Ah yes. The redesign. Isn't it tomorrow or the day after or something? It's coming soon I believe. Personally, I actually don't like it. I like NG the way it is because it's simple and I feel like the new design is going along with the idea that "less is more" which I don't really believe in. I've gotten used to this one. In fact, I still sort of miss the old design, (circa 05 and 06) but that's mainly just out of nostalgia."

You are a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Can you tell our readers how you became a fan and what you like about the show? Has being a brony affected your life?

Bryan:

"Ahaha, yes I am. I became a fan of the show after seeing the thread in General the MLP serious discussion thread back in August I became aware of the brony phenomenon and got curious. I looked it up and found it was a "meme". Unlike some of the other people in the thread, I was pretty accepting of them and asked them why they liked it. I was persuaded by Ragnarokia to watch an episode and give my thoughts on it, and I liked it! After that I watched another one and another one, and before I knew it I had watched all 26 episodes of Season 1! I'm actually not sure what I like about the show, maybe it's the innocence, the humor or the cute-factor... but it just has this weird way of making me smile, which I can't exactly explain. That's why I like it. Has being a brony changed my life? Hmm... well I might not go THAT far. However it definitely has changed my way of thinking and some of my tastes. I've also met a lot of friends through the fandom. So, I suppose you could say that."

Do you appreciate the possibility to post about the show in the The Official Mlp:fim Crew thread?

Bryan:

"Yes I do! I was distraught when the MLP serious discussion thread got shut down back in September and I sent my plea to a couple of the moderators to get another thread but have it in C&C and have it with rules that make it more controlled and not just a massive flame war like the old one pretty much was. So, once again, I must thank the moderators for that."

You have submitted 19 flash submissions to Newgrounds over the years. Would you consider yourself a flash artist? Is there a work that you are most proud of?

Bryan:

"Oh. Well, I wouldn't consider myself a flash artist, considering most of that stuff was spam and clock day stuff just made "4 the lulz". However, I might like to get into flash animation some time. No, there is no flash animation I have submitted that I am particularly proud of, unfortunately."

I can remember that you were affected by the Canas incident. How was your reaction to it?

Bryan:

"Yes I was. Well, this was back in August right? Recently after I first became a brony. I remember I had stayed up for 2 days straight because I was on almost an adernaline rush from discovering I was a brony, so I went to sleep. When I woke up late the next morning, I discovered I had a few messages in my inbox. I went to check them and I started freaking out because it said I was PERMANENTLY BANNED FROM WRITING REVIEWS. I checked the forums to see if this had happened to anyone else and sure enough, it did. I was banned at the time so I couldn't post so I messaged a few moderators and got a message back saying that it was being fixed. However, I got unbanned and I got my silver whistle status back up again, and then afterwards I felt like a selfish ass for not even caring that Canas got all of his personal information stolen."

Bryan:

Interview with Bryan

Posted by Asandir - February 13th, 2012

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Quinny?

Quinny:

"I discovered the site in the twilight days of high school. The first flash I watched was The Batflefield IV. I made an account because I quickly learned that this is THE place to come for games and flash vids.

I was originally BobbaQ but in 2010 I'd had enough of it and Wade was nice enough to change it for me. Quinny was my nickname in school and college, it just has a nice ring to it so that's what I went with."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Quinny:

"I signed up at 16 and an awful lot has happened in my life since then. A fair amount of it is bad memories and I've only talked about it with a handful of people. I've grown up a lot on here and IRL, even though sometimes I might not come across as the most mature person on the forums."

"I'm very pally with black-ops (Grant). We first met in my Killzone 2 club here and we've been mates since then. I'm also friends with most of the English users because we have similar interests and everyone from the Call of Duty HQ club as they were my first group of PS3 friends and made me feel really welcome. And then there's all my bronies who are all awesome. I'm happy to be friends with anyone on here so long as you aren't a prat."

Quinny:

"I first started posting in 2007 after the redesign. I didn't before as I was only interested in games/movies and depositing so never bothered looking around the rest of the site. They're simply just a nice place to hang out during the day and there's always a good discussion somewhere for me to put my two cents in.

I'd like to see Rucklo get interviewed at some point because his posts are always funny and he's also the author of Drunk which one of my favourite songs on here. Jamoke would also be a good one."

You post in quite some Club threads on Newgrounds. Can you tell our readers which ones are your favourite ones and why?

Quinny:

"I'm a former member of the Newgrounds Police Department. They're like the Elite Guard Baracks but are much less formal. If you want to get in the Elite Guard then you have to come here to cut your teeth. It's run by TailsPrower and he's a good kid.The Ng Old Peoples Home is the place to go if your account is at least 2 and a half years old and want to complain about how things just aren't how they used to be. It's very quiet in there due to most members either being inactive or dead from old age.

Then there's the English Gentleman's Club which is the most revered establishment in the C&C forum. Here we sit in our wingbacks with our brandy and cigars and discuss many gentlemanly things such as The Empire, cricket and hunting.

I'm also a member of Car Enthusiasts, Mac Users, MLP, CoD HQ and the PS3 lounge. I had a club for Killzone 2 and the clan was in the top 300 at its peak but those days are long over."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Quinny:

"They have a hard job keeping everything in check and it can't always be easy for them. They all deserve respect just for bothering to give up their time and putting up with all of us. I suppose they're a good bunch which is why they were chosen but some of them definitely take It a bit too seriously."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Quinny: "If you asked me a few years ago I would've said yes but not now. I used to look up to them when I was wet behind the ears on the forums but these days they're just another member to me that have special privileges. The mod forum probably isn't even that good anyway, right?"

Some things from it are missed by people such as being able to freely change your name and the cool points system which is now a hidden feature. I can't tell you much about the forums but from what I know the moderators were a bit more relaxed and the community was more tight knit than it is now."

What changes of the Redesign 2007 did you like the most? Were there changes that you didn't like?

Quinny:

"I was most happy with how much more "now" it looked if you get what I mean. The previous layout was fine but was getting old. I was glad that the amount of levels had been increased as well because like a lot of people I seemed to be stuck on level 10. I didn't have complaints with any of it."

The next redesign will happen in the first week of February, are you looking forward to it? What kind of changes do you want to see?

Quinny:

"I honestly have no idea what to expect. I'm guessing things in general will have had a good tweaking and there will be the odd new feature here and there. Being able to see a preview of flash before it loads would be cool but I don't think they will have bothered with anything like that. The biggest thing for me though is that the :3 emotion has made it in."

Interview with Quinny

Posted by Asandir - February 6th, 2012

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Ragnarokia?

Raknarokia:

"Back when I was new to computers and the internet, one of my brothers, (who is obsessed with Linux etc.) showed me some of the fun aspects of the internet, starting with the animutation flash irrational induberance (Yatta), and several others including We Drink Ritalin, which was the first flash I saw on this website. Needless to say I found them amusing and I recalled this website for some fun random viewing when I was around 12 or so.

Later in 2006 I ended up thinking about something to do when bored online, at which point I recalled some of the flashes on Newgrounds, I ended up making my own account so I could review some and I visited when bored for some random views.

The username Ragnarokia came from a second choice. I have always loved dragons in particular those from Final Fantasy and the like. I originally wanted to use Bahamut as my username but alas that was taken by Murray of course, but I was fine with it as he was a good user who I later got to know well etc. My second choice was Ragnarok, taken due to a similar reason as Murray that it was the name of a dragon in this case spaceship from Final Fantasy 8. I loved the name and decided to roll with it, however Ragnarok was taken, so when thinking of a new name I recalled the name I used for Runescape where I shoved 'ia' on the end, as I found it sounded both nice and easy to remember, and then I ended up using the same name here, which in the end became my internet alias I use everywhere (with the odd difference of RagnarokiaNG for youtube etc. as lame people already took it on other places.)"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Raknarokia:

"I have changed a lot over the course of time here.I joined as something to take my mind off the problems I had in real life, and in the end what ended up happening was I began to simply take life less strictly, I ended up becoming effected by the forum which I soon found and the type of posting going on there in. The longer I spent on the site posting the more I began to simply enjoy the silly things, stupid spam and memes etc. and over the course of the years since joining to the point now I slowly got to, in a way, not caring about myself, yet at the same time caring if that makes much sense. I accepted life was as it was and decided I would simply do whatever and have fun, make friends or enemies I just began to take everything as it came.

The interesting thing is that many would claim it has made me less social, but I was never much of a social guy to begin with, but in fact it made me more social just around the types of people I find on here, and not the types of people you generally find on the street.

Another big thing about my changing is realizing my sexuality, well to an extent anyway. (I am currently unsure if I am bi or gay, I think bi.) When I came I didn't know I wasn't straight, despite such things like posting a picture of guys hugging and kissing on my page I guess I should have noticed that. But anyway as time went on I slowly started noticing I sort of found guys hot, and in the end was broken up on the whole "shit I'm blatantly not straight" and didn't know how to act over it. I lived in a small village where such things are heavily frowned upon, and brought up by christian people etc (but not my mother she couldn't give a shit luckily so was saved from that annoyance growing up). And I was in an all boys school so yeah you can see the whole problem behind not wanting to ask people for help.

Then I noticed gays and bis on Newgrounds, I talked to a few, got to know a few, hell most of them I didn't realize weren't strait until I talked to them, and it all got me thinking "You know these people are great. How is that bad?". At which point I began making news posts about it etc, and slowly ended up coming out and remarkably everyone on Newgrounds seemed perfectly fine with it. It was great. Sadly the same can't be said for the boys at school but then again that goes with the maturity thing I mention below, it seems this site is far better for making me more mature despite how I might act than all the random fools who don't understand simple things like sexuality outside eh. I will go on more about this in the friends bit as it relates to that.

As a whole I have stayed as a nice guy etc, but the things I find amusing and the things I like to talk about have mixed with what I learned on here. I would be perfectly fine talking about taboo subjects with little to no feeling of uneasiness doing so, while those I talk to then complain I shouldn't talk about such things etc. yet it is about such things as incest, sex changing, suicide, psychopaths etc. All interesting subjects some of which I question the point of being illegal (incest etc.) while others I find fascinating (psychopaths etc.) I find such topics good to talk about and never think twice about those who then complain I shouldn't talk about such things.

Similarly as expected I picked up trolling as it came, though I don't tend to do it much I do dabble in it at times, the odd part is people always seem to take me seriously even if I am being sarcastic of blatantly lying etc people seem to always take what I say for face value. So when I do try trolling and the like it sort of goes a little to far to say the least, so I tend to no longer do such things unless a great thing comes up.

I guess the basic things that happened is, over the course of time on Newgrounds I matured, but I matured in ways fitting my personality on here rather than as others matured in the real world. Incidentally I actually seem to find myself and those I talk to on here on a 1 to 1 basis to actually be very mature despite how we act, compared to those who haven't become "hardened" by such things like Newgrounds who whine at everything and can never take any insults or jokes at their expense etc. I find myself and others like me seem to be far better at accepting things than those who never touch such places."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you ?

Raknarokia:

"There are quite a few who ended up making my life better and more enjoyable, and also others who just simply give me a good laugh. I will likely forget several users or even many as I always do forgot something when listing off, so if this is being shown to anyone else then you know, don't take me ignoring you for a bad thing.

Let's see, Mechabloby did a lot for me, he was someone I talked to when I was getting used to settling into the forum, he ended up eventually giving me help to help with my sexuality pondering and helped me be fine with who I was. He was one of a few who helped with this, Gagsy was another and Lost-Chances another.

Gagsy, she will always be good. She may completely and utterly refuse to come to meetups and avoid going onto MSN or anything and generally not respond, but she is just a bit of an oddball like that, I still think of her as a great friend but alas she NEEDS TO PM / MSN MORE, seriously Leanne you are never on. But I degress, she was another of those people that helped me during rough times and will always be grateful.Lost-Chances, he is always great to talk to and is always interesting. He was similar to Gagsy and Mechabloby, infact I miss how he used to spam up a yaoi thread together and all get banned for 7 days or so due to it, those were the good days. We need to do that some more.

Josh is very, unique let's say. Many people sadly just know him as "bedn" and the thumbs up picture etc. but I forgot how exactly I ended up getting to know him ages ago, I think back at the paltalk days whatever that thing was called that Newgrounds used for ages. And he ended up being a really interesting and unique friend. He is definitely the most unique friend I have had and was entertaining to talk to, even the more questionable stuff we used to talk about was always fun. I miss not talking to him for a while now, but alas he seems to have gotten his life on track so thats a good thing, hopefully wont end up coming back to being worse again. Talking to him really ended up making me more relaxed about stuff somehow, as if I ended up getting a part of his free spirit.

Black-Ops is a good friend also, I likely talk to him the most and is usually interesting, sadly I would love to add more detail but really I don't know what to say, he's a good friend and we talk, sort of comes down to that in the end, similar with the other following ones.

Murray, again good friend and also interesting note as I mentioned earlier with my name he was the guy who is using the name I wanted to originally sign up as. I am glad he is a good guy and deserving of it at least. Also get him drunk and get him talking about FF7.

Infinite-One is another I talk to regularly, not sure how much he frequents Newgrounds anymore never check but I talk to him a lot, fun guy.

Added to that add the list of guys I meet at meetups, Bez and Wonchop and Lazypint and the like, I tend to keep to myself around people I don't know well but the few times I talked to such people they were fun and interesting and I hope they thought the same, because if they didn't its going to suck having me there again this year for them."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Raknarokia:

"It is fun thinking about it, most people don't seem to take hatred towards me and don't hold a grudge, as I don't really give any reason for anyone to do so. But never the less yes I have had several "enemies" in the past. The best one was this user called Nixot. He had some sort of grudge against me due to my posting of Yaoi, here is an example of the type of threads he made against me. What I find so amusing is how far he took this. He even made a website about it, which me and Black-Ops and some others trolled and he just really seemed to have some sort of immense loathing that I really couldn't understand against me. I get the odd person who claims they hate me etc, that's normal. But this guy...I really don't know what to say it was impressive how much he seemed to fume with hatred especially since I didn't do much other than the occasional trolling and yaoi posting to fuel it."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Raknarokia:

"I love these forums, I really do. I don't know what it is about them but they are so entertaining so post in and see, the types of threads and posting is interesting and silly and amusing, it is also so fast theres hardly any point when its boring. I have tried other forums but nothing lives up to Newgrounds, and I don't know why at all...it is just so alluring, the people are brilliant. Which is why I have been here for 6 years already. Well 5 I think as I didn't find forums strait away.

I would say Gagsy, she likely will refuse to answer questions but if you CAN get her to then MAKE HER do it. Gagsy needs to respond more. If she doesn't then interview either Black-Ops or Murray."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Raknarokia:

"I love them have to say that. Mods are usually so boring and bland, sticking to the rules having no sense of fun at all. But not Newgrounds mods, these ones have style. You get Poozy raping peoples posts and laughing at them, Malachy trolling the hell out of people making them hate him, Rucklo spamming random shit and giving good laughs. Murray banning me for pony stuff. They are so varied and fun, they actually know how to have a good time and THAT is what makes mods fun, who gives a shit about sticking letter to letter, have fun while modding."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Raknarokia:

"Yes actually I would, I enjoy the forums and do find it annoying when something gets missed or a mod isn't online etc. I would like to have forum mod status and help out the place to make it more fun for me as well as others still. I do worry about making not liking it as much if I had to moderate it, but frankly that wouldn't take away any fun really, just add more fun when theres something up to be dealt with. Though as I do love a good spam post and joke around a lot and don't post seriously half the time, I can see myself never getting the moderator position, but if I was invited for it then I would cut down the spam I guess, but would still keep to my fun side and of course add the odd pony picture where relevant. Which is likely why I wouldn't get mod status, but alas would be swell."

The redesign will happen in the first week of February, are you looking forward to it? What kind of changes do you want to see?

Raknarokia:

"Personally no I'm not. I hate change I love keeping to things I am used to, so this site changing, even if it is for the better, will just feel wrong to me and would take time to get used to it again. But I do have to admit I love the idea of feed from people you are watching like youtube / deviantART does, and I am also looking forward to changes to help writing get better if they do any, as I am a writer myself so would love to add some to here rather than just deviantART if it became more user friendly to do so."

You seem to be a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Can you tell our readers how you became a fan and what you like about the show? Has being a brony affected your life?

Raknarokia:

"My Little Pony Friendship is Magic is my favourite show, as to be expected from a favourite thing it has great story, characters, lessons, development etc. Not to mention the cuteness factor is through the roof. But the thing about this show that makes it into what it is among the fanbase is odd, but in a good way. Why is it so good? Really as much as we try to explain it those who aren't fans just don't understand it and demand more answers. I can't come out and say "this is why" and make everyone understand. I can give a long explanation of the things I love about the show but still it won't satisfy all. There is just something about the show, something about it which draws in and opens us up to it. The overall niceness that we love in it and enjoy taking in. The thing that needs to be understood is that there is something there, even if you don't know what it is you need to realize that thing does exist that makes it so good, and those who do enjoy it are able to see it.

Fanmade material wise, the same things that makes the show so good also makes it so nice to make fanmade stuff for. For me I write fanfiction of MLP:FIM, but I had never even considered writing fanfiction before I got into ponies. So what made me get into it and love doing it so much? Really, it just works. There is something about Equestria and the ponies which makes writing / drawing about them so enjoyable and nice, far more so than any previous thing I had been into which I didn't consider making the fiction for. Hay even now I think about writing stories for other things but end up realizing it just wouldn't feel the same and wouldn't hold the same enjoyment as the pony work. I also love the music and games and videos people make, but alas my skills in those areas are very lacking so I can only enjoy viewing them.

As far as being an open fan about MLP:FIM goes, I am far more than happy to be open about loving it knowing how good it is to make fanmade stuff for and how nice the fanbase is to each other. I would be more inclined to hide other things I enjoy over MLP, even though to others they likely wouldn't sound as much of a 'taboo' subject of a little girls show. Sure I fully accept it's a little girls show don't get me wrong I know the reason it was made and for what audience. But just because it's not made for me per-say, doesn't mean it is only allowed to be seen by us. Sadly many just simply won't get over the fact it's a little girls show and never accept us liking it, but those that can get passed that even if they don't enjoy the show themselves but accept we do, I'm happy for them."

12 flashes were created by you. Would you consider yourself a flash artist? Is there a work that you are most proud of?

Raknarokia:

"I only truly consider myself an artist of literature, since that is what I do best. My drawings are bad, I have never been good at physical artwork I never nurtured it until it was too late and ended up sucking. I do try to get back into it at times and draw something but alas it is never very good. For flash, I would consider myself an artist, just not an amazing one, I have made several flash games but they are all very simple ones that take little skill to make, I am simply just not good at such creation processes. However despite saying that yes I am proud about the flashes that I make. I know my work isn't on par with others however I do have fun making it and it is always nice to see someone enjoy it. The piece I am most pleased with is Olemont. The Yaoi flash game I made, yes it is a simple style of point and click however it did take a lot of time for me to make and I put a lot of effort into it. It took the whole of 1 week to make it, which I am not used to spending on a single creation. I was very pleased I stuck to it and in the end made it as almost exactly like I envisioned it in my plan. I am also pleased many like it, sure people will just love seeing flat yaoi anyway but rather than that I made it a game and at least force those that do want to just watch a gallery to actually play a game to get their treats. I also of course added a family mode skipping all adult pictures at the same time, why when most people looking at it likely want to see them? Why not, I have class and I allow people to not look at such things, sir.

Will I make more flash? Questionable. Like I mentioned I am bad at it and if I do make another flash it will be just as basic, games as point and clicks and movies as choppy transitions, but hey thats how much skill I have and I accept that, and I am proud of the small skill I do have. Even if I wouldn't consider myself a real artist at it. I could always maybe just make text based games thinking about it, hmm, will consider it see how much effort they take to create, if not too much then who knows might be able to put my writing and flash together. But alas that is something for another day."

You attended the Manchester meet 2011. Tell us how you exerienced this event. Did your view in the users that you met change?

Raknarokia:

"It was fun, I already met 2 users before meet ups, RedCoin when we went to see Ironman for some reason, that was fun even if sort of spontaneous. Also Mecha for a while. But the first time I went to a meetup with multiple was Glasgow 2010, that was entertaining and truly was good that I found the users to be so fine. Of course I was quiet, as I usually am, so I didn't talk to them a lot, but I did keep to a few I knew and talked to them a bit. Black-Ops and Eviljesus back then I can't remember sadly. That was amusing. I did almost miss the meetup though as I got mixed up and forgot to get contact details. But I luckily found Ops and he lead me to people and it worked out.

Manchester 2011 was more entertaining and was very fun. I was more open then since the previous meetup had already gotten me used to people, but of course I was still quiet but hey thats just who I am when it comes to writing on posts etc I can be loud and say whatever, when it comes to more private text stuff like MSN then I tend to have less to say as more quiet, and when face to face I tend to just not speak. But everyone needs the introvert of a group I guess. But anyway it was entertaining I got on more with people and generally had a great time. Users that go to them really are good, some are weird but some are great and its those regulars that we already know that end up being the best. Also not to mention the gamebar place we went that was awesome. I kept getting my flank handed to me in Street Fighter 4 but it was fun regardless. That is a running theme actually me getting beaten in everything we do, especially Jungle Speed, seriously don't try beat Bezman in jungle speed, it's impossible."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Raknarokia:

"Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy make the cutest and best couple ever.

Also so you can find it amusing. I have to check my closet every night if I think about it before I can go to sleep. It's less of a scared something is inside thing, but more of a "you know you haven't checked that" yet thing. It keeps hounding me going "yea you haven't checked it yet." all night until I finally get up and do it. Then I can rest. I get a similar thing with checking my door is closed and some switches are turned off. Basically my paranoia forces my mind to keep repeating it to be checked, it is sort of annoying and in a way sad."

What can we expect from you in the future, Ragnarokia?

Raknarokia:

"Newgrounds wise more posting and maybe some flash. If writing portals etc get in good use with the Redesign, I might shove stories on here too. Generally will be like I have been already, but more so. Other things wise, deviantART I keep to for my stories and if interested I plan to keep making more. I am also a Let's Player on Youtube and like to randomly make videos of them and shove them on, it's a good pass time. So if interested in any of those things then feel free to check them out. Otherwise I will just be seen posting like normal, going to the odd meetups and generally being around."

Interview with Ragnarokia

Posted by Asandir - January 30th, 2012

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username zag?

zag:

"I joined back in '04. At that point, I was more or less just a dumb child who was in it for the stupid 'Assassin' games section. That wound up paving the way for dating sims. I was especially fond of Simgirls, which was based around the anime, DNA2 (squared.) As for why I have chosen my username, it more or less revolves around what a dumbass I was when I was younger. You see, I had this friend named Amber. Somehow, we came to believe that we were superhuman mutants whose souls had been birthed inside the Earth so that they could possess our bodies. This was so that come 2010, we could defeat the entity, 'Death,' who planned to destroy humanity. My "real name" was Zag and hers was Emberburn. We also had a brother that we were looking for named Freezyala. At least I was creative as a child."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

zag:

"I've definitely gone through some changes, both online and in real life. When I joined Newgrounds, I was around the age of thirteen. Back then, I was anything but popular among my peers and just wanted to be accepted. Unfortunately, in an attempt to be accepted, I just did everything I thought I should to be someone who I've never really been. It didn't work anyway, and I was still loathed by the majority. That unfortunately showed itself in many of my early posts here on Newgrounds. I recommend taking a look at them sometime. they're quite amusing, if nothing else. I was a worthless piece of homophobic shit. One could argue that I'm still worthless, and I wouldn't really be able to argue with them... but at least I'm not homophobic ;)"

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you ?

zag:

"There are a few users here that I like quite a lot. I'm certainly no stranger to circle jerking. The ones I like most are, in no particular order, Sevkat, Xenomit, SexualEmo, Yert, SteelChair, Insane-kid, TurkeyBased and ModernPatriot. I suppose they affect me in various different ways. With most of them, our friendships are based on some sort of sexual parody... you know? Back to circle jerking and dick sucking. However, there are a couple users that I've grown genuinely close with. I have a fairly potent fondness for all of them though. There are some other users who I've appreciated, but these are the people that I would call my 'friends'."

"I don't really have enemies, but there are a few users who really annoy me. The first that comes to mind is Spilda-Bongwata. Aside from being an obnoxious ass, he refuses to adhere to the philosophy of "live and let live." He wouldn't be so bad if we could just leave each other alone. Suprememessage is someone who I've had a like/hate relationship with since meeting him. All in all, he's a pretty good user but sometimes, he tends to be a bit obnoxious himself. I believe he once admitted that he gets quite bad when drunk too. Other than them, there are members that irritate me but none who immediately come to mind."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

"The Newgrounds Forums will always be apart of who I am. I've been visiting them since I was fairly young, so at this point, they hold a lot of nostalgia for me. I rarely venture outside of the General Forum though. It has the most diverse topics, so it tends to be the most interesting. As for who you should interview, I'd personally suggest SexualEmo and Yert , if you haven't interviewed them already. I believe that would be fairly interesting."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

zag:

"There are certainly some that are better than others. I hold the fairly unpopular belief that Coop is the best of the moderators. However, I'm not incredibly fond of NEVR or reverend. I feel as though reverend is too quick to ban people and close threads. NEVR is just a dick who abuses his privileges as moderator. His threads in particular are awful. Overall, I'd say the other moderators of Newgrounds vary from mediocre to sufficient. There are few others who I've really noticed. I do like EyeLovePoozy though. I haven't seen too much of him, as he seems to be most active during the day and myself at night, but he's amusing."

Ideally, I'd be a forum moderator, but I'd accept any position of power that I was offered. Sadly, my only previous experience as a moderator has been in Sevkat's forum, which sadly never really took off and is currently comatose."

The redesign will happen in the first week of February, are you looking forward to it? What kind of changes do you want to see?

zag:

"Ideally, the forum would revert to its state back when I joined in '04. I personally believe that was the site at its best. Besides, how retro would that be? :P However, so long as the redesign doesn't make the website an eyesore and it's easy to navigate, I'll be satisfied."

You have submitted 4 flash submissions to Newgrounds. Would you consider yourself a flash artist? Is there a work that you are most proud of?

zag:

"A flash artist? Me? God no! I'm nothing but a child fingerpainting compared to most flash artists. I do have fun with it though and I would like to improve my skills. However, I'm quite technologically challenged so that's nothing but a dream that will almost inevitably crash and burn. Ideally, I'd become good enough to program some games to advertise for my personal series though. As you may have heard, I'm an aspiring writer so using Newgrounds to make a name for my work while simultaneously pumping out some fun content would be nice. Rainy would do all of the illustrating though. I can't draw very well at all, as some people may have noticed."

I heard that you are a huge Anime fan. Can you tell our readers when you started to watch Anime? And can you recommend some series that are underrated?

zag:

"I wouldn't say that I'm a huge anime fan, but I enjoy the occasional series. I started watching anime as a child and got into it for the same reason that everyone else in my generation did. Series like Sailor Moon, Pokémon and Dragon Ball paved the way for me. Eventually, you either realize that the style isn't for you or you take it and run with it. Personally, my biggest inspirations have come from Japanese animation. I would highly recommend that anyone reading this watch Angel Beats, Gakuen Alice and Baka and Test. There are quite a few other good series out there, but in my opinion, those ones definitely deserve the spotlight."

You have quite some favourite video games. Which series do you like the most? Did it ever occur that you were disappointed by a promising video game?

zag:

"I'm very much a casual gamer. While gaming is a hobby of mine, it's not one that I take as far as many others. My favorite game series is definitely Pokémon. However, like many other fans, I'm disappointed in the prospect that we may never really see any major changes to the series. I do really like Pokémon Tower Defense though. Sadly, it's only a matter of time before it's taken down by the bigwigs at Nintendo :/ I'm also quite into the Fable and Bioshock series. Anyone who's played anything designed by Peter Molyneux knows that he promises far more than he dishes out, but Fable 3 was by far the biggest disappointment for me. First of all, I hated the inclusion of your character's voice. Fable is supposed to be a series that is built on choice and to give a character non-dictatable dialogue strips us entirely of our ability to define our own characters. Furthermore, I loved the portion of the game where you came to rule, but I felt like it was cut short just as it was getting really good. Bioshock 2's story was lacking and the characters couldn't even begin to compare to those from the first game in the series. However, I'm really into the multiplayer. I'm also into the Rock Band series, though I couldn't be happier with what they've done with it."

According to your userpage, you are an aspiring writer. There are rumours that the redesign will bring a Literature Portal to Newgrounds. Would you like to release some of your work there?

zag:

"Truth be told, that's somewhat unlikely. I've never really been the type to write short stories for the purpose of publishing online. I do have prospects toward trying to publish some work in magazines before I show my main series though. Perhaps in the future, I'll change my mind. The fact that I also co-write with my lover, Rainy is also a factor. Furthermore, we usually only make character bios, stat charts and concepts. We actually know virtually every detail from beginning to end in our work, but we have fairly little to show for it. We do have more than four-hundred pages for our "Roxanne" series and about one volume and a half of Ximen. Just so you have SOME idea of what I'm talking about, Ximen is a series about one man who monopolizes the insurance industry through a few loopholes and the corruption capitalism brings in America. That series takes place in 3035. Roxanne tells the story of a girl whose father was originally the CEO of the nation's second largest insurance industry before the monopolization. After he loses everything and kills himself, this girl who was used to living in such luxury resorts to being a prostitute. However, because of her incredibly business oriented mind, she winds up industrializing all of the crime in New York City into her own little business... But that's enough shameless promoting of my work :P"

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

zag:

"Believe it or not, I don't really have secrets. At one point or another, I think I've shared pretty much every intimate detail of my life with Newgrounds. However, I might as well bring up some of the lesser mentioned ones here. First of all, I'm a member of the AB/DL community. That essentially deals with diaper fetishism and age regression... Fun stuff ;) Of course, I also have various other fetishes as well. Also, it's worth mentioning that I'm in an incestuous relationship with my half-sister, Rainy. Furthermore, there's the fact that I'm transgendered. No matter how often I mention this, there always seem to be people who miss it."

What can we expect from you in the future, zag?

zag:

"Who knows? The future is impossible to predict. Most likely, more irritation though. I tend to be pretty good at annoying certain members of Newgrounds, although others seem to love me. Ideally, I'll become Newgrounds' friendly, neighborhood celebrity. I have high hopes for becoming a billionaire shock-writer. It may sound unrealistic, but at least I'm optimistic ^.^ Other than that, I'm sure I'll continue to learn and grow as I have over the past years. I've done quite a lot of evolving as a person, and I don't see that stopping. Perhaps I'll mature as a human being and stop being so petty and childish. I wouldn't hold your breath though. I'm likely to remain the cock sucking little bitch that I am today for a while."

Interview with zag

Posted by Asandir - January 23rd, 2012

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username EmmaVolt?

Emma:

"I actually found Newgrounds several years ago by playing some of the flash games on a different website (It could have been Armor Games back in their prime). Back then, however, I never cared to make an account. So, until a few months ago, I just came back here every once in a while to see if a new Madness Combat came out, or if that one grey squirrel cartoon guy (I can't remember his name for the life of me) had a new episode. I looked into the forums more one day when I was bored, and it seemed to be very entertaining. I lurked on and off as school started until I finally decided to make an account to post on BBS.

Emma Volt is actually a name I came up with in middle school for a comic series I wrote/drew for fun. My friend and I just came up with funny superhero episodes, so my superhero name was "Emma Volt" - with the power of electricity and magnetism! I mainly wanted a catchy name that was easy to remember for the forum (and audio portal)."

* Changed her name to Emma ^^ *

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Emma:

"Well, I have certainly changed as a user, and a little bit as a person (mostly unrelated to each other). I've become extremely cynical about the world in general due to college and my philosophy course. But, other than that, I'm not sure I have changed so much as a person per-se. As for changing as a user, I have definitely lost a sense of "having fun" as the rules claim to be an aspect of the forum. I have grown to simply debate with others. I still have some fun every once in a while - but the initial "enjoyment-factor" has deteriorated over the months."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Emma:

"As I said above, my first impressions of the forum were high and optimistic. Most users seemed entertaining, or impartial - almost all of them intelligent. It basically seemed like a fun place at first. However, this feeling quickly faded when I realized having an alternate/unpopular opinion, believing in God, and/or being female means you are unwelcome. Trying to have fun is basically illegal for me - yet completely serious issues are either ignored, scoffed at, or trolled. I am not complaining about this, as I have been scapegoated for most of my life (and I realize this is not exclusive to me); but, it is disappointing when I cannot even express my opinions without being ridiculed/harassed on a regular bases through PM, news posts, or in a topic.

The Politics forum is easily my favorite sub-forum; although, the atmosphere of it is always rough and no fun. The topics there are usually in my taste - but it is unfortunate that so little users post there. So, I suppose my previous paragraph is directed towards General. Luckily, there are a few good users such as Light, Natick, littlegonkyboy, akmeteor, Famas, and BananasFoster (the last of whom I think would be interesting to interview), and some others."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you ?

Emma:

"I like users who aren't negatively concerned about my posting habits, and/or personality. I feel that Light (Jedi-Master) has had the most affect on me - seeing as he is in the minority of those who take serious issues seriously and actually give some thought on the matters in a neutral way (not to exclude others like BananasFoster, Corpsegrinderclock, and FBIPolux). But, I can be friends with anyone who can be friends with me."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Emma:

"Absolutely. However, I would rather not engrave our hostilities by listing them and removing any possibility of settling our differences. These users tend to attack me in terms of the amount I post (which is distorted by the stats on my page), the subject my posts, the quality of my posts, and even me personally. I have a difficult time creating new topics - albeit entertainment or debate - without one of them expressing their distaste of me. I do not mind if one disagrees with something I have said, but there is really no reason for such personal opposition."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Emma:

"I like the moderators (most of them). From what I have seen, they do their job - but, perhaps they overdo it sometimes. Many threads that are locked seem to be simply because the moderator finds them stupid or uninteresting. I think these threads should simply "die" rather than preventing someone who may have found the subject with quality from posting. Also, the definition of "spam" on the BBS is entirely subjective, and should not be used as a valid reason for banning someone or their responders. Spam is when someone starts multiple identical threads, a commercialization thread, or a thread with absolutely no subject. The latter of these is not equivalent to a thread with minimal discussion value - these should simply be ignored. The mods also have a knack for ignoring high-levels/experienced users. All of my bans - except for a debatable one - have been for violations not stated in the rules of BBS. My favorite ban (the debatable one) was 3-day from DHT for posting about a MacIntosh in a thread about virus protection. Apparently, technology is unrelated in technology topics. So, in my experience, I would say the mods (except for reverend, perhaps) are ... like racist police officers, haha."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Emma:

"I would probably like to be a moderator after I spend more time on the site. I suppose I am still what most users would call a "newbie" - and I would have to agree. But, I probably wouldn't mind helping to keep the forums clean. If I were to be promoted, I would probably be just as I am now - simply with more buttons! I wouldn't become a reverend, but I also wouldn't end up like EyeLovePoozy (although, he can be hilarious). Hypothetically, I would probably not ban many people as I rarely see any rules broken - besides harassment, and occasionally racism. I'd probably not lock many threads either unless it was two lines, entirely uppercase, requested, and/or spam."

The redesign is rumored to happen in the first months of 2012, are you looking forward to it? What kind of changes do you want to see?

Emma:

"I came to Newgrounds every once in a while before the last two (?) redesigns, I believe. I may not be aware of what this means, and I may have simply observed dramatic changes in layout. I can't say whether or not I'm looking forward to this next one, because I am mostly impartial. If a redesign does take place, I would greatly appreciate customizable icons for the forum! But, knowing how many people enjoy being "superior" to the newer users, I doubt this will happen. Perhaps we could have medals or ribbons underneath our icons to show ranks. Also, an "edit post" button would be great for long discussions! I can't stand to read over typos or grammatical errors. I also wonder if it would be useful to have a "hide user" button that would hide all posts by that person."

Emma polarizes. A lot of users like you but others openly admit that they dislike or even hate you. How is your reaction to both groups?

Emma:

"Well, I addressed this a little already, but I'm glad that I can feel comfortable elaborating more. My short time here so far has been extremely strange. I was instantly welcomed to the site within the first few days (probably because of the "Emma" in Emma), and made a couple friends whom I knew were genuinely friendly. By day three, the attention became negative with the first of five EV threads ("Dear Emma") - directed specifically towards my post count. As you can imagine, the first ignorant comments were towards my social life. I pretty much ignored this, though, and moved on. Unfortunately, some had not.

Some time later, another thread had popped up - similarly targeting in nature. This was about the time I had begun to find moderators erratic in their enforcement of rules; and also when General seemed to split into "I hate you", "I don't care", or "I'm pretending to not care but I hate you". Much of this conflict caused me to rethink having an account on here at all - and I even tried to leave after unwisely defending myself in a pointless battle against several users over my unpopular opinions. I was chased off for a bit until some users convinced me to return - and I came back much more aggressive than before. Ironically, coming back makes me "overly dramatic", while leaving makes me "soft", and staying makes me a "no-lifer". I can't please everyone, so, I please no one and do what I want now. I see those who hate me for no reason as severely obsessed teenagers who probably have not had an encounter with a female.

As for those who are on my side, most of them I feel are genuine about it - and are not seeking attention. Light, Natick, and BananasFoster keep me on the BBS, and I have made at least a few friends on here regardless of my infamy on the forum. I would simply like to be included without the needless hostility (yes, even whilst debating "religion"). And, as I said before, I hold no grudges towards those who wish to make fun of me - I hope to resolve whatever problems they have with me so that we might become better acquainted."

You won the Rookie of the Year BBS award 2011. Do you think that you deserve this award and what did you think when you won it?

Emma:

"Well, since I joined fairly late in the year, I am not sure whether or not I deserved the award - but, it was not for me to decide! I try to post thoughtfully or with satirical humor, and I feel that those who actually read my posts are the ones who voted me Rookie of the Year. The description of the award in the Flash seemed to be half-hearted, though, so perhaps I did not truly deserve it. Now, the obvious question is, "Do I think I won the award based on gender". No, I don't. I realize some may disagree; but, from observing the voting threads and who voted me for what, I believe I won the award fairly. Although, I haven't seen many regular '11 users."

I noticed that you change your signature and userpage layout very often. Do you appreciate the possibility to customize your userpage?

Emma:

"I change my signature about once every three or four days, and my profile about every week and a half! One of the reasons I like NG and hate Facebook is customization (or lack thereof). I suppose my enjoyment of graphic design plays a role in this, but I like the idea of personalizing something so that I stand out from everyone else! Unfortunately, I get bored very easily, or I notice mistakes, and decide to do something new. My desktop wallpaper changes every 30 minutes, and I have 40 different pictures, but I always have to find new ones because I get bored of them!"

So far you have submitted one song to the audio portal. Do you plan to release more songs on Newgrounds?

Emma:

"I will definitely be submitting more songs as I received Apple Logic Pro for Christmas! I am still getting used to the features and formatting, though; and, coupled with the season, work, and school, I will still have some DnB songs finished sometime. I'll be sure to make a news post about it when I submit each song!"

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Emma:

"Hmm, now what could I say that I wouldn't mind being permanently recorded for the world to see - not very much, haha. I am a supervillain - Oops. Something else! Oh, I know: I have never knowingly tasted alcohol of any sort in my life. I have seen the effects of it, and am very unimpressed. You can still have fun without being intoxicated. I have also never smoked or used drugs, as I enjoy having what health I have! So, you'll probably say I'm a "goody-goody", but nobody has the full picture as of yet. I'd also like to add that none of this has to do with my faith, simply my observations and use of common sense."

What can we expect from you in the future, Emma?

Emma:

"You can expect more songs for one! And, you can look forward to more philosophical topics if you are the debating type. Just be sure to refrain from personal attacks (yeah, yeah, I know I'm beating a dead horse here)."

Interview with Emma

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Xenomit?

Xenomit:

"Well, I don't know how far back my knowledge of Newgrounds goes, but I do remember signing up. One of my friends had been showing me around Newgrounds a lot around that time (about 2 years ago). One day I was bored and decided to sign up. I have chosen the name Xenomit for a complex reason. At the time, I couldnt think of a good username, and decided that since I probably wasnt going to use Newgrounds much, I would just choose a completely random object. The first thing that came to mind was Xenomit, a rare mineral from a game I played a lot at the time called Dark Orbit."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Xenomit:

"Yes, very much. When I first joined, I was a much more shy person (in real life, I was almost obnoxious on the internet. Now, im the guy to go to for several things, and have many acquaintances. As far as how I've changed on Newgrounds, its been like a wicked roller coaster. For the first 6 months of my membership, I paid no attention to newgrounds. Then for several months, I was a really, REALLY active user. And finally, I lost internet at my house, and thats when I became an irregular user again, and thats where I am now."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you ?

Xenomit:

"Oh wow, there are many users on here that I like. I guess the few I like the most would be zag, Confucianism, Bryan, tox, and Sevkat. Zag is really the first person I met on newgrounds, I dont remember how we met, but I consider her to be one of my best online friends, even though we dont talk very often. Now, as for Confucianism, well, im not going to go very far into the details of our relationship. And by relationship, I mean... "more than friends". The most I'll say about him is that we do plan on living together soon. Its not a good time for either of us to move right now."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Xenomit:

"Well, I have former harassers, but that was so long ago I forgot most of them by now. I can remember Rummy0, s/he was one of the worst, and for a while there was another guy that no one liked, I cant remember his name, and there was another guy named "bloody tampon (*account got deleted)" or something like that, he was just a troll but he was still really annoying. I dont really have any enemies, im just too nice of a guy to devote my time to hating someone."

What is your opinion about the forums?

Xenomit:

"I think they're pretty cool, but there are too many trolls/ young (like, 12 and 13 years old) people for me to fully enjoy it 100%. Now, dont get me wrong, I like people who goof off, when I say troll, i mean the kind of person that spends every second of his time on a forum trying to get everyone mad, and just never quits harassing people."

Is there one forum that you prefer?

Xenomit:

"I mostly stay on the general forum, simply because of the fact that you can talk about anything (except furries, one of the few topics I'd actually be baws at). If what my second favorite one was mattered, then it'd be the clubs and crews. A forum where you can devote a topic towards one specific thing is always nice."

Xenomit:

"Zag, i would love to see a "zag" based interview."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Xenomit:

"Some do, others dont. I dont keep up with the names of any of the moderators, but it's like an anarchy. The mod I dislike the most is Eyelovepoozy. He has banned me and countless others for really pointless crap, and to add insult to injury, he then makes a smartass comment on why he did it.

If Newgrounds were more like a democracy, where members pick the moderators, then it'd be awesome. I would be already one, just for the fact that, and I quote, I'd be "a really chill mod".

It'd be even cooler if there was such thing as a "thane" status, in which if enough users like you, then you become a thane (someone who is highly revered. I got the idea from skyrim)."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Xenomit:

"Well, it would be cool to be a moderator, but I dont think im active enough to be a very useful mod. As I said in the last passage, a lot of people have said I'd be a cool mod, for my laid-back "all loving" personality."

The redesign is rumored to happen within the next months, are you looking forward to it? What kind of changes do you want to see?

Xenomit:

"Yeah, but I hope they dont change the main picture up at the top very much, its pretty kick-ass. As far as any major changes go, I just hope they add some cool new features to the bbs. One at the top of my list being some sort of a popularity status. It would have to be nothing simpilar than a button with a number above/ bellow it. If someone thinks you deserve it, they can click the button, thus adding to the stat."

You seem to be a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Can you tell our readers how you became a fan and what you like about the show? Has being a brony affected your life?

Xenomit:

"Well, there was no one thing that made me wach the show. I first heard about it from an adult swim bump. They were pointing out words that creep them out, and the new word that creeped them out the most was "brony", and they proceeded to give the definition, which was "a male fan of My little pony: friendship is magic". At the time, I was also creeped out by that, how enough guys could become fans of a girly show that they make a word for it. Anyway, I also saw some other things about it, and, again, was bored one day, so I decided to see it. After I watched the first episode, I was hooked, big time. The biggest reasons I like the show, truthfully, is because of my furryism. I like the show because its like an endless fap-fest."

Do you appreciate the possibility to post about the show in the The Official Mlp:fim Crew thread?

Xenomit:

"Well, while I do appreciate the option to post, I actually dont go there that often. I mean, obviously I dont have much time for it, but even if I did, I probably wouldnt visit it that much. Really just because they seldomly talk about the show itself or the characters, most of what I've seen them talk about are music videos, parodies, and fan-made videos. I prefer to conversate about what I mentioned a few lines up."

I found 2 audio submissions on your userpage. Do yo enjoy making music and will you release more of your music to the audio portal?

Xenomit:

"Yes, I did enjoy making those two, but no, I dont think i'll be making much anytime soon. The only reason i made those two you see is because I was bored, and had nothing else to do. Also, because I made them using a website called "Soundation", and since I dont have internet readily available anymore, I just don't put away time to make anything. If I ever get internet back at my house, or if I find and buy an off-line program, I probably would, but until then, no, dont expect anything from me."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Xenomit:

"To be completely honest, most people I care to talk to knows all of my secrets already.

I guess there is one thing....

I've fapped to heavy, and I mean HEAVY gore before. It wasnt a video or anything, it was actually a story, called sweet apple massacre, and it's based on mlp. Its about a male character named big mac, and three other characters named "the cutie mark crusaders" , their individual names being apple bloom, sweetie belle, and scootaloo. Big mac ties up these three young follies in his apple cider cellar, and brutally, I mean BRUTALLY sexually tortures them, proceeding to kill them and rape theyre dead bodies. I mean, he even takes an old rusted blade and cuts one of they're stomachs while he rapes her. From there her body essentially falls apart, and he just fucks her lifeless pile of flesh."

What can we expect from you in the future, Xenomit?

Xenomit:

"Just the same thing as usual, I'll still be talking about my fetishes, and posting furries, ect., it's one of the few topics I have any knowledge/ interest in. I do plan on getting cheap home internet soon, and if that happens, I 'll be a whole lot more active, and I 'll return to being a revered newgrounds regular."
