Interview with RightWingGamer

Asandir's interviews with Newgrounds forum users

This week's interview features the user RightWingGamer. You will read about what he thinks about MLP, the video games of 2012 and much more.

When did you find Newgrounds and why did you join? Why did you choose the username RightWingGamer?

RightWingGamer:

"Well, I found newgrounds back in '08, when my friend Kafke wanted to show me a flash he had made. I didn't join until August of '09, and when I did, it was really only for the forums. I chose the name RightWingGamer for three reasons: 1. I hold many right-wing political beliefs, ranging from libertarian (on issues such as censorship), to controversially neo-con (on issues such as foreign policy and American exceptionalism).) 2. I play alot of video games, especially those by BioWare. 3. The acronym RWG is fuckin' badass!"

Do you think that you changed over the time you were here, as user, or also in real life?

RightWingGamer:

"Well, haven't we all changed since our sign-up? As a user, I believe my debating skills have gotten considerably better, and I've found that approaching every issue with a skeptical and critical mind will help you form a less prejudiced opinion. IRL, I've become very analytical (emphasis on the "anal"). It's gotten to the point that I can't even watch a movie anymore without over-examining every little detail. This is both a blessing and a curse, since it gives me a greater appreciation for films like The Hunger Games, but flat-out ruins me for films like Avatar."

Are there any other users that you like, and how do they affect you?

RightWingGamer:

"Pretty much everyone in the MLP:FiM club. Good Golly, I have never seen people get along so well on the internet. Even when there is a difference of opinion, arguments are short and never bitter. Even outside the club, they conduct themselves like fine gentlemen, in stark contrast to everyone else. Give them a hand, because they have restored my faith in humanity!"

Are there any users that you would consider enemies or that you just don't like?

RightWingGamer:

"Well, I like to draw the line between "enemy" and "rival." So with that in mind, I would consider Travis to be my rival. He has legitimate opinions, and can hold his own in an argument. Others, like naronic, just form opinions because they "sound cool," and he loves to put his ego above the actual issue. He's the kind of guy who likely strokes off while looking in the mirror, and I can not respect that. There are other users I hate, like FallenMartyr and Exile, but naronic is by far the most obnoxious."

What is your opinion about the forums? Is there one forum that you prefer?

RightWingGamer:

"My opinion of the forums tends to vary from board to board. I tend to hang around the VG board the most, since I love talking about video games. Ironically, my mainstreamist views on gaming have become far more controversial than my neo-con political beliefs. I am an unapologetic skeptic, and that tends to rub people the wrong way."

And is there another forum user that you want to see getting interviewed by me?

RightWingGamer:

"More of my brony buddies, especially Skaren. He's got some really great stories to tell."

I guess that you have an opinion about the moderators of Newgrounds. Do you think that they do a great job or not?

RightWingGamer:

"I actually don't like the moderators that much. Not in a "Fuck da police" manner, just an "I don't think they're doing a very good job" manner. The BBS is loaded with trolls, the mods tend to side with whoever contacted them without hearing both sides of the story, and I've even caught porn being posted without the mods doing jack shit about it. The only mod that I greatly respect is NEVR. Back in 2011, the VG board had an awful problem with flame wars, and NEVR actually did something about it, instead of just going on a case-by-case basis."

Would you like to become a moderator on Newgrounds? If so, what kind of moderator?

RightWingGamer:

"Well, much like the police movies of yore, I would like to become a forum mod. I consider myself even-handed, and believe I can enforce the rules both fairly and efficiently. I see alot of problems with the current forum mods, and I'd like to do something about it. Set a good example, and all that jazz."

The redesign is finally here. Tell me what you think about it. What do you like and what is not so good?

RightWingGamer:

"Well, I really like how it makes greater use of the previously useless user icons. I also like the new aura system, since the old one was absolutely meaningless. I guess my only complaint is that the search bar is still broken. Being primarily a forumite, that's all that really affected me about the redesign, so my opinion doesn't really extend beyond that."

You seem to be a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Can you tell our readers how you became a fan and what you like about the show? Has being a brony affected your life?

RightWingGamer:

"It's a story I've told many times before, but I still love telling it. I first watched the show back in August of 2011. The pilot didn't leave a good impression on me, so I decided to abandon the show until I was bored enough to go back to it. Who'd have thought that this February would have been so boring? I watched the next episode sometime in late February, and that led to watching the next one after that, and the one after that, and the one after that, and so on. After finishing all available episodes in early March, I joined the MLP:FiM club on Newgrounds. There are many things I like about the show, mainly the characters. Even when the story quality dips, the characters always impress me. A great example of this is the episode Fall Weather Friends. If you think about it, the core plot of the episode is a tired one, but Applejack and Rainbow Dash interacting and playing off of each other helps to make it very enjoyable to watch. The same applies to the episodes Suited for Success, Look Before You Sleep, The Ticket Master, and Best Night Ever. Old stories given new life by excellent characters. Along with restoring my faith in humanity (which I already detailed), being a Brony has also introduced me to the magic of Fan Fiction. My favorite is Of War and Friendship, with the legendary Fallout Equestria being a close second. It's astounding how much I enjoy derivative work now, to the point that I actually enjoy it more than original work."

Judging from your newsposts and activity in the video games forum, I guess that you like video games. Do you have a favourite series? Are there any game releases for 2012 that you are looking forward to?

RightWingGamer:

"Despite my immense disappointment in the most recent installment, I would call Mass Effect my favorite series. It's the only series I know of to tell a fully interactive, hollywood-quality sci-fi story that remembers your choices from game to game, allowing you to reap the full benefits (or consequences) of your every decision.

I am currently anticipating four games in 2012, two of which are actually MLP fan games.

For the mainstream titles:

Assassin's Creed 3: Even though I despise UbiSoft, I've always been a fan of Assassin's Creed. And with the new time period, as well as the acknowledgement of where the previous games went wrong, I believe AC3 could very well be the best Assassin's Creed game yet.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2: Okay, I hated Black Ops 1, and there are still many aspects of Black Ops 2 that I have absolutely no faith in. However, I'm putting this one on my list because Treyarch actually promised to revamp the campaign and include a branching storyline with multiple endings and an abundance of choice. Sure, It's probably going to be a short game, but I'm hoping it will be replayable.

My Little Investigations: According to developer Equestrian Dreamers, MLI is a pony-fied Phoenix Wright game. Now, I've never played Phoenix Wright, but I do enjoy a good mystery. And from the demo, I'd say the writing is definitely up to snuff with what I'd expect both from the show and the mystery genre in general.

Welcome to Ponyville: Picture this: Mass Effect - combat + ponies. The solution to that equation is Welcome to Ponyville, a fully-voiced adventure game with an emphasis on character interaction and choice. Still no word on any release dates, but I'm still dying to play it.

That's it for the 2012 releases, but I'm also looking forward to Dragon Age 3 in the foreseeable (but not 2012) future. I might be the only soul on the planet who actually liked Dragon Age 2, so I'm definitely getting the sequel."

Every person has secrets. Can you tell one of yours or something else that we didn't know about you yet?

RightWingGamer: "I am a supreme Star Wars fanboy. That part people probably already know. What they don't know is that I actually fashioned my own code of ethics around that of the Mandalorian clans, and am even studying the fictional language of Mando'a. I also still have all my old childhood Star Wars toys, and use the SW films as my supreme standard for quality (even if it's not always good quality). I realize this is a tad obsessive, but we all have skeletons in our closets."

What can we expect from you in the future, RightWingGamer?

RightWingGamer:

"I'll be here, on the forums. I'm currently working on developing a machinima with a home-made script and original music from ComposerKuandohan, but it's crawling along at a snail's pace. Probably won't be ready in 2012."

Ah good ole' RightWingGamer. Interesting little mind.

Indeed :)

It's... BEAUTIFUL!

Yes *_*

Excellent interview.

Thanks ^____^

That parody account is some funny shit. I actually wish it would post MORE.

Indeed. I wanted to make a "Sith-Lord" back then when Light was called Jedi-Master to convince him to change his aura to dark/evil ( nostalgia tears T_T ) but the account was already created :(

Awesome review, probably the longest one I've seen in a while!

Thanks ^__^
