Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Decimating.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username DecimatorOmega?

Decimating:

"I found Newgrounds around the same time I joined Bungie.net, which was back in November of 2008. I lurked around in terms of being here and played some of the flash games and watched the flash movies, I didn't make a Newgrounds account until 2012 because that's when I figured it's time I start posting in the forums after lurking them for awhile. I chose the name DecimatorOmega (it was supposed to have a space between Decimator and Omega but Newgrounds doesn't like spaces) because it's the name I go by on the internet, I use it for every account I make.

Here is the back story on why It's my name: So before I had Xbox Live I was with my friend trying to think of a good name for my profile, this is back when I was 15. I was originally going to call myself Demoralizor Omega, but then my friend stopped me and said, "dude why not just call yourself Decimator?" At first I thought going with just Decimator alone was ridiculous, but then I thought of the words Decimator and Omega together more and more, it sounded so well in my head that I decided to agree with his suggestion but at Omega at the end of it, and thus here I am, Decimator Omega."

Changed his name to Decimating shortly after the interview was made

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Decimating:

"I have overall changed as a person, as far as change goes on the internet, I don't use persona's. I tried that on Bungie and it didn't work out, I enjoy being myself more because it allows people to know just what kind of a person I really am. I never met anyone that says that being yourself is a bad idea, but even if someone were to say that to me I'd disagree with him or her, being yourself is the best thing you can ever do whether it's in real life or on the internet. I haven't changed over time ever since I signed up here, that could be because I'm still fairly new. Give me another 3 or 4 years and I'll probably give you a different answer by then."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Decimating:

"Oh yeah, there is a lot of people I like on here, one of them would be Piper, she's really good at what she does. I've heard a lot of other voice actors on here before but so far out of everyone, Piper would have to be one of the best and most unique ones on here. Another one of my favorites would be KatMaestro. He seems like a really cool dude and has some awesome stuff uploaded. His music is actually pretty good despise what other people might say about it. Pretty much everyone that's a fan of me I already like them, but if I had to include another favorite, it would be Ash because she's funny and actually has some interesting news posts. In terms of affecting me, well, they're all the reason why I keep logging on here. Why would I continue to log onto a website where I'm not welcome? I can't imagine anyone doing that honestly."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Decimating:

"If it wasn't for my self control and compassion for others, I'd consider all of humanity to be my enemy, but yes, I do have people that I don't like on here. I'd give out names but I wouldn't want more from them then I already get on the BBS. Let's just say that these people really irritate me and are possibly brain dead because no rational person would spend SO much time making fun of me just because I'm autistic or call me childish insults like sperglord or spergtard. Funny how the internet has a completely different vibe from the real world, if anyone were to do this in real life they would probably get punched square in the face, but on the internet everyone is not only behind a computer screen but tend to be more cruel if they choose to be because they can get away with insulting you, I try not to let it bother me as much though, despite what these people say to me."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Decimating:

"The Forums on here are better than Bungie's forums. If you've ever been to Bungie.net, you'll know that last year was the death of the Bungie.net everyone knew, because now that website is a mess. The forums on here however are actually traditional like how Bungie used to be except it's even more strict. I almost wanna say you really have no rights here but you probably do since the forum rules are quite simple and not long like a contract. As for what forum I prefer, that would be the most active one which is currently the General forum. Lastly, you can interview anyone you'd like. That's up to you."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Decimating:

"I think the moderators on Newgrounds are okay, except for Zachary. He really needs to decide when it's justifiable to ban somebody. As a former moderator and current admin of my own website, I would never ban someone for an honest mistake, I would just let them off with a warning. If a certain someone was harassing others or just posting links to shock sites that can wreck your computer, then I'd go for a ban. I want to say a lot of the moderators here are nice enough to just lock threads as a warning, but everyone had their own definition of what gets you banned and what doesn't it seems."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Decimating:

"Eh. I wouldn't mind if I did become one, I'm not someone that goes power hungry, not unless I'm an administrator, that would get me a bit power hungry, lol. XD

As for what kind of moderator I'd go for, probably a forum moderator since that is what I have been previously. I'm indifferent in terms of being a moderator or not really. If I get an offer to be one, sure, if not I'll continue to be a member on here."

You said that you grew up with the SNES. What was the first SNES game that you played and which ones are your favourites? What do you think about the ongoing trend to make modern retro games?

Decimating:

"Well I did say that I have a vague memory of playing the SNES, I think the first SNES game I played was Donkey Kong Country, at least it was one of the first. Even though I remember more of the PlayStation days, I do remember that I damaged my SNES controllers to a point where my brother had to use electrical tape just to make them work again. My favorite on the SNES would probably be one of the Mario games. Actually I'm glad that we have people making modern Retro games, I'm even trying to do that myself with the Unity engine. The most recent modern Retro game I've played is The Angry Video Game Nerd Adventurers. It's fun, but challenging."

Recently the new Steam OS has been revealed. Are you looking forward to it? Also, what operating systems did you personally use and which did you like the most?

Decimating:

"I am looking forward to Steam OS and I hope it's really good considering that I've had other Linux distros before. Hopefully Steam OS will be good if not better than Zorin OS. I grew up with Windows and have not only played around with 95 and 98 when I was younger, but I even wrecked them. There was no Control Alt Delete or task manager at the time so if I wrecked something, it would require restarting the entire computer. Heck there was even a point where I destroyed the entire operating system making it unbootable, let's just say with that I really pissed my brother off, but at the same time I learned what works and what doesn't. Once I got my own machine I have installed and uninstalled many different versions of Windows, including 2000, XP, Vista, 7 and the Consumer Preview of 8 (which sucked, glad I installed that on a virtual machine.) On my current gaming machine, I switched to Zorin before but I had to switch back to Windows 7 because there are programs that I need for school that Linux can't support, even with WINE.

So yeah, Steam OS may be my next Operating System for this computer. I'd get Mac OS X but that requires a lot of torrenting, and I still refuse to get Windows 8.1 for free despite the email I got from the Microsoft Academic Alliance Program telling me that I'm eligible for it since I got Windows 7 Professional for free on my older machine at one point."

So far you have submitted 2 short audio submissions to Newgrounds. Is making music something that you plan to do more in the future? When did you start listening to your favourite band Fear Factory, what do you like about them and did you ever visit one of their concerts?

Decimating:

"I originally wanted to be a musician when I was younger, but I lost interest and decided to keep it as a hobby. My current major is game development. The 2 audio submissions I currently have were made in Garage Band on my iTouch and iPhone, one was for my game HouseTrap for people to download it's main menu music, and the other one was just something I recorded when I was depressed, figuring I'd express that sadness depression. I've started listening to Fear Factory back in 2007 when I first heard of them on an internet radio station. The song "Freedom or Fire" got me hooked and I started looking up the rest of their albums on YouTube and became a fan since them. I like the unique sound they've had over the years and a lot of the riffs that Dino plays and the haunting vocals that Burton sings. I actually went out and bought they're latest album The Industrialist last year, it was worth the purchase. I have yet to see them live but I have yet to see any metal band live, so I'll see if I can eventually check out Fear Factory live, that is when they start their next tour."

You said that cats are your favourite pets. Please share one of your favourite moments that you had with your cat. Also tell me what you like about cats and how pets in general influence your daily life.

Decimating:

"Cats are really interesting animals, they can climb and jump to some really high places and if they fall down a good 15 feet, they can land it perfectly and not injure themselves. My favorite moment with my cat was when he used to chase me around when we were both young. I grew up with him since he was like my little brother, he was a part of the family when I was 10. Recently on October 20th, we had to put him down because the poor guy was suffering. I still miss him to this day.

Animals in general are better than most people in this world really. I'm even more sad when a pet is gone than a person oddly enough. I guess it really depends on the person or animal."

In one of your posts you talked about near death experiences that you endured. Can you talk in more detail about the one that left the most impact on you? Did those experiences change your perception of life?

Decimating:

"Well from the most recent near death experience I had (which was last year) got me thinking that I should enjoy life more and not complain about it. Life overall isn't that great but at the same time I'm just glad I'm still around. If that idiot had run me over at the parking lot when I was walking on the sidewalk, I probably wouldn't be here right now. It was close to the point where my hands where on the hood of his car. He didn't even apologize, he just drove off. What a jerk."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Decimating:

"Sorry, I like to keep my secrets safe, but I will tell you this, I haven't been employed for nearly 2 years and I still live with my folks. All that will change eventually, but as of right now I'm in a situation where money is tight and finding a job is even harder than ever. I bet that's something that no one knew about me on here."

What can we expect from you in the future, Decimating?

Decimating: "Well as soon as Newgrounds starts supporting the upload of Unity files on here, expect me to port some of my Unity projects on Newgrounds, hopefully they will get passed the under judgement stage and make it through, I'd hate to see them get permanently deleted, but if that happens, oh well."

Interview with Decimating

Posted by Asandir - November 25th, 2013

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Tribal.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Tribalfusion-X and why did you change it to Tribal?

Tribal:

"Interesting that you followed up on that. I chose the name tribalfusion_X originally because my first actual username was, believe it or not, "wr_runescape_clan". I shit you not. I was 13 and those were the days. The reason I changed is because I ended up feeling very douchebaggy about that alias and wanted to change it to something cooler. I thought about it for some days but couldn't come up with anything that read or sounded cool enough. Then, one day, as I loaded a Newgrounds page in the early days, I looked at the status bar (now often called add-on bar) in my browser and saw the name of the ad network Newgrounds was receiving its ads from at the time. "tribalfusion.ad.network". I thought to myself:

"Tribalfusion, that rolls off the tongue. Quite cool! How about I go with that? It does need a little flair, though. A slightly more personal touch."

So, before long, I was known as tribalfusion_X. After a year and a bit or so of being tribalfusion_X, I did get kind of tired of not having a capital letter to start my name off, so I asked Tom to change that for me and he did within a week. Then came the update and all underscores in names turned into hyphens so I was henceforth known as Tribalfusion-X. It only took until 2010 (I think) for me to feel that the fusion part of my alias was something I'd grown out of. I looked up whether or not Tribal as a standalone name was available and it wasn't, but I saw that the owner of that account's last activity was over 5 years ago. This was enough to convince Tom to let me take it instead. And there you have it. I'm the search result for both Tribalfusion_X and Tribal now, and feel confident and pleased with my name."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Tribal:

"If you've kept up with my early posts in particular, you should be able to tell just how thoroughly I've developed from being an immature child into... nevermind. At least I can spell properly now, though. I also feel that, as English isn't my first language, Newgrounds was a strong contributor to my advancement of it at an early age and I easily took the top of my class thanks to Newgrounds and a certain video game I was fond of. I can't find any concrete examples as to how else NG has impacted my life but I can assure you that I could genuinely not go a day without this place anymore. Ok, maybe a week."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Tribal:

"I know Damien from Newgrounds and we've become great friends while talking more and more over messaging software. He's a talented animator and I suggest you interview him too if you haven't chosen to already. There are some other users I've talked to, one among which, in addition to Damien, who has become a close friend of mine in a very short time as well. How mere PM's can escalate, right?"

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Tribal:

"Some years ago, I added several people on MSN by their e-mail addresses from a thread that was all about that. One among which was some douchy little British kid. I talked to him several times on MSN and when he could apparently only talk about how awesome it was that he went to this army camp or whatever and seemingly forcibly had no other interests, especially video games, I thought he was a loser but more of a douchebag. The main point, however, is that this douchey kid was also exactly on par with me in terms of experience points on Newgrounds. He deposited points every day and so did I and I hated that I just couldn't beat him. Therefore I prayed hard that I could, one day soon do that. That same summer, I had to go on a one-week trip with my parents. Lo' and behold, there was no internet (despite my mother promising me that there was so I would come along without as much of a struggle). I could not deposit experience. This fact jabbed me in the eye like a vulture every day and I hoped that this asshole would also have some extra outdoor activity that took him away from a connected computer for a few days.

Nope. I came home and one of the first things I did was to compare our experience points. Of course he was 50 points, 5 days ahead of me. Needless to say, I was pretty pissed off. It wasn't long after that, though, that the kid made a thread about posing some vague risk to the people around him because he intended to burn down his school with one small can of petrol (or rather, unverifyable contents). You know who I'm talking about by now, I'm confident. I followed up on the thread, saw that he was incarcerated and put into a correctional facility. My teenage mind was filled with a strange feeling of "Did I cause this?" because I remember praying that this dweeb would stop depositing for some fucking time, already. Of course he wasn't allowed to anymore and I shot passed him like lightning. Now, every time I look at his profile, I feel a sense of pride and commitment suddenly mean a whole lot more than it would have without that shitty little Brit."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Tribal:

"Like most forum users, I spend most of my time in the General forums. I'll go to Wi/Ht once in a while to see if there's something I can help out with but the other forums don't really interest me that much, even though I really feel they should. My life is still full of action right now, and a lot of time-consuming action at that, so I'm not going to expand (or migrate) to other forums than the General just yet (or, perhaps, anymore). Oh yeah, as I've said, you should hit up Damien. I'd like to see Gagsy interviewed as well since I'm curious for her answers."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Tribal:

"I think they do. But now, with our once sizeable community reverting into what could fit into a shoe box. Their presence (and, apprently, the need for it) is in a vast decline, no longer really allowing me to judge their prowess properly. Also, right now, some troll signed up and made 4 spam threads, hitting his limit, that have existed for a full hour. I don't, however, feel right to blame the moderators or the staff of NG for this. Most people would only really take the job in exchange for some compensation. That's not really a terrible prerogative but it's still not going to happen. I used to think quite highly of our mods and I experience difficulty letting that sentiment dissipate due to them not being as active anymore, just like the community."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Tribal:

"I kind of wanted to at the start, but I was afraid of not being able to be a good one. Now, I simply wouldn't be able to dredge up the time to be a proper moderator. The kind I was always envisaging was forum mod (for the General forums specifically, if not all) but now I feel that that's more of a child's dream."

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

Tribal:

"I was a great fan of the old layout from before 2007 but I learned that even that one was an update from the original design that I never got to be a part of. I was, however, very pleased with every redesigned advancement, from the easy to use interface to the angry faic easter egg in the forum icon in the 2007 redesign(they got me square with that one, what about you?). The smileys one could attach to one's threads were very much an up for me. It's the little things in life, right?"

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Tribal:

"The current design, however, I'm not so pleased with. Everything seems quite obfuscated and put in places it shouldn't be. There are some features I'm pleased with such as dumping grounds, the extra settings, adding friends and most of the UI at the top left there, actually (oh, and the now, finally kind of working search bar). But to be honest, the things I could normally reach more easily now requires more clicks to get to and I'm really not a fan of that. Also, the forum smileys and level icons took a turn for the worse and those graphical aspects really turned out to play a bigger role for NG, in my view, over the years."

Newgrounds is going through some changes lately, like the change of the UJ system and the future removal of the NG store. If you would have to predict the future, how do you think will Newgrounds look in 5 years from now?

Tribal:

"The NG store being removed is a massive hint as to the financial status of (and how much Tom is still willing to invest in) NG. I don't blame the guy, he has a family and that always comes first, but it does suck. Oh well. One more reason to plug it hard and maybe squeeze out some last minute sales before the products become relics.

Where do I see NG in 5 years? If they hadn't added the capability to upload .mp4 files, I strongly believe NG would be dead by 2015. Not having the domain sold, just less people being here at all and a lot less uploads. Technology is changing and we have to face facts: Flash is dying and Newgrounds is the leading Flash portal. There's only so much more time we can possibly have left. Don't get me wrong, I like flash and I'm a strong supporter for all flash content, despite not being able to really animate, myself. But yeah, this place would have pretty much been a ghost town if it wasn't for that feature. It's sad to see the majestic Flash-exclusive Newgrounds fade into being another video portal, though. Every time a known, senior user who's known for uploading great .swf's turns to .mp4 content (because they can then easily put the same file on Youtube as well, and, let's face it, that's where you get paid from if you're good), I get a sinking feeling in my heart."

You are the creator of the The Mythical Murder story series. Tell our readers what the series is about. When did you start writing and will you post more stories on Newgrounds in the future?

Tribal:

"Oh God, you found that? I probably won't post any more stories until I'm at liberty to kick off as a writer, actually. I was writing a larger, more powerful and emotional story that's close to my heart, but I ran out of inspiration when my muse for it went with the wind. The Mythical Murder was supposed to be a story of which I would regularly upload another chapter and I found very fun to write. It would be about a young man chasing the killer of his girlfriend who would turn out to be some ancient greek mythological creature lead by whoever I could think of.

I always wanted to be a writer when I was younger, but I learned that that didn't pay the bills unless I was J.K. Rowling famous and good. I've also become a very descriptive writer, writing from what I see before me as though I'm describing a movie for my readers to the smallest detail, but I've been told that it's not boring or annoying a tendency of mine and those close enough to me to have received this story (very few, let me tell you) have all enjoyed it very much. It's strange, therefore, that I'm not so much drawn to continuing my writing carreer with such a vivid pull as used to be. A shame, perhaps, but on Newgrounds, I confess I mostly wrote the story for recognition, most of which, I now realize was most likely given sarcastically. Still fun and interesting that it stayed in the mind of someone."

Are you looking forward to the eventually upcoming Literature Poral? If so, do you plan to publish your stories there?

Tribal:

"As said above, I don't really read other forums so I doubt I'll be able to dedicate my time to reading the products of users in a portal that are entirely about writing, much though it pains me. And I do care. I just have neither the time, nor the energy. I would consider posting my works there, if ever I get a creative enough burst and a jolt of willpower sufficient to drive me to actually write something, but the legal use others would have to my work (or at least, the capability of theft) is still something that concerns me greatly. I'm sure Tom would put in some sort of clause that helps deal with it, but I'm a really paranoid guy none the less. But one day, perhaps, some training snippets or short stories for fun, who knows? If Newgrounds hasn't died by then, that is."

In January 2008, you publicly stated that gummy bears are your favourite candy. However, in Agust 2010 suddenly "flat white chocolate bars" have become your favourite. Please explain that change in taste to our viewers and reveal what your current favourite candy is.

Tribal:

"You really ought to be an investigator. And props on thusly having come up with different questions for every interviewee. I, for one, appreciate the dedication. As a Belgian, I feel I know my share about chocolate, so I'm going to have to side with that for my current favorite. My 2008 decision for gummy bears as my choice will most likely have been simply on a whim. They are good, but it's basically just rubber, right? Rubber and sugar. White chocolate is tasty, but it's not really chocolate. Just a sugary mess. I do really like it though, but every time I take a bite from it, regardless of brand, I feel a bit guilty. Not because I feel I'd get fat from it or anything, but because it feels like the next worst thing to a culinary sin for me (unless it contains nuts). Nothing beats some good coco. But who knows, perhaps in another few years, I'll discover something else that conquers my fancy."

Tribal:

"Secrets are meant to be and remain secret, and I'm really not itching to reveal my inner self to the public in any way, so that's a no no. What does Newgrounds not know of me yet? That I'm actually, secretly not quite the least quoted user of them all? Still seems like it, though. And I am the greatest thread killer of them all."

Tribal:

"I'm going to say you can expect more forum posts from me. In my later years of being here, I've allowed that to diminish under the weight of my other worldly responsibilities, but no longer! To those who appreciate reading my posts, since I never post hollow shit, two-worded foolery or general drivel, I'm not gone yet! As for literature or Flash content, I'm not sure if I'll have the time or talent for either any time soon to be able to put in much at any rate, but we'll see. Keep hoping."

Interview with Tribal

Posted by Asandir - November 18th, 2013

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user darkjam.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username darkjam?

darkjam:

"I first heard about Newgrounds back in 2007 and about how it has all these cool flashes and games. At the time I was really into that sort of stuff and I still am, just not as much, anyway I went onto the site and watched a couple of animations, and played some games, I think I remember playing this one flash where Mario had a shotgun, I had a blast with that (hehehe blast, shotgun 2punny4u) I really liked the site and kept visiting daily up until mid 2009 when I stopped because I just lost interest, then I remembered the site last year and decided to make an account, which then led me to find out about the forums, my friend used to go onto the forums and said that in 06 and 07 things were really wild, it seems some people can't let go of that phase to me. The reason I chose the name darkjam is because one day I was playing on my PS3 and just saw somebody with that name and thought it was pretty cool, yeah I'm not very original."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

darkjam:

"Yes I do. Before I used to be completely blind and just follow the crowd, but now I have grown to develop my own opinions and not just back down in an argument because somebody has a good point, I counter act that and keep trying, I also have a better sense of humor thanks to probably 99% of the users here, who knew bacon could be so funny? I think that in real life my attitude towards life in general has also changed due to me learning and seeing other people's type of opinions and noticing them, even if some are completely idiotic."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

darkjam:

"I've always liked DrClay, Jester, BobbyBroccoli, Lionelion and Dean, I seem to really connect with them and they weren't dicks to me when I first responded to them or they to me. I think the way the affect me is that I can just relate to them really, talk about anything, games in particular. To be honest I'm not really sure how they affect me other than that I can relate to them and that they aren't dicks, they do help me out a lot though and I guess help build my confidence, or did when I first joined."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

darkjam:

"Amaranthus is annoying, and so is Hydex3, they just bother me, I dunno what it is but they just do. Other than that I don't really hate anybody, the community is pretty good, sure there are people i have disagreements with, but who doesn't? It doesn't really make sense to not argue with someone and just go about your life without one little spat. It is just plain weird."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer?

darkjam:

"I always liked the forums, it's why I've stuck around for a year and hopefully much, much longer, it's a good place but it isn't exactly the type of place you want to get your questions about life answered, but the users will bring along their humor to the party, which makes it all the more fun. I always preferred the general over the others mainly because of all the variety of threads, from bacon, to favourite type of cheese, or to whether you would fap to in an internet cafe (yes I saw that once) even though I go on the video games forums more than general, I just prefer it because of all the previous reasons, it seems to link all the users together, no matter what forum you usually go on."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

darkjam:

"I think they do a good job, definitely. They are fair and I love it when they lock a thread with humor (too bad they never used that gif I requested for them to use :( ) however they can be unfair at times, for example: This one time I made a thread about brogres being better than bronies and it gets taken down, what's so bad about brogres? We are allowed to talk about bronies but not brogres, why the hell not? But in all fairness I was I screwing around and the Mod or Admin who deleted the thread probably knew that and used his/her head (come to think of it I've never seen or heard of a girl mod/admin/staff)."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

darkjam:

"I wouldn't be like one of those beggers kissing up to Fulp's ass just to be one, but I wouldn't mind becoming one if I was given the opportunity. I would probably like to become a video game moderator because it is the forum that I go on a lot, although it is fairly dead when I see the user population for who is on, so I would probably go onto clubs or crews, I don't see a lot of mods on that place, maybe even a chat mod, I like to go onto the chat just to see all the interesting conversations people have about life, I once saw somebody talking about Chun Li eating her own legs O.o some strange stuff goes on in the chat my friend."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

darkjam:

"I don't remember much about the old redesign although from what I do remember they seem the same in my mind ,but my mind has a tendency to change things to suit my image. Personally I have no problem with it, the design looks more modern, the backgrounds look cool and funky and the fact that I can move stuff around such as the videos, games, art,is an awesome touch which I have never seen before on a website. I guess the only thing that is annoying is the ads before a game, video and the ad banner below the games, movies, audio, art, channels, community and shop NG tabs, but those are minor complaints which don't really affect me as much as people claim they do, besides if Tom has to put them up there, then let him do what he wants, so long as he doesn't sell NG then I'm fine with what he does. Unless he completely screws up the whole site."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You mentioned in one of your newsposts that you like the music genre Grunge. Can you tell us which Grunge artists you like the most?

darkjam:

"My favourite grunge band is probably Nirvana, mainly because they are the first I heard and their music is just really catchy. I remember first hearing one of their songs in like 2005, I think it was Smells Like Teen Spirit, or was it Heart Shaped Box? I dunno, but what I do know is that ever since I heard their songs I went on a mission to find out who they were, and when I did, their music did not disappoint me, I've been listening to it a shit ton and it never gets stale or old. It's too bad Cobain died, he produced some amazing music, hopefully somebody will pop up one day and be just as good as him."

I think you are a Spiderman fan. Tell me your opinion about the Spiderman movies and which villian you like the most.

darkjam:

"Boy you got that right, I freaking LOVE Spiderman, he's been my favourite fictional character since I was like 3 when I first saw the awesomness of the 1994 Spiderman cartoon. I've been reading his comics ever since 2002 and haven't stopped since. I personally think the movies are amazing (hey see what I did there? Amazing, AMZAZING SPIDERMAN? 2funny4u!) even Spiderman 3 has some good parts, looking back at it the Emo Parker scene is actually the highlight of the movie, it's so bad and embarrassing it's hilarious, Spiderman 1 will always be my favourite with Amazing Spiderman closely behind, then Spiderman 2 and Spiderman 3. My favourite villain from the series is and always will be the Green Goblin mainly because of his awesome costume. The way he behaves is awesome as well, to me he's like Spiderman's take on the Joker, but more green."

I know that you played The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. Looking back at this game, what was your favourite quest(line) and character? Did you get the Shivering Isles Add-on? If so, what is your opinion about it?

darkjam:

"I really enjoyed that game, I've had it since I got my PS3 and I still play it to this day. My favourite story line has to be the Knights of the Nine because it was the one storyline that finally encouraged me to explore the world and not just walk around cities. I never really had a favourite character but if I have to choose then probably Wilhelm the Worm because he jut looks and sounds like an idiot. I really wanted to get the Shivering Isles expansion but never got around to it because by the time it came out, I had completed Oblivion and was bored of it, I have been thinking about getting it though because of Sheogorath and his randomness."

You have a Nintendo 3DS. Talk about your favourite games for the 3DS.

darkjam:

"I don't really have a favourite game for the 3DS, I sadly haven't bought a lot of games for it mainly due to me getting it at a time when other games I wanted came out, then the Wii U, then Bioshock Infinite, then Injustice, then The Last of Us, then Grand Theft Auto 5, and next the PS4. I am hopefully going to get Pokemon X or Y for christmas and after that I will probably slowly build up my collection. Currently though my favourite 3DS game, if I have to choose, would be Kid Icarus uprising because of all it's fast paced action, the funny humor and my favourite thing in a video game: Breaking the fourth wall."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

darkjam:

"Well to be honest I have no secrets right now, well I do, but I can't say those, they are EXTREMELY private, so sorry. Something you don't know about me is that I am an indian, not white like some people presume. I don't understand why people think, if they don't know what your skin colour is and you live in a country where it's primary language is english then you are automatically white, I mean could this be considered racist? I dunno but it's always bothered me and it gets real annoying."

darkjam:

"Well I dunno to be honest. I came onto this site to watch all the cool flashes and play all the cool games, then talk and socialize with all the cool users on the forums, that's all I wanna do right now and in the future. I am learning flash though and might start making animations, which will probably suck, which is why I'm holding back on the idea but hey you never know. To fully answer this question, I will answer this question with another question. What do you want to see from me in the future?"

Interview with darkjam

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user BumFodder.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username BumFodder?

BumFodder:

"I found Newgrounds in 2004. I hadn't had the internet for quite a few years before that, and I remembered playing on the old flash sites like stickpage on dial up and wanted to play more things like that, and Newgrounds was the biggest flash site so it was easy to find. I joined later on from that so I could post on the forums and so I could get more voting power I think.

The name BumFodder reflects how random I was at the time, I couldn't really think of a username so I thought of bums (the thing you sit on for americans) and then what comes out of it. I still like it though since it's just so bad."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

BumFodder:

"When I joined here I was a silly kid who posted stupid stuff, and when it made people mad I tried to make them madder. I'd say I've never really acted differently online than offline, and I'd also say I've changed a lot from a stupid kid to what I am now. There was a couple of years where I had only a handful of posts on here, and after that I was a lot less stupid."

BumFodder:

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

BumFodder:

"Well these days 90% of posts are on General, and the other forums are far too specific to have much discussion. The forums have also been on an infamous decline in quality since the last redesign and im pretty sure it can't get any worse. Newgrounds is still great for keeping in touch and the occasional shitpost though I have to admit.

As for interviewing, either ihatesonic1 or Drinze would be really good. They pm around a lot and Drinze has been around for ages."

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

BumFodder:

"I think the design before was a lot better both visually and functionally. With the newer one they hid the portal and introduced the poorly designed pages to replace them. After the hype was over the flash approving went down to the slowest speed ever, I remember it was purple constantly for months. The drop down menus are also kind of annoying and bad for mobiles, and other stuff too like worse level icons. I remember at first people were defending it like "Oh you'll get used to it, it's better bla bla bla" but now time has passed I've not heard one person defend this one. I just wish there were some options to change it back."

You play Team Fortress 2. Tell me which class you like to play most and what you think about the overall changes that this game went through in the last years.

BumFodder:

"I used to be really good at it but I don't play it much anymore, but I have played the Scout, Sniper and Demo the most. What I think about the changes to TF2 is quite similar to what I think about Newgrounds, except slower. Sometime after the medic update they began releasing a load of unbalanced stuff due to the economy, and it slowly started getting worse and worse until it was more about the items than the playing. It's most fun now on vanilla 24 player servers."

I also like the visual novels but it get's stupid later on, and a lot of them arent translated and are hard to get, etc. I would'nt say it's the best ever but it's still my favourite, I just find the characters really likeable, the premise interesting, the fact you need to think more than usual to make sense of it all since the stories universe as a whole is a bit of a mindfuck. I've only ever been to two concerts and they were when I was a kid, one was just a bunch of different crap bands, and the other was the Lighthouse Family which is quite possibly the least exciting act for a concert lol."

Interview with BumFodder

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Lemonardo.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Lemonardo?

Lemonardo:

"If my memory serves me well, I discovered Newgrounds from a flash game on a website similar to this one - Miniclip - all the way back in around 2002. I would have been around eleven at the time. The game was Squigly Fish Racer, and I remember, as a result of mashing buttons for so long, almost destroying the keyboard of the old iMac computer we had at the time. A link in the game brought me to Newgrounds. Of course, me being an eleven-year-old from the UK at the time, didn't understand the majority of the content on there - I think I first visited the site when a bunch 9/11-related flashes were on the front page - but I played a few of the games that were on there at the time, such as Rooftop Skater and Create-A-Ride.

I had never noticed the forums until I was 16 in 2007, after I started to visit the site more in my spare time, but I waited until late 2008 before I joined, simply because I was terrified of the place at first because, at the time, I was about as sociable as a brick, and that might even be a stretch. I didn't have a good time at high school, and it made me quite an awkward person to be around, so it was very hard for me to talk to people for a while. I joined initially because it was a way for me to chat without the need to talk face-to-face.

I've been through a fair few of usernames since I joined: at first I was TheBloxMaster, because I had a collection of the many beloved Lego and Mega Blocks sets that I had built as a kid which I never got rid of. As time went on, I went from TheBloxMaster to BobaDobo, to w33zl, and then finally Lemonardo. I went through so many names because I really wanted a name that was original but simple, and would also convey that I was someone who should not always be taken too seriously, but is still genuine and sensible, and at the end I thought Lemonardo fit that description of myself well enough that I made it my username."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Lemonardo:

"Looking back, I actually adapted and fit in fairly quickly since I first joined the site, much like how I gained confidence around that time in 2008-9. I could go as far as to say that the Newgrounds community helped me do that by always giving me the opportunity to talk to someone about something. I am a lot different now than I was when I joined back in 2008. I can admit that I am a lot more stubborn in what I view is right and wrong, and I can come across as a bit arrogant and a bit of an asshole, but I believe it is a sign of real strength if you are able to live by your own judgement, and I can safely say that it really helps your case in arguments."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Lemonardo:

"I think everybody loves Gagsy anyway, and I'm no exception. She's a really pleasant person to talk to about nearly anything, and if you don't have anything to say, she isn't afraid to talk about herself either. Overall, she's honest . I don't often speak to users personally, but most of those I have spoken to were those asking for favours or had been at the receiving end of some comment or a ban and that I just wanted to speak to in case they were upset.

They help me with some my own troubles too, and I'm certain that these exchanges of support have aided me through some dark times."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Lemonardo:

"I could give the cliché answer and say somebody who has a reputation for being annoying, such as a certain supergandhi64, but to be honest, I don't dislike him He has never caused me any grief, and in fact, I think he may have made me laugh a few times. There were a handful of users a fair amount of time ago that I'm sure I was not alone in disliking, but they are not nearly as active or as bad as they were before, so there's no point in naming names, and I'm not one to cause grief to somebody else anymore."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Lemonardo:

"They are not looking good, I'll say; the culture of the internet has changed enough that forums in general are not nearly as popular as they used to be. People would now rather speak spontaneously in a tweet or a chat message than carefully construct a message, making sure you don't say anything regrettable and keep up your online reputation, and I think this has rubbed off onto the forums as some old users started to leave and new users started to join from around 2010-11. Then they left after the older users that remain drew them away, so at the moment the forums are a wasteland, but I'm sure if we welcome any new users we do get the place will be on the mend.

I keep to the General forums; most users on other boards tend to post exclusively in topics which go over dozens of pages, so it feels like a chore, reading through everything everyone has ever said so you don't make a redundant post. Talking about random topics brings out more of a user's more personal views and ideas, so it's easier to get to know someone on the General forum than, say, the Audio forum.

It would be really good if you would get an interview of one of the higher-up members in the food chain. I'm sure you could get Rucklo to say a few interesting things."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Lemonardo:

"I think there are many in that position that take the job a little too seriously - there are some that punish users for simply disagreeing with what a moderator has done or said, even if it was downright wrong. I think that tends to occur in users who use their position to intimidate the regular, which is no better than a hall monitor making threats of telling the teacher to passing students. On the other hand, there are a number of users that don't do anything at all, or even use their powers to get away with posting spam or tormenting other users. The few moderators that actually do it right are becoming less and less active, to the point where there are days where there are none at all."

Lemonardo:

"I believe I'm more than capable of moderating the General forum. My strong sense of justice and what's right and wrong may allow me to make decisions when dealing with an incident, and my new-found confidence will certainly help me deal with the scrutiny that will most likely come from being given the job instead of somebody else. It's not enough to systematically ban every single user that breaks or has broken a rule; sometimes you have to judge them based on their intentions as well as their actions.

It's convenient that I live in the UK, because that means during the time I am home from work, it is peak time in America, so I can fill in for the American moderators that would typically be at work at that time."

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Lemonardo:

"What I said just after the launch describes my opinion quite well: "I absolutely love it. You can tell a lot of care was put into this and it really pays off. It'll just take me a while to get used to." The only difference now is that I've since gotten used to it. You know when a website's design is good when you don't even have to consciously think about what you have to click to get to a certain page. The only gripe that I would've had would have been that the restructuring of the Flash Portal didn't make much sense to me - the old one worked perfectly fine - but that has since been solved with the addition of the Classic Portal. If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Since 2010 you have been sumbitting music to Newgrounds. When did you start making music? Which artists inspire you and which genre do you like the most? What changes would you like seeing implented for the audio portal?

Lemonardo:

"I actually started my projects in music back in 2009, when I was using the Punk-O-Matic 2 Flash game to record rock songs to put them onto CDs. After a couple albums, I started to play with PoM songs in Audacity, creating 13-minute-long noisefests of guitars with layers of effects and bizarre rhythms. It was incredibly fun, so I downloaded the Fruity Loops demo and played with the various sounds it had (you can hear a lot of my early stuff on the Punk-O-Matic website), and pretty much all that has happened since is that I have learnt the basics of music production and now I'm trying to get cracking on with producing music professionally. It is my main goal in life to get a job in the music industry as a producer.

My music portfolio since the beginning of 2012 can be found on my Bandcamp page."

You mentioned that you like the TV series Oz. Tell me what that show is about and why you like it.

Lemonardo:

"It's set in a maximum-security prison where each ethnic group of inmates are encouraged to socialise with each other, in an attempt by the officers to get rid of the hateful thoughts that got them into there in the first place. I have loved the show ever since I first watched it because of how it deals with the issues humanity faces in real life, such as how the wrong circumstances can often cause the most decent man to do a horrible thing, and how society often doesn't acknowledge that criminals are still human, to the point where a free man could wish another dead; when you watch it, it makes you stop and think about the more regrettable things you might have felt for someone else and what you can do to make yourself a better person as a result of that."

I think you might like the series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Do you have a favourite episode, if so which one is it? Who is your favourite villain? If you would be a Ninja Turtle, what would be the weapon(s) of your choice and which colour would you choose for your mask?

Lemonardo:

"I think I was a bit too young to have really appreciated the show, not to mention it wasn't nearly as popular in the UK as I suppose it was in the US. I did watch a bit though, and I'd have to say that my favourite villian is Krang, just because he was such fun to watch have his plans foiled all the time, and I think it helps that he is a pink wrinkly blob with eyes and a mouth that wants to take over the world."

You are the creator of the widely know parody comic series "tennage mutent ninjer tertels". Tell our readers how you got the idea to start this comic and if you plan to continue this promising project in the future.

Lemonardo:

"It actually started out as part of 'Dolan', a meme that was circulating around the Internet at the time, and I just thought which children's TV series I could 'Dolanise' so I picked Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Unfortunately, it was well-received, and gained minor popularity on image sharing websites and especially on this website since I uploaded it to the Art Portal.

I'm not making any more of these, because they just won't be funny anymore - that is, if it is actually funny to anyone and they're not just pretending to laugh because they feel pity for my awful sense of humour."

Lemonardo:

"I am also the creator of another internet meme: a comic strip parodying the TV show 'The Big Bang Theory.' The video I released on my YouTube channel to accompany the strip has reached over 26,000 views and is rising fairly steadily. Several videos that have referenced my comic, such as this video parody animated by KawaiiPiranha."

I'll still be on the BBS too. Maybe the chat. But more the BBS.

Bye!"

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username VinnyXY?

Vinnyy:

"I discovered this site either in late '06 or early '07. I was searching up some Zombie games on Google (big fan of it back then) and one of the links that I clicked on took me to this site. As for my name, my name wasn't always VinnyXY. It used to be Vinny99 when I first signed up. I wanted to change my name, because I didn't like the numbers in it, but Vinny was already taken, so I decided to add something at the end."

Changed his name to Vinnyy shortly after the interview was made

Vinnyy:

"I think I have changed in terms of the quality of my posts. Back then my posts used to be all short and simple replies, but now my posting skills have improved in that I try putting more effort into my posts now than I did back then. Vinnyy:

"There is one user on this site that I know. His username is ttaisawesome. I met him back in '08. He used to back me up whenever I got flamed by a troll. Yes, I dealt with quite a lot of trolls back then. As for how my relationship with him currently goes, I don't talk to him a lot anymore. My interactions with him declined even more when I took a break from Newgrounds from late 2011 to early 2013. However, I recently commented on his news page and he was startled to see me. He had a hard time believing that I still remember him after such a while."

I haven't had any interactions with him in a while. He might not even know/remember me, because when I met him it was when I still had my old name, so he might not even be aware that I'm Vinny99."

I sometimes get a good laugh when I read the replies from some of the people here, so I guess entertainment is one of the factors that keeps me coming here. I know a user named Slint that I see in the forums very often. I would like to see his thoughts and opinions."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Vinnyy:

"I do respect some of the mods for their involvement in the Newgrounds community. Feeling safe and protected from any trolls, spammers, and other offenders who lurk around on this site is key in my mind.

In terms of how the mods regulate places such as the BBS, I would say they do a considerably good job at it. I mean, when I visit the BBS sometimes I come across certain threads that I wish would be locked or deleted and most of the time it does happen. The thread does get prevented from continuing on any further. These threads usually include spam, inappropriate content, or just needless bickering."

Newgrounds is going through some changes lately, like the change of the UJ system and the future removal of the NG store. If you would have to predict the future, how do you think will Newgrounds look in 5 years from now?

You write a fair amount of reviews for Newgrounds submissions. Tell me what you like about the Newgrounds review system and what you you would change about it.

Vinnyy:

"I generally like how we each get to express our opinions and thoughts towards the submission. I think this is a excellent feature to start with.

If I could change anything regarding the review system, it would be to make it so that you can write an infinite number of reviews, because it bothers me how reviews are permanent and once you submit one you cannot take it back or submit another one. This is one of the reasons why people create a lot of alts, because they want to submit another review.

However, I would make it so that you may only give a rating in the first review that you write for the submission. You can't do it for any further reviews you submit afterwards, because it would greatly affect a submission if people could give it a rating unlimited times."

You mentioned that you have amazing memory skills. Do you think that this is purely a positive trait, or can it also be a burden when you are unable to forget unpleasent situations?

Vinnyy:

"This "talent" of mine, if I can even call it that, is both beneficial and bothersome to me, because there have been times in my life in which I was required to remember or memorize something. Like for example, having to memorize a huge list of vocab words for a quiz which I was forced to do once. These are the times that my memory skills has benefited me.

And then there are times when it has done nothing but discomfort me, because it has caused me to remember things that I wish I could forget. My memories of some of the failures, disasters, embarrassments, etc., that have happened to me in my life tends to stay with me and I can't get it out of my head. Just thinking about it does make me very uneasy. These are the times when my memory capabilities would almost seem like a curse for me."

RuneScape is an MMORPG that you play. Tell our readers what RuneScape is and what you like about this game. Additionally, talk about the first video game that you played.

Vinnyy:

"It's a multi-player online game that I used to play often. I discovered it back in 2005 and just recently I have stopped playing it. It's a massive adventure game created by a British company called Jagex. As for the actual goals of this game, I don't know where to start, because there's tons of stuff to do. You can fight monsters, train skills, chat with other players, complete quests, explore numerous places, and many more. Basically, it's just like other RPGs, such as World of Warcraft.

I will never forget the time when I first stumbled upon Runescape back in 2005. It was a memorable experience without a doubt. Now keep in mind, I was only 9 back then, so I wasn't exactly the best player, but as time passed I eventually mastered it all. I think it was the first RPG I ever played."

I'm sorry, but I'm not one of those people who plan to make a major impact on a community or society and be remembered for a long time to come. I tend to think of myself as just an ordinary person with nothing special.

In terms of what to expect from me on Newgrounds, other than seeing me post in the forums more in the future, nothing really."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Havegum.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Havegum?

Havegum:

"I found Newgrounds ages ago as a kid looking for flash games. The site sparked an interest in game creation, and I started learning some basic actionscript programming and some simple animation. Really I was absolutely terrible, but from there someone suggested I should learn how to draw before attempting to animate and that's how I got into art.

My username has a short and sweet story. When computers were first introduced to us at school, and we got our own usernames and passwords to remember, the format for the usernames was [Initials][Last name]. My first two initials are H and A, and my last name is Vegum, I decided to stick with it. It wasn't until years later someone pointed out the name could also be read as Have Gum."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Havegum:

"Definitely. I'm sure everyone who signed up to Newgrounds as a kid has grown a lot since they signed up, it's only natural. In my case I remember me being the typical 13-14 year old attention-seeking kid. I like to think I've grown out of that for the most part.

I've also gotten far in terms of artistic development compared to when I started out. The art forum community has played a big part in both keeping up enthusiasm to draw stuff, and also helped me a lot in growing out of that petty prepubescent teenager mentality."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Havegum:

"There are a handful of users I like more than others. From sexual deviants, to moral supremacists, artistic inspirations, and interesting conversationalists. They affect me in the way that I can often catch myself copying small fragments of what I think is cool about them.

That goes for some more than others, for instance when I started out drawing, I strived to adopt the style of some of my peers, and that has played a big part in how I draw now."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Havegum:

"I don't consider anyone my enemies. There are BBS posters that bring a lot of negative attitude with their sarcastic remarks and ironic shitposting for mocking purposes. I don't think there shouldn't be any good-hearted taunting here and there, but I believe we could do without alienating new users, or users who genuinely try to contribute to the site.

It's easy to mock someone else for trying and failing, but to make decent contributions takes effort, and I think effort should be praised, not mocked."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Havegum:

"These days I spend most of my time on NG at the general forum. A few years ago I used the art forum almost exclusively, but after a two-year hiatus from NG I came back to find a lot of the old regulars had moved elsewhere and since then I never really got to know the new ones the same way as the earlier ones. I don't have anyone in particular I want to see an interview with the most, but the art forum regulars are a good bunch from what I know, so perhaps one of them?"

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Havegum:

"The moderators are doing an alright job in my opinion. I think so-called “destroying” spam threads – where the thread gets deleted, OP of said thread gets a ban, and everyone who replied to the thread gets a slightly shorter ban – is a bit silly, but that's all."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Havegum:

"It would be cool to be an incognito forum moderator without the golden aura on my icon. I imagine once you have the golden aura, posting in threads as a regular user gets difficult as any user will immediately be able to tell you apart from the rest."

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Havegum:

"The redesign split the flash portal into two, and obscured the “under judgement” in the process. At the same time, new flashes from known artist are being frontpaged within minutes of uploading, as well as level icons losing significance in the forum. This means there's much less incentive to actually go vote on stuff. The design and art direction may be cool, but I think the functionality has dropped and that splitting the flash portal has only hurt the judgement process.

Another thing is the redesign was extremely delayed. I think it getting a site up and running shouldn't take three years. It leads me to think maybe the NG staff isn't as organized and streamlined as it needs to be?"

Newgrounds is going through some changes lately, like the change of the UJ system and the future removal of the NG store. If you would have to predict the future, how do you think will Newgrounds look in 5 years from now?

Havegum:

"I think it depends on how the staff handles things in the future. I strongly believe that a creative hub like Newgrounds has its place on the internet, and it would be upsetting to see larger sites like Youtube and DeviantArt monopolize their respective specialities.

The decaying userbase is perhaps the most evident part, and I believe some of the reason it's happening is because there's no new user influx. Newgrounds used to be able to float on its reputation of being a bit edgy and provocative, but that won't do anymore. I think advertisement would be a good idea. And not just advertisement targeted at artists, but a broader consumer-oriented audience. That way there's a good chance Newgrounds can spark some creativity amongst the new users, and help bring up new artists with new directions."

Halloween is coming up. Are you looking forward to it, also as Newgrounds special days? And what do you think about the Halloween Level icons?

Havegum:

"Halloween on Newgrounds might be interesting. Sadly, I don't pay as much attention to the special days of NG as I used to. From what I remember it's always interesting to see what different minds come up with, and their different interpretations of the same theme.

The Halloween level icons are neat, though with my recent affection for pixel art I keep noticing more and more sloppy pixel work which makes me wanna go right in there and edit them out!"

You are an artist. Tell our readers when you started making art and also talk about which artists inspired/helped you.

Havegum:

"First time I started drawing was late 2009. Before that was nothing but elementary school assignments and kindergarten doodles. Needless to say my art was as horrible as my attitude was immature back then, but somehow I was tolerated and gradually got better.

On the subject of who inspired and helped me, I must say pretty much everyone in the art forum community has at some point helped or inspired me. Starting out, I sought out a style similar to that of M-Vero, later I wanted to shift more towards the direction of J-qb. My inspiration at the time was mostly exclusively peer artists at Newgrounds. Art was more about the social thing and being part of a community than anything else.

Towards the end of 2010 my posting slowed down and I took a two year long hiatus from NG. At the time I was in school with a subject called “media design” among other things. From there I got a more thorough introduction to composition principles, colour theory and the likes. When I got back to art and Newgrounds I had a fresh perspective which I think helped me tons in terms of artistic improvement.

Along the way I have experimented with different techniques and styles. I've tried to do comic-esque drawings, pixel art, digital painting, flash animation, graphic design. Most recently I've been focusing on pixel art. One of the most significant reasons I got back into pixel art specifically is fellow Newgrounds user and pixel artist Carrion, whose work is just a massive inspiration."

You recently drew a fantastic drawing of the Pokémon Poliwag. Could you imagine turning this into a series where you redraw more Pokémon in your style?.

Havegum:

"The Poliwag was made for the Creature Design Studio #4 thread. The idea was to draw pokemon in ones own style and to try to preserve the identity of the character at the same time. I remember working on it in one go and once I was finished I was just struck by how absolutely boring it looked. The whole point was to stylize the pokemon while all I had done was re-render it with no actual stylization.

As for it turning to a series? I wouldn't know about that. Nearly every project of considerate size I've started on have failed. I usually just draw whatever I feel motivated to draw at that moment. Sometimes it's a painting of Miles Davis, sometimes it's a funky turtle doing a Jam, or a Minecraft Creeper stalking about, or a small sprite sheet with a castle, or a pixel walk cycle. I used to spontaneously draw for various threads in the general forum which sparked my attention or put an image in my head I felt I needed to visualize. I haven't done it in a while, so maybe it's time to get back on that?"

You said in one of your posts that you like Adventure time. Tell our readers what you like about this show and what it is about.

Havegum:

"Sadly I don't follow Adventure Time so much. I think it's an interesting show, but it doesn't air on any of the channels I have available, so watching it gets a bit tricky.

I remember it being a bit silly of a show. It brings up some dull clichés, but the characters on their own are interesting enough to make it entertaining."

Limbo is an indie game that you played. Tell me your thoughts about this game and also talk about other indie titles and scary games that you like.

Havegum:

"The one thing about Limbo that impressed me the most was the atmosphere. I haven't played many games that managed to suck me in like that, and it was absolutely enjoyable from start to finish! Another indie game that did a good job at drawing me in is Papers, Please. It's not so scary per se, but it's really conveying the whole idea of a totalitarian communism perfectly!

While I'm throwing out names, there's a game coming up called “Hyper Light Drifter” - it looks like an exciting concept, and they've got some amazing artists on board. I can't wait to see the finished product!"

When I post in the forums I tend to use general statements and make sure I don't post anything inaccurate, I guess that leads to bit formal appearance maybe? I'd say the thing people don't know about me is how I am as a person outside the BBS, and even then it's not uncommon for me to hear I'm “hard to read”."

"Not much, if all goes according to plan I'm heading to the Norwegian Air Force in January, and I'm not sure how much I'll be able to post from there. After that I don't know myself if I get the position as a graphic designer intern, I might start uploading design stuff to the art portal, and maybe even some motion graphics?"

Interview with Havegum

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user WiiFittoToreinaa.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username tsukikomi?

WiiFittoToreinaa:

"I found this place by Google back in 06. I was searching for arcade flash games website that had games like Super Smash Flash/Thing-Thing/rage etc etc. Just looking for a place where I can see myself coming back too all the time cause I keep forgetting websites like bumarcade/crazymonkeygames. Then in 08 I wanted to keep track of my favorite flash/games from exploring newgrounds library I created an account as HellReaper666 (I was like 13 during the time so cut me some slack please and thank you) so I could do such a thing. After a couple months or so I abandoned the account and left Newgrounds for like a year or so. After that year I remember all the flash it had and roaster and wanted to start going back so I tried accessing that old account but forgot the password to it (it was probably deleted by now anyways) and created a new account by the name of DevilShadow666. After a while (and getting older/growing up) I started to realize that my old name sounds like an 9 year old Sonic fag and wanted a name that was more kawaii and Anime like so I looked at some Japanese name lists and found names "tsukiko" and "mi" and combined those two names together to be tsukikomi.

I 1st pm Wade to change my name and wouldn't do it. So I pm spam bombed Tom Fulp until he decided to do it and it worked out for me (although I wanted to change Devilshadow666 to Himemiya but it was already taken and was proven to still be active)."

Changed name to WiiFittoToreinaa

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

WiiFittoToreinaa:

"Mostly user wise. Started to use more proper grammar more when I post and do less shit posting (not like there's any good thread these days anyways). As in real life I would mostly say humor wise like for an example, I would think something like Genderless Madness wasn't funny and now I do. Also have a thing for Rule 63 now if you hadn't notice yet.

tldr: Look at my post history/profile"

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

WiiFittoToreinaa:

"Most of the users I would hang out with are now inactive. Well Nor is still active but my old friends like chillbro, christian676, Zanthas, danico, lolman etc etc are long gone. We were Mhermeiser/genderless-hooker's account hack survivors and I'm the only one that's still active (I did find it sad and funny that metaknightpwns got his account hacked 6 times). I did find people to talk to about stuff so you could got more social online (but I still don't use Facebook, Twitter and Skype so don't bother asking)."

WiiFittoToreinaa:

"I would consider genderless-hooker/Suffering/Mhermeiser (whatever he likes to go by) an enemy I guess since he did hack me and some of my friends account and I got permabanned from reviewing because of him. I don't have serious issues with anyone else I can remember and some may find me annoying/obnoxious but that's okay."

And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

WiiFittoToreinaa:

"It's slowly dying, I wish the people would contribute with more quality threads that I would want to partake in. I spend most of my time on general forums there's more traffic and it has some topics I could contribute to. And a better question would be who haven't you interviewed?"

WiiFittoToreinaa:

"There are some mods that I came across with that seemed power hungry that it almost looks like they get their "sick kicks" from banning people (EyeLovePoozy) and there are some that likes to constrict me of my fun (Murray) and there are some good/nice mods (Timmy). They're okay but some let that power go to there head."

WiiFittoToreinaa:

"I wouldn't mind having a little power when I come to Newgrounds. I'll want to be a forum moderator since the BBS General is where I visit the most on this website. I would try to do my job well and not let the power go to my head and I could see if that urban miff "mods forum" is real or not."

WiiFittoToreinaa:

"I didn't mind the redesigns that much. My only complaint is why they got rid of the userpage header option and the classic flash view mode option? Other then that I don't really have issues with this designs (although I wish Tank girl was a part of the background again)."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Recently the under judgment system was changed, so that stuff can get blammed or passed faster. What do you think about this change?

WiiFittoToreinaa:

"I don't care about it. I don't visit the flash portal like I used to and I think not much would change anyways. Ass-kissers/Dick-riders will always 5-bomb every flash they can get their hands on (especially the shit ones) just to improve their stats. It does seem like a good idea at first but the dick riding is too good."

I think that you like watching anime. Tell our readers which animes you like the most and what you like about animes in general.

WiiFittoToreinaa:

"My favorites of all time are Inukami, Hourou Musuko, Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai, Sora no Otoshimono, and my favorite recent ones in the last two years have been Sankarea, Ao no Exorcist, Aku no Hana, Highschool DxD, Senki Zesshou Symphogear, and again Kami nomi zu Shiru Sekai (Megami-hen). What I like about Anime is that it has more originality to it (ignoring moe/harem genres) and like the pretty animations especially since they're on a low budget. What I don't like in my Anime is english dubbed Anime since I prefer to watch the bootleg original japanese dubbed with english subs online.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Judging from the one picture of your bedsheets, you seem to be a fan of Pokémon. Which Pokémon is your favourite? Are you looking forward to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y?

WiiFittoToreinaa:

"Oh that? Well I just been having that blanket since I was little and never bothered to get another one (I do have a blanket with a tiger on it but it has holes in it). My favorite would be Flygon just because I like the design and appearance of it (I don't care about its kill power). No I'm not really looking forward to the newer Pokémon games cause I don't like the 3DS button layout designs (DS's are also easy to steal) and the games get more ridiculous per gen."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

You play video games. Which game that was released this year is your favorite? What game releases are you looking forward to?

WiiFittoToreinaa:

"None of them. I don't have a PS3 so I can't try Grand Turismo 5 or 6 and Playstation All-stars is okay but not as good as Super Smash Bros, other then that I'm not really fond of the newer games (I don't know if you would count Project M since its a mod and it's not finished). I would be looking forward to Super Smash Bros 4 but it's on the Wii U and I don't like the idea of playing Smash without a Gamecube controller."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

WiiFittoToreinaa:

"Between you and me I almost weight 200 pounds. I'm too lazy to hit the gym so I was able burn it down to 154 by walking alot. My diet still consist of junk food but walking cancels those calories :p. And never was really fat just chubby. Also walking to most your target locations is cheaper and healthier then taking the bus, just saying."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What can we expect from you in the future, WiiFittoToreinaa?

WiiFittoToreinaa:

"Probably gonna be less and less active if the BBS doesn't become more livelier. I and other regulars need to just keep the place alive by contributing in the right way. We can break the "774 most users online record" if we actually try."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Emlfuryoflion.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Emlfuryoflion?

Emlfuryoflion:

"Man it was a long time ago I can hardly even remember. If I can remember correctly I believe I found Newgrounds back in late 2006/early 2007 when a friend of mine on xfire showed me some cool animations from this site. Back in those early days I was mostly a lurker trying to find more interesting flash animations and games on this site and I decided to officially join in march 2007. My name Emlfuryoflion comes from multiple things, the most obvious thing with my name is the word lion. Back when I joined I thought lions were a cool animal so I tried to attach a defining word to it being fury which most lions would have. The EML part of my name goes back to an old star wars game I used to play on PC when I was younger. It stood for Elite Mercenary League. I thought it was kind of cool so even though I stopped playing that game and separated from that group I kept the name and use it on other sites as well that I joined around a similar time frame. I have since in recent years stopped using the name regularly for new sites though."

Emlfuryoflion:

"Well that's pretty easy to answer. Yeah I have changed a lot. I was only 14 when I joined this site and today I am 21 so just through getting older I have changed a lot. If you look through my posting history my posting style has changed a lot since back when I first joined. While I don't believe I am perfect today I used to make a lot of noticeable grammar and spelling mistakes that when I look back on it make me facepalm many times over. I am nowhere near as bad as I used to be. As for real life as you can imagine things have changed too. I still feel like I am the same type of person I was before but with more experience. I was only in my 1st year of high school when I joined this site. Today I am in my 4th year of college. As you can imagine I am thinking about a lot more things than I was thinking about back when I first joined the site."

Emlfuryoflion:

"It's hard to really say. I got a few users added on my friends list on Wii U, 3DS and Xbox 360 but I haven't really gotten to know any of them so I can't really say there is anyone in particular that I have come to like on Newgrounds."

Emlfuryoflion:

"Not really anyone in particular as I said I haven't come to know many people here despite my lengthy time on Newgrounds. While there is no specific user I would dislike or consider an enemy it does bother me when users try to start arguments over nothing(such as saying lololol your console/handheld system sucks this one is wayyyyyy better lolololol)"

And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Emlfuryoflion:

"Definitely the video game forum. I like to talk about games currently out or games that are coming out soon all the time. Video games pretty much take up 90-95% of the free time I have every day. As for the forums in general I like it of course otherwise I probably wouldn't be posting. As for another user to interview I don't really have any in mind sorry about that."

Emlfuryoflion:

"I think they do a great job. They tend to keep threads from going off topic and lock the unnecessary extra topics if any pop up. It's one of those things that has to be done. It's either a you love them or you hate them sort of thing when it comes to mods and as long as you do what you are supposed to do and conduct yourself in a proper manner they won't trouble you."

Emlfuryoflion:

"Not at all. That kind of work would be too time consuming for me. I respect what the current mods have to deal with and in no way would I want to take on any of their responsibilities... well okay maybe if I was paid for it I would but that's a topic for another day if you ask me lol."

Emlfuryoflion:

"I actually completely forgot about that. I'm so used to it right now I didn't even remember this was a recent thing. It's really hard for me to say what's good and what's not because I have sort of forgotten what the old design was like. The only thing I can recall for sure is the flash portal changed and I used to be a regular for blamming and protecting new submissions but I remember when the re-design hit I sort of just stopped completely because watching and voting on new submissions got slightly more complicated and less convenient for me."

Your user icon and favourite Nintendo character is Kratos Aurion. Tell our readers who he is and why you like this character the most.

Emlfuryoflion:

"Well first of all a spoiler warning for anyone who hasn't played Tales of Symphonia and wants to play it(A HD remake is coming out in 2014 on the PS3 by the way) Second of all just to clarify he is a Namco character not a Nintendo character but he did star in a gamecube title. He's a bit of an interesting character with a lot of mystery surrounding him when you 1st meet him in the game. Just the way he comes in and saves your group at the beginning of the game sets himself up for being an awesome character. He has all sorts of moves ranging from close range sword techniques to mage level magic and even low to mid level healing abilities. He's your jack of all trades character and he can do pretty much everything and serve any purpose for your team. Also his voice actor is amazing and does the character a lot of justice. His english voice actor is probably my favorite out of any other character.

Story wise he is very involved in the games more interesting plot twists. The 1st one being right around the beginning of the game. You are led on to believe you are nearing the end of the game only to find out that Kratos was working for the bad guy the whole time after you beat the angel named remiel. You end up having to fight him right after the fight with remiel and chances are if you were like me you had a feeling of helplessness as he just completely dominated your team single handedly within seconds. Kratos revealed that he too was an angel and his shiny blue wings were quite the sight. Whether you got out of the fight with Kratos or not you find out he isn't the top guy in charge of it all and that even he was serving under someone else. The big boss of Cruxis himself Yggdrasill.

So yadda yadda they escape with their lives after some crazy stuff happens Kratos and Yggdrasill try to get Colette the chosen back to be Martel's vessel(Because that's what they were fighting over in the 1st place) Kratos and the rest of cruxis goes into a non agressive mode being all secretive of their plans and he ends up giving Lloyd advice and helps his group. Why? Because you find out later in the game... Kratos is Lloyd's father he ends up joining back with their group in the end and they go defeat the crazed Yggdrasill chracter.

Anyway without dragging on too much more Kratos Aurion has always been one of those awesome characters for me. It's hard to explain in just a couple paragraphs what makes him awesome without playing the game for yourself but there were many moments with in tales of symphonia that made me think Kratos Aurion was just the greatest character ever made which is why he is my icon not just here but on other sites I use as well."

You like the Legend of Zelda series. Tell me which game you played the first and which one your favourite is. Also, are you looking forward to The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds?

Emlfuryoflion:

"It's been a long time really but I think my 1st game was probably either the original Zelda on NES or the 2nd game the adventure of link. I was a bit young so I didn't have the greatest of experiences with those games. It wasn't until just a couple years ago that I got to play them again and finally beat and enjoy the games. As for my favorite it's hard to say probably a tie between Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess since those were the games I played beginning to end the most."

Pokémon is another series that you like. Tell me your toughts about the upcoming titles Pokémon X and Pokémon Y and the new Mega Evolutions, also state which of the so far released Mega Evolutions you like the most.

Emlfuryoflion:

"I'm looking forward to X and Y. I'm going to be getting X personally myself. As for the Mega Evolutions I thought it seemed like a silly idea at 1st but it's grown on me over time. I'm not too familiar with all the mega evolutions at this time as I am trying to save some of the surprise for when the game releases but out of what I have seen they all look rather interesting and I've liked all the ones I have seen thus far."

You own a fair amount of consoles. What is your favourite handheld console and what are your favourite games for it?

Emlfuryoflion:

"The 3DS is definitely my favorite. The fact of the matter is it can play all the old gameboy games, the gameboy color games, GBA games(If Nintendo ever decides to release those on the eshop like they should), DS games through backwards compatibility(and maybe eshop in the future?) and of course the regular 3DS games. It pretty much plays anything from Nintendo's handhelds both past and present. As for 3DS games my favorites for it are Fire Emblem Awakening and Tales of the Abyss with Animal Crossing being 3rd on that list. All of them are great games."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Emlfuryoflion:

"I do enjoy sports quite a bit. I'm probably not as big on it as I was a few years ago but I still really enjoy watching when I can. I am a pretty big supporter of my local teams in the dbacks, suns and cardinals with baseball being my favorite sport and the dbacks my favorite team. I do love baseball quite a lot I also play a baseball mmo in my spare time called brushbackbaseball. I have a referral link in my forum signature for anyone interested in trying it out it's quite fun really and I've been playing it for the last 3 years or so since the game has launched. In comparison to actual baseball it's a pretty realistic baseball simulation game and it's a free game so there is that too."

Emlfuryoflion:

"More of the same. Me posting here and there mostly in the video game forum which is pretty much all I have been doing for the last couple years now. Either way I know I'll be here. I've been here too long now to just get up and leave so this site will be seeing regular visits from me still for the next few years even after I am done with college and moving on to the workforce."

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user iMini.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username iMini?

iMini:

"I can't say for sure entirely why I joined Newgrounds, I just can't remember, I was only 14 at the time (I'm 21 now), I know I used to enjoy a lot of the content on the site, mainly flash games, I think the last one I really had a tonne of fun with was Newgrounds Rumble, that was an excellent game! I used to really enjoy game parodies too, Metal Gear Awesome is probably my favourite non-collab on here. The forums were nice too, so I've spent a lot of time on there over the years (nearly at 10,000 posts!).

I changed my name because I thought H-A-X-O-R-Z was a bit immature, I'd grown out of it. My friends IRL all call me "Mini", I wasn't exactly a late-bloomer, but it was a long time before I got any height (I'm a reasonable 5ft 7" now), I like the Apple style branding of having an "i" at the start of their products, so I took that and made myself iMini! I went through a few aliases since H-A-X-O-R-Z, such as OMG A Noob, TheChrist and Mini M3 Jr (I think Mini M3 Jr might outdate H-A-X-O-R-Z)."

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

iMini:

"Most definitely, I look through my post history occasionally and cringe at some of the stuff I have written, I signed up on the brink of puberty and I'm all done with that now, I've matured a lot, but I can still get really easily wound up, especially here, I suppose maybe that's a persona I've adopted? I can be a dick sometimes is what I'm trying to say, but if I get to know a user I tend to be friendlier to them. Yeah, I've grown up in real life too, I've moved out of my parents, moved to a whole other city actually."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

iMini:

"I like a fair few of the regulars in the Video Games forum, I really like Dean though, he's pretty awesome, I used to play with him a lot on Xbox Live but his University work got in the way of that quite a bit and I don't think we've played in over a year now! I often speak with Bartmasta, I don't know if that was his account name here, Bart his name is, we also get a long pretty well. I also used to talk to Lagamuffin (or in his latter days, simply "Oliver"), but we just kind of drifted apart, shame really. I try to be get a long with the people I see on the forums often; RightWingGamer, Tramps, Jackho, Simon, etc, but I've never really befriended any of them."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

iMini:

"Definitely not, I've had spats and arguments with some users in the past but I'm not holding any grudges right now. I remember once seeing a user go off on a huge rant regarding the forums and at one point mentioned me by naming for being a "subtle fanboy", as I'd say things that might sound like a legitimate complaint about a game, he called me out for hating on MGS4, I claimed I'd lost interest in the series because of its convoluted plot, but he saw right through me and brought up that I was just trying to bring the series down because I lacked the ability to play it (I didn't own a PS3 at the time). I actually really love MGS4 now I've played it, and I'm really excited for MGS5!"

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

iMini:

"I only go on the Video Games forum any more, I think the General section has turned to utter garbage, it reminds me of /b/, not that there's anything wrong with /b/, but I don't think that the stupid attitude works here. There's a lot of troll comments, you know? I'm just not a fan of that and turn to Reddit for any kind of serious discussion and I go to 4chan if I want that kind of stupid, but somehow entertaining attitude.

I'd like to see Dean get interviewed, he's a really nice guy, he's a mod and he's been here for a long time."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

iMini:

"I think in my experience they do a fairly good job, it can get a little shitty sometimes, but overall it's not bad, sometimes a post that's spam, or advertising or something else against the rules can go days before one of the mods gives it a look over, but they do catch a lot of threads that are shitty before they gain any traction."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

iMini:

"I'm not entirely fussed about that kind of thing, I'd only be interested in being a forum mod, and even then only in the VG forum, but it's not something I'm going to change my attitude to get."

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

iMini:

"I liked almost everything about the redesign, the level cap was bumped from 30 to 60, it made progressing up levels a hell of a lot easier (There used to be a set amount of XP between the lower levels, up until something like 9 or 11 and after that the amount of XP needed to level up would increase exponentially, I think you needed to vote something like 50 days before a level up, whereas the lower levels before that were something like a week to level up. I know there were a bunch of featured added, and the site looked a whole lot nicer, but I can't think of any specific that I really liked about it, I'd have to spend time with the old site to really know.

The redesign also introduced the VG forum, which as you should now by now, was a great thing in my opinion."

The redesign happened last year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

iMini:

"I have very little opinion on the new redesign, I don't like the level icons anywhere near as much as the old ones (I'm not a fan of pixel art), and the improvements to the flash, art and audio portals I have little interest in, it didn't really affect me, you know?

I know they updated the forums recently and it now supports more characters so I can finally type £ Huzzah!"

Skindred is your favourite band. Tell our readers why you like them and talk about some of your favourite songs and how you experienced their live concerts.

iMini:

"Well, they're a Reggae-Metal band from Wales and I think they're excellent of course. I first got into them through new friends in College at around the age of 16, they showed me a softer song of theirs called "The Fear" and I fell in love with it, when I actually started listening to them though, I found a completely new band in them that I liked even more. I saw them live first in 2010 at a music festival, the lead singer is a very talented showman, he really knows how to make the crowd laugh and brings a fantastic energy to their sets, I've never seen anything quite like it. I've seen them 6 or 7 times now, and I'm perhaps going to see them again this year in Amsterdam in November, and definitely again in January here in the UK, as they're doing a tour in support of their album due out early next year. They have a number of tracks I would consider excellent; Nobody, Bruises, Pressure, The Fear, Roots Rock Riot, Trouble, Rat Race, State of Emergency, Destroy The Dancefloor, Rude Boy for Life, Stand For Something, Cut Dem, Doom Riff, Guntalk, Make Your Mark, Own You, Bad Man Ah Bad Man, Game Over, Electric Avenue and their latest track Ninja is phenomenal. Out of those I'd say Electric Avenue, Ninja, Trouble, Roots Rock Riot and Bruises were my favourites."

In your recent posts you showcased that you like The Binding of Isaac, a rather popular indie game. Tell our readers what you like about this game.

iMini:

"Well, it's a procedurally generated rogue-like game, where you play an infant as he makes his way through various floors facing off against grotesque monsters, there are hundreds of pick ups with unique effects, and many of them synergise well together, Quad Shot + Spider shot will make every enemy you hit take a load of damage and slows their speed, Ipecac + Technology will create a mega powerful laser beam that will destroy almost anything instantly. It's very difficult, but very rewarding. There are also 13 endings and the game gets progressively harder as you unlock them, as well as challenge runs and various characters to choose from. It's one of my favourite games ever."

Which game has been so far your favourite for this year? If you look back 5 years, which games released in that time period were in your opinion the most important ones?

iMini:

"Tough One. I haven't played a lot of this year AAA games, but I recently got Payday 2 and Splinter Cell Blacklist and they're very good, but I have almost no doubts I will enjoy GTA V the most out of any game I play this year. In the past 5 years I'd say some of the most out standing games would be:

Telltale's The Walking Dead, taking place in The Walking Dead universe you play as Lee and make your way through the game in hope of escape, it's very good and there are a lot of tough decisions to make, it's primarily point-and-click but there's some occasional shooting. The reason you play is for the choices you have to make. Do you save the potential love interest, or the intellegent, but nerdy guy? You have 4 pieces of food, but there are 9 people in your group, who do you give the food to? Towards the end it gets incredibly emotional, I've never had an experience like it, I cried, it's got to be the saddest thing I've ever seen in media, I get teary eyed thinking about, the final scenes are just, unbelievable, I was left in awe by that game.

GTA IV and the expansions were excellent, I loved Yusuf Amir in The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Battlefield 3 is my personal multiplayer game of choice, it's a bit late into its life cycle to be getting into it now, you'll just run and get shot a lot because you won't have the map knowledge to be competitive.

Portal 2 was also fantastic, it's another game you play for the characters, GlaDOS is like an ice queen, but her sarcastic insults can be so amusing, Wheatly is a bumbling but lovable idiot, he provides hilarious comic relief, and of course Cave Johnson who stole the fucking show, he's such an extravagant character, doesn't care much for safety regulations, and is incredibly manly, I can't really describe it."

The next generation of consoles is coming, with the soon releases of both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. What do you like and dislike about the new consoles? Which of the announced games are you looking forward the most?

iMini:

"I don't dislike anything really about the new consoles, I certainly prefer the PS4 over the Xbox One, but I find myself constantly defending it, people give the Xbox One such a hard time, but Microsoft has resolved a lot of issues but people are still really butthurt about it.

I'm really looking forward to The Crew, which is an open world racing game, it looks like it could be a serious competitor against the likes of Need for Speed and Midnight Club! It has an absolutely massive world, anything you can see, you can drive to. I'm also in awe of Tom Clancy's The Division, which is a third person shooter, I think it's been described as an persistent, online, team based third person shooter/action rpg. It looks pretty good, but I can't tell you a lot about it because not a lot has been revealed."
