Interview with Klobb17

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user Klobb17.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username Klobb17? I read that you want the inactive account Klobb deleted so you get the name.... did you ask yet?

Klobb17:

"When I was much younger, I would bug my older brother a lot whenever he was on the computer or had a friend over, sometimes both. Eventually I stopped bugging him and simply watched him play games with his friend on one website in particular, with its gold-and-black theme and "that tank logo". At the time I didn't know the name, but that was the first time I discovered Newgrounds. Skip ahead several years to 2007, and I'm on my own computer, looking up websites to join. I stumbled across Newgrounds again after searching up sites with Flash games, and recognized it as the site my brother visited. After playing a few games and watching some animations, I thought maybe I should make an account, so that I can save my favorites, rate them, and more. Then came the time for a username. At the time I was playing the game Goldeneye on N64, and my favorite gun in that game was the klobb. I figured "Klobb is a bitching name, I'll use that!". Then Newgrounds informed me that the username "Klobb" was already taken, to my dismay. Not about to give up on it, I threw in the number 17 at the end, for quite honestly no apparent reason at all, and stuck with that.

As for having the inactive account Klobb deleted and me taking the name... it sounded like a good idea at the time, but after giving it more thought, I have decided against it. Yeah, I regret not being able to choose the username I wanted, but I think that Klobb17 as a username has become a part of me, now. People know me as Klobb17, not just Klobb (although many a user just refer to me as that, regardless. Not that I mind). I use it on almost every other website that I join, have it as my Steam username, and even used it as my PlayStation Network name when I had a PS3 a single day, so changing it on one site could throw off those on another site. (Funny story: apparently some one other than myself already used Klobb17 for their PSN account. While I'm flattered someone would take my username, I was just as furious as well. So instead, I go by as The_Real_Klobb17 on PSN. That totally showed them! *shakes fist angrily*)"

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

Klobb17:

"As a user? A little bit, yeah. Since I've started posting in the BBS, I've become a bit more mature and friendly, not as cynical or trollish, I make less spelling mistakes (as a bit of a perfectionist though I get mad at myself when I do make one today), and above all have lost my infatuation with the the metal genre, as well as mercenaries, as seen by my first few forum posts (looking back, I blame video games for that). But in real life, I've certainly changed a quite a lot. Back then, around when I started posting, I was just some loner in high school. I gradually become less of an introvert and warmed up to the few friends I had, though, and became more liked for it. Then came the time my mother decided, without any warning or even discussion, that we were moving from Florida to Missouri, where I used to live before escaping to Florida. I was absolutely pissed about having to move back to Missouri, where I don't have very many fond memories, but it wasn't my decision in the matter, so I had to move. Naturally I was extremely bitter, perhaps even hateful during the move, and that carried over when I started at my new high school, although I made sure to not show it. It didn't take too long though for me to make new friends, thanks to joining an airsoft club at the school and eventually befriending the club founder along with some of his own friends. Eventually I got over feeling mopey and moved on thanks to them, and became the more charismatic, outgoing kind of guy I am today (at least in real life). Sure, I regret not being able to graduate high school with my old friends, but it's not like I can change the past, so I have to move on."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

Klobb17:

"Quite a few! The first one that I met and truly liked would have to be Nor. Unfortunately the little guy hardly comes here anymore, but he reminded me a bit about myself when I was younger. Along with him, I'm confident in saying that I have a handful of NG friends, them being KillerSkull, Protagonist, Shade, and tonypar16. KillerSkull is a guy who is good to joke around with, and is quite funny. He just has that vibe of friendliness that some people just don't have, and I imagine he'd be a swell dude to meet in real life. Protagonist is a fellow gamer, and is a rather level-headed guy. He's one of the few users on here that I can have a decent conversation with, although the fact that he doesn't like one of my favorite fighting games, BlazBlue, is a downer, but eh, no biggie. Shade too is also a fellow gamer, and one that I would sometimes play with on Xbox 360 before my Gold subscription ran out (*mumblegrumble...*). He knows how to have fun, even if I've say won 4 rounds in a row against him in Soul Calibur V, and if he's even frustrated about it, he's very good at hiding it. Not to mention he's rather talented at making characters in the same game, having made recreations of Samurai Jack, Aku, Skeletor, Rocky, and Ethan Thomas from Condemned 2, and even Steve from MineCraft (with and without diamond equipment), among others. He has some quirks about him, I'll admit, but he's still a cool person nonetheless. Then there's tonypar16. We were apparently supposed to be enemies over who Nor liked more, but that didn't last long as we figured being enemies over such a matter is just silly. His BBS posts are often amusing to read and can make me laugh at times. I honestly kinda see him like a little brother. Albeit a Greek brother that I only know through a website, but still. After that, we have users like Thedark that I enjoy talking to often, even though he's a bit too anxious for his own good. It's a shame he hasn't been online in quite a while. ImaTouko-Chan is also another amusing user that I interact with. Their manner of speech is confusing at times, I'll admit, but they do know how to have fun, and can be very nice. There's also BrokenPaw who, despite being an odd fellow, is quite amusing once you get to know him a little. Jester also deserves a mention, for some of his humorous posts, but can be quite serious when he needs to be. On a similar note, I'm also rather fond of Skaren, to be honest. I admire that when he's serious, he is a very mature poster who puts thought into his topics and responses, and when he isn't serious, he's quite the hilarious chap who isn't afraid of some ho-yay every once in a while. Lastly, there's Otto. We don't interact too much, but DAMN he has some awesomely viewtiful hair! If anyone feels like I left them out, do feel free to yell and insult me for not mentioning you."

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

Klobb17:

"None that I would consider as enemies. I'll admit, there's been a confrontation between me and the odd user here and there, but nothing that would warrant us a enemies, I think. Besides, I find it more to my advantage to stay on a users good side, not to be hated by them. It doesn't matter if someone is a furry, a brony, a gamer, an artist, or what have you, we should cooperate as fellow Newgrounders. There are a few users that give me a bad impression, mainly trolls and such, but it's never anything that needs too much attention, I think. I just try to ignore them if possible."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer? And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

Klobb17:

"Although I tend to just lurk around every now and then, I do enjoy the forums of Newgrounds. I mainly stick to General and Video Games, since that's basically what I'm about. I don't care too much about politics, so I stay out of Political, and I have no business being in Animation. I do draw from time to time, but I don't think it's anything worth showing off, so I stick out of Art. I do lurk in Audio and Collab to see if anyone is in need of an amateur voice actor (to very little success, might I add). I'd have to say the Video Games is my preferred forum, since I am quite a huge gamer, and love discussing with other gamers. As for another forum user to interview, that's a tough one... Perhaps the user E-Lord would make for a good interview? He's been around for a while, and has quite a few forum posts under his belt. Not to mention he's also another member of the Expendables fad."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

Klobb17:

"It varies from mod to mod, but overall they do a good job of keeping Newgrounds in line, as well as being helpful to users when need-be. Some of them are so active in the forums though that it's hard to see them as moderators. They just sometimes seem like typical everyday users, participating in topics, adding to conversations, and have a sense of humor."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

Klobb17:

"I'm not against the idea. I have a little experience with being a mod (or just a helpful user, in general) for a couple of groups on deviantArt, so being one on Newgrounds doesn't seem so bad. I don't think I'm particularly active or known enough to be one though. If I was a mod, I'd probably be stuck with the General forum, or even the Chat, making sure things stay in line. I have to admit though, I'm probably too easy going to be a decent mod, so I don't see it happening anytime soon."

The redesign 2012 has arrived earlier this year. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

Klobb17:

"It's alright. I don't have any complaints about it, frankly. Definitely looks better visually, and seems much more organized than it was before. Sorry for not having much input, it's just never been something that stuck me as important."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

Klobb17:

"I want to be a pilot. Not just for any aircraft, but for a fighter jet. Having divorced parents and moving back and forth across the country means that I've had to fly across the country a lot, and over time I've just come to love flying. While some may have a fear of heights, I welcome the high altitudes. Being up in the sky among the clouds is just a wonderful sensation for me. There's something about sitting in an high altitude aircraft moving at intense speeds, looking among the near-endless horizon with a clear blue atmosphere above me, and the earth far below, that is just calm and soothing for me. Thanks to my brother, I've also become a huge fan of flying games like Ace Combat. In those games, I tend to just go into a free-flight mode, pick my favorite aircraft (often the Su-47), and just fly around, taking in the sights from a cockpit view while the afterburners roar behind me. It's truly an experience that I dream of doing sometime in real life. Of course, having a lazy eye will make such a reality difficult to achieve. To be a pilot, you need some good eyesight, something I don't exactly have at the moment. Sure, I can focus my eye into place (a trick that freaks out a lot of people), but then I become extremely near-sighted, so there's that obstacle as well."

You and some users formed a group named Expendables. Tell our readers how you got the idea and what you are doing.

Klobb17:

"Pretty sure Protagonist is the sole reason it exists. He led the Reservoir Dogs movie group fad before this, I believe, so after that he had a poll for which fad would rule next. Out of the three choices, the movie "The Expendables" came out on top, and I took my place as Barney Ross, who was played by Sylvester Stallone. I don't think there's really much reason to us playing as characters from a movie, really. We're just fans who want to have fun, and like to dip into a bit of role-playing as well. I'm a huge fan of the movies, myself, and love the concept of a team of elite mercenaries basically kicking ass and taking names, and played by famous action movie stars, no-less."

What can we expect from you in the future, Klobb17?

Klobb17:

"Probably some more amateur voice acting if someone wants me to do it, be them friends or strangers. At some point, I'll submit art here, and eventually might try my hand at the Writing forum, or even the Writing portal if it's ever made. I have a myriad of characters to show and stories to tell, but it's just a matter of me getting off my lazy ass and making them. There's also a project I've been working on with a few buddies for some type of web-comic or flash series, although it's mainly just character drawings and a ton of written stuff on my part so far. I also plan on making a push dagger based off the Assassin's Creed logo soon, having already nailed down the concept for it, so you might expect to see that around here sometime as well (I wonder if WadeFulp will like it? He's a knife nut after all)."

Comments

I like him.

I like him too ^^

I'm all flattered and aroused

Yes :3

Klobb will be my first officer!

Yay :D

This guy is far too modest and honest for his own good, but overall, he seems alright. He should contribute to the site more instead of just lurking around though.

ERR I MEAN It was a fun interview, Asandir. Keep them up.

Thank you, I will keep them up as long as I can :)
