Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user creepyboy.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username creepyboy?

creepyboy:

"I found about Newgrounds back in ’06 when I started to mess around with Flash, a friend of mine showed me the site and I got hooked with flash series like Tankman, Xombie, Hyperboy, Retarded Animal Babies, Blockhead and Salad Fingers and watched basically every animation on the front page; then a few months later I made an account and started to post my own stuff in the flash portal and then I started to join to art contests on the Art Forum and hanging around in General.

creepyboy is just a cool name I came out at the time, no story behind it."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

creepyboy:

"Sure I’ve changed, thanks to Newgrounds I’ve improved, slowly but steady, as an artist thanks to the advices I've got on the Art Forum and the users who have commented on my art over the years."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

creepyboy:

"I like a lot of users, in the Art Forum I like ReNaeNae, TurkeyOnAStick, BizarroJoe and Luwano just to name a few. They’re very talented artists and helpful users."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

creepyboy:

"I haven’t made any enemies so far, and the only user I don’t like is ngman7, he used to ruin every single thread about comic book movies with his religious trolling, good thing he doesn’t post anymore."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

creepyboy:

"The forums are fun, I’ve been an active member in several forums around the web for years and I keep coming back here for the feel of a community Newgrounds has, not only the forums but the site overall.

I prefer the Art Forum because, like I said, the little but helpful community and the General forum is a cool place to procrastinate and discuss banal stuff.

I’d like to see ReNaeNae or TurkeyOnAStick get interviewed by you, if you haven’t already."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

creepyboy:

"The Art forum mods do a great job and are very helpful, I have no complains about them; The General forum mods and the Chat mods have a harder job, because those places are a mess (in a good way) and they try to do their best to enforce the rules."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

creepyboy:

"Maybe an Art mod, but in the future when I feel more confident about my artistic and social skills."

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

creepyboy:

"I didn’t hang out on Newgrounds much before the 2007 redesign, but I found it an interesting site, especially the Flash Portal because I didn’t knew any site with such a feature. What I liked the most about the 2007 redesign were the userpages because social networks weren’t still a thing back then and I thought it was very cool how every user had its own little space to submit their stuff."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The last redesign happened 2012. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

creepyboy:

"I like the redesign overall, it’s a little more organized and the new options, like the social feed, are very useful and the new video player is a great option for people who wants to submit movies that aren’t 100% flash. The only bad thing is that it can be a little confusing for people who don’t spend that much time on the site."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You are an artist. When did you start drawing? Which Newgrounds artists inspire you? Since you like art collabs, what would be your dream team and what project would you produce together?

creepyboy:

"I know this is a cliché answer, but I started to draw since I had a pencil in my hand, but I started to take art as a semi-serious hobby when I was around 13-14 years old and it has been an almost constant hobby since then.

Newgrounds artists that inspire me? Hmmmm, that’s a tough one because there’s a LOT of talented artists in here, but if I had to make a top five I’d go with (in no particular order): JohnnyUtah, BizarroJoe, Aigis, ReNaeNae and Sabtastic.

I don’t really have a “dream team” but I’d love to produce something interactive like the Holiday Worm collab but with a different theme, maybe Halloween or something Newgrounds related."

Until 2011, you posted animations on Newgrounds. Is that something that you could see yourself getting back into or are you not interested in animating anymore?

creepyboy:

"Animation is such a time consuming activity and I don’t have the time and the energy to do it anymore. I’d like to animate again something for Pico Day but I don’t see myself doing it in the near future."

Judging from your art, you seem to be a big fan of the Marvel universe. Which heroes is/are your favourites? Are you looking forward to the upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy movie?

creepyboy:

"My favorite Marvel heroes are Nightcrawler, Deadpool, Wolverine, X-23, Hulk and I used to like Spider-Man but the recent comic books, movies and animated shows ruined the character for me.

And of course I’m excited for the Guardians movie! I love that we live in a time where superhero movies are so well done and profitable that such obscure heroes as the Guardians are getting their own movie. I hope the movie is as fun and badass as the trailers show."

Breaking Bad is one of your favourite tv shows. Now that it ended, what did you like the most about this show? What were you favourite moments?

creepyboy:

"Another cliched answer, but I like EVERYTHING about Breaking Bad, the cinematography and production values, the amazing cast, the soundtrack and the setting are top notch, but it was the clever writing and the pacing of the show what hooked me in the first place; Breaking Bad is the perfect show to watch if you're looking for a compelling story and consistent quality.

Breaking Bad is filled with great moments, but if I have to chose my most favorite moments I'd go with (SPOILERS): The exploding tortoise, Hank's showdown with The Cousins, the “I am the danger” speech, Walt avenging Jesse with the explosive, the death of Gus and basically all the season 4 finale. I could keep going."

Kirby is your favourite video game character. Which Kirby games do you like the most?

creepyboy:

"Kirby is not my favorite video game character, maybe you got that impression because I've made some fan-art of him, he's a fun character to draw but that's it. And I know they're not technically “Kirby games” but I like the Super Smash Bros. games and he's one of my favorite characters to play with."

Asandir:

"I indeed got that impression from the awesome fanart that you posted in the thread Draw Your Favourit Game Character ^^ "

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

creepyboy:

"I have a lot of secrets, but I'll take them to the grave. But if I really have to tell you a secret: I'm very introverted and I have problems to make friends, both online and IRL."

What can we expect from you in the future, creepyboy?

creepyboy:

"I expect to make and submit more art, it won't be soon because my laptop broke and I don't have any art software to work with at the moment."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Dr-Worm.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Dr-Worm?

Dr-Worm:

"I had a friend in elementary school who was really into Flash animation and he showed me the site. Either that or I first discovered the site when One Ring to Rule Them All 2 was going viral around my school (this was before YouTube, kids) and branched out from there, whichever came first. Though those were both a couple years before I joined, so I’m not actually sure why I signed up. Considering I was 12 at the time (yeah I lied about my age, I was a rebel without a cause) I’d imagine all the fantastic gratuitous violence and profanity on this site probably had something to do with it.

“Doctor Worm” is the name of a great song by They Might Be Giants. I’ve actually never really been a big TMBG fan, but back in the ‘90s when I was little I was a big fan of the Nickelodeon show Kablam!, which featured a music video for the song. I’ve used some variation of “Dr. Worm” as my username for most of my online activities ever since (at least until the past couple years, when I’ve started using “Those Eyebrows” in reference to my beloved FLCL, hence my current user icon)."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Dr-Worm:

"I’ll have been here for 10 years next month (holy shit), so obviously I’ve changed a lot!

As a user I think I’ve mellowed out substantially over the years, or at least I’ve gotten way less extreme with my language and developed a better sense of what’s worth getting worked up over and what isn’t. I have spilled a lot more digital ink on impassioned rants about the console wars and nitpicking over useless, shallow value judgments of pop cultural products than I care to admit. And like anyone I went through my fair share of Teen Angst so a good number of my older posts are dripping with all kinds of unfounded eye-rolling cynicism, uninformed narcissistic whininess about nonexistent issues like “political correctness gone mad” or “my generation’s terrible _________,” and desperate, insecure attempts to appear aloof or edgy or masculine. I guess I can still sometimes take things a little too seriously on here, but at least now it’s usually about shit that actually matters to me, and it comes from a place of genuine care and interest, not just empty posturing.

Also upon looking back on some of my older posts to help answer this question it kind of amazes me how self-assured and eager I once was to expound with authority on shit I knew absolutely nothing about. Just like with the other stuff I talked about I guess it goes back to sincerity vs. affectation. I was more interested in trying to appear smart than in actually being smart, which entails understanding the limits of your own knowledge and knowing when not to talk.

Plus obviously my whole posting style has changed pretty radically over time. I can actually write coherent sentences and articulate complete thoughts now, which wasn’t always the case. Looking at my older posts makes me cringe not just because of their content but also because of how poorly written they are. Now I actually try to put some effort into them, maybe a little too much effort since as you can probably tell by reading this I can get pretty long-winded. Sorry.

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Dr-Worm:

"Sure, a bunch. First and foremost there’s everyone who’s been taking part in our Movie of the Week discussions over in the Cinema Club thread (which you should all check out!). It’s been really great to see that people are enthusiastic about it and it’s always fun talking to them. In particular TheMaster and Natick have hugely supported the whole thing and have gotten involved nearly every week, Sense-Offender and Auz have been pretty consistent participants too, and Oolaph has even adapted the format and started a whole Album of the Week thing over on the Last.fm Club thread (which you should also check out!), plus even outside MotW they’re all easily among my favorite users. But I’m also always happy to see posts from the people who have dropped in on a more sporadic basis, like Atlas, Piggler, Jackho, Dean, Jolly, and Makeshift. I think we’re definitely starting to carve out a nice little niche over there and they’re all good dudes.

But there are plenty of users outside the Cinema Club that I like too, Slint and HeavenDuff being the first names that come to mind. Also: Powerage and PiperAnn are awesome but I don’t see them post very often. I tend to disagree with 24901miles and orangebomb about some stuff but they’re both cool and smart and I actually enjoy arguing with them. JBK and GACBassPlayer are cool too but I don’t really see them around anymore. I don’t interact much with Feoric and naronic but I do frequently read and appreciate their posts. I don’t care what anyone else says, supergandhi64 is great, the rare example of a so-called troll account whose shtick is decidedly not based around indiscriminately harassing and insulting people (plus if his sig is any indication he’s a Tales of Game’s fan, so what’s not to like). And lots more, like AxTekk, Ryanson, Jester, Light, Viper50, Entice, Wegra, BumFodder, Otto, EclecticEnnui, Splats, ZJ, and CheezNapkin.

So uh, yeah, I like lots of people on here. I guess I wouldn’t keep coming here if I didn’t."

Dr-Worm:

"I mean, I think it’s a little silly to be making “enemies” on an Internet forum, but there are certainly some people on here that I find especially noxious and unpleasant and I generally just try to avoid them. I’m not going to be a dick and start calling people out by name though."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Dr-Worm:

"At this point I’m pretty much spending most of my time in Clubs & Crews because General has gotten a little dispiriting lately. I don’t know if the community has changed or I have, maybe it’s just that I’m getting older, but I feel like nowadays whenever I go to General I find kind of an exhausting amount of cynicism and forced ironic detachment and adolescent posturing and crude insults (not to mention the casual sexism, racism and homophobia that still regularly pop up from time to time). I don’t really find that stuff funny or cool anymore and I can’t will myself to post as much as I used to because of it.

And it’s a shame because at its best, when people set all that silly shit aside (and I think they do set it aside more often than I might be giving them credit for right now), this place really is a bright, creative, fun and unique community and there are lots of cool people here, but too often those people end up shouted down or drowned out or scared off. And it’s also a shame because I think a lot of users recognize what I’m talking about but throw their hands up and say “oh well, that’s just the Internet,” but it really doesn’t have to be that way at all.

Obviously there are always going to be a few cowardly assholes who take advantage of the anonymity of the Internet to say all kinds of vile, mean-spirited shit without fear of reprisal, but the rest of us could probably stand to ignore those types and treat people online a little more closely to the way (I would hope) we treat people in real life. I certainly didn’t always think this way, but I’ve been trying to be more aware of it recently and I think the quality of my posts has increased dramatically as a result. It’s really not that hard.

The tiniest bit of empathy and respect and sincerity would make this place infinitely better. Not to mention that it can actually surprise and disarm people and help you win arguments, far more than just calling the other guy an idiot in any event.

Anyway, as for other users I’d like to see interviewed, obviously supergandhi64 would be one for the ages if you could get him to give more than one-line responses. TheMaster or HeavenDuff or AxTekk could be cool interview subjects. Sekhem is rarely boring."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Dr-Worm:

"Sure, for the most part, though obviously it varies from person to person. I guess sometimes they can still be a little too lenient towards blatant sexism/racism/homophobia but they’ve gotten much better about that over the years."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Dr-Worm:

"I dunno, it seems straightforward enough and I’m here pretty often, but I have no strong feelings about it either way."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

Dr-Worm:

"God who can remember. Uh…this has nothing to do with the redesign but the community was certainly a lot bigger back then, wasn’t it?

Wait, was that when the site changed its slogan, or was that even earlier? Because as much as I understand that decision and appreciate the many ways the site has grown up over the years I still feel like for better or worse “The Problems of the Future, Today!” describes us much better than the newer one.

I think all of my memories of NG changing have nothing to do with the actual redesigns. In my head the main split between “old” and “new” NG is the lack of banner ads for hentai e-zines."

The last redesign happened 2012. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Dr-Worm:

"I like it, the site’s become very slick and modern without losing any of its character. I like the addition of userpics on the forums and the de-emphasis on level icons (considering I haven’t deposited in like seven years). Though I hope they get around to consolidating all the different social aspects into one thing because right now it’s a little unwieldy. And I still don’t understand the reasoning behind not having an edit button on the forums.

Yeah, I dunno, I’ve actually pretty much exclusively come here for the BBS for several years now so I’m not totally sure how the redesigns have affected most of the site."

Shadow of the Colossus is one of your favourite games. Tell my readers what makes this game stand out as one of the true gems of recent video game history. Also, are you looking forward to The Last Guardian?

Dr-Worm:

"Well I’m a huge Zelda fan and Shadow of the Colossus is basically a Zelda game stripped down to its bare essentials. The game respects its mechanics and its world and (perhaps most importantly) the player enough to get rid of all the extraneous bullshit most games throw in to artificially hold our attention. Where most games feature an increasingly convoluted series of items and powerups and skill progressions to give the player a puffed-up sense of accomplishment and keep them from getting bored, SotC gives you three simple tools at the very beginning of the game – a sword, a bow, and a horse – and that’s all you’ll ever get or need. The game fully explores the possibilities laid out by those three items (along with the environment and your own hands) instead of constantly adding new mechanics and failing to fully flesh out any of them.

Where most games try to stuff every moment with stimulation, SotC leaves room for contemplation. Between each of the game’s 16 Colossi (which are like Zelda dungeons and boss battles rolled into one) there’s nothing but gorgeous, often desolate natural environments to ride through. No enemies or sidequests or puzzles or collectibles (well, sort of; there are two collectibles that actually boost the few “stats” you have, but the game does nothing to point them out to you and they’re practically easter eggs), just you and your horse. There’s a palpable sense of loneliness and melancholy to the whole thing, but also an odd kind of peace and calm.

And here’s where the game does that brilliant Team Ico thing where it establishes a strong emotional bond between the player and an NPC entirely through game mechanics. Agro is the only company you have for the whole game, and there are lots of little interactions and tricks you can do with him that never serve any practical purpose. So essentially the game uses these stretches of time between Colossi to ultimately make the player form a legitimate emotional attachment to a goddamn video game horse (which has a major narrative payoff late in the game). It’s amazing.

But then, of course, when it comes down to the real action the game does not fuck around. The Colossi are (mostly) huge, literally awe-inspiring creatures that move and act like real living things; it’s hard not to feel a twinge of regret as you hear them wail in pain or watch them fall to the ground dead (making SotC one of the few action games that doesn’t shy away from the real consequences of killing even as it encourages the thrills of fantasy violence). Each fight has the same basic structure, in that you have to figure out a way to grab onto the Colossus and clamber up to its marked weak point, hanging on for dear life while it thrashes you around. But each one is totally different from the last, each a clever video game level unto itself that makes you rethink your assumptions about how the game works. Every Colossus encounter starts with an incredulous feeling of “how in the hell can I possibly bring that thing down?” and ends up being one of the most exhilarating experiences in games when you actually manage to do it.

Um, yeah, long story short SotC is my favorite game ever and I could probably ramble on about it like this for hours (but I’ll stop now).

Is The Last Guardian even happening anymore? At this point even if it does see the light of day I can’t imagine it could possibly be released in any form that isn’t heavily compromised. I try not to think about that game because it’s just too fucking depressing."

I heard that you like The Binding of Isaac. Tell my readers about the appeal of BOI. What other Rogue-likes that have been released in the last years do you like? Are you exited for the remake The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth?

Dr-Worm:

"Oh yeah, I’ve sunk countless hours into that game. Playing to unlock and then try out all kinds of different combinations of power-ups can be incredibly addictive. There’s just so much variety within that really simple structure, especially when you throw in the way certain characters (like ???) or certain items (like the D6) can completely change the way you play. It’s kind of brilliant. Plus I’ve just always been a sucker for games with lots of collectibles and unlockables (yes I realize that totally contradicts what I just said about why I love Shadow of the Colossus, whatever).

I haven’t played all that many other roguelikes, but I am a big fan of Spelunky. I love how the game operates on lots of little logical quirks that are often discovered entirely by trial and error but always make perfect sense afterwards (some of the earlier obvious examples would be learning the pros and cons of sacrificing a damsel or robbing a shopkeeper). Getting better at the game is a matter of actually learning and applying things, not just twitch reflexes and dumb luck (which is admittedly what BoI frequently comes down to). It’s just a really clever, insanely difficult little game. I also played Rogue Legacy for a little while recently, which is basically a roguelike with training wheels, but it’s also clever in its own right with its familial twist on the genre.

And of course I’m excited for Rebirth! It’s really more of a full-on expansion like Wrath of the Lamb than a remake, and I couldn’t be happier about that."

Back in 2010, you had well over 4000 songs on your iPod. How many songs do you have nowadays? Which bands are your favourites of all time?

Dr-Worm:

"Wow, really going for the deep cuts here aren’t we. Uh, my iTunes says I have 5,770 songs now. But I’ve deleted some things and I haven’t been collecting music nearly as much since Spotify became a thing.

Favorite bands? Rather than be the ten billionth person to wax rhapsodic about the Beatles (which I could easily do, at length, because I’m a rabid fan and love everything about them, even Ringo!) I guess I’ll just mention a couple artists who aren’t nearly as well-known but totally deserve to be. Big Star was a power pop band from the ‘70s whose albums #1 Record and Radio City are pretty much perfect. Richard Thompson is a British folk-rock musician who just might be my all-time favorite guitarist (though I know how contentious shit like that can get) and has several decades of great work behind him, as a solo artist and with the group Fairport Convention and especially the work he did with his (now) ex-wife Linda. And Cloud Nothings is probably my favorite contemporary band right now, just great, pretty straightforward indie rock."

FLCL is your favourite anime. Tell me what the anime is about and why you like it.

Dr-Worm:

"I don’t think it’s possible to coherently explain what FLCL is about. It’s a poignant coming-of-age story, a giant robot action show, a hyperactive Looney Tunes short/Godard film, and a long-form psychedelic music video all rolled into one. I think it’s the best representation of early adolescence I’ve ever seen in pop culture.

The show’s got all this crazy imagination and energy but it’s all grounded in a very low-key, human story told in a poetic, elliptical way. The crazier bits have the kind of wild experimentation and aesthetic flair that are usually reserved for film, and the more down-to-earth moments perfectly capture a certain kind of bittersweet autumnal wistfulness that a lot of my favorite pop cultural things seem to have in common. Together they result in a show that utilizes visual storytelling to an extent that you almost never see on TV.

But the writing is also fantastic, though that aspect of the show isn’t brought up nearly as often as the visuals. The characters are all really well-rounded and multilayered and fully realized, the tone effortlessly ping-pongs from the hilarious to the serious and back again, and the dialogue is great even outside its original language, full of multiple layers of meaning and clever wordplay and characters talking over or past each other and all kinds of fun stuff like that.

And FLCL actually relates back to what I was talking about earlier with the whole ironic detachment thing I see on the BBS, because the show is all about how the gradual breaking down of that sort of emotional armor is a necessary part of the process of growing up. Like a lot of kids, Naota and Ninamori erroneously conflate cool detachment with maturity and feign jadedness to blunt their confusing feelings and cope with their less-than-ideal home lives (Mamimi does the opposite for the same purposes, retreating into childish behavior and fantasy). A couple dozen batshit insane metaphors later they all learn better.

I know I’m overselling the shit out of it right now but it really is a great show. It’s only six half-hour episodes long and I think it’s readily available on a bunch of different streaming platforms so definitely check it out if you haven’t already!"

You are an active member of the Cinema Club. Wich movies of 2013 did you like the most? What upcoming movies are you looking forward to? Lastly, what is your favourite movie of all time?

Dr-Worm:

"Yeah, and again I really want to encourage everyone to check out the thread and consider getting involved in our Movie of the Week. It’s a lot of fun and you might watch some cool shit you’d have never heard of otherwise!

Anyway, there were a bunch of movies last year that I really liked but I’d have to say my two favorites were The Act of Killing, which is the kind of brave (not “brave”) and important (not “important”) work that makes most other movies seem trivial in comparison, and Inside Llewyn Davis, whose soundtrack is still stuck in my head months after I last saw it. But I also really liked (in roughly descending order) Frances Ha, The World’s End, Her, Spring Breakers, Computer Chess, The Wolf of Wall Street, 12 Years a Slave, Gravity, The Wind Rises and Upstream Color.

There are quite a few things coming out this year that I’m looking forward to and I’m probably forgetting most of them, but off the top of my head I’m really excited for The Grand Budapest Hotel (which I’m seeing soon!), Boyhood (which Richard Linklater shot with the same actors over the course of 12 years), Inherent Vice, Snowpiercer, Life Itself (the Roger Ebert doc), They Came Together (the same people behind Wet Hot American Summer doing a rom-com parody), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (I was really pleasantly surprised by the first one), Guardians of the Galaxy (I wasn’t really into it until that amazing trailer was released), The Raid 2: Berandal, Frank (which stars a paper mache head-wearing Michael Fassbender), Terry Gilliam’s new movie (assuming it gets a proper release in the US this year), Laika’s new thing, and whatever the hell Terrence Malick is doing. Interstellar and Jupiter Ascending could be cool too but those filmmakers have pretty spotty track records so who knows.

That last one is practically an impossible question to answer, but I guess some of the top contenders would be The 400 Blows, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Wings of Desire, In the Mood for Love, 8 1/2, Aguirre, The Wrath of God, Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans, Zero for Conduct, Holy Motors, and This Is Spinal Tap. For starters…"

Dr-Worm:

"Hmm…I really like to sing. I’m not particularly good at it or anything, I just like doing it, and a big part of why I’ve been learning to play the guitar (which I’m even worse at) for the past few years is to be able to accompany myself.

Most of my friends IRL don’t even really know this, except I guess for the ones I’ve gone on drunken karaoke adventures with."

What can we expect from you in the future, Dr-Worm?

Dr-Worm:

"I’ll probably be spending a little more time in the Cinema Club, tinkering around with the Movie of the Week thing and maybe finding new ways to make it even better and more fun. And I’ll probably be spending a little less time everywhere else. I also might take a stab at getting an actual blog going (maybe here but more likely elsewhere) so I can write more in-depth about movies and TV and games and whining about people being mean to each other on the Internet and whatnot."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user kazumazkan.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username kazumazkan?

kazumazkan:

"In 2003 or so when I was in middle school, maybe a year before that but I'm pretty sure it was 2003; just a regular day in a computer class, I don't remember the class name but it was a free day,the game that I liked was Pico Sim Date and the second one, as well as other games I found, a few years later when my family got a desktop, my brother I believe found the game Riddle School on another website but it had the NG logo/preloader,so I naturally rediscovered NG and played games here as well. We kept the that pc until 2007-8 when it got messed up by virus.

It wasn't till late 2009 when my family moved in to a house, right my behind the one caught fire so we could do repairs on it when we get the insurance money this was around August, when we moved there, maybe the end of July. We got a new desktop and internet around at that house around September but didn't get to use it right away because I had to go the hospital for a day and a half for something I had to do.

So for some time it was flash games and Youtube and at this time I was trying to remember the name of Newgrounds because once again I forgot about it and I think my brother reminded me about it, I went to NG, enjoyed it then attempted to sign up but I had no e-mail adress so after a while me and my brother made an e-mail account and used it to sign up to some websites and I used it to sign up here at NG at the end of november 2009."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

kazumazkan:

"Yes, definitely, I was immature and an "attention whore" when I stumbled on to "a little war among a group of users who were flaming here and there over on one certain user", as well as others who joined in at the moment because when I became a member it was hard for me to convince those that like to attack "the kids" that I was 16 due to the fact that I started flaming as well and using shit spelling and grammar, but it has improved since then.

Also changed in real life, a lot in some aspects and less in other parts but I definitely changed.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

kazumazkan:

"There are some users that are annoying, a few really annoying ones but tolerable and some people can be a pain but it's the internet, what can you do."

And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

kazumazkan:

"The forums are great, I mostly spend my time on the general and video game forums, I like them both equally so I cant say which one I prefer.

Interview EyeLovePoozy, Thor, Wriggle, Painbringer, Piggler, Entice and if you can interview Cootie, that would be cool too."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

kazumazkan:

"My opinion on them, well they are mods so of course they do their job, sometimes they can be maybe unfair or very strict but now they seem more lenient but they won't hesitate to bring the smackdown. They do a pretty good job."

If so, what kind of moderator?

kazumazkan:

"I wouldn't know for sure, would like to be a forum moderator because some shit happens late at night when no other mods are around, like one time some jackass started spamming anal prolapse pictures and other disgusting pictures/porn, Back-From-Purgatory can back me up on this.

This happened around Thanksgiving last year. Also maybe review moderation as I see a lot of abusive reviews."

What do you like and what is not so good?

kazumazkan:

"It's pretty and I like it, although I do miss the previous design but things change, sometimes for the good I guess, the Redesign did make it easier to navigate the site so that's a plus. I do however miss the old userpage headers."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You have a pet iguana, Samantha. When did you get her? Could you imagine getting more exotic pets in the future?

kazumazkan:

"My mom got it from Louisiana, a family friend works over there and found one and she told him to get it and she paid him for the lizard. As for more exotic pets, I don't know this is pretty much all I want, maybe a Bobcat would be nice...."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Judging from your Youtube channel, you seem to be a fan of the GTA series. Which installment of the series is your favourite? What kind of changes would you like to see in future títles?

kazumazkan:

"GTA San Andreas is my favourite of the series and other changes? I wouldn't know, there are some things I would like to see being put in future titles but for now let's enjoy what we got right ?"

You are a fan of Pink Floyd. When did you start listening to them and what are your favourite songs?

kazumazkan:

"When I was younger, my parents listened to this music so naturally their kids would pick up on it. My favourite songs to name a few, are would be Pigs (Three Different Ones), Pigs on the Wing, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Breathe, Echoes, In the Flesh, Mother, Comfortably Numb and many more, I pretty much love all of their songs."

The Walking Dead is one of your favourite tv series. As somone who hasn't watched the show, tell me what the show is about and why you like it. Did you play the Walking Dead game(s)? If so, did you like them?

kazumazkan:

"To sum it up quickly it's about a Zombie Apocalypse and its focus is on Rrick Grimes and his son and the group and the struggles they have to face on their journey for safety.

As for the games, I liked the Telltales games as well as the FPS one, it was rather quickly produced, it had a good concept and some nice ideas but unfortunately got rushed to get released too early but you can blame Activision on that. For me it was still decent, I liked it and found it enjoyable."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

kazumazkan:

"I don't really have any secrets so yeah..."

What can we expect from you in the future, kazumazkan?

kazumazkan:

"What to expect from me, I hope to learn to play instruments and do make better music and I want to learn how to make flash games and animations. Other then that whatever comes my way and the ideas I get."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Idiot-Finder.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username BlackPaladin87 and why did you change it to Idiot-Finder?

Idiot-Finder:

"I first discovered the site in the fall of 2001. The reason I got there was because after 9/11, I started searching for anti-Osama flash contents for the same reason any Americans would have, being that he's a piece of shit terrorist (although the conspiracy nut sacks would love to have you think otherwise). I was going to join then but unfortunately, there were setbacks that prevented me from being able to do so, this includes similar passwords, screen name already being taken, and so on.

I eventually put it off for a while though I still came to the site frequently. Not to mention the problem with the internet access after my parents went to switch to AOL and we weren't able to log in for few months. It did came in during the time when AOL started to decline after its merger so that tells you something. AOL have gotten back now but back then, it was a disaster.

The main reason I wanted to sign in was because of the voting power. I honestly didn't think it would have that long to build up even ten times the amount as the tagline have promised. I mean the tagline about your voting power would be worth ten times if you register is what got me to do so in the first place. Then there's the fact that a notorious anti-American review troll "Xito" would go and do what he does best. You can say that he was my first enemy in NG so when I first came in, my user name was "xitosucks"...yeah, I know. (That's right people, I wasn't Idiot-Finder from the start. Reason why I used that name? I'll get to that later)

Back then, the rules were lax so you can get away with whatever you would post on the reviews, with that I would post reviews just to respond to someone else's reviews. Eventually, Xito would go into a decline and eventually disappear few years later, never to be heard from again. I then later changed my name to BlackPaladin87 because I was that big of a fan of Yu-Gi-Oh (I'm still am to an extent, just not as much as that time). I mean think about it, that card was a fusion between the African American Magician and the Buster Blader (the card whose effects enables it to take out a Caucasian dragon), what's better than that?

Eventually I changed to "Idiot-Finder" which actually came from the Yankees forum board where that time, the forum was horribly moderated, leading to onslaught of trolls. Hell, a Red Sox troll got away with posting how he wanted terrorists to crash planes into the Yankee Stadium!

This is one of the reasons why I sometimes want to track certain people down and slit each and every one of them in the throat. That forum was the closest thing you could get to an internet anarchy until a certain site (what must not be named!) came to town.

But then there's a user known as "Idiot-Finder" who appears and does what his screen name suggests he would do, he responds to trolls with "Found one!"

Sometimes it was "Whoa, here's a wild one." or "We have a winner!"

He eventually disappeared but it gave me an idea.

But as you know, "Found one!" would eventually become illegal in Newgrounds forum and you can guess why ;)

If anything, this current name I'm using is more or less an artifact name, NG Idiot-Finder was no longer the finder of idiots since 2009 where a last moment of glory came about when a Holocaust denier got banned and I PM the guy with "Found one!"

Remember the thread titled "Drunk with power?"

He thought I was the one who banned him!

The exploits would live on in the stories I wrote which are essentially crackfics and lately I started using my real name instead I mean, who the heck would call people by their screen name in real life? More importantly, how many people you know would even know what you do over the internet? There are exceptions when it comes to the story, only because I don't know other users' actual name but I'm not going to ask them. That's something what Google would do, as well as what they do in China."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Idiot-Finder:

"Kind of, but that has a bit more to do with real life than over the internet. However, at the same time, I also realize that when it comes to internet, it's the place where one can talk crap and gets away with it. Not to mention it's also the place where you can talk with strangers and be fine with it. The main change for me on NG was that I have start writing posts that are at least few sentences.

Thing is I could have done it on a given topic but more often than not, there's not much to discuss. Sometimes they're not worth discussing in the first place.

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Idiot-Finder:

"Yes, one user I like is Coop as we're both fans of the same baseball team and have known each other (from the internet anyway) in the baseball thread on the "Club & Crew" section. I know there's not much to discuss right now but then again, it is the off season so there wasn't much in the first place aside from the fact that the Yankees screwed up on Cano which I still haven't gotten over and I'll leave it at that.

He did ban me few times but to be fair, I had fights with some users and it leads to consequences. It also happens to be the reason why I haven't been involved in the Politics section. He's a fair mod who does what has to be done and few times we did PM each other during the ban to discuss what happened on sports.

Not to mention, back in the 51+ thread when I started writing an ongoing series about voting enhancement drugs, I featured him as a character and he did agree to participate for a while. The one scene Coop added, he had his character trying to buy an anime doujin that happens to be available. After series of misadventures, he eventually asked me to write him off because he have gotten tired of it so I agreed. I do have him making cameo appearances but good things has to come to an end.

It was sort of a buddy cop adventure that takes place in the Hong Kong arc where the event climaxed at the retelling of "Curry & Pepper" where I was the one who screws up while he's the sane one (with an occasional not above it all...)."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Idiot-Finder:

"First it was Xito, popenfresh, sumgui, and Detesticus who has a tendency to have a certain political agenda that isn't quite popular with the majority of the users in NG. Then there was a anti-American flash maker currently known as James-Ball (though some of his flash have shown that he does have talents, but wasted it on low grade political-troll flashes).

Of the bunch, the one I couldn't stand the most was popenfresh, I mean you know leanlifter1 right? This guy was the prototype and perhaps much worse as well. The guy would not only post anti-American messages on the Politics section which was a cesspool at the time, he would also insults users he argues with and veer from the debate but mocking the person's personal interests.

Who the heck does that?

Later there was TheLastSpartan, ShaggyTheClown, Zen444, TehReTard, Worthless-Wisdom, and MadCow. To be honest with you, I actually appreciate the last two since they seem to take the time to go after me, even creating a topic on how much they hated me.

As for Zen and his pet retard, they're just assholes and were known in the forum as such so not much to be said although I sometimes suspected each of them of using their alt to post shit toward me, I mean the posts are similar.

ShaggyTheClown was basically what happens if TheKlown is a conspiracy wack job and he would sometimes use an alt to support his "argument". Why I think so? Look at the post by jackkniphe and the fact that they both have the tendency to attack the users who debate against them. There's also the fact that he would post links from biased sources and when asked to provide better sources to back up his point, he just copy and paste the same link several times over. Then there's the fact that he followed me to the "Regular Lounge Thread" to attack me (leanlifter1 went to do the same to orangebomb not long ago).

TheLastSpartan? As people have known about a stretchy sumo user who denies holocaust and post sources that aren't exactly reputable, this guy's on a whole new level. Basically, when a point is made toward him, he would move the goalpost and ignore whatever was presented to him. he would also post personal attacks on the people whom he "debates" against and it's the same old story until one day, his life would change.

The thing is that TheLastSpartan made a huge mistake, the worse possible one could make over the internet...he posted a picture of himself in his profile. I don't know the full story but from what I heard, someone post his picture on Encyclopedia Dramatica article of Newgrounds and someone from his school saw it. When his posts were read, basically something happened and his posts were wiped out along with his stats he spend years to build up to that point.

Kinda like what happened to RancidPsychoJosh (I was told he was permabanned as well, long story and it was years ago, he's also on my hate list but then again, who actually likes the guy?)

Now? There's leanlifter1, TheKlown, Mydarklord, and Wriggle.

However, anyone with a fraction of a brain would have know about these guys and why they're idiots. There is not much more to be said.

Same goes for VGmaster who whines whenever the U.S. sports team didn't win. I do understand his frustration, I mean I still haven't gotten over the epic failures of the U.S. hockey team at Sochi. But this guy whined about the Yankees not winning a game on 9/11 in 2009!

Seriously, WTF!

Then there's supergandhi64, the same reason for TheKlown among others.

Lastly, bigbadron, people may whine about Poozy as I mentioned before but this guy is truly what happens if you gave the modship to a troll.

bigbadron has a tendency to ban anyone he thinks violates the rule, even if it's what one can describe as a "small scrape". Not only that, he would even go after people that made posts he just didn't like and rather than just delete them, he'd hand out bans like he's giving out candies. I don't know what the hell was his problem but I was happy when he finally got demodded, seriously, he's a horrible mod and probably the most abusive on NG to date.

This is what happens when you hand a modship to a troll. No really, I wouldn't be surprised if some of his bans are made to troll users.

Lastly, Dream-of-Duke.

To sum it up, just read his posts in the baseball thread at "C & C" section and you'll understand. However, he did gain a reputation at the "EGB" when he created an alt to pretend that he has a girlfriend. Needless to say, he was found out and the results are hilarious.

So yeah, he's generally hated by many."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Idiot-Finder:

"My opinion on the forums tends to vary.

Thing is that it really depends on certain time as the General section can be filled with stupid things but to be fair, there are good number of times I indulged in the stupidity as well. For example, around 2005 I got into the photoshop thread craze as one would create a thread titled, "Photoshop Insert Subject Here!"

I don't know if I set the record for most photoshop threads created but over half of them annoyed the hell out of just about everyone.

Honestly, how many people would want to photoshop a base picture of someone's head? You don't get anything out of it!

Not to mention some of the people are obscure and I only did it because they're douchebags reported on the news. Also some of the topics are random items.

They were TheKlown level posts.

The forum I liked the most is "Where is/How to" as it keeps tracks of stats that are generally meaningless if you maxed out the voting power and the level rank but still, you can't help but follow them!

Also the medal thread...I need more medals!

With that said, have orangebomb, Coop, and Ryanson been interviewed? Would love to see them."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Idiot-Finder:

"I do think the current team of mods are doing a good job, just hope they can avoid the trap that Canas have fallen into...twice. Funny thing is that I didn't hate Canas, in fact his situation was pretty funny. I mean, how many people are dumb enough to get phished twice? Did the Aflac Division offered him free candy or something? Come on!

With that said, I liked the current team, just wish that Poozy comes back though, his sports threads are fun. If he had created the Olympic thread, it would have been a huge hit."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Idiot-Finder:

"To tell you the truth, years ago, yes.

But now, I'm not exactly sure. Keep in mind, being a mod does takes a measure of responsibility, how much is the question since I have no clue in that regard.

Sometimes you have some uptight pricks running the show while you have some that are too lenient that it can turn the entire board into the Yankees forum from early to mid-2000s (I had to do that).

If I want to become a mod, I would go with the forum since I tend to hang around in that place a lot for the past several years. If it does happen, don't get your hopes up, I have no intention to use "Found one!" as a ban message and besides, it's an easy way to get demodded so it's better off saved for really bad trolls."

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign. Also talk about the 2012 redesign.

Idiot-Finder:

"Boy, do I have a story to tell!

Back then, the site was pretty slow due to tons of pop up ads. It doesn't help that my family were using dial up that time so it made it a tad bit worse (In the style of Bob Uecker when Vaughn made that wild pitch in "Major League"). After my failed attempts to register into the site, I gave up.

I still visit the site for the flash games until the switch from MSN to Aol and you know what happened, the web became nonfunctional.

It would be like that for weeks until we figured out the problem (technical support wasn't much of a help back then so it took a while, also I didn't really want to try).

Skip several months later after an oversea vacation from Taiwan, Hong Kong (my favorite part), and China (my first experience with squat toilet...), I eventually did registered into NG with my aforementioned user name, "xitosucks". If I see someone with a screen name like that now, I'd laugh.

Then after some changes you know what happens.

However, the biggest change I experienced was the website itself in late 2002. You know about the blam and save system, but that time, there's only blams and users can only get it through direct blam. Basically, if you're lucky enough to land a finishing 0-1 vote, you get all the credit while the people who helped made it possible for you to get the point walks away with as much meaningful trophies as Alfred Hitchcock (Honorary Award don't count).

As a result, users would simply refrain from voting in hopes of strengthening it with tons of experience points until they felt it's strong enough to land the final blow to a crappy flash. With an added bonus, if you manages to blam it, you get directed to a flash video where a flash work gets shot down by a laser blast, destroying someone else's "hard work". Come to think of it, if you vote, you would be treated to a Pico animation where he throws either a heart or a bomb at the flash, increasing or decreasing the score depending on how you vote.

Back to the topic, because of the fact that users would try to get the blam, there would be countless of flash still linger in the portal and nobody would care. Wade would then change the system where users would be credited for a blam point and protection point (aka saves) the same way we do now. After the new system was implemented, everyone went on a blam hunt and I actually took the time to use search and it was a gold mine!

That time, there was no "Under Judgement" so you can still see the score, reviews, and the number of votes before it even passed the threshold. You can easily vote without watching it and this would pose a problem for Wade because he was afraid that people have gotten blam hungry. I myself lost count on how many direct blam flashes I have seen that day but I do remember a record was set on the portal and will never be surpassed, the most flashes blammed in one day. I forgot exactly how many but it's hard to believe now if you think about it.

Another thing is that the threshold for the flash to pass was the score of 1.5 and above and 100 votes. But then, Wade started to become worried because he felt that some of the quality flashes were likely dragged down with the crappy ones so he went to change the system once again. He began by forcing the users to wait until the flash loads before they can vote but some of us were able to exploit the flaw by clicking on the link to open the flash and close it whiel the voting panel activates. Later, the score, reviews, and the number of votes were blocked and that's when the birth of "Under Judgement" takes its course.

Later, the number of votes required to pass have been risen to 200 whiel the threshold score was brought up to 2. The reason was that people started to become save happy and that's when things started to go downhill...

Truth is, good number of crap in the portal wouldn't have made it past judgement had they been submitted back then. In the end, the judgement have deteriorated to the point that the only day where the crappy flash are allowed to pass (Clock Day) became uneventful (2007 was the best for me). It was fun...but at the same time, maybe the current system was for the best since there are some good flash that got dragged down to hell because we based the quality of the flash form the author's poor commentary and experience.

As for the reviews, with anarchy going around, the current review system would be installed. The problem was that users can get penalized for the past reviews that were written years ago, I still have few of these reviews from 2002 that responds to Xito's idiocy, good thing there's a statue of limitation made for that later on.

There's also the popularity thing in the profile based on the number of hits received each week. It was done away with because users would try to abuse it by clicking on their own profile even though it wouldn't work. With that said, my peak was #87, the only time I made top 100 before it was abolished.

There was a Steven Seagal flash that happens to be popular for some reason but I never got around to check it out. After it disappeared, there are some obsessive fans taking shots toward Atom Films when someone mentioned that the author sold the rights to it. Not sure what really happened but yeah.

Needless to say, I liked the 2007 redesign.

The reason is that I felt the new design was a refreshing change of pace compared to a more darker and plainer look. Not to mention it is one of the few times the redesign made the site navigation no different after few days of getting used to. I do missed the blam flash, save flash that came a bit later, and having someone blowing my whistle. The site actually retained the whistle system for a while until few years ago...

There's also a gem that represents the amount of views the flash gets, that's gone too sadly.

As for the 2012 redesign, I have a heavy dislike for it. While it's not as bad as what Google have done to YouTube over dozens of times each year, it still made the site tougher to navigate and it takes even longer to get used to compared to the 2007 edition. You can say that I was deeply disappointed and the worst part is that the literature portal is still in a developmental hell!"

Seems like you watch the anime (and read the manga) Naruto. What do you like about the show? Who are your favourite characters? Which story arc is your favourite? Which other anime do you like?

Idiot-Finder:

"I used to.

I still like some characters, especially Hinata but the problem I have with the series is how they would beat you in the head with the same stupid message several times over until you wind up with brain damage worse than Carlos Rivera's.

Villain WAH, my life sucks and people treat me like crap so therefore, I should become and evil jackass by making the whole world suffer!

cue several episodes or chapters of flashbacks

Hero Wow, you're right but I once I become the Hokage, I will make sure the world will be better, believe it!

Villain Yes and being that I have a sad past, this should make people feel sorry for me despite all the shit I did, including killing countless innocents! FEEL SORRY FOR ME!

Stupid fan I instantly bought it because...cycle of revenge, lol!

I'm sorry, but had Pein did killed Hinata (which he pretended to do but still...), no sob story would stop me from wanting him to die horribly. Having a sucky past isn't going to excuse that actions you have performed, I mean why should people who has nothing to do with your suffering deserve to suffer

While Hokuto no Ken may have helped inspired this crap (flashback and villains' past and all), at least they made it clear that it doesn't necessarily excuse the villains' actions and by the end of the day, they still deserves to die, no cycle of violence bullshit!

I don't really have a favorite arc but if there is one, maybe the Sasuke Retrieval Arc.

With that said, while I grew up with DBZ, it's not the first anime series I was introduced to. I have no idea what was the first I have seen but the earliest I remembered was Tenku Senki Shurato, a somewhat obscure Saint Seiya ripoff where two friends were transported into a Hindu religion to fight evil bent on trying to kill a woman whom I later learn shared the same VA with Konata's mom. One of them was brainwashed while the other who is the main character have to find a way to save him.

I didn't like the series at first when I was watching the Canto-dubbed video as a kid because it kinda scared me a bit, such as when a ambiguously homosexual dropped Shurato from a large height after telling him to let him go (turns out it was a comedic scene), then there's one episode where a man was electrocuted to a crisp. It took a while for me to actually enjoy the series and while it is a ripoff, it still have a special place in my heart as it's probably the first anime series I have seen.

Another early anime series I have seen was from tape that my friend has. She was into some magical girl genre so naturally, there would be some weird ones.

This one happens to be Super Pig which is a magical girl parody where a heroine transform into a flying female pig. yeah, it's that weird.

Then there's Doraemon...just Doraemon.

That series may have been the first one I enjoyed watching from the start. Gotta love how a stupid kid would try to find an easy solution to a problem he runs into, then a robotic cat pulls out a device that can help him, only for the kid to misuse it and you know what happens.

Didn't know the series was that old, I mean the author have been dead for nearly two decades and it's still going on. To be fair, even if he had lived for centuries, it still would have been ongoing. I think he ran out of ideas on how to end it, as well as the fact that the series is still a hit in Asia so the money is indeed a good motivator.

Other series I liked are, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, City Hunter, GTO (prefer the manga as it is finished), FMAB, Hokuto no Ken, DB in general except GT, Azumanga Daioh, Lucky Star (not sure if one would consider it a guilty pleasure but whatever), Saint Seiya, TTGL, and some others I may have forgotten.

Now and then I would look back to the earlier era to find the series to watch.

For the anime movie, My Neighbor Totoro."

You are an avid watcher of american football and basketball. When did you become a fan of those sports and which teams are you rooting for?

Idiot-Finder:

"1998 was the year I became into sports in general, starting with the Bulls because of Michael Jordan. After MJ's second retirement, the Bulls stunk and I stopped caring for a while (I wasn't really ready to be a true fan that time). I eventually did return to being a Bulls fan and that's before they drafted Derrick Rose so HA!

The injuries to Rose have been painful as I want the Bulls to become champions again. Their best shot ended when Rose got hurt in the first game of the playoffs in 2012, allowing the 76ers to win the series in a fluky fashion (TheKlown actually thinks the 76ers would have won regardless but the only people he's fooling are himself and the team's fan base). I know the Bulls wouldn't have gotten past the Heat but they would have been the one to face them later on.

Still waiting for this day and when will it finally happen

Right now the 76ers are paying for the repercussion of a fluky win...then again they made that disasterous trade for Andrew Bynum that blew up on their face.

With that said, I would love to punch a certain idiot in the face for making this thread. Then again he never really made a worthwhile post, reminds me of TheKlown...coincidence

Just hope Rose leads the Bulls to the promise land one day to prove the doubters wrong, especially the sports article that happens to be dissing him (Then again you know Yahoo! Sports, always full of crap). Articles like this gets picked apart in this site which I'm thankful for (also have some good stuff on Lupica's garbage as well).

With that said, 1998 is when I became interested in the Yankees when they won 114 regular season games and unlike most record setting regular season champs, they actually won the whole thing that year. The 2001 Mariners couldn't even make it to the World Series despite their 116-46 record.

It was 2000 when I fully became a fan and stuck with them since then despite their lean years from 2001 to 2008. I know some teams would like to have those lean years but a year without a title means nothing. Do you want to be proud of winning second place when knowing full well that you could have gotten first That's how it is, with huge expectations, any year short of a title is a failure.

The Mets would be my second favorite team by default because they're from New York as well and I also live in the same borough they reside in. I don't care about the Mets as much as I do for the Yankees but if they do well, that's good but if they stunk, meh.

Just hope Harvey recovers, the Mets' future is depended on him.

Then on football, my team are the New York Giants (although their stadium is in New Jersey due to the city's unwillingness to provide their own stadium for them and the Jokes-I mean the Jests-no, the Jets).

While the Giants may not have the same success the Yankees has, they have a rich history and as I said before, they're a NY team. To be fair, in 1998, I became a fan on a whim when the preseason game started and I wasn't aware that they're not exactly good (well, defensively they are but their offense sucked). My favorite player was Tiki Barber even though he was a back up running back that time. The reason why I liked him is because of his name, I mean come on, Tiki Barber!

The name sticks out the most when the commentator mentions his name, Tiki Barber this, Tiki Barber that!

Tiki Barber did go on to become a good player with a fumbling issues and later, a great player before his abrupt retirement where he later starts throwing his team mate and head coach under the bus. 2000-2001 was a magical season for the Giants as they made it to the playoffs that year and made it to the Super Bowl. But the Super Bowl game itself on the other hand was a nightmare.

It's hardly a game, it's a snuff film where Kerry Collins was a victim getting cut apart screaming. I could still see Ray Lewis laughing as he begins to saw off Collins' limb. The Gianbts' defense actually performed well for the most part but Kerry Collins would throw picks after picks, leading the defense to try to defend from a horrible position.

I would loved to forget about the game but I can't because I saw much of it and the trauma remains, plus, halftime show with N'SYNC was disappointing as I'm a fan of theirs.

Then came 2001 where I was hoping the Giants would make it back to the Super Bowl to redeem themselves but there's a problem...in the late 1990s to early 2000s, the Giants offense would ranked top 10 in yards racked up and yet somehow they would rank in the bottom half on scoring, how was that possible

Not only that, the current Saints coach, Sean Payton was the Giants offensive coordinator that time. Now there are people whining on why the Giants let him go but there's a reason why, is this a great offense to you Even Payton himself admit that after he was let go, he would learn from his mistakes during his time with the Vowboys with a help from Bill Parcells.

Also, Kerry Collins and Tiki Barber fumbles the ball way too much.

I know in 2001, Strahan would have a memorable run where he would get the official sack record. I wasn't paying attention to that so I didn't notice as it was the standing I happen to be more focused on.

They didn't make it to the playoffs that years so it was really disappointing.

They did in the 2002-2003 season but what happened sucked, I mean a defensive collapse and a blown call by the blind refs at the end of the game cost them, setting the stage for the true disaster where the team became unwatchable. I considered that season as a true test for my fanhood.

I mean after an okay start, the Giants went on to lose 12 games that year. I barely hung on as a fan and realize that if I can survive this, then you can pretty much guess.

2004 was disappointing but unlike 2003, there was hope (although there are people who wanted Eli Manning to fail because of the crap he pulled in the draft that year, in hindsight his decision was justified as the Chargers are snakebitten as hell, especially in the playoffs, talk about a massive waste of talent). They made it back in 2005-06 regular season and after a promise they had, we expected them to compete for the title in 2006-07 season, but the series of injuries they had ruined it.

Tiki announcing his retirement in the middle of the season was a stupid move that caused a huge distraction but truth to be told, I really doubt he caused the players to get hurt. The Giants somehow made the playoffs despite finishing with a .500 record and lose in the first round (seeing this, they kinda overperformed as their best player, Strahan was out of the season and yet they managed to kept the game close).

2007-08 season is the year where I find fulfilling, why Just look up 18-1 and the Patriots together and you'll know, heh, heh, heh.

To sum up the next few years of disappointments before stopping at a really good year

2008-09 Plaxico shoots himself, screws up the Giants' offense and their momentum in the playoffs.

2009-10 Defense sucked, key players hurt, and Eli gets blamed for it.

2010-11 Defense falls apart down the stretch, Poozy unwittingly jinxed the Giants in that Eagles game, and receivers treating the ball thrown to them as a volleyball.

2011-12 Giants becomes the first team with a 9-7 record to win the Super Bowl, beating the Patriots in a rematch.

When looking back, it was a huge rollercoaster.

I hope the change of offensive system will help Eli Manning but the pass protection will ahve to be the main priority as no system will help with the QB has no time to throw."

I know that you played Yu-Gi-Oh! In the past. Tell me when you started (and possibly stopped) playing. What kind of deck did you have? Which other trading card games did you play?

Idiot-Finder:

"Somewhere around 2002 or 2003.

I thought it was stupid at first, I mean a show about card games The card game itself turns out to be fun although it was mainly my brother who plays it, just that I couldn't bring myself to admit that I liked it so he's the only one in my family knew.

We did eventually like the show and became more interested after hearing about the original season aka Season 0. I didn't have an official deck for myself, it's basically made up of random cards from my brother's collection so basically it's more or less a custom deck.

We never serious dueled so basically we just mess around to pass the time. I did start collecting card myself later on and as time goes by, I more in favor of collecting OCG cards. TCG cards are generally censored and that time, the holofoil effects are barely seen while the OCG happens to be much shinier.

There are those promotional packs known as Premium Packs and that time they're only available in OCG. Being that they're not exactly easy to find in the U.S., we're lucky enough to find a couple.

That ranges from volume 4 to 6.

The fourth volume is pretty much out of print as far as I know but outside of that, my brother generally has a much better luck in finding a rare card in OCG packs. You can say that's the one advantage that TCG packs have, at least you're guaranteed a rare card in a pack while in the case of OCG, when it's rare, they meant it.

I think he's still collecting card now and then as some of them came out in 2011, overall he goes for both while I go for OCG.

I was lucky enough to stumble into PP volume 4 when I was purchasing another pack and it caught my eye. I remember it's seven dollars but it has six ultra rare cards, including the Red Dark Magician.

As of now I stopped collecting the cards, only because after purchasing that OCG anniversity Dark Magician Girl, I actually felt satisfied and no longer want to acquire another cards. I will resume collecting one day but right now, I don't feel the need.

That card is in my drawer.

When it comes to other card games I played, there's Uno!

With that said, I liked the early manga volumes of Yu-Gi-Oh! better than the ones it became famous for, too bad they never receive a proper adaptation.

Season 0 wasn't that good aside from the fact that Yugi and Atem were essentially voiced by Sailor Uranus. Death T arc would have been an epic story arc for the anime series...in fact, Kaiba has a much better reason for tearing Yugi's grandpa's BEWD in half and why the old man was severely injuried from playing a card game.

To think that mind crush was supposed to be the last time we see Kaiba and that the card game itself was originally the in universe of Magic the Gathering which the author has a hard on for."

You are a Pokémon fan. Which is your favourite Pokémon and why is it Charizard? Which games of the series do you like the most?

Idiot-Finder:

"Charizard is actually my favorite out of the starting Pokemon in its final form. The reason is that of the three, Charizard resembles a dragon and looks much cooler than Blastoise (though still badass) and Venusaur. With that said, my favorite generation series is generally the second (Gold, Silver, and Crystal) as it opens the door for the later games to come, not to mention you get to do much more after the fun wears out in the first generation (with Missingno. being the only reason to keep on playing Red and Blue).

The anime series on the other hand, I no longer like the series seeing that the writers will insist on lowering Ash's IQ and have him lose in every important match since Orange League. I mean the guy with a roster of legendaries coming out of nowhere to win the whole damn thing Really Because of this bullcrap, I even wrote a two-shot fanfiction about it and mainly it's the second chapter that hits it.

Also, I finally caught a shiny Pokemon last fall, you have no diea how much it meant to me. I'll still never forgive that shiny Lairon for running out on me."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Idiot-Finder:

"I have tons of secrets and many of them I would rather keep to myself. But there are few I wouldn't mind sharing and one particular may have led to one thing after another, well that's what my parents told me.

They said that I was supposed to be born a day earlier but there was a problem. When it comes to a problem that would occur at birth, a C-section was supposed to be performed. That operation never happened because for an unexplained reason, there was a delay so with that, the whole thing was put on hold until a day later when I finally came out, all naturally.

In a way I was lucky, but at the same time, sometimes I wonder if I used up most of my luck that day considering the horrible luck I have for much of my life like the scene in that movie where things seems to go your way until it smacks you right in the face in the end.

To be fair, Stephen Chow's character had it coming however.

Not sure if that count as a post-birth since it's just one day but yeah.

Then there's the fact that preschool is in fact the peak of my school life...I know. Truth is I was starting to come around toward the end of first grade and started out well at the second when for an unexplicit reaso, they had me skipped the grade to third and things went downhill from there.

They did it only because I happened to be a bit older than most of the kids. Then you know the story, homework troubles, personal life turns into a personal hell throughout 1995 (my darkest days) with a back scratcher repeatedly making several contacts with my ass nearly every single day, and being forced to stay up all night to finish my homework that I could barely even understand (pretty ironic considering that I'm a night owl since 2002 and even pulled an all nighter to finish a project in few occasions).

I mean, how can I understand division that time I still think bumping me up to third grade is one of the worst things ever happened to me as they have done so with a wrong reason.

It was a tough time and around that same year I was enrolled to Kumon. To sum it up, for first couple of years I was behind on reading, even got stuck in A level because I was goofing off but in the end, my math skills deteriorated after H level while I was able to complete Reading, amazing isn't it I was ahead on Math but turns out finishing G level was the beginning of the end for me, partly due to my demotion to special ed at school itself because during 4th and 5th grade, I would make jokes with my social worker about how I would kill my brother and feed his body to the cannibals. Then there's the time when I drew a picture of a character from Old Master Q comic holding a gun shooting a small figure that she figured to be my brother.

I thought it was funny and didn't know that she thinks I was serious.

You can guess what happens after that.

Also I had trouble fitting in at school and was an even bigger crybaby than Leviathan from Umineko. I actually do have few friends but ever since I got expelled from school, I lost contact with them since that time. I was send to Orchard School where I enjoyed it for the first three years because it was fun, I mean the special ed. school works are easy and there's a reason why...it's made for retards.

In the fourth year, let's just say it sucked but still better than 1995. I won't get into that much details but in all fairness, I didn't exactly help myself either (calling names and avoiding a school scrappy, pretty messed up).

Still doesn't change the fact that some of the staff members of the school can be considered as useless adults.

I would remain in retarded education until after high school.

Funny thing is that when I enter high school, because of the kind of education I received at Orchard School, they had to left me back so I end up retaking 9th grade.

In a way things did return to normal...just some of it anyway.

Also, my account is running on a dead e-mail address. The reason is that back then AOL has a tendency to disconnect dozen of times a day so that can be really frustrating. After switching back to MSN for a brief period, my family finally decided to go back to AOL once again (sounds like what Al Davis did in the 1980s and the early 1990s) and did so with another e-mail address.

The old e-mail address was cancelled so basically, my account is a zombie account.

Still alive and kicking at the same time."

Idiot-Finder:

"What one can expect from me is that I'll probably fight against Jose Mendoza and go through 15 rounds. In the end I will lose and die from exhaustion with a smile on my face while Jose Mendoza, the defending champion will be forced to retire after the damage he took from by hits caused him to age 40 years."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Scarface.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join?

Scarface:

"I originally found Newgrounds back when it had the old design when I was around the age of 6 or 7 (early bloomer, I know) and knew it as a place where I could find violent movies and games, as well as other…sexual content (despite having no idea what to do with it at the time). I used the site occasionally, alongside other sites, such as Addictinggames, Miniclip, Flash Player (later renamed UGO Player), Armorgames (Previously named GamesofGondor), Stick Page, and a few others, as a way to have fun and entertain myself. I didn’t get really into the site back then, though, and didn’t sign up or anything. It was just a from-time-to-time-visiting kind of thing.

That was back when all of those sites had distinct looks and designs, though. Now, all of them look more or less the same (Stick Page is still sort of its own thing, to be fair), and are generally formatted in a way that would appeal to a much younger audience, most of them with little to no content resembling anything violent or inappropriate. I began to see the same shit on all of the sites, and none of them really had their own personality. Except Newgrounds. In 2008 when I was 13, I rediscovered the site, and remembered how much I had enjoyed it. I took a look around was so pleased with what I saw that I decided to make an account."

Why did you choose the username xXShortEmoKidXx and why did you change it to Scarface?

Scarface:

"My original name, xXShortEmoKidXx, was chosen because at the time I joined Newgrounds, I was in eighth grade; still in that awkward middle-school-emo phase that most teenagers seem to go through. The X's were just sort of a part of that whole thing, and proclaiming my emo-ness, and also I was short, so I just sort of threw it all together.

Eventually, having grown out of the emo phase, I started to really resent the name because of the negative perception it immediately gave anyone who didn’t know me well, so I wanted a name change. The discussion started actually, when I was talking to the user Boss, whose name I thought was very cool. I mentioned admiring his username and wishing I had picked a different one. When he suggested PMing an admin for a name change, I thought about what I would want it to be, and eventually settled on Scarface, one of my favorite movies. At times I wish I had come up with something more original or personal, but in general, I’m satisfied with the name change."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Scarface:

"I don’t think that my time here has very much changed the way I act in real life, but getting older and more mature has affected the way I act on here. I still dick around and have fun, of course, because what’s the point if not that, you know? But I’m not as obnoxious, easily agitated, prone to flame wars, and I’d say overall I’ve started putting a lot more thought into my posts."

Scarface:

"Wegra is a really cool guy, I talk to him from time to time on Facebook. He’s always fun to joke around with or talk with for a while. Luis and I used to talk a lot as well, a few years ago, and he was a great friend to me when I needed one. The user ilikeblamingcrap and I had a close relationship in ’09 and ’10 when spam crews were a huge problem, and we needed organized groups of people fighting them (not that we really did a whole lot, but it meant a lot to both of us and the others we worked alongside with). Other than that, there’s not really anyone who’s really deeply affected me, but I’ve talked with and very much enjoyed getting to know most of the forum regulars, so I’d say to a small extent most of the people posting have affected me in some small positive way.

For the hell of it, because these users are really cool in general and deserve it, I’m giving shout-outs to tox, saqwert, kazumazkan, Piggler, Slint, Gagsy, Addict, Thor and NekoMika. They’re all memorable parts of the forum, each having done something in one small way or another to make my stay here more enjoyable, mostly by making the forums a fun environment. There are countless others, though, without whom my stay on this site would not have been as good as it has been. I just think I should try to recognize those people."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Scarface:

"A few years ago, I probably would’ve had a list of people lol. Maybe it’s just maturity, but I’ve stopped caring about a lot of things in the past, and now I’d say that I don’t have anything close to an enemy on the site. There are a few on the forums that I'm not very fond of, but they don’t really bother me or anything, so it’s not a huge deal. I’m usually able to at least get along with everyone."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Scarface:

"I love going on the forums. I post for my first month or so here, but once I started, I really took a liking to it and began posting regularly. I occasionally browse politics or clubs/crews forums looking for something interesting, even more rarely Where is/How to? Forum, but most often I stick to the General forum, because it just seems the most relaxed, and it’s the easiest way to have fun and get to know people.

If I had to pick another Forumer that hasn’t already been interviewed, I’d wager kazumazkan or Thor would have some interesting answers."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Scarface:

"I think for the most part, they do. There are cases here and there where I wonder why something is stopped so soon, or allowed to happen for so long, but for the most part I think that the forum moderators let the users have their fun without letting it get too out of hand.

I don't know too much about the audio/portal/review/icon/genre moderators, so I'm sorry for not complimenting them for their work, but I suppose I'll at least say that I never really notice much that gets by them."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Scarface:

"It used to be one of my greatest aspirations (as far as Newgrounds is concerned) to be a forum moderator, but for the past few years, that desire has started to fade. I don't know why, but I just sort of lost the want to have that kind of power. Now, I feel as though I could do a pretty good job at it, but I like to mess around too much on the forums, so I probably wouldn't take the job seriously enough.

In all honesty, though, while I don't pursue the position anymore, I'd accept it were it offered, just as a chance to do something and help out where it's needed. I enjoy spending time on the forums, but sometimes when people act childishly it makes it difficult for others to enjoy their time there, so if there were a way to keep it enjoyable for everyone, I’d be all in. It’d actually be pretty fun, despite the minor drawbacks."

The last redesign happened 2012. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Scarface:

"I only vaguely remember the pre-2007 design, but it looked pretty good and I enjoyed it. I really liked the 2007-2012 design, as that's the design I familiarized myself with when I first joined the site and got really into it. Perhaps nostalgia keeps me from liking the 2012 design as much, but I just sort of miss the 2007 design. Oh well, the next time there’s a design, I’ll probably start to miss this design, so it’s most likely just nostalgia."

Back in 2010 you released 3 games on Newgrounds. Did you since then work on other games? If so, do you plan to release them on Newgrounds in the future?

Scarface:

"I played a very minor role in all of those games. My name was essentially slapped on there because I offered some opinions and ideas, and I knew the people making them. I've some minor experience with Pivot animation (stick figures...not exactly high quality, either), but none whatsoever with flash, so it's highly unlikely I'll ever submit and movies or games to Newgrounds ever again."

It's a bold guess but I am sure you like the movie Scarface. Tell my readers what you like about this movie.

Scarface:

"It's certainly an over the top movie, but if you can restrain yourself from taking it too seriously, it's incredibly fun. It’s action packed, dramatic, stylistic, funny at times, and entertaining as hell. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes movies and gangsters."

You are a member of the Newgrounds Gay/bisexual Users Club. When did you come out to your family and friends? Were they supportive or not? Did you experience negative feedback due to your sexual orientation?

Scarface:

"When I came out as bisexual, I found support from my friends and family, and now I’m comfortable enough to not hide my sexuality from anyone at all, and talk about it openly. It’s indescribably rewarding, as I’m now able to relax without fear of hiding it, as well as possibly find partners of the same sex. Most people I know are, if anything, curious about it, which I’m 100% fine with.

I found overwhelming support from the Newgrounds community as well, which I’m glad for. I think the Gay/bisexual Users Club is a fantastic one and I’m glad it’s there whenever LGBT users need it. In general, the user base seems to be full of people who are pretty liberal-minded when it comes to sexuality, so it’s never been an issue."

You are the drummer of the band Dead Ringers. When did your band start making music and what kind of music do you play?

Scarface:

"I was in my Freshman year of high school three years ago when I saw a Facebook post from someone I knew somewhat well, though had never really talked to, saying that he needed a drummer for his band. At the time I was drifting apart from my older friends, with whom I was beginning to differ greatly in personal interests, and I had pretty much nothing else going on for me, so I figured "Hell with it, why not." At the time I had a drum set and had taken lessons, but had never played in a band before.

At first, we weren’t that great, and arguably we still aren’t that great, but we’ve improved massively. We play alternative rock, and have been likened to the sound of the Foo Fighters, a large musical inspiration for all of us. We’ve already recorded a seven song EP (which, if I may whore my product out here, I’ve uploaded to Newgrounds via the Audio Portal), and are currently in the process of recording an 11 song LP. Playing in a band has been by far the most fun experience of my life, and I hope to continue making music for a long time."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Scarface:

"Some fun facts about me:

I work at my high school’s radio station and I hope to continue doing work with Telecommunications in the future (for anyone at Ball State, that’s where I’m headed).

Some of my favorite bands (many of which influence my writing style musically) are The Foo Fighters, The Damned, Social Distortion, At the Drive In, The Adicts, The Misfits, Nirvana and Rancid.

I’m frequently in short film projects that my friends do for school (though I’m not in any film or theater related activities myself) because I’m apparently pretty good at acting (or so I’ve been told).

Though it’s certainly not the only way I enjoy making love, I'm quite fond of BSDM on occasion (a cookie for anyone who can guess my preferred role in said activity)."

What can we expect from you in the future, Scarface?

Scarface:

"I will probably upload a few of the songs from my band’s LP, if not all of them, when mixing is finished. I should probably get back to blamming and protecting regularly, as it’s been too long since I actively served the site in keeping the portal in high quality. Aside from that, I’ll just stay on the forum posting things ranging from insightful to stupid depending on my mood. Though I'll be busy in the future with college, a job and hopefully a family someday, I’ll probably hang around on Newgrounds forever.

For as long as I have time to waste, I’ll see you in the forums."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Powerage.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join?

Powerage:

"I first heard about Newgrounds in the beginning of my senior year of high school, around September 2004. My friend Adam (who doesn’t have an account here) and I were in Advanced Composition class (basically an entire course on learning how to do research papers) and we were kinda sorta goofing off on a site called Albino Blacksheep while we were supposed to gather sources/read stuff on how to properly cite sources for our research papers or some stuff like that, when he tells me about this site called Newgrounds and how it’s even better than Albino Blacksheep. I checked it out and I thought the site was pretty neat. I didn’t visit Newgrounds all that much for the next year or so mainly due to the fact that I only had dial-up at home back then. Things changed in August 2005 when I finally started college, got my own laptop, and my parents decided to upgrade to high-speed internet, so I started to go on Newgrounds more and more. I decided that I wanted some of that voting power so I created an account, and I’ve been here off/on ever since."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Why did you choose the username some_random_dude and why did you change it to Powerage?

Powerage:

"I put zero thought into creating my first username, I don’t remember why I chose it; I just thought it sounded good at the time. A couple of months later, I was already tired of that username and thought it was time for a change. I then had the idea to try “Powerage” (as it was my favorite album at the time) to see if it was available, it was, so I stuck with it ever since."

Powerage:

"I’ve changed a lot in the past eight years, both here and in real life.

I think my first posts were crap, and every time I happen across them (whether it’s because I decide to go through my old posts, or somebody oblivious bumps an ancient thread) I cringe a little. I know of some BBS users who have decided to have all of their BBS posts deleted because of this, though I won’t do this because I like to remind myself how much I’ve changed.

I also used to be in to stats on this site, always making sure to deposit my experience points every single day, did a bit of b/p’ing here and there, and then got a deity whistle shortly after the admins fixed the whistle system back in 2006, then out of boredom, I started whistling (and depositing EXP) on my alt, Egarewop, finally achieving the deity whistle on that account shortly after the 2007 redesign. Jeez, I had a lot of time on my hands. Nowadays, I don’t bother with Newgrounds stats anymore. The only thing I do here (besides watch the occasional flash) is posting in the forums.

This place was kind of a gateway to the rest of the internet for me; from there I discovered ED and 4chan, which led to seeing what the rest of the internet had to offer, some of it great, most of it terrible. I recently came to the realization that I’ll always have a special place in my heart for this place, as while I no longer go to ED and 4chan (haven’t been in more than a year), it’s this place that I still keep coming back to. I guess I’ll always be around here in some form, even if my activity level just consists of just logging in to watch a silly flash for the thousandth time.

In real life, I’ve changed immensely. Back when I first signed up, I was just 18 going on 19, in my first semester at Indiana State University, and I hadn’t even decided what I was going to do with my life. I also had a crippling fear of public speaking, I wasn’t terribly confident in myself, and looking back I think I was an annoying asshole as well. Now, I’ve since graduated from college, I'm in a job that’s actually in the field I got my degree in (though not full-time as of right now) that I love, got over that fear of public speaking, I’m generally a hell of a lot more confident now than I was back then, and I've matured quite a lot in the past 8 years as well. I’m living the best years of my life right now, and I feel that it’s only going to get better from here."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Powerage:

"Of course! Posters like Light, Entice, Natick, Idiot-Finder, Sensationalism, Slint, Dr-Worm, 24901miles and ZeroAsALimit (I've probably left a couple out) are all wonderful users that make coming to this BBS worthwhile. The forums would be a lot worse without them."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Powerage:

"You know what? Enemy is kind of a strong word here, but there have always been users here who are jerks, dumbasses, or just plain terrible people. I do get annoyed by things like Wriggle’s constant whining about how hard it is to be a white heterosexual male or TheKlown’s amazing ability to straight up lie about objective, observable reality, and to be completely oblivious about the world around him. There’s others as well that I think are annoying, but I won’t bother naming them here."

Powerage:

"The forums aren’t that bad, to be honest. Sure, they’re nearly dead compared with a few years ago, but I think that the overall atmosphere of the forums has improved. It’s a lot more laid back now, there are fewer whiny assholes (they still exist though), the mods are less strict, and it’s just a more pleasant place than it was back in 2008-09. As far as actually posting goes, I usually stick to the General forum, though I do lurk the other forums from time to time. I think it would be interesting to see 24901miles, Idiot-Finder, and Dr-Worm get interviewed. Hell, you ought to interview Armissea; I’ve always wanted to know what the hell goes on in his head."

Powerage:

"They do a pretty good job of keeping this forum in order, I guess. There’s a couple mods that I really don’t care for, but the reasons why don’t have anything to do with any moderating they’ve done. Other than that, I don’t really have any issues with the mods. I like that they’re a lot more lax than they used to be."

Powerage:

"Hell no. I come here to unwind and make the occasional attempt at making a coherent post. I like being under the radar, and I like to just come and go from the forums as I please, I’d rather not have to put up with the bullshit that comes with being a moderator of a BBS. If I were offered the job for moderator, I would decline, and if I were somehow made a mod, I would resign instantly. Plus, I’ve got a lot of stuff going on IRL right now, so I don’t really have the time to moderate an internet forum."

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

Powerage:

"Probably one of the most notable things I remember about Newgrounds before the 2007 redesign was just how messed up the level system was. For those readers that weren’t around, it used to be that there were only 30 levels, and the requirements for levels 10-30 changed every time the person with the most Experience points (who was deemed Level 30, at the time it was Pimp) deposited, and Pimp usually deposited every single day. When 2007 rolled around, it was calculated that it would take around 129 years to reach just level 29, let alone six months to just reach level 10. It was getting quite ridiculous at that point, so when that redesign went live, I thought it was amazing. There were 30 new levels, new auras, the icons looked cool, we had userpages now, and the level requirements were now static. I thought it was amazing! The site looked so much better after that redesign."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The last redesign happened 2012. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Powerage:

"The overall look of the layout was great, I liked the new emoticons on the BBS, and having the custom user icons was nice. I don’t really care for the new auras or the new level icons; this was part of the reason why I stopped depositing."

You describe yourself with a quote from a song from the band M83. When did you start listening to them and what are your favourite songs? Which other bands do you like the most?

Powerage:

"Ah yes, the quote. I first heard of M83 a couple of years ago, the song “Midnight City” was played pretty heavily on the local Alternative Rock station, I thought the song was really cool, so I checked out the rest of the album and bought it on iTunes. The very last song on that album “Outro” is my favorite song from that album; it really pumps me up and makes me feel like I can do just about anything. My other favorite songs from that album were “Wait” and “Splendor.” I know they’ve released other albums, I haven’t had the chance to listen to them yet. I’m sure they’re good as well.

My favorite band at the moment though would be The American Analog Set, an excellent lo-fi/indie rock band from Austin, Texas. They’ve been sort-of on hiatus since 2006, which kinda disappoints me because then I won’t be able to see them live, though live performances do exist on youtube.

There are a lot of other artists I like as well, like British Sea Power, The Smiths (and some of Morrissey’s solo work), The Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Liebe Hart, The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, The Dead Kennedys, Minutemen, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and The Byrds just to name a few, I’ve got 210 different artists and 412 albums spanning many different genres of music dating back from the 1920s to the present day.

Speaking of the present day, I hear people complaining all the time about how there is “no good music anymore” and I think that is bullshit. In this thread Piggler made an excellent point that I completely agree with, that the good old days only seem good because the shitty bands fade into obscurity. Even today, people are making great music, they just need to know where to look!"

Back in 2006, you had a collection of over 600 Matchbox and Hotwheels cars. Do you still have them or even got more now? What were/are your favourite cars from that collection?

Powerage:

"Except for a scattered few that are probably in a closet somewhere, I no longer have them. I’ve donated the vast majority of them to Goodwill a year or so after that. At that point, I was pretty busy with college and since I hadn’t played with them in a really long time I thought that somebody out there would have as much fun as I did with them. I’m not sure I can pick a favorite from that collection, I had a lot of pretty sweet cars, from the usual supercars, to average sedans, to big trucks, etc."

You are a fan of the GTA series.Which one is your favourite title of the series and what changes would you like to see in upcoming titles?

Powerage:

"I’d say San Andreas, seeing as that is the only GTA game that I’ve actually finished. I’ve played the hell out of that game. I really liked not drowning upon hitting water as opposed to the earlier games, haha. I also really liked how there were a greater variety of environments (like mountains, desert, farmland, small towns) in San Andreas as opposed to just being stuck in a strictly urban environment, and was very glad to see that was the case with GTA 5. I have not had a chance to play GTA 5 yet, but I think it looks amazing.

As far as changes go, perhaps they could experiment with storylines. I think one set in the 1920’s, during the height of the prohibition era, would be very interesting, I’d really like to see what kind of story (not to mention the soundtrack) they could come up with that. I’d also like to see what they could do with depicting places other than the United States during gameplay. It wouldn’t be the first time that Rockstar made a GTA game that was set outside the US (GTA London 1969). Perhaps they could make missions that involve going to Mexico, or they could set it somewhere in Asia, Africa, or South America. I think, given those parameters, they could come up with something awesome."

The Big Lebowski is one of your favourite movies. Tell my readers what the movie is about and why you like it.

Powerage:

"Okay, there are two men named Jeffrey Lebowski. One is a lazy, pot smoking, hippie who calls himself "The Dude". The other is a self-made, handicapped, multimillionaire war veteran who lives in a huge mansion. Their paths cross when the millionaire's trophy wife owes money to a pornographer. The thugs hired by this man confront The Dude because he has the same name, attack him and one of them pees on his rug. The Dude then goes to the millionaire’s house to demand compensation for his soiled rug, and the plot takes off from there.

This movie is (for me) one of those movies where you can watch it a million times and never get tired of it. My absolute favorite thing about this movie is the assortment of characters that seem to come from completely different movies (even including the Narrator!), and yet, it works out so brilliantly. This is a film that gets better with repeat views, and I think that everyone who hasn't seen it should definitely go watch it."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Powerage:

"Well, this isn’t exactly a secret, since I had a conversation with Light about this in the comments section of my most recent news post (but then again, it is, since I rarely mention this in the forums), is that my job IRL is a substitute teacher, and I’m currently working on getting a full-time job teaching Math to HighSchoolers. I really like my job, the students like me, I get along very well with the rest of the staff (it helps that one of the high schools I work at is the school I graduated from), and I gain experience in classroom management, which will really help me later on. Thing is though, my current job is only part-time, and I really want to get a full-time job teaching in the area I’m licensed in. I’m also looking to move out of town, as the job situation in my area isn’t that great at the moment. I’m licensed to teach in Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin (I’d really like to relocate to Milwaukee, but there are places within those three states that will do), so I could be coming to a school near you!"

What can we expect from you in the future, Powerage?

Powerage:

"Don’t expect too much from me. I’ll probably hang out here a little while longer, lurking in the shadows, posting occasionally, just trying to have a bit of fun. I'll probably be around even less once I get a full-time job, which I hope happens soon."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Fluffington.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Sonic_Frank and why did you change it to Frank-The-Hedgehog and later to Fluffington?

Fluffington:

"Well before I start: I would like to state that I will be honest here in this interview, painfully so.

"So lets begin, shall we? ...My my, it's been so long ago, but I still recall quite clearly that I first found Newgrounds when I was but eleven years old, I believe I found it when I stumbled upon a link to Pico's School, and my young mind thought all the blood, violence and swear words were nothing short of pure, fucking, bad-ass. I lurked around for a period of time and I signed up when I was twelve years old. I know what you're thinking! And yes, I was quite a bad little boy, wasn't I? *chuckles*

And as for my username(s)? It probably isn't hard to figure out. Like a lot of kids my age back then, I was a fan of Sonic The Hedgehog. Which would explain my first two user names. Eventually, as the years grew and my mind matured, I felt myself growing out of my Sonic phase and that I did not really like the name 'Frank'. I wanted a cute name instead, a cute name with a certain amount of class. And so when I found out that the name 'Fluffington' wasn't taken, I asked Wade Fulp to change it for me, and he was awesome enough to do it. <3"

Fluffington:

"Haha, with all due respect, considering that it has been around.. 7 years since I signed up? I find it almost amusing the question of *if* I think I had changed over the course of that timeline, considering that most, if not all of my atoms and molecules has been replaced through the span of those years, I wonder if I can even be considered the same person as my twelve year old self.

As a user and a person, I think I've grown up quite a bit. I've learned English, gotten better at it, and also learned a lot about life, the world, religion, as well as myself over the years, namely my sexuality and gender identity. I now see myself as female and have made some quite (obvious) changes physically."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Fluffington:

"I like just about everyone if they are nice enough, but I really can't say whom I like at the moment, since it has been so long since I returned here on Newgrounds."

Fluffington:

"I find supergandhi64 as an insufferable individual with a user name just as bad as he is. In short, my opinion on him could be summed up in one recent post I made addressing to him:

"You could be posting the way you are posting just to troll the hell out of people, but GOD it makes me angry and hate you for it.

Really, do you really think such highly of yourself that you feel as if every single post you make is some brilliant, ground breaking quote that will go down in history books? Hey, maybe they'll become the quote that starts an episode of Criminal Minds! Are you that much of an egotist? Because judging from your grammar, purposefully atrocious or not, I can already guess that whatever insight you can offer would most definitely not be of any intelligence or value.

So please, for your own sake, stop."

And that about sums it up, NG's forum quality would be vastly improved if he were perma-banned for trolling and shitposting.

Also Slint seems like ether a bad troll or just a complete douche, I can't tell. I also dislike anyone who sucks off those people just for their post count."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Fluffington:

"The forum is alright. It seems much less inactive than it was years ago, but I might've been spoiled by other more active boards and forums. I usually just use General since it is the most active one.

As for which user I'd like to see interviewed? I doubt it is possible, since she hasn't been active for over a year now, but Seriana."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Fluffington:

"The mods this time around seem much more lax than they were years ago. On one point it is good, since it allows more room for more freedom of discussion but on the other point it means more shitposters like supergandhi64."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Fluffington:

"I would like to become a moderator, I think I'd do a great job at it, and shitposting would not be tolerated at all. The forum quality would improve, I believe."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign

Fluffington:

"The site layout was a lot darker then, but it was fun, it was perfect and simple for a kid like myself back then. Now I can see complaints about it being too bright and it being hard to find what you need sometimes."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The last redesign happened 2012. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Fluffington:

"In my opinion? I did not like it. I think that it has became harder to find stuff in the flash portal, I did not like the fact that they removed the banners in userpages, I hated the new level icons, and I really hate that we still don't have a forum post edit button when 99% of other online forums has this and they haven't gone down in flames. All those reasons above were main contributing factors as to why I became inactive.

But one thing I did like was that you can now have user icons in the forums, and that is really lovely."

In 2009, you were in a mental hospital for 3 months. Please talk about this experience.

Fluffington:

"The truth of that matter was that the story was greatly exaggerated. The reality is actually a lot less interesting and funny. I was sent to the mental hospital quite often see a shrink a period of my life, yes, but I was never really locked there, And it wasn't for some hilarious reason like my mom finding out I was a furry, instead it was for my eating disorder and gender identity issues. I did meet some interesting kids there though. And it did help me learn where my root problem lied."

Back in 2010, you started a hormone replacement therapy. When did you find out that you feel more like a female? Were your family and friends supportive or not?

Fluffington:

"I've always more or less felt as if I were a girl on one level or another, even as a kid people were always confusing me as a girl, and when puberty hit I took it really hard, I fell into depression and eating disorders, I didn't like the way my body was changing, and I wanted to stunt my growth. I had no idea really why it was happening the way it was but I just knew I didn't like it.

Eventually I started talking with Seriana (Back then known as DragonsGrief, then SleepyFox, then Pounce, and now finally Seriana, at least before she disappeared). I discussed my problem with her, and she helped me find myself. In fact, she was the one that helped me by sending the first few batches of hormone medications for me when I needed them the most. At the risk of sounding melodramatic, she probably saved my life, I would've probably killed myself by now if not for her. And I'd be a liar if I said I didn't miss her to this day."

You have worked as substitute teacher in the past. Did you like this job? What was the weirdest experience that you had in that time?

Fluffington:

"It was pretty awful. I worked for my parents, and because of that, they paid me in slave wages. And my dad demanded way too much from me for the pennies he is paying me. The kicker here is that I was never given a set allowance. Nothing really weird happened then."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Some flashes for spam groups were co-created by you. Which of the spam groups do you like the most? Do you wish that the Clock Crew and Kitty Krew become more active again?

Fluffington:

"I wouldn't say it was co-created by me, I just had a small part of it. Kitty Krew was fun, they generated just so much hatred from the user base it was just funny because there were actually quite some quality content hidden in the piles of spam. In other words; They might've been spam, but they were our spam, and spam can be pretty tasty. It'd be pretty interesting to see what would happen if they became active again, how would the new generation of NGers see them."

You have been a member of The Elite Guard Barracks in the past. When and why did you join the group and what was your role?

Fluffington:

"I joined because to me back then NG was like a fun and free MMORPG, and more than that, it felt almost like a family. My role was probably the same as any other people in the EGB. I wanted good flash to make it in and bad ones to stay out. Almost ironic coming from a person who played a part of the Kitty Krew, but I felt that their flash had an amount of 'soul' in them, while the ones I helpped blam did not."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Fluffington:

"Hmmmm... Somewhere in the internet, there may or may not be pictures of me dressed up as a girl when I was just fourteen years old. And there might be one or two pictures from that set where it may be considered 'naughty'. They're not porn, but still. I lost those pictures a long time ago and I don't intend to look for them. I have no idea where they are, and Chansluts has been dead for a long time."

What can we expect from you in the future, Fluffington?

Fluffington:

"Probably more quirky and funny posts, as well as contributions to discussions and an occasional new topic or two. And if you follow my userpage or my blog (nsfw warning)? More pictures of myself.

But yeah, it's been fun doing this interview ^w^ "

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user JadeTheAssassin.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username JadeTheAssassin?

JadeTheAssassin:

"I believe I found Newgrounds back in the heyday of Assassin and Telebubby Funworld. I remember looking up anti-Spice Girls sites (I was a fan, I think I was bored), so that was pre-1999. I joined because I wanted to have voting power, and so I could participate on the BBS.

I chose JadeTheAssassin because it goes back to being a massive fan of wrestling. I wanted to have my wrestling persona be named Jade. Then that name carried over to a story I was writing in high school, where the character's name was Jade The Assassin in Italian. So there you go. :)"

JadeTheAssassin:

"As a user, I've definitely matured, maybe a bit, but not much. I knew I was one of those users that was blatantly trying to show off that I was a girl on the Internet. But yeah, definitely changed, became more jaded (haha). Real life? Not really."

JadeTheAssassin:

"Well, I do like that DevourerJay fellow a lot. I also do like a lot of users, but a good amount of them have kind of found real life outside of Newgrounds and haven't been seen here in years. There was Hycran (who I've been friends with since I started), ShadowXII (who I still talk to), Moloko, MoonCraft, sirevil, MattTheParanoidKat, and a whole bunch of others, like Sevkat, but I don't talk to him much anymore :(

Oh, also jmalouin7, he's a funky dude :) And I suppose Wegra, too.

They've affected me and influenced me over the years in a lot of ways."

JadeTheAssassin:

"I'm not even going to get into this. If people remember how things were while I was a mod, they'd remember stuff that happened. I don't have enemies, persay, more like people who I either banned and they got angry, or just people I never really got along with. What's done is done."

JadeTheAssassin:

"My opinion of the forums is that it's definitely the same and completely different from when I was last incredibly active. It's weird not being a mod, so I'm not constantly on the lookout for bannable/deletable content, but I also see a lot of threads I'd like to post in, but I don't exactly want to put the effort out.

I've always preferred General--it's always been my Internet home away from home. I can't ever leave it.

And um, I'm not sure about that. I don't know a lot of users around nowadays. Have you interviewed Sevkat yet?"

Asandir:

"Yup."

JadeTheAssassin:

"As of now, I'm not currently knowledgeable about how well/poorly the mods are doing right now. I would assume they're doing alright."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You have been a forum moderator in the past. Tell my readers what you liked and disliked the most about this experience.

JadeTheAssassin:

"My favourite part of being a mod was the lock messages. Mostly the funny ones that were somewhat inevitable. And just cleaning up the messes that would happen (like someone posting incredibly inappropriate content on General, or someone spamming the boards).

What I disliked most is having to argue with people about their bans or why I deleted/locked their topic. Or the hatemail that would come around."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

JadeTheAssassin:

"Gosh, I'm trying to remember what it was like prior to 2007. My memory's terrible. I liked the pop-up user pages, though. And the gif signatures. The redesign made things cleaner and the PM system works pretty well."

JadeTheAssassin:

"Honestly, I can't remember. I'm terrible at this, I'm sorry."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You have a son. Tell me how having a child changed your life and what you enjoy most about being a parent.

JadeTheAssassin:

"Besides having another person I have to start worrying about when he's older (not that I don't worry about him now), it hasn't really changed me. DevourerJay's daughter is my step-daughter, so I'm used to having a munchkin around.

The best thing about being a parent is when you can get your kid to laugh, and when he's incredibly well-behaved when we go out to places (and he was a dream when I flew with him)."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

In 2009, you participated in a welding course. What stuff did you make in that time and do you still have a creation from that course?

JadeTheAssassin:

"I made... some small boxes and a whole lot of rubbish to show techniques. I potentially could still have stuff around, but to be honest, I don't think we were allowed to take metal home. I don't know why. I still have my toolbox, umbrella boxstand, and shackles I made in a course that showed you different facets of trades."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I assume that you are a fan of anime since you own a Sailor Moon DVD collection with all episodes. What do you like about Sailor Moon and which other anime are your favourites of all time?

JadeTheAssassin:

"Sailor Moon was my first anime that I fell in love with. I loved the style, the story, the characters, and the romance of it. I have the final volume of the manga, and up to that point, I didn't know what had happened at the end of the manga/anime, so I was surprised. I sadly STILL haven't watched all the episodes--stupid filler episodes. It'd be so much shorter.

Other anime I like include Cowboy Bebop, Berserk, Chobits, Lupin the Third, Great Teacher Onizuka, and Afro Samurai."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Busy-body Business is your very own web comic series. When did you started drawing your own comics? Which comics do you like to read?

JadeTheAssassin:

"It was kind of just a one-off. I knew it wouldn't last long. I don't draw so much anymore.

As for comics I read, I mainly stick to a few webcomics: Something Positive, Questionable Content, Real Life Comics, Least I Could Do, and the occasional Explosm."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You are an avid player of music based games like Guitar Hero and Rockband. Which one of those do you like the most and which songs were the most challenging? What instruments can you play?

JadeTheAssassin:

"I liked Guitar Hero 3 for the gameplay and the fact that the songs weren't covers. Guitar Hero 1 and 2 I'll play for a few of the songs, but my fingers have trouble with the syncing. Rockband was good for the variety of instruments to play (prior to Band Hero), and had some good songs to it too. I haven't played in a long while (maybe a year or so, I get dizzy when I play these games and, besides the fact my hands cramp up, I tend to get really angry). I used to play some piano, but other than that, I don't play any instruments."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

JadeTheAssassin:

"Um, nothing that I feel comfortable telling or that is really worth mentioning, sorry to say. I'm an incredibly boring person, so I guess something exciting would be that I went to my first NHL game in early January. I'm Canadian, and I had to wait till I was 25 to see a NHL game, and I wasn't even in Canada."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Stretchysumo?

Stretchysumo:

"I discovered Newgrounds in 04 - 05 because knox was hosting his claymations here. I don't remember exactly why I joined, but the rest is history. I chose the username because I was trying to find a usable name for Runescape without numbers in it that wasn't taken. I guess I just stuck with it."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Stretchysumo:

"Oh definitely. I was like 11 when I joined, so I was an obnoxious ignorant shithead online and IRL. Now I actually put some thought into my posts, but I do still shitpost for shits n giggles."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Stretchysumo:

"The BBS is long past its prime, but I like the tight-knit community we have. I also browse 4chan's /v/ and various boards on 420chan. I can't really think of anyone I'd like to see interviewed."

"Eh I used to, but the mods don't do much anymore it seems. I don't really have an opinion on current mods. I liked Canas, Poozy was great just because he was such a dick, but nobody brought the tears like bigbadron."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Stretchysumo:

"I'd be fine with it, but it's not like my life goal. If I was any mod, it'd have to be a forum mod, I don't explore the rest of NG too often anymore."

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

Stretchysumo:

"Back before the redesign, NG had WAY more activity. It's a shadow of what it was then."

The last redesign happened 2012. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Stretchysumo:

"Fuck that redesign. I still hate it. I mostly use NG on my phone, and the redesign ruined mobile functionality. I couldn't see my pictures I was posting, text would constantly not be recognized (before html5 support my quotation marks would come out as a string of text after posting), the new levels are shit, I can't post blogs from my phone, and I just don't like the look.

Back in 2009 you submitted some songs to the audio portal. Did you work on more audio stuff since then and do you plan to submit more to the audio portal in the future?

Stretchysumo:

"I was just fucking around in Garageband. I'll probably never make music again cause I don't really enjoy music anymore. Everything just sounds like noise now."

Banjo Tooie is your favourite video game of all time. Tell my readers what you like about this game.

Stretchysumo:

"I don't know if it's really my favorite. If I posted that I was just thinking of one of my favorites. I'd be hard pressed to pick just one. A few of my favorites would be BK/BT, No One Lives Forever, Demon's Souls, and Rayman 2."

You played both Dark Souls and Demon Souls. Which situations/scenes impressed you the most? Which bosses were the most challenging for you (heavy bets on Smough and Ornstein and Seath the Scaless)? Lastly, are you looking forward to Darksouls 2?

Stretchysumo:

"Demon's Souls was by far maneaters and False King Allant. FKA purely because of his soulsuck shit. Dark Souls NG Fat and Slim was the hardest, but Seath wasn't bad. NG+ 4kings is the fucking worst though. I'm looking forward to DS2. I liked the beta, but they got some serious issues to work on (mainly hitboxes)."

You are a member of The Stoner's Club. What was your fist experience with drugs? What was the best and most scary drug experience that you had?

Stretchysumo:

"Not counting being doped up on prescriptions most of my life, I first smoked weed the day I got out of eighth grade. I didn't get that high, but I loved it. Scariest would be overdosing on pure synthetic cannabinoids (unkown chems). I was having a seizure, conciously, screaming, heartrate over 200, and watching everything melt as electric sounds of death filled my ears. I had to bike home 15 minutes after that. Got anxiety issues ans derealization after. Best would be either shrooms or the first time I robotripped. I never took many shrooms, but 2.5g was just pure euphoria. First time robotripping this white trash kid dumped a bunch of bottles of syrup into a half empty 2 liter. I chugged a lot, idk how much dxm I had taken, but it was enough to make me leave my body. We went offroading in my friends jeep through a forest in the dead of night. I was living life in third person. Pretty crazy for my first hallucinogenic experience."

I know that you have atleast one dog and one guinea pig (both posts are from 2011). What pets do you have and how important are they to you?

Stretchysumo:

"The guinea pigs are dead. I used to have 3 rats years ago and 2 cats that I was too young to recall much about. I currently have 2 dogs. They're very important to me, moreso than most people."
