Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Alexander.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username ransha and why did you change it to Alexander?

Alexander:

"Oh boy, I never thought I'd see that name again. Well, back when I was a youngster I used to play games on a site called FlashPlayer, which sparked my initial interest in flash games and the sort. I eventually ended up doing a Google search for other sites like it, and that's how I stumbled upon Newgrounds!

As for the name 'Ransha', I believe I invented that name when I was eleven years old, drawing comics in school. He was the protagonist of the strip I was drawing.

I eventually outgrew the name, and changed it twice! It was first (I believe) "AlexOrSomthing" and then finally to Alexander. Since my name is Alex, I feel this makes sense. :P"

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Alexander:

"Oh yeah, absolutely. Newgrounds has had a very large impact, especially on my formative years. Newgrounds was really kind of my 'introduction' to the internet, so that alone changed the person I am.

I'm not really sure I could tell you HOW I've changed, though. My grammar has gotten better, and my sense of humor has refined a bit, but at my core I like to think I'm still a the same."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Alexander:

"Sure, yeah, I'm pretty close with Jaltoid, and yurgenburgen is pretty badass! egg82 and I have talked pretty extensively; he's a rightly talented programmer.

Of course, I consider all the mods and staff friends, regardless if I talk to them or not. :)"

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Alexander:

"Y'know, back in the day perhaps there were a few, but I can't remember their names. I prefer to keep things chill, so I make it a point not to argue with people whenever possible. This tends to keep the enemy count down."

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Alexander:

"I love the forums, always have, always will. I think the concept of the forums 'dying' is ludicrous. If you hang around the forums enough, you can see it's an ever-evolving entity.

As for a preference, I hang out around General a lot, mostly due to the fact that there's never a lack of entertainment. I also lurk Wi/Ht? pretty frequently in case anyone needs help!

I'd like to see any of the people I listed above interviewed (Jaltoid, yurgenburgen, egg82), they're all cool cats!"

You are both an icon moderator and a Game and Movie moderator. Tell my readers when you became a mod and what kind of stuff you do.

Alexander:

"Well, I started off as a Wiki mod, editing the Medals section of the Newgrounds Wiki. After the 2012 redesign launched, there was a bulk of movies and games that lacked icons, so I volunteered for that duty, as well as tagging and categorizing movies (that was, at the time, known as Genre modding). In August of 2012, those people that were Genre mods were made Game and Movie moderators!

Our main duties consist of making sure that nothing malicious stays on the portal. There is a wide range of ever-varying criteria for this, but the obvious ones deal with illegal content, overly-annoying spam, etc."

You were a member before the redesign 2007. Tell me how you experienced Newgrounds back then and what changes you liked about the redesign.

Alexander:

"Let me tell you that my favorite version of the site was the 2006 version. Don't get me wrong, I think this version of the site is great, and the staff put SO much time and energy into it, but I will always remember the 2006 design with love.

However, with the new design comes great changes! I think the reformatting of the Portal is a great thing, and the site is crazy detailed now. I recall, as it got closer and closer to 2012, it became VERY hard to stare at the grey layout."

The last redesign happened 2012. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Alexander:

"I think the redesign was a well needed change, and I think most people that were around for it would agree with me. As I said, I have a lot of love for the old design, but after however many years it got hard to look at.

Well, like I said, I really like the reformatted portal, and I really appreciate they decided to leave an old-school portal up. I'm quite fond of the new "Feed" features, I think that's very neat. I wish chat was still around, but they're 'gonna come back stronger than ever on that front, I can taste it."

You mentioned in one of your posts that you want to become a Web Application Developer. What aspects of this career option interest you the most?

Alexander:

"Ah, how times change. I actually became a Web Application Developer and HATED IT! :P I still enjoy doing independent developments and making sites, but I got quite sick of doing it for a profession. So I traded that job for some jumpers and became a firefighter! I'm very much in love with this job, and don't plan to quit any time soon."

Some years ago you visited a concert of the band The Fray. Tell my readers when you became a fan of this band and what you liked about the show.

Alexander:

"Of course! I'd say I became a fan when I first heard some of their live stuff in 2008. I was kind of awestruck by how purely GOOD they were live. As it were, I've been two of their shows: One at the Hard Rock in Biloxi, and one at Tipitina's in New Orleans, both were fantastic shows. Unfortunately, I haven't really fallen for their latest album, "Helios". To me, it feel like producers got their hands wrapped around that album and ruined it, but that's just my opinion. :P"

You like the video games Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Which aspects of Half-Life and Half-Life 2 do you like the most?

Alexander:

"I sincerely believe that Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are the greatest games of this generation. They brought cinema-like story telling to the table, which completely changed game design. Not to mention, I've always been a fan of the industrial art style."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Alexander:

"Oh, lord. Yeah, I can think of one or two. A lot of people might not know that I was slated to get married at one point, to a user on this site no less. I won't really say who it is, because the whole thing didn't really end well, but yeah. That happened once.

In fact, I did an interview for someone else at one point, and I talked about it extensively in that.

Oh, also, I'm actually Tom Fulp."

What can we expect from you in the future, Alexander?

Alexander:

"Currently, I'm working on a pilot for an animated series that I hope to pitch around, and that will also make an appearance on Newgrounds! I'm expecting to release it sometime in the fourth-quarter of 2015, and I'm actually still looking for voice actors and artists to work on the project!"

Now you are filled with more knowledge about Alexander, dear reader.Feel free to leave a comment here, saying what you think about the interview, requesting users to get interviews is also appreciated. Tune in next week :3

Thanks for the opportunity! c:

Thank you for being awesome <3

I really like all these interviews Asandir. I don't know what's enjoyable about reading stuff about people I don't know, but it just is :)

Thank you very much :)
